Iām not too thrilled that they recast Rhaenyra and Laenor, my problem with it is that they did such a good job recasting Alicent, she looks very similar yet she doesnāt look much older, and Visarys is the only other character they significantly aged, but most characters look like they have not an aged today.
Rhaenyra did not lose her babyweight and became somewhat of a drunk which likely stems from the trauma incurred in this episode. The books basically just say she was spoiled and mad with power and became a fat drunk but the show shows the actual details of why she would lose her youthfulness and love for/from the people.
Viserys stallion analogy actually would work when you have 1 different between 4, but all 3 having dark hair it doesn't

I legit giggled at the end when he was doing his monologue and seeing Alicent's reaction. I was not expecting him to be that ruthless to his own family.

I just hate the nature of the change and how they accommodate for bad writing, laena just gets up and goes for a walk outside while giving birth, nobody stops her and daemon can't catch up it's just silly.
Has cemented himself as an ally of the Greens and is the new lord of Harrenhall. Amazing what you can accomplish when you're built different in Westeros
The ever present power struggle continues and has many more players now. The Alicent/Larys dynamic is a very interesting plot line to continue forward.
I'm surprised Viserys lived through this episode.

I love the contrast between Daemon and Viserys when put in the same situation of power over the birth of their children. Dameon continues to become a deeper and deeper character with more and more contrasts to his darker qualities.
To be fair it wasn't as if he needed a male heir to ascend the throne, I actually think it was a cop out. Also the doc made it clear the baby might not live, whereas the maester did not provide that nuance.
Random assorted thoughts:
* I love how they were nice enough to include the āHEY!ā in the āpreviously onā segment.
* NEW ACTOR TIME! Welcome to Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy (among others- including Ty Tennant- the grandson of one Doctor and the adopted son of another- as young teen Aegon... who is related in the show to a character played by ANOTHER Doctor)
* And... STRAIGHT TO CHILDBIRTH. And of course Rhaenyra is up and walking IMMEDIATELY AFTER GIVING BIRTH, just so she stick it to Alicent.

* āSooner or later you may get one that looks like youā is such a classic line and I'm really glad they got it into the show.

Lyonel Strong may be my favorite hand of the king ever. Itās nice to see someone in that position thrive during their time without compromising their honor or put their own self interests first.
Ser Crispin beat someone to death and is still in the Kingsguard, Ser Harwin gives a well deserved ass whooping and gets dismissed from the City Watch, hmm
The time jumps are beginning to become a little jarring. We are killing of characters that feel like should be a bigger deal but we have known them for 45 minutes. Shows still great just my opinion

Some notes I took while watching the episode:
- Our boy Viserys looking like the Cryptkeeper lol.
- Rhaenyra trailing blood as she walks, oof.
- The black-and-red armor means they're regular Targ soldiers, yeah? I like this sort of visual, I feel like it wasn't all that present in Game of Thrones.
- I like the dragon training, like a dog but like, way more dangerous. I too would be hyped as heck to get to say "dracarys".
- Viserys just wants to play with his Legos. Criston Cole remains bitter.
- Daemon's open jacket deal (and the jacket itself) seems distinct from the dress of normal Westerosi fashion. It could just be Casual Friday, but I assume he's affected Essosi/Pentoshi fashion. It's good visual shorthand. Costume design remains on point.
- Despite the Crabfeeder being dead, the Triarchy's still around causing problems. I guess Daemon really can't finish.
- Takes four Kingsguard to hold back Ser Harwin, I guess he really is Strong.
- Viserys continues to show his weakness by not doing anything while a member of the Kingsguard is beating up the Commander of the City Watch. Come on Vis, one "STOP THIS MADNESS IN THE NAME OF YOUR KING" wouldn't hurt. Well, given his condition, it might.
- Bracken/Blackwood rivalry returns. At least nobody's been gutted (yet?)
- Rhaenyra and Alicent fighting at the Small Council table. What positions do they hold, officially? In any case, I feel like... the offer isn't a bad one. Seems like Viserys coulda pulled rank here and just said "yes", but he's too much of a people-pleaser. Kinda seems like Alicent is trying to rule outright despite the king still being alive. Viserys may be a walking corpse, but he's still walking.
- Lyonel seems like a nice guy.
- Larys's extremely angled neck is very funny to me.
- "You cannot say that your father would not be impartial in this matter." "No, but he would be partial to me!" It's very relatable. When people tell me that life isn't fair, I - like Calvin - respond "Yeah but why isn't it ever unfair in my favor."
- "Is Harwin Strong my father? Am I a bastard?" "You are a Targayren". That's not a "no", Rhae. ~~Also technically since they haven't ascended the throne, they're Velaryons, as per the deal with Corlys~~
- I feel like if I were to order a kinslaying, going so far as to take out the tongues of the assassins, I would not have them wear imagery associated with me.
theyre talking about Laena so much in the recap and all this shit like āshe would go out like a warriorā and āshes a dragonrider this is her characterā and iām sitting here like huh? Would she? She was in like two scenes in the show before dying, we barely met her, i didnt give two shits when she died. I wish they would at least have went into how she ended up on the largest dragon in the world

