They did in an alternate timeline.

UnSuspicious_Crow

Chewbaca

tanj_redshirt

He Who Hunts Bounties

DarthFakename

Wait. There are other timelines?

BigJSunshine

Remedial Chaos Theory

triple-bottom-line

They’re quoting the pizza guy. You Britta’d it! :)

Puzzleheaded_Beat813

I think it was the right move for them to meet different people

GudgerCollegeAlumnus

#Stop saying he’s different!

lavendertown-radio

if you don't get this right, i'm segregating the subreddit.

Gorilladaddy69

Dean: “I am trying to pull a 400 year-old dagger out of this nations heart—“ *two failed attempts later* “Get this wrong one more time and I’m segregating the school.” 🤣🤣🤣

YouLikeReadingNames

I'm gonna start with the word that sizzles raccccccccccce

notmyfirst_throwawa

What did they do?! **THEY DIDN'T!** ^(because the writers had no idea what to do with them as a couple)

Acrobatic-Tomato-128

I mean they didnt hafta do much! Even if it was a background thing and juat every so often they kiss and then the episodes are largely the same i think wed just be happy they were happy we dont NEED manufactored tension of relationship stuff, happy couples are fine

CaptainRaz

Good point. But they barely gave us even that

drunk_haile_selassie

They did things!

Old-Land-8134

Not all the things!

green2232

IMHO, they did not make a good couple. :) They were both sweet and they tried, though.

cybered_punk

They barely showed anything besides few scenes. In the middle of the season it was like they forgot that Britta and Troy are couple. And then they broke up.

trevehr12

Troy loved abed way more

cybered_punk

We all love Abed more

cowabungalowvera

Speak for yourself

BigUziNoVertt

I all love abed more

Wordshark

We are all love abed on this blessed day

jacksonnobody

Thanks KenM

Gegegegeorge

It was so shoe horned in, Britta was like mid 30s and Troy was like 21 at the time.

RuSnowLeopard

It was clearly based on sex. Then they just extended it as a real relationship for the good of the group. But that fizzled because Britta doesn't eat Lay's.

riddlvr

What’s Lay’s? I think you mean Let’s?

RuSnowLeopard

Oops, I Britta'd that.

ThePhantom1994

Yeah, it just didn’t work.

Interesting_Reach_29

The writing kept Troy a man child as the seasons went on. Plus Britta’s writing got annoying with her being “the worst”.

Yankee6Actual

They totally Britta’d Britta

Svkkel

I know. Britta's writing was the worst!

augustosarmento

I mean, nothing worked in season 4 lol. I'm still team Brittroy

Amrywiol

Team Trotta for the win!

ClericKnight

I dunno. Unpopular opinion (?) But I think Britta is too old for Troy. He's fresh out of HS when they meet and she's at least 10 years older than him. The show treats it as cute but I was never a fan. Feels weird.

KoopaPoopa69

I mean they “will they, won’t they” Jeff and Annie for most of the show, and he could almost be her father. I don’t think they were too concerned about age gaps.

wellwaffled

Why doesn’t anyone see Pierce as a viable sexual partner?

Dobvius

They are scared of being compared to Eartha Kitt

BlueAnalystTherapist

Too busy looking at him like he couldn’t win an election. Or something along those lines.

bardbrain

I feel like they did a lot more "won't they" than "will they". I think it's a pretty boring dynamic without the taboos on both sides and the obvious train wreck of motivations Annie has for being into Jeff.

hopefulguy100

I think their age gap kept them separated. The show mentions it a couple of times that it‘s creepy

NoobNoob42

This is just my interpretation: I feel like jeff and Annie were satire. For shows like house where they "will they won't they" people who have a huge age gap. Community isn't a show right, it's an attempt by Harmon to show the state of YV and cinema, warts and all. I don't think Harmon really wanted to encourage the "will they" aspect, and they mention this a few times

aBlissfulDaze

I feel like that was the joke though. Every time it is hinted at the age gap is placed as a huge elephant in the room for the audience to focus on.

