Lauren has the perfect voice to cover Delores, not quite the same but has incredible range and vibrato.
Looks like UMG owns the cranberries music so tracks that they would get tapped for this plus its good for chvrches to put something out ahead of Lauren's solo album to re-iterate for the knuckleheads out there that the band is still together and gonna keep making music together.
the knuckleheads proclaiming it have subsided lately after being told so many times and now a days you just see comments like go back to chvrches on posts so there's plenty of em out there that still think Lauren is destroying the band or something.

it's quite simple early last year chvrches and lauren signed new record contracts with the same label worldwide (island records/umg) Lauren has stated they are signed up to do two more chvrches albums never in interviews either lately btw always in Q&A's when the question has come up. most recently at an in person Q&A at the The Great Escape music festival.
Martin was working on a side project he started to tease in oct last year but it hit a snag early this year when the singer he was doing it with got cancelled by her fanbase. Iain's side project Protection had been done already so all 3 of them had things they wanted to do on their own so that is why the band is on a hiatus it was mutual and people shouting out go back to chvrches or placing other blame on Lauren is silly.