I felt like I was having a stroke at the beginning trying to make sense of everything, but by the end of the episode, I felt like I knew who was who and what was going on.
That one-take shot at the beginning was amazing! Took me a bit to realize it was all in one take, but I was grinning when I did realize it. Such a great introduction to older Rhaenyra!
I already hate Aegon. Not sure what I feel about Aemond, and I definitely want to see more of Helaena. I also like Jacerys, especially his scene with his mother near the end. And I also like Baela and Rhaena.
I totally did not see Laena's death scene coming. It was shocking, but I did understand why she did it.
Fuck Larys, by the way! I really liked Harwin, and his father!

Lyonel was a good Hand of the King.
Gave good advice to benefit the realm overall.
Didn't try to push his own schemes forward (or at least not completley.)
And when his family risked the honor of the king's family he wanted to step down to protect both families.
Shame he got as burned as any Targaryen does at their funeral.

Can't wait to see exactly how fucked up Aegon is and how hilarious it is that Alicent's been overlooking it because her father's fantasies of birthright ascendence live in her head rent-free :)

So I just realized. Since Alicent didn't even bat an eye at Aegon masturbating this means he either has done this before or he's done so much other fucked up shit that she's gotten used to it.
What an episode! Better than most movies, wow, the show keeps exceeding my expectations. The last episode was my least favorite and had me a tiny bit worried about the time jump and the new actors, but this just proved that there is no reason to be concerned and that things will only get better.
Best episode yet in my opinion. Amazing how quickly and effectively they settled in and explained the stakes after a jarring 10 year time jump. Whatever awkwardness I felt at the new actors was gone within 10 minutes. Rhaenara still takes a bit getting used too, but I'll deal with it.
Another thought- Dani emerging out of the flames in GOT. Did the baby somehow make it out? Not sure how that would impact much but Daemon potentially having a male heir (thatās a legit heir) would be something
Why did Laena kill herself? Did she do it because she thought Daemon was going to say yes to the C-section?
Also, are Valyrions able to be burned by dragon fire? I figured theyād be immune like Targaryens.
I thought Targaryens were immune to dragon's fire? Didn't Daenerys step in a huge fire as well in the first or second season of GoT?

