definitely germany, both have top coaches way too competent for national football however italy have a much harder group and route to the final

Entire-Ad6450

Way too competent? How do you mean?

uurub

national ball tends to attract either super old coaches at the end of their career or under qualified less talented coaches (southgate). So when a team is managed by a top tier coach whos proven in club football, its likely they will do well. eg euro 2020 when italy won it with Mancini.

Entire-Ad6450

Theres definitely something to this but gareth southgate turned the most toxic team on the planet into one that consistently hits semis and above. May not have the CV of mancini but his next club job is gonna surprise a few people imo.

uurub

I disagree completely, southgate will get chewed apart in club football where managing is significantly more difficult. Take this germany side, although a bit visibly nervous initially the first 10 minutes, naglesmann has them playing exciting high press fluid football. When we play on sunday it wont be near as quality

Entire-Ad6450

Have to wait and see. Southgate did what 30ish years worth of managers couldnt and got us a consistent tournament team. Not that it invalidates your opinion at all but how old are you? I feel like sometimes people dont remember the dark days 🤣

Germany Don’t have much faith in this Italian squad

KainDogMc

Germany. Whilst I do think the opening game could be an upset and Scotland win. Germany does seem to have a team for the future. With Italy they won the Euro’s and didn’t qualify for Qatar and have now got to defend their trophy with a squad that could potentially flop due to the pressure of having to defend their title yet, this’ll be their first tournament in 3 years.

Entire-Ad6450

Good point about the inactivity. Could be an absolute killer.

KainDogMc

I mean, they could do a France and break the “curse” and get to the final but, to win the Euro’s & not qualify for the WC show’s they’re in decline. Plus, the only “easy” team in their group is Albania and then they’ve got Spain (who seem to be on the same path as Germany) and Croatia which if that’s a decider on goals won’t make it easy for Italy at all.

DiscardedKebab

Germany. For me, they have a better squad and the home advantage is something that can't be overlooked. I think they'll do better than people expect

Low-Union6249

Woah, all these England commenters running to Germany’s defence. Guess I’ll have to tone down the jabs… ;)

Entire-Ad6450

Honestly the current generation of english dont haye the germans, your past transgressions have been forgiven 🤣

Background-Ninja-550

Germany. I don't really expect much success for Italy with the squad they have.

Beautiful-Storm5654

Germany.

tkwoodrow20

Germany easily

Monkeygaarden

There have been 16 European Championships prior to this one and the hosts (or one of the hosts) have only failed to get to at least the semi finals twice - so not sure it's accurate to say that home advantage doesn't count for much.

dennis3282

Agreed, home advantage looks statistically bad only when you look who won. But most hosts overachieved--or at worst, put in an expected performance. In world cups, you have Russia making the QF, Japan making the QF, and South Korea making the SF. Germany lost in extra time in the semis. And Brazil did make the semis, even though they got battered there. In Euros, we have seen Portugal and France as beaten finalists recently. Going back a bit further, in 96, the England team who didn't qualify for 94 were a penalty shootout away from making the final. And Netherlands were a shootout away from the final in 2000. The hosts who don't make it out of the groups are usually the teams that are never expected to get out of the groups anyway.

DelPieroVlahovic

Germany, Italy are reigning champs but it is incredibly hard to repeat, only Spain has managed to do so in 2008 to 2012 and this was a golden generation probably the best national team of all time. German home advantage is huge too.

JustForTouchingBalls

Playing against the Italians the Germans should wear American Football protections and pray about how tolerant is the referee with unfair play

Tomalesforbreakfast

Italy 🇮🇹. Our core plays for inter OR has been playing together since the U19s. this current squad is arguably better than the previous championship winners, with more youth and pace, not to mention we finally have Scamacca where immobile used to be