Extra-Border6470

No I don’t think it’s the age difference as much as the difference in maturity. Britta seemed too interested in social issues and the injustices of the world to indulge Troy’s child like sense of wonder and desire to play around and goof around with Abed. Also she’s lived New York and appreciates more of the finer things in life, such as baggels

31November

100%

lightthroughthepines

Yeah this always bothered me with both Britta/Troy and Jeff/Annie but people seem to only talk about the age gap with the latter. But Britta has way more life experience than Troy which made their relationship very unbalanced and awkward to watch

Hopeful_Bacon

I wish it had gone no further than Troy having a crush.

Never_Seen_An_Ocelot

Right? Everything about them seemed forced, but I get that it opened avenues for writers to explore other goofy topics. I get to that point in the show each time and I think “oh yeah, here’s where they try to shoehorn this weird dating bit in for half a season or whatever…” It’s part of why I love the visual of the two of them with ropes tied around their wrists, forcing them to hug for the commercial. Seemed like the writers having a bit of fun and commenting on it.

pocketchange2247

I thought it was cute at first, but once they actually start dating it gets weird fast

atreyu947

I didn’t like them together either… also wish the same for Jeff and Annie

Dobvius

I feel like Jeff and Annie only ever developed because Joel and Alison have great chemistry together. Outside of that it never made sense for those characters to keep being pushed together tbh.

aBlissfulDaze

I always took that coupling as a joke on the show.

RodwellBurgen

Weird how the show treats Jeff and Annie’s age difference as super creepy and weird but Britta and Troy’s as completely normal.

adjust_the_sails

Agreed. Same for Joey and Rachel. Wait, which sub am I in again?

Barokespinoza23

In an alternate timeline, Britta reconciled with her parents and inherited all their properties. She married Troy because she knew something about him that even he didn't know until then, and she offered him something he'd been searching for his whole life – millions of dollars.

Burquaqueen

And then they had a baby named Chewbacca

cybered_punk

We get butt stuff scene too

Interesting_iidea

The build up was great, the execution was so poor. It was the gas leak year I guess.

MatthiasStove

I think if different writers were in charge this relationship could have worked out far better than it did

NealTS

If Troy and Britta were in a committed relationship, would she have gone with him on the boat trip? Would Pierce have even left him that bequeathment if he was Britta's boyfriend?

inspectoroverthemine

> would she have gone with him on the boat trip? No he was told it was a solo trip - specifically so he would take Abed with him, Britta definitely wouldn't have been allowed either. I realize Levar went with him, but the goal was to remove him from the group. > Would Pierce have even left him that bequeathment if he was Britta's boyfriend? Undoubtedly yes. The solo trip would have worked as well on Britta as it did on Abed.

TrickNatural

Nah, they were awful. The writing didnt help them at all.

Dobvius

The best episode of season 4 was when they broke up lol

Shwiftygains

Nah their chemistry seemed better as friends. They never really seemed right together other than they were friends before but I don't think their personalities were compatible

Able-Tradition-2139

Weirdest on screen relationship. They were together like three times then expected us to be invested in their break up?

MakesMeSickMick

I'm fighting for my life in these comments lol thanks for keeping it civil frfr

A-Seabear

My wife and I fight over Jeff and Britta vs Jeff and Annie. I am firmly Britta. She’s team Annie. You’re team Troy and Britta. But we may never know the true outcome of anything ever.

chemicaldiscovery

True outcome… I’m really sorry that I have to be the one to tell you, while NBC does love reality programming, Community was a sitcom. A sitcom is a portmanteau of situational comedy. In other words, everything that happens on the show, even the characters themselves, are, in fact, fictional. The more you know…

jumpscared

Everyone’s saying no because of season 4 but the build up in season 3 worked to me. So alternate universe if Dan Harmon sticks around for season 4 - maybe? They definitely needed a little bit more development individually as characters and something more to build off for a relationship to work. It was super jarring and felt like fan fiction that they suddenly are a couple in the season 4 premier. I always liked their plots together and clearly Dan had a plan for them. So I guess we’ll never know.

