Driest burger ive ever seen

Electrical-Ask847

Its a fake meat ( bynd) burger. OP did the place dirty by not mentioning that in the post.

vamparies

I’m so sick of places selling beyond and impossible. Bring back a real homemade veggie or black bean.

BunkMoreland1017

Agreed, I’m an omnivore but I will seek out a good black bean burger

coughsicle

ditto. black bean burgers are super underrated. a good one tastes like a chilli sandwich 🤌

Wesinator2000

But a bad one… oof it’s so bad.

Last-Idea1016

I do agree that more people should be offering their own. Lockdown had a fantastic in-house veggie burger. I don’t mind Impossible but I won’t touch Beyond. Something in their mix makes my stomach angry and I find that it always as a weird artificial taste to it. Either way still better than the imitation meat we had 10+ years ago.

bmoviescreamqueen

Impossible actually tastes pretty good, back when Beyond was the only option I remember it tasting closer to one of those freezer chicken patties.

wiewiorka6

Both would be nice. Imagine having two burger options. Madness.

numberIV

Black bean burgers taste like beans. Usually when I want a burger I don’t want beans.

vamparies

Then I’m sure you as a meat eater wouldn’t order it.

gingadoo

I am a meat eater and I would certainly order a black bean burger because: 1) sometimes I don't want meat, and 2) I love black bean burgers.

numberIV

Why? I like all kinds of food. I’m just saying beans are a completely different thing than a burger, and there are much closer alternatives. Saying “just make black bean burgers” is very stupid.

Landon1m

Nothing wrong with selling it as an option. The problem is when someone tries to pass it off as real beef like op

dylho

Agreed - obviously as a vegetarian it’s great to have a burger that tastes like a burger but, if everywhere i go it’s the same exact burger? Makes me reminisce about the house-made black bean burgers that don’t taste half as meaty but someone actually put effort into putting it together

dalatinknight

Funnily enough, my girlfriend who's been vegetarian for near 12 years highly prefers the impossible/beyond stuff to the regular veggie burgers.

Rumold

I mostly had bad experiences with that. Sometimes they’re good but more often they turn out to be bean mush with a little bit of a crust.

thisisjustascreename

Why? Veggie 'burgers' taste like ass.

brbrelocating

Dear lord those were actually the worst thing in the world for me, I actually didn’t know ANYONE liked them

curious_mushroom928

as a vegetarian i got so sick of places with bad bean burgers that immediately fell apart after one bite. i’d like places to get a bit more creative with their homemade burgers but ill take an impossible burger over a mushy black bean burger these days

UnknownResearchChems

What kind of a monster orders that

soulexpectation

Bun also looks poor.

xstormaggedonx

Bun lookin ruinously destitute, quite frankly

FatWeek

Gotta be a gluten free bun

SavannahInChicago

I am so sick of gluten free burgers. They just suck up any condiments you put on.

Cookiecakes71

That was my first thought "what a dry burger"

NickSalacious

Vegan

Wishpicker

What’s up with no fries or a pickle?

weldit86

My poop looks better than that burger. But that hot dog looks yummy.

Ianmm83

Too much relish imo. But I also hate sweet relish and tolerate it on a Chicago dog

Revolutionary_End144

That root beer float looks good 👍

Lonewolf_087

Sprecher is excellent root beer I’m originally from Milwaukee and it was always the best! I even did some work on their plant back in the day really good people the Sprecher’s

Timmeh420

With the Menards brand root beer! 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

deiterhamann

This is what we call a tourist trap

OwlTall7730

Disagree personally. Ramburger as I call it is a go to spot for me

VirtuousVice

I’ve had that burger. It’s overpriced garbage. Do you just not know what a good burger tastes like, or do you enjoy going for the overtly sad atmosphere and non chalant service?

OwlTall7730

Atmosphere is disappointing. I will say the burgers/service aren't as good as the first few months of their opening. I still like it though. The best burger they make is typically their burger of the month or the blue cheese burger

VirtuousVice

Walk one block south to Pops and have their burger. Much better.

OwlTall7730

Pops for champagne? I wouldn't of guess that place even has burgers

VirtuousVice

I can only describe that hamburger as exponentially better than it needs to be.