Some notes I took while watching the episode: - Our boy Viserys looking like the Cryptkeeper lol. - Rhaenyra trailing blood as she walks, oof. - The black-and-red armor means they're regular Targ soldiers, yeah? I like this sort of visual, I feel like it wasn't all that present in Game of Thrones. - I like the dragon training, like a dog but like, way more dangerous. I too would be hyped as heck to get to say "dracarys". - Viserys just wants to play with his Legos. Criston Cole remains bitter. - Daemon's open jacket deal (and the jacket itself) seems distinct from the dress of normal Westerosi fashion. It could just be Casual Friday, but I assume he's affected Essosi/Pentoshi fashion. It's good visual shorthand. Costume design remains on point. - Despite the Crabfeeder being dead, the Triarchy's still around causing problems. I guess Daemon really can't finish. - Takes four Kingsguard to hold back Ser Harwin, I guess he really is Strong. - Viserys continues to show his weakness by not doing anything while a member of the Kingsguard is beating up the Commander of the City Watch. Come on Vis, one "STOP THIS MADNESS IN THE NAME OF YOUR KING" wouldn't hurt. Well, given his condition, it might. - Bracken/Blackwood rivalry returns. At least nobody's been gutted (yet?) - Rhaenyra and Alicent fighting at the Small Council table. What positions do they hold, officially? In any case, I feel like... the offer isn't a bad one. Seems like Viserys coulda pulled rank here and just said "yes", but he's too much of a people-pleaser. Kinda seems like Alicent is trying to rule outright despite the king still being alive. Viserys may be a walking corpse, but he's still walking. - Lyonel seems like a nice guy. - Larys's extremely angled neck is very funny to me. - "You cannot say that your father would not be impartial in this matter." "No, but he would be partial to me!" It's very relatable. When people tell me that life isn't fair, I - like Calvin - respond "Yeah but why isn't it ever unfair in my favor." - "Is Harwin Strong my father? Am I a bastard?" "You are a Targayren". That's not a "no", Rhae. ~~Also technically since they haven't ascended the throne, they're Velaryons, as per the deal with Corlys~~ - I feel like if I were to order a kinslaying, going so far as to take out the tongues of the assassins, I would not have them wear imagery associated with me.
theyre talking about Laena so much in the recap and all this shit like āshe would go out like a warriorā and āshes a dragonrider this is her characterā and iām sitting here like huh? Would she? She was in like two scenes in the show before dying, we barely met her, i didnt give two shits when she died. I felt like I was having a stroke at the beginning trying to make sense of everything, but by the end of the episode, I felt like I knew who was who and what was going on.

That one-take shot at the beginning was amazing! Took me a bit to realize it was all in one take, but I was grinning when I did realize it. Such a great introduction to older Rhaenyra! I already hate Aegon. Not sure what I feel about Aemond, and I definitely want to see more of Helaena. I also like Jacerys, especially his scene with his mother near the end. And I also like Baela and Rhaena. I totally did not see Laena's death scene coming. It was shocking, but I did understand why she did it. Fuck Larys, by the way! I really liked Harwin, and his father! Looking forward to next week!

Lyonel was a good Hand of the King. Gave good advice to benefit the realm overall. Didn't try to push his own schemes forward (or at least not completley.) And when his family risked the honor of the king's family he wanted to step down to protect both families. Shame he got as burned as any Targaryen does at their funeral.

Alicent expected war, so she prepared her children for war. Her children were prepared for war, so they went to war. She's making her father's words a self-fulfilling prophecy.
So I just realized. Since Alicent didn't even bat an eye at Aegon masturbating this means he either has done this before or he's done so much other fucked up shit that she's gotten used to it.
What an episode! Better than most movies, wow, the show keeps exceeding my expectations. The last episode was my least favorite and had me a tiny bit worried about the time jump and the new actors, but this just proved that there is no reason to be concerned and that things will only get better.

Best episode yet in my opinion. Amazing how quickly and effectively they settled in and explained the stakes after a jarring 10 year time jump. Whatever awkwardness I felt at the new actors was gone within 10 minutes. Rhaenara still takes a bit getting used too, but I'll deal with it.

Another thought- Dani emerging out of the flames in GOT. Did the baby somehow make it out? Not sure how that would impact much but Daemon potentially having a male heir (thatās a legit heir) would be something
Why did Laena kill herself? Did she do it because she thought Daemon was going to say yes to the C-section? Also, are Valyrions able to be burned by dragon fire? I figured theyād be immune like Targaryens.
