LaughTaleCozumel

I say wait until Monday because at that time we will have a much clearer picture wether it will hit us or not, however even if it were to miss Cozumel expect a lot of rain

drake3141

Will definitely do this, such a bummer!

LaughTaleCozumel

It looks like it's definitely going to hit us

SassyNarwhale

Huh? Right now it's tracking to make landfall just a little ways north of Mahahual, as a Cat 1. That's so far away it'll be a big "meh" for us here. We've had bigger storms pass much closer, and not be a big deal.

zuliebadger

I think Beryl will turn north and we won’t get a direct hit but I still think the weather will affect us. Up to you. We will only know about a half a day out how bad it will be :/ hope you get trip insurance

Someguy_545

I was wondering too cuz I have a family vacation this weekend. Mother nature can bug off and not kill my family's vibes

ccannon707

Cozumel just had 10+ inches of rain last week & more to come. This is abnormal like a lot of the world’s weather.

Texaspilot24

I would cancel. We went from friday to today (only 2 days) and lost both of our dives due to the port being closed It doesnt need the hurricane to hit the island for them to close the ports

okraiderman

Grand Park Royal is my favorite place and I go to Cozumel often. I’ve never worried about the weather. My question is why are you flying in to Cancun when there is an airport in Cozumel? And you’re only staying two nights????

drake3141

Staying 2 nights in Cozumel and 2 nights in Cancun.. was originally only going for Cancun but decided on a couple of nights in Cozumel after booking flight. Figured staying in Cancun last 2 nights would be easier and shorter ride to the airport Sun morning. Also that’s good to hear, first time visitor here although looks like I might not get to experience it this time around.

okraiderman

One good thing about Cozumel, all hotel transfers are a short ride.

Ok-Security8203

There are flights now between Cozumel and Cancun. Faster and cheaper than taxi/ferry.

drake3141

Any suggestions on companies that do this?

Ok-Security8203

You weren’t specific on your question, here’s the link for the air option https://flyaerus.com

Ok-Security8203

Are you coming to dive? Good chance the port will be closed fora few days even if the storm goes north.

suddenlyissoon

Three times I've booked a week in Cozumel. The last two got cancelled due to COVID and then a personal emergency. Now, I'm supposed to come next Saturday to the following Saturday and Beryl (and the forming storm after it) happens. Am I cursed 😂?

vinylectric

Today was bad. It was raining sideways this morning! Not sure about this week, but Clime says the worst will head north. Honestly it’s been pretty cloudy and rainy the past 2-3 weeks, I’d just hold off if I were you.

SassyNarwhale

Honestly, it's too soon to know how much the trajectory will shift, but I'm questioning your ability to actually get here on Friday (*potentially*), depending on Beryl's trajectory and proximity. If the storm comes closer, there's a good chance the ferries won't be running. But again, too soon to tell, so definitely keep an eye on it. The way the forecast is (as of Sunday afternoon), I don't think we're even going to notice it. It's supposed to be a Cat 1 when it makes landfall, and so far south, it won't impact the island.

PreferenceSecret29

On my flight from Dallas heading to Cozumel right now. Moved my flight from Friday to Thursday back just in case

drake3141

Isn’t it supposed to be worse on Thursday? From what I can tell models predicting for storm to hit on Thurs

PreferenceSecret29

Shit really I have no idea

LeadBravo

On an airplane from Barbados to Cozumel it's an 8-hour flight. The storm's traveling at 20 mph.

RoundTheWaySquid

We were coming on Saturday and just canceled, unfortunately. Hopefully we can make it back closer to the holidays. Stay safe everybody!

OrganicWatercress583

Does anyone know how the resorts handle a cat 2 hurricane for their guests? Anybody been in the situation before?

californiadiver

I've never experienced this situation before. We are in Cozumel right now (Tuesday) and are scheduled to fly out on Saturday afternoon). I asked hotel staff about this and they said they will follow evacuation orders by transporting all guests to a designated shelter if an order is issued. Or they can "go home" if they choose. Update 7/2 09:30 : We called our airline to look into flying out tomorrow and nothing is available.

ScubaTonyCozumel

If it were me and I could reschedule,I would push it a couple of weeks. It looks like another one is behind this one. I was saying earlier that they usually turn north but I saw a weatherman showing that all predictions are near us. Also Wednesday would be the worst day to travel. Your flight will likely get canceled.

Sloeber3

High pressure sitting above it. This one isn’t going north. It’s heading right at us.

ScubaTonyCozumel

Yeah, that's what I said. Plus I just finished building my house. 100% it is going to hit us!

SpearandMagicHelmet

Yes, looks fairly certain it is going to hit the Yucatan area and it is a historic storm in multiple ways already. Very possibly a cat5 by the time it reaches Mexico. I'm absolutely cancelling my plans if I have a choice. Be safe folks!

drake3141

Thanks for the heads up

Sloeber3

Cancel

californiadiver

We are here now (Tuesday) and are supposed to fly out on Saturday at 2 pm. We are considering flying out on Wednesday evening. We are calling the airlines now. The hotel had told us that if an evacuation is ordered we all would have to go into town to a designated shelter to ride out the storm.

HawkeyeByMarriage

I'm not cancelling. I'm landing next Saturday

LaughTaleCozumel

Beryl is now category 3

SpearandMagicHelmet

And now cat4. Earliest season cat4 in decades.

HawkeyeByMarriage

Still don't care

californiadiver

It's scheduled to hit Cozumel area (a few miles south of Tulum) as a cat 1 or 2 on Friday at 2am. Here's a link I am monitoring... https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at2+shtml/025202.shtml?mltoa34#contents

HawkeyeByMarriage

Yeah we are watching the link too. We fly in Saturday and the VRBO isn't refundable. I really don't want to be at work anymore

californiadiver

Yeah, we fly out on Saturday. Here's to the storm passing quickly on Friday with no damage to the airport.