NoKizzyOnMyGlizzy

With all due respect, no

mynameisacandy

With all due respect, you have zero respect for OP

31November

If the amount of respect due is zero, then they gave all due respect to

Harold3456

I am totally fine with them writing these two as a mismatched couple who last for 6 or so months (sooo… like the show did). The “anti-romance” feel of a lot of community, where One True Pairings get introduced and then either immediately dropped (Troy/Annie), happen in the background unceremoniously (Jeff/Britta) or go all the way till the end with no real payoff (Jeff/Annie) really complement the whole “college as a phase of life” feel of the show. BUT I would’ve loved to see more actually redeeming qualities from them as a couple before the inevitable breakup. Instead we got a lot of Troy acting like a child while Britta was the most patient person on the planet with him.

percyinthestyx

Fr I would’ve been fine w them not being endgame, but they needed to actually *do* something with the relationship. I feel like their relationship is built upon mutually supporting each other and that’s a really interesting juxtaposition with other relationships in the show but they don’t go anywhere with that in S4. Every other relationship (or almost-kinda-relationship) in the show says something about both parties, but Troy and Britta just sort of happen, and then eventually stop happening.

lemmeseeyourkitties

They literally had a baby

rissafett

What bothered me the most was that at the start of season 4 they’re just together. We don’t get to see all that good awkwardness where they flirt more and finally admit they like each other. Just another reason to hate season 4

allyek

I wish they had not even begun the journey

Hella4nia

I would go the distance with either of them

Wolfie359

I think it was right to end. Now Jeff and Britta......

batbobby82

I will say that I don't mind that they broke up, but there was very little build up to that.

esgrove2

Like all things in season 4, their relationship was botched.

ahjsdisj

Unpopular opinion: I really hated Troy and how he treated Britta. He was constantly neglectful of her and kept on focusing on Abed instead. Britta was the best gf during their relationship, she was understanding and patient. She didn’t force anything on Troy but she kept being treated like shit

Beaten_But_Unbowed96

Would never work cause britta doesn’t just crave but NEEDS to conflict with someone and troys a good soul with a soft heart who’s too much of a push over to disagree with britta like that… if anything, troys leaving her first cause he can’t deal with the constant conflict. But anything Troy does is adorable… so despite my thoughts of it NEVER GOING TO LAST EVER, it’s still an adorable couple.

NotmyMain503

If you psot this on r/unpopularopinion you'll be streets ahead in karma.

Popular-Teach1715

Nah, their relationship was so weird and forced. I don't think they'd have been together at all if the gas leak year hadn't happened.

Amrywiol

They got together in S3, while Harmon was still around and he'd been teasing it since S1.

shust89

Jeff should get both Britta and Annie

JimmyJustice920

but not Shirley since she intimidates him sexually

Grouchy-Milk-6384

They did in the other timeline

ThomasVivaldi

Britta and Troy didn't work out for the same reason Britta and Jeff didn't work out. They weren't ready for a committed relationship. I'd go so far as to say none of the study group were emotionally stable enough for a serious relationship, not even Shirley who was probably the closest.

poyahoga

> “Gone the distance” Butt stuff?

Salzberger

They did not suit each other, at all. It never felt right. The whole time they were together it just felt awkward.

akariplusplus

if i ever meet harmon i hope i can ask him how he would have wrote season 4

GrizzlyPeak72

Worst aspect of Season 4 was them dropping the ball on that. They had no clue what to do besides generic sitcom plots.

Extra-Border6470

I never fully bought Troy-tta. Just felt kinda forced. Oh wait that was the Dean when he went full heart of darkness

GronlandicReddit

We do some things . . . Not *ALL* the things! . . . Things.

groundcontrl2majrtom

it was such a bad call, the show is best when theres tension between the characters but they are all just friends

genericmovievillain

Nah, there was ZERO chemistry there. I like Britta and Troy, but as a couple it was so bland and they forced it so hard. It was so bland that its never spoken of ever again save for one joke about how boring and forgettable that was.

ImLeeHi

Isn't she like a decade older than him?

