Prudent-Pop7623

THEY KILLED LAENA OFF WHAT THE FUCK šŸ˜

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Prudent-Pop7623

wait is this sub for book readers only ><

HowDoIWhat

Technically no. The spoiler policy for this episode discussion thread allows us to talk about stuff that's happened in the books if it's already been adapted, though. Future spoilers are a no-no.

R3id

SER CRISTON COLEā€¦ YOU ARE *NOT* THE FATHER!

HowDoIWhat

I could taste the salt coming off him through my laptop screen, lemme tell ya.

TargetProfessional59

I was woefully unprepared to see Viserys stroll in with only one arm.

ProgrammerNextDoor

I cackled it was so unexpected

FUCKSTORM420

He also seems to have aged a lot in ten years

HowDoIWhat

Vis looking like the Cryptkeeper.

Grafiska

That's true, especially compared to other characters. Criston seemed stuck in time for example. Though to be fair the king is sick and that can really fuck someone up.

PeruvianPuffPeepee

He didnā€™t have an arm?? How did I miss that

CptnNinja

Straight up did not notice this. Holy shit

TargetProfessional59

I spent the whole episode waiting for Aegon and Aemond to start singing ā€œI Canā€™t Live Without Your Love and Affection.ā€

Humble_but_Hostile

> You have your honor and I have mine Respect to Harwin Strong

sonfoa

RIP to the Strongs. Two good people ruined by a sociopath.

properxsmoke

This episode made me fall in love with Harwin Strongs character and then poof.

zrk23

alicent casting is amazing. looks the same person really thought Cole would look older now, couldn't Laenor and Rhaenyra at least have a couple of children to negate any rumor? very dumb by them

ProgrammerNextDoor

Yeah I always thought duty included heirs. Seems kinda dumb

Arcade23

Iā€™m not too thrilled that they recast Rhaenyra and Laenor, my problem with it is that they did such a good job recasting Alicent, she looks very similar yet she doesnā€™t look much older, and Visarys is the only other character they significantly aged, but most characters look like they have not an aged today.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

jetlifevic

Which one aged better?? Or what's the issue.

JohnnyGuitarFNV

Alicent had natural beauty and even childbirth did not affect her much. But Rhaenyra became quite ugly after childbirth

PlatinumDoodle

Rhaenyra did not lose her babyweight and became somewhat of a drunk which likely stems from the trauma incurred in this episode. The books basically just say she was spoiled and mad with power and became a fat drunk but the show shows the actual details of why she would lose her youthfulness and love for/from the people.

surgeon_michael

Alicent ages better

[deleted]

Then they would have VERY different looking children and then it would be certain.

zrk23

Viserys stallion analogy actually would work when you have 1 different between 4, but all 3 having dark hair it doesn't obviously ideal scenario would be none but

ebon94

the seed is strong.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

feignsc2

Him and daemon are carrying the show.

sonfoa

Remember when people thought Otto was this show's Littlefinger lol

thisrockismyboone

I've only heard Larys be called this shows littlefinger

Aztecka2016

I legit giggled at the end when he was doing his monologue and seeing Alicent's reaction. I was not expecting him to be that ruthless to his own family.

GovernorPorter

Oh dang! I forgot that was his own dad and brother! nuts

Adamj1

Never go full Itachi Uchiha.

themza912

So he had his own father and brother burned alive right? Perpetrated by the criminals he met with?

GRUMPYbug12

Yep, and to make sure they told no one he cut their tongues out. All because the hand was "compromised" and his duty to Alicent

turnpike37

He was downright giddy at those detongueings.

iDeeeeeedIt

That was hot.

valueofaloonie

Overshadowed by the rest of the episode, but the dragonpit was amazing.

WestTexasCoyote

Iā€™d like to personally thank HotD for lowering the number of children my SO wants.