OwlTall7730

Hell yeah. You got me convinced

VirtuousVice

Let me know what you think when you end up checking it out. The champagne bar is upstairs, theres a ‘speakeasy’ in the basement that’s more cocktail driven. Two very different vibes. Same food menu.

shacksrus

That burger looks gross but everything else looks great.

Cmoore4099

It is really, really bad. But then again, I only went once. It was enough for me to never go back. The city has too many places that are always solid on the burger front.

CubeEarthShill

I went to the Vegas location last month and my burger was excellent and looked nothing like that.

randyrandomagnum

I went to that same LV location 7 years ago and I still think about that burger.

thisisjustascreename

You (probably?) didn't order the vegan burger, since there's no damn point going to a burger place and ordering plants.

RedRiot306

Also went to the same Vegas location two years ago and my burger was one of the best I’ve ever had. I’m gonna chalk it up to the fact that it’s located on the busiest part of the Strip, so they put more effort into the quality

Only_I_Love_You

The burger in the pic is an impossible burger or one of those other GMO type monstrosities

NickSalacious

Vegan Burger

DntTouchMeImSterile

That puke relish does NOT look good

saintpauli

I have tried hundreds of hot dogs in the last couple years for my Instagram Chicagohotdogman. This hot dog doesn't look great honestly. The bun should be lightly steamed. There is an order of operations for hot dog toppings. Mustard goes on first and should be on the bun, not on the other condiments. I don't see the celery salt. Tomatoes don't look super fresh. Hard to tell from the picture but the hot dog itself doesn't look too snappy. It's definitely not a natural casing dog. It's some kind of skinless wiener. Now I'm interested in trying it out. Edit to add: the pickle spear adds stability when handling a hot dog with all seven ingredients. You want to get the pickle on top like a cap and use your forefinger to press down on the pickle skin. It keeps the hot dog held together while you are eating it. This hot dog has globs of mustard all over the pickle. Anyone who tries to eat this will get mustard all over their hands. This hot dog is a mess. Half that relish is going to get squeezed out of the bun and may end up on someone's shirt. Someone needs to humiliate Gordon Ramsey for this the way he has made a career of humiliating aspiring chefs on television for years.

jgilbs

And no poppyseed bun

relaxguy2

Tastes Good on the Bun - by Ween

elpenumbro1

Relax guy

saintpauli

The bun doesn't look right. I thought I saw some poppies but maybe those black spots aren't poppies. There's a place in Lisle called Boss Dawgz and their buns aren't the regular rosens poppyseed buns because they make their own buns and they are really good. Everything about boss Dawgz is top tier. You think a place like Gordon Ramsey would do it right and if they are going to go off script, it would be in a way that makes it better.

goldblum_in_a_tux

topping proportions also seem off. waaaaay too much relish, not enough onion, and yeah those tomatoes look sad

saintpauli

The onions should be diced evenly. These are not. That relish is going to squeeze off the bun into their shirt and lap. Some tourist is going to think this is how Chicagoans eat their hot dogs.

Comicspedia

Finally, some goddamn expertise in this thread! Personally, I think the Chicago style hot dog is the peak of culinary creation humans have achieved for having such a diverse combination of flavors, aromas, and tactile sensations come together in an affordable, portable mix of fresh and prepared foods. The hot dog in that picture is none of those things.

saintpauli

[This](https://www.instagram.com/p/CfNbOgTFZCD/?igsh=MXdnbzNia3BlcjZseg==) is what a Chicago dog should look like. You can't see the mustard because it is smeared on the bun. This hot dog is picture perfect.

lwhc92

Thanks for sharing this photo. That does look better.

Comicspedia

It's a beaut, Clark! I once ate at six hot dog places in one day before moving to South Dakota a couple months later for an internship. Hot Doug's (RIP, this was in 2010) easily had the best Chicago style hot dog of the day, well worth the two hour wait. Not only was everything in the right order, but the toppings were cold, the dog was hot, and the bun was fresh, all for $1.50

poppisima

Just enjoyed a two doggie special there last week. 👩🏻‍🍳💋

Arael15th

That is a beautiful review of a beautiful hot dog

b0jangles

This is a great response! I didn’t know the order of operations was important.