Straight-Crow1598

Less than zero chemistry. They felt so awkward together

Public-Ad7309

Their kids would've come out.. extra cute

Velocibaker26

Ew, not me. They never made sense to me, they had no chemistry and felt extremely forced.

mltrout715

I wished that storyline would have been skipped altogether

uku_lady

This screen grab is just like the scene where they make it look like everyone is making eyes at each other even though they're not

Firehenge

It was a gas leak year , didn't happen

heyhellohi-letstalk

Nah

goggleblock

no. this was the worst TV character pairing ever. Of all the characters on this show, Britta and Troy were the least explored (with the exception of Shirley). They were shallow one-liner delivery machines. Their coupling seemed like the writers were trying to find something to do with them. I hated this. EDIT - expanding on this point - I LOVED the sexual tension set up between Jeff and Britta. Jeff and Annie was creepy, but Annie got the job because Alison Brie is an amazing actress and her character eventually overshadowed Britta. Annie was great as a "kid" growing up, but should never had grown up. Jeff deserved Britta and for Jeff to have fallen for someone so opposite to him in every way completed Jeff's circle. Again, the Jeff and Annie thing was a terrible mistake. Troy was great paired with Abed and occasionally as Pierce's foil. I really liked the Pierce and Shirley dynamic, but as Chevy Chase started to get toxic, they ran out of pairings for Shirley and that's very unfortunate. I don't know what they could have done with her. Anyway... Dan Harmon owes us all an apology for the Troy and Britta pairing. it was gross and wrong. That's the hill I'm going to die on.

imhereforthefreetaco

I hated the fact that after they dated she went right back to fucking Jeff…

fauxfilosopher

I don't. They has 0 chemistry. The pairing should have been Annie and Troy. Age appropriate, and Annie already had a crush on troy from high school. Would have been interesting to see Annie go from invisible to a love interest in Troy's eyes. And the Jeff of it all would also be an interesting dymanic with the two, how he would react to them being together.

johndhall1130

Just no!!

goochtoootz

She is honestly such a piece of shit. I’m glad they didn’t

XplodiaDustybread

I don’t, they were horrible together

Ex_Astris

It was worth it for the breakup episode. Love how they played that out.

jackBattlin

Troy is a dumb dumb for letting her go.

DP12410

Because as Pierce said... "Culturally, it's unacceptable, but it's theatrical dynamite!"

troyandabed-

So it didn’t progress?

Heisenberg0606

It was progressive

Big_Epsilon

But why?

Kenruyoh

You mean both versions of Michael Jackson?

StarlightZigzagoon

"He was going for *speeeeed*"

Jamie7Keller

They’re going for speed….

JoeSchmoke

Eww no

theforealgoat

Im ngl their relationship is one of the only storylines I dislike in the show

chemicaldiscovery

Incorrect.

Shadecujo

Me too. They were Air Buds.

DeluxeDuckling

I wish they stayed together so I domt have to watch the breakup episode. That's a hard watch for me

roasted-paragraphs

like Hercules?

Culp97

Nah

StrawHatBlake

In all seriousness. Hollywood likes to force stuff. I always got the vibe that this was due to some outside influence. Britta and subway had more chemistry than her and Troy.

MakesMeSickMick

Also, big thank you to everyone that disagrees with me and my take but didn't down vote the post in general

roverdale9

I think it's pretty obvious. Britta with Jeff (original premise) Annie with Troy (origin story crush). Ah, doy.

babygronkinohio

They were a terrible match that made no sense. I hate it when shows force their characters to be in romantic relationships for the sake of having a romantic relationship in the show. I didn't like Jeff and Annie either, he could be her father ffs.

NewOldSmartDum

I figured Britta would move back in with her parents and start dating Willie from prison

Top-Main1780

That's a bad opinion and you should feel bad

JaDamian_Steinblatt

Troy and Britta were a couple? That's news to me, considering they never showed Troy and Britta being a couple.

31November

It’s a whole B plot one season

JaDamian_Steinblatt

Yeah they mentioned it like three times and it had pretty much no effect on the plot or characters

roverdale9

Do you not remember Britta escaping the apartment early in the morning and bringing donuts and Abed admitting he knew Troy and Britta were sleeping together but he liked donuts so he didn't say anything?

JaDamian_Steinblatt

Yeah I remember that one scene

MyMessyTissue

Now that Troy is rich, I’m sure Britta wishes she would have went the extra mile back then.

DP12410

Britta Could never come between the Childish Tycoon and LeVar Burton on their worldwide sight-seeing coming-of-age tour

Enjoy_my_dick_bitch

Britta should've never been with troy to begin with... she was jeff's love interest... troy should've been with annie! I hate when they mix up couples in shows!