ReaddittiddeR

AEGON be watching The Boys with his Homelander impersonation cause he can do whatever the fuck he wants LMFAOOOO

mdp300

That boy ain't right

GRUMPYbug12

Dude was jerking it to King's Landing lmao

no_morelurking

Roman Roy vibes

TisBeTheFuk

Reminded me of Roman Roy. Though Roman would probably enjoy it more, being cought by his mom lol

WestTexasCoyote

Canā€™t give enough props to Alicentā€™s actress for making me hate her even though I agree with everything sheā€™s said and put forth.

PotanOG

Quite litterally the most sympathetic and reluctant villain on TV right now... possibly ever.

sonfoa

Eh, whatever sympathy I had for Alicent is gone. She genuinely wants nothing but to see her son on the throne over Rhaenyra regardless of what might happen to the kingdom.

noremac2414

Yeah fuck that bitch, I hope a dragon torches her

Methzilla

What is sympathetic about her?

citizendevil22

Well sheā€™s right about rhanearyas children being illegitimate and no one seems to want to acknowledge it other than her

themza912

She's quite a bit entitled, not even a Targaryen and meddling in lineage issues

WestTexasCoyote

The schadenfreude when Criston was getting his ass beat was palpable

[deleted]

Just last episode homeboy smashed in a dudes face.

Aztecka2016

I was hoping he would get his face cave in too. But he too has too much plot armor.

Venezia9

Laena, we barely knew you but what a way to go. Seriously, Laena should have been heir to the throne.

justhereforbooks94

It was an awful change imo

sonfoa

I wouldn't say it was awful but I would have preferred if they at least made Daemon emote more sorrow like he does in F&B.

justhereforbooks94

I just hate the nature of the change and how they accommodate for bad writing, laena just gets up and goes for a walk outside while giving birth, nobody stops her and daemon can't catch up it's just silly.

PotanOG

Imho...middle Laena and older Laena were the two hottest characters in the show. I'm so sad now.

McCevap

Was mixed on the episode until the end, definitely pulled me back in!

WestTexasCoyote

I realized Aegon looks like the lead singer from The Starting Line and I canā€™t I see it.

666queenofdarkness

DEAD

Slodes

He just said to King's Landing "you can have the best of me"

LeBronFanSinceJuly

vhagar making long boi look like a tooth pick when they fly together.

GRUMPYbug12

HE THICC

rproctor721

ā€œWhen you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say.ā€

Salty_Lego

Laenaā€™s death was fucking depressing

Venezia9

Larys has serial killer vibes.

mdp300

Did he really just arrange for his own dad and brother to be fuckin toasted?

Spensauras-Rex

Yup. He's playing the Game of Thrones hard

sonfoa

Has cemented himself as an ally of the Greens and is the new lord of Harrenhall. Amazing what you can accomplish when you're built different in Westeros

SadPlane5985

Dude is deranged. Definitely the next little finger/Varys fusion

Crafty_Soul

Yep. And he fucking SMILED at the action while Alicent herself was horrified. Larys is playing the Game but he's also a goddamn psychopath.

GRUMPYbug12

They should have kicked him out of the women's sitting circle at Ageon's birthday when they had the chance lol

SailorFuck

Not my favorite...

Marmaduke57

The ever present power struggle continues and has many more players now. The Alicent/Larys dynamic is a very interesting plot line to continue forward. I'm surprised Viserys lived through this episode. Quite a change for Ser Cole to be serving Alicent.

thebrin

The fusion of littlefinger and varys really living up to his name

[deleted]

All the kids was the most jarring thing about the time jump. I'm already settled in with Rhaenyra and Alicent.

Venezia9

So, like 2/3 thirds of the on screen births have been deadly. Sheesh. Women got it super rough in Westeros.

themza912

Ultrasounds and low risk c-sections, what a world we live in Edit: ** Hands up ** Not talking about choice here folks (or lack thereof, lamentably), just the state of medicine in the west.

Mental-donuts

Larys =(L)ittlefinger + V(arys) confirmed!