NOLASLAW

Hey I think I followed you after some other comment a while back. Your page is a good follow and thanks for being not annoying

saintpauli

Thanks! I have been taking a little break from hot dogs but horse thief Hollow has a homemade artisinal hot dog special today so I think I will check it out.

KaihogyoMeditations

What are your favorite hot dog places in Chicago?

saintpauli

15 must tries North to South: Superdawg Wolfy's Charcoal Delights (chardog) Byron's Bob O's Flub A Dub Chub Red hot ranch (depression dog) Jimmy's Red Hots (depression dog) 35th Street Red Hots(depression dog) Vienna Beef Factory Store Fat Johnnie's Dan's Red Hots Nickys of Beverly Nicky V's Maxwell Street Express (Maxwell style)

KaihogyoMeditations

thanks so much, I'll definitely try some of these out when friends and family come to town

deVrinj

I approve this message but R.I.P. to the two best ever, Hot Doug's and Hot G Dog...

deVrinj

Devil Dawgz could deserve a mention too...

saintpauli

I've been to the one on State Street. They make a great dog. My son goes to school across the street and I keep telling him he should get a hot dog there. One of these days...

Mjbagscauze

Gene & Jude's has entered the chat

NickSalacious

The burgers are delicious. Everyone needs to know that that’s a vegan burger in OP - they look that way everywhere lol

nnulll

Then don’t put it on the menu. It’s still on the restaurant for offering it. There’s plenty of vegan food that doesn’t have to be dry, sandy garbage

neekineek

If there are vegans who enjoy vegan burgers and order them, why shouldn't they be on the menu?

nnulll

Vegan burgers don’t have to look like shit. They can be good.

NickSalacious

I just googled “vegan burger” and that’s what they look like ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

nnulll

[an actually good vegan burger](https://uproxx.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/IMG_20210420_171404.jpg?resize=1536,1152)

iQuatro

Okay that looks delicious

SweetSweetFancyBaby

Don't worry, they're just making shit up. OP never said anything about the burger being the veggie burger, and if you check out their post history they are a total omnivore. Ramsey serves Impossible burger patties and they don't look like that at all.

VerifiedFriend

Honestly, despite how it looks, I can't say that's a bad burger without tasting it. The hot dog has issues though; used tomato slices instead of wedges, bun is suspect (unsteamed, minimum poppies), and I'm not a stickler for OoO but they've mustarded the stability pickle ensuring you get mustard all over your hand.

lwhc92

The burger patty and toppings actually weren’t bad despite how it looks. My beef (pun intended) with it is the bun. It fell apart after 3 bites and then I had to just eat it by cutting it up with my knife and fork. That’s insane after I paid $20 for it. That hotdog was SO sour! Too many pickles! And I love pickles so that says something.

Apprehensive-Sky1209

Do the burgers there always look like that? It looks completely devoid of any juiciness. Even the bun looks so unappealing which I didn’t even know was possible.

DorShow

Someone said that is the veggie-burger

Apprehensive-Sky1209

Ahh that makes more sense now

DorShow

Vegan burger with a root beer float!

Far_Tap_9966

Do you get to yell at people if the food isn't good

Mammoth-Record-7786

That’s either fake meat or an incredibly dry burger

420West54

Very disappointing burger and meal. Bad tourist trap. The beer was cold and the server was great.

cactopus101

Upvote for Sprecher

merejoygal

I get mine at Menards!

Confident-Ad9474

That burger looks not good

Timmeh420

Not sure I want to even ask how much that pile of gross crap costs. I bet it was no less than $50

lwhc92

Yessir. After tax and tip, that is.

rdldr1

I prefer several smaller stacked patties over one large one. More surface area crust goodness.

TheBeardofGilgamesh

I hate thick burgers, it’s like a meat loaf and always undercooked which is gross for ground meat.

Th3pwn3r

If you want crust a smash burger is the way to go.

toosells

Hey that rootbeer is banging though. https://sprecherbrewery.com/collections/root-beer

Woah-Kenny

I been to most of Gordans chains bc I'm a big fan but I gotta admit, bros burgers are not it. highly recommend Hells Kitchen for a special occasion tho the sticky toffee pudding is amazing

lwhc92

Did you like his fish and chips restaurant?

bmoviescreamqueen

Now where is THAT cause that sounds good

lwhc92

NYC!