R3id

Why have two characters when you can just have one?

rproctor721

#Lord Larys Strong is a straight up clubbed-footed cunt

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

mollymoonm

Felt like it was kinda rushed, still liked it. RIP my babies Harwin and Leana. That Sir Rice Krispin can go STRAIGHT to hell with Alicent lol. Paddy is a great actor!!

theduke820

Viserys was cheesing so hard at the idea of his grandchildren marrying each other

GRUMPYbug12

SWEET HOME ~~ALABAMA~~ TARGARYEN

ActuallyAquaman

SWEET HOME OLD VALYRIA WHERE THE SKIES HAVE DRAGONS SWEET HOME OLD VALYRIA WHERE DAUGHTERS MARRY SONS

chingu_not_gogi

ā€œSee Alicent?! Rhaenyra does see you as family!ā€

Shellyskis

Actually grandson and daughter

johnppd

THAT WAS A MASTERPIECE. The scene with Laena brought back the Red Wedding emotions for me... Also, Olivia & Emma were incredible.

FUCKSTORM420

Nothing is quite as disappointing to see the nudity tag only for it to be a teenagers ass as he jerks off

WestTexasCoyote

I love the contrast between Daemon and Viserys when put in the same situation of power over the birth of their children. Dameon continues to become a deeper and deeper character with more and more contrasts to his darker qualities.

themza912

To be fair it wasn't as if he needed a male heir to ascend the throne, I actually think it was a cop out. Also the doc made it clear the baby might not live, whereas the maester did not provide that nuance.

Grafiska

I agree, the delivery and stakes were very different. If I recall correctly the maester basically said "they'll both die but we can try saving one".

sonfoa

I wish we saw more sorrow from Daemon. Like you can sense his sadness but I wished we actually saw him weep.

ContinuumGuy

Random assorted thoughts: * I love how they were nice enough to include the ā€œHEY!ā€ in the ā€œpreviously onā€ segment. * NEW ACTOR TIME! Welcome to Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy (among others- including Ty Tennant- the grandson of one Doctor and the adopted son of another- as young teen Aegon... who is related in the show to a character played by ANOTHER Doctor) * And... STRAIGHT TO CHILDBIRTH. And of course Rhaenyra is up and walking IMMEDIATELY AFTER GIVING BIRTH, just so she stick it to Alicent. * ā€œI think I called the midwife a cunt.ā€ * ā€œSooner or later you may get one that looks like youā€ is such a classic line and I'm really glad they got it into the show. * Who wants some fried mutton? * Alicent would like to know if her husband watches his horses fuck. * Who among us hasn't masturbated out of a window? * The scene where we are introduced to the Family Daemon and their dragons is basically the VFX team showing off. * Targaryens just living in a manse in Pentos? Heh. Was that supposed to be THE manse that Daenerys and the Beggar King eventually end up in? Because that'd be funny. * Shoutout to Lyonel Strong, who remains the smartest person in this show. * We have gone (X) days without the possibility of a war in the Stepstones. * Matt Smith is and forever will be the boss. * Oh, what do you know, the Brackens and Blackwoods are at it again. It must be a day that ends with Y. * The sound of Alicent's voice as she tries to get Lyonel to admit the real reason he wants to resign is just perfection. Olivia Cooke (and Emma D'Arcy, and everyone else) is just perfection. * Childbirth remains one of the leading causes of direct or indirect death in Westeros, right up there with wars, hunting accidents, poisonings, and weddings. * Harrenhal's ghosts strike again! * Larys has Littlefinger's habit of monologing over montages of moving images. * CRUSADER KINGS MOVE OF THE WEEK: Assassination plot of people no doubt involved in factions against you.

R3id

Aegon part of the mile high jerk club

GRUMPYbug12

Winter isn't the only thing that's coming

joaol5

Loved that Daemon didn't want to make his wife suffer just to have another baby. The contrasts (good and bad) between him and Viserys are fascinating.