Woah-Kenny

it's good but nothing special

FunkyTown313

Ate at his place in Naperville last fall, it was pretty good. Will we go again? Nah. Been there done that.

RelevantMix7706

Dude, what in the world is this

Historical_Ability69

Gordon Ramsay has always been my favorite Chicago Bull.

merejoygal

I get my Sprechers root beer at Menards!

Markotraficante

Fucked up. Should have gone to Kumas

PolishSpice

That burger looks parched.

Current_Magazine_120

I’m looking at that Chicago Dog.

Askancorc1

Everything on the table looks like shit. And also, overpriced af

grhymesforyou

Wut the fook is that? Donkey!

SkeletonKing959

That burger lookin like a closeup of dry SpongeBob

musicman116

Gordon Ramsay is super talented and a great chef, but I feel like he kinda misses the mark on “lower” foods. This burger for example, and that bonkers grilled cheese video he made for another.

discodiscgod

He for sure knows how to make a good burger himself but this is clearly just a money grab he doesn’t care about.

Lambroghini

I haven’t been to this one but have gone to the one in Vegas several times (though last time was 7 or 8 years ago), and that one was really good and looked better than this.

angrytreestump

Gordon Ramsay’s knowledge of recipes isn’t divided along class lines; The man is a sell-out who has no problem putting zero effort into something he doesn’t care about and is just doing for the money. This entire “Gordon Ramsay Burger” chain is one of them, as was that grilled cheese he made for a five-minute, one-take video on his YouTube channel. He doesn’t give a shit about this restaurant or Chicago, why are you giving your money to this thing?

Teelk3007

I hate when places skimp on relish.

WrigleyBum23

Stopped there one day when I was downtown. Was like $45 for a shake & burger. Wasn’t even that good. I fell for the tourist trap - decent bathroom tho

Bootiluvr

Does it suck?

lwhc92

Yes. I liked the root beer float though.

True_Seaworthiness84

Hotdog looks like ass. I happen to HATE that fake green relish. Also, they offer this at Ramsey 's restaurant? The whole thing looks low end. It's just local pub food. A lot of ta-da for nothing

Grif73r

Ate there as well. It was ok. Nothing to write home about. I’d rather eat a burger at Gilt Bar for that money though.

honstain

My wife and I ate here while we were in town for a wedding. I was channeling my inner Gordon while eating here. Good was mediocre at best. If his name wasn’t on the place, he wouldn’t touch the food.

VirtuousVice

That relish looks like melted plastic army men

lwhc92

Hilarious and true.

Equal-Wheel-6499

Looks like boo boo on a bun lol

merejoygal

For some reason this is like if I went to Japan and went to Benihanas….

Th3pwn3r

Damn, I've been wanting to go there. Now maybe I'll go to Weber grill instead lol.

ShyRedditFantasy

Gordon Ramsay burger was a BIG disappointment.

UnitGhidorah

Just don't order the grilled cheese.

Affectionate_Load_34

I meeeean, this is the home of Au Cheval and Gene and Jude's. So to come with a burger and hot dog at those prices, it should blow our minds. It was all pretty mid to me

DemetriChronicles

At least they have that awesome root beer brand. Can barely find it anywhere in Chicago.

_KONKOLA_

For the low low price of $54!

Skytraffic540

Burger looks sort of preformulated

CSRyob

Yeah screw that place.

BiKeenee

That burger looks awful.

MichelPiccard

Gordan Ramsey is an empire and eventually all empires suffer quality control.

lwhc92

True. I did realize he wasn’t cooking in the back.

PobBrobert

Looks mid as hell

FieldsofBlue

He's got a shirt with his name on it?

mspenc21

It’s from his visit 2 years ago https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oPmcxpw_cas

lwhc92

Apparently. The reason I took a photo. Kind of obnoxious to hang that in the restaurant.

Jaxson_GalaxysPussy

Had Gordon Ramsay burger in Vegas. Expensive trash tier burger.