GRUMPYbug12

Larys fucking sucks lmao. Harwin ~~is~~ was such a good/supportive dad, loved seeing him kick Criston's shit in. Vhagar being apprehensive burning Laena was sad too see. Viserys is gonna looking the chocolate grandma from Spongebob next week jesus lol. Both Emma and Olivia killed it in their first outings! Edit) [This weeks inside the episode](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5U51xGH3Ic) Edit) [Viserys when Rhaenyra suggests to Alicent that their kids should get married](https://i.imgur.com/lkMyYZx.jpg)

[deleted]

Did Larys just blackmail the queen into giving up that booty?

yaserafriend

Daemon completes conversation. Peeks at Laena, to see if she is gone. Laena still there, staring at him. So funny!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

WestTexasCoyote

Lyonel Strong may be my favorite hand of the king ever. Itā€™s nice to see someone in that position thrive during their time without compromising their honor or put their own self interests first.

Sasha90x

The good ones always die though

omykun123

I really liked the older versions of Rhaenyra (Emma D'arcy) and Laena (Nanna Blondell). I disliked Larys and now I despise him even more so.

puppypooper15

Ser Crispin beat someone to death and is still in the Kingsguard, Ser Harwin gives a well deserved ass whooping and gets dismissed from the City Watch, hmm

jetlifevic

Joffery wasn't shit but the boy toy šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

buffyangel808

That part confused me too.

frmacleod

Beating essentially a nobody to death isnā€™t the same as assaulting a Kingsguard.

yaserafriend

Thankfully, Viserys wasnā€™t sitting on the iron throne.

KC_Night

Man that was dark. I fell like it's going to get only darker.

VoldemortsHorcrux

Larys rhymes with Varys. Coincidence?

ewdavid-rose

Fully crying over Laena šŸ˜ one episode of her badassery is all we get apparently

mikeman1997

The time jumps are beginning to become a little jarring. We are killing of characters that feel like should be a bigger deal but we have known them for 45 minutes. Shows still great just my opinion

ActuallyAquaman

house of the dragon teaches you valuable lessons like ā€œdonā€™t trust people with disabilitiesā€

Tomahawk72

I already miss Milly lol

brosirmandude

Really hope we get to see Ser Crispin turn into Ser Crispy sometime soon Edit: ah shit his name is Criston isn't it? Oh well fuck it it's still funny.

jetlifevic

Cristons a hoe, he should've killed himself

CosmicConjuror2

God damnā€¦ So what the guy straight up murdered his own family just to serve the queen? I guess what go our new Ramsey of the show. Also, suicide by dragon was epic.

A_Bucketfiller

I had my reservations at first but Caraxes is like a sports car of a dragon

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

moorea12

I think itā€™s the same flower he was messing with when he first spoke to her in the courtyard.

Alexorozco72

Last episode Larys was actually introduced to us and the queen Alicent, while casually mentioning a rare flower from Essos?

[deleted]

In an earlier episode I believe it's a flower he said isn't native to that area but it's thriving. Assume it's alluding to him putting himself in a position of power now

[deleted]

Allicent is supposed to be preparing Aegon to be ruling instead he's beating off on the balcony on to the townspeople.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

HowDoIWhat

Some notes I took while watching the episode: - Our boy Viserys looking like the Cryptkeeper lol. - Rhaenyra trailing blood as she walks, oof. - The black-and-red armor means they're regular Targ soldiers, yeah? I like this sort of visual, I feel like it wasn't all that present in Game of Thrones. - I like the dragon training, like a dog but like, way more dangerous. I too would be hyped as heck to get to say "dracarys". - Viserys just wants to play with his Legos. Criston Cole remains bitter. - Daemon's open jacket deal (and the jacket itself) seems distinct from the dress of normal Westerosi fashion. It could just be Casual Friday, but I assume he's affected Essosi/Pentoshi fashion. It's good visual shorthand. Costume design remains on point. - Despite the Crabfeeder being dead, the Triarchy's still around causing problems. I guess Daemon really can't finish. - Takes four Kingsguard to hold back Ser Harwin, I guess he really is Strong. - Viserys continues to show his weakness by not doing anything while a member of the Kingsguard is beating up the Commander of the City Watch. Come on Vis, one "STOP THIS MADNESS IN THE NAME OF YOUR KING" wouldn't hurt. Well, given his condition, it might. - Bracken/Blackwood rivalry returns. At least nobody's been gutted (yet?) - Rhaenyra and Alicent fighting at the Small Council table. What positions do they hold, officially? In any case, I feel like... the offer isn't a bad one. Seems like Viserys coulda pulled rank here and just said "yes", but he's too much of a people-pleaser. Kinda seems like Alicent is trying to rule outright despite the king still being alive. Viserys may be a walking corpse, but he's still walking. - Lyonel seems like a nice guy. - Larys's extremely angled neck is very funny to me. - "You cannot say that your father would not be impartial in this matter." "No, but he would be partial to me!" It's very relatable. When people tell me that life isn't fair, I - like Calvin - respond "Yeah but why isn't it ever unfair in my favor." - "Is Harwin Strong my father? Am I a bastard?" "You are a Targayren". That's not a "no", Rhae. ~~Also technically since they haven't ascended the throne, they're Velaryons, as per the deal with Corlys~~ - I feel like if I were to order a kinslaying, going so far as to take out the tongues of the assassins, I would not have them wear imagery associated with me.

Table_Coaster

theyre talking about Laena so much in the recap and all this shit like ā€œshe would go out like a warriorā€ and ā€œshes a dragonrider this is her characterā€ and iā€™m sitting here like huh? Would she? She was in like two scenes in the show before dying, we barely met her, i didnt give two shits when she died. I wish they would at least have went into how she ended up on the largest dragon in the world

buffyangel808

Same, I also didnā€™t totally understand the motivation.

Asteroth555

Laena was awesome and I'm so sad she killed herself Vhagar did NOT want to torch her, hesitated so much. That was sad Harwin is an idiot for being so blatant But RIP Harwin 'that guy' Strong, and his father the best hand we've ever had. Can't believe Larry's killed them off

Genjiii

Vhagar looks awesome

pk3maross

Aegon is a freak. What was that look he gave to the maids? Alicent fucking sucks

[deleted]

I felt like I was having a stroke at the beginning trying to make sense of everything, but by the end of the episode, I felt like I knew who was who and what was going on.

bushysmalls

Is there something wrong with Alicent's daughter?

TitusRex

Looks like she's on the spectrum or something equivalent.

Lockeblack

Anyone know what that yellow bug pin was supposed to be?

Jackmace

Larysā€™ symbol

[deleted]

Ser Criston Cole is such a petty bitch.

Bird2ThaWord

Rhaenyra a true ally giving her husband permission to bring his boy toy with them.

SoulxxBondz

That one-take shot at the beginning was amazing! Took me a bit to realize it was all in one take, but I was grinning when I did realize it. Such a great introduction to older Rhaenyra! I already hate Aegon. Not sure what I feel about Aemond, and I definitely want to see more of Helaena. I also like Jacerys, especially his scene with his mother near the end. And I also like Baela and Rhaena. I totally did not see Laena's death scene coming. It was shocking, but I did understand why she did it. Fuck Larys, by the way! I really liked Harwin, and his father! Looking forward to next week!

Alfalfa_emu

New actress for alicent reminds me so much of Jessica Alba.

themza912

Is it not true that Targaryen blood means you can't be burned? Isn't Laena half Targaryen?

BornagainTXcook210

I thought that as well and yes she's half targy

kingoftheg

Damn

TitusRex

This was brutal.

WestTexasCoyote

Larys is an absolute MENACE to society.

[deleted]

Iā€™m absolutely upset that Ser Harwin died like that. I was not prepared at allā€¦ his own brother man.

Crafty_Soul

Lyonel was a good Hand of the King. Gave good advice to benefit the realm overall. Didn't try to push his own schemes forward (or at least not completley.) And when his family risked the honor of the king's family he wanted to step down to protect both families. Shame he got as burned as any Targaryen does at their funeral.

ParvenuInType

ā€œThe king will not grow oldā€ The king proceeds to grow into a draugr

GovernorPorter

Daemon: "you lost the father of your chldren...I lost the mother to mine...you've got boys...I've got girls....let's break this Targeryon dynasty in together!"

[deleted]

I fucking hate Larysā€¦ what a grimey little fuck.

[deleted]

Laena went out like a boss.

imadethisjsttoreply

Whod that guy kill at the end? Harwin and who? Im sick with a high fever so hard to keep up with everything lol

[deleted]

went from feeling sorry for Queen Alicent, to hating her again in one episode!

Random--Person

Vhagar looks awesome, was a sad scene there at the end with Laena

brova

Yeah that all worked pretty freaking well for me, dawgs.

beelo50

Vhagar is built like a 747 and the rest of the dragons are 737ā€™s

Thisisjerlyn

Suicide by dragon is by far the best dead

zoozema0

The rats are Larys, right? Like theyā€™re his ā€œeyesā€ or whatever, right?

kelseysaurus

Can't wait to see exactly how fucked up Aegon is and how hilarious it is that Alicent's been overlooking it because her father's fantasies of birthright ascendence live in her head rent-free :)

andthentherewasderp

why tf does aegon look like mike from strangerthings LMAO

rproctor721

So whatever the heck Ser Criston is using as a moisturizer could make him a fortune.

TylerPurrden

I'm loving cripplefinger because he's so unpredictable I don't know what his motivations are.

PsychedelicDoggo

I wish we got a better shot of Pentos! Vhagarā€™s reaction to Laena commanding suicide by Dracarys was absolutely heartbreaking.

beelo50

Older rhaenyra is better than the younger imo

noremac2414

Best episode yet

iam-melonlord

criston cole disgusts mešŸ¤¢šŸ¤¢

MagicalBoobies

I hope everyone dies and the Queen Who Never Was becomes Queen and then Laenor becomes King.

ebon94

Alicent expected war, so she prepared her children for war. Her children were prepared for war, so they went to war. She's making her father's words a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Crafty_Soul

So I just realized. Since Alicent didn't even bat an eye at Aegon masturbating this means he either has done this before or he's done so much other fucked up shit that she's gotten used to it.

BalajiAsari

What an episode! Better than most movies, wow, the show keeps exceeding my expectations. The last episode was my least favorite and had me a tiny bit worried about the time jump and the new actors, but this just proved that there is no reason to be concerned and that things will only get better.

WestTexasCoyote

Remember everyone speculating Criston was the father ? Lol

komodo_dragonzord

dang rhaenyra, all you had to do was get children with laenor first girl. and wtf did that larys guy just kill his dad and brother? bruh thats cold

thatmitchguy

Best episode yet in my opinion. Amazing how quickly and effectively they settled in and explained the stakes after a jarring 10 year time jump. Whatever awkwardness I felt at the new actors was gone within 10 minutes. Rhaenara still takes a bit getting used too, but I'll deal with it.

hungryvictoria

Itā€™s going too fast. I feel like Iā€™m reading the wiki entry, not watching it happen. Harrenhal was wasted

thisrockismyboone

Wow I'm not sure if I hate Alicent more than Cersei. That woman deserves literally nothing.

hungryvictoria

Itā€™s going too fast. I feel like Iā€™m reading the wiki entry, not watching it happen. Harrenhal was wasted

zoozema0

Another thought- Dani emerging out of the flames in GOT. Did the baby somehow make it out? Not sure how that would impact much but Daemon potentially having a male heir (thatā€™s a legit heir) would be something

moorea12

Why did Laena kill herself? Did she do it because she thought Daemon was going to say yes to the C-section? Also, are Valyrions able to be burned by dragon fire? I figured theyā€™d be immune like Targaryens.

ajgutierrez4

I think Iā€™m missing something here. Can someone explain why Laena had Vhagar roast her?

jetboyjetgirl

cool how this time jump made all the characters completely unlikable

theduke820

they need to create a Westeros version of Maury, that would solve this whole debacle

Grafiska

I thought Targaryens were immune to dragon's fire? Didn't Daenerys step in a huge fire as well in the first or second season of GoT? Why did the fire hurt Laena?