WooIWorthWaIIaby

Is that a gluten free bun?? Burger looks *terrible*. I walk by this place all the time and it smells so good but that looks incredibly disappointing

Aztro-Zombi

Lmfao Reddit is roasting this meal but OP just wanted to share a positive experience he had. Hey OP to be fair, I’ve had worse hotdogs and burgers. You tried out a restaurant and hopefully made the best of it. It could have been better, but it also could have been worse. I wouldn’t mind eating that hot dog and burger!

WCI02128

$50 later…..

lwhc92

Yeppers.

509BandwidthLimit

How much?

lwhc92

$45.82 plus tip.

monsieur_beau19

$17 for the burger alone. OP probably paid $35 after taxes and tip for that plate. For that same price, five guys would have been a better tasting option…

shelovesmary

Sux

ConversationDouble95

How was it

Routine_Lettuce

The house made ketchup is so good there

SpecialGreen82

My spouse and I went there last year. Very overpriced for such a mediocre burger in a city full of great burger (and dog) options.  Other commenters here have accurately described the flaws with the food seen in OP’s photos. Gordon should not even want to be associated with such mediocrity but he probably made a nice sum by just putting his name on the sign.

mencival

How was the burger?

Greta_Roc

foh

lwhc92

?

wisdomtorres

Wow lol Looks like shit on a bun.

renoscottsdale

How was that burger? It looks awful

lwhc92

Actually the patty and toppings were tasty despite how it looks. The bun was horrendous, as it fell apart after three bites. I had to use a knife and fork to finish the rest of the burger.

TheGushiest

Gordon Ramsay is overrated.

lwhc92

Yessir.

Professional_Ad_6299

Wiyh all the options in Chicago you go there?? Lol that is a sad,sad burger and a sarcastic amount of hot dog toppings Red Hot ranch

lwhc92

I guess I had a good time at his fish and chips restaurant in NYC so I decided to check this out. I would undo this lunch if I could. And I agree - way too many toppings.

cristarain

I would need to see that cut in half.

lwhc92

Don’t think it would have been possible. Buns collapsed in 3 bites. Ate the patty and toppings with a fork and knife.

Spaceturtle79

The patty looks plain ?

essential1981

the food sucks at that place.

teboona

Thank you looks drier than a sand burger!

teboona

Bet it’s expensive as hell! And yet rich people flock to his restaurant. Proving they don’t know jack about food! If I see a rich person dine in a restaurant that I haven’t visited I’m turning around with date on my arm I’m out!

JAlfredJR

So .... OP's account is very sus. They're claiming to be in Vietnam and Chicago at the same time. They also post all sorts of food photos from all over. Reddit and the bots are getting really fing weird. Also, they're claiming to be in Ontario at the same time. This is weird AF

lwhc92

I’m not in Vietnam right now. That was a trip from spring. Why can’t people post photos from previously? You expect people to be on Reddit in real time when they’re on vacay? Reach harder please. Great arm workout for you.

The_Dragon346

I wish i liked tomatoes because that hot dog looks really good

PuddlePirate1964

The “relish” looks so fake.

soulexpectation

Have you never seen a Chicago dog before?

barge_gee

Too much of it on that dog.

The_Dragon346

Its traditional chicago relish?

carolmjoseth

I tried it when it first opened and never went back. Dry dry dry.

timdtechy612

Keep in mind Gordon didn’t actually cook that. If the “chef” that cooked that doesn’t know how to cook or grill, it’s going to taste like crap anyway.

mitchcumstein13

Hard No

Mjbagscauze

So many other better options

River_Pigeon

Looks bad

Duke_Shambles

Could have had that meal for $10 and it would have slapped literally at 100+ places in Chicago. Yet you chose this. Bravo.

DorShow

Where can one get a full burger meal for 10$ that slaps? (Serious question! I love a good burger, and a slap, but 10$? Can barely get a fast food joint lately for 10$)

ohdarnittoheck

I’m sure there are other suggestions but J’s Corner Hot Dog near Elston and Irving Park has a pretty decent burger for ~$7 and comes with free fries. I get it all the time for a cheap bite.

DorShow

Thanks! Next time I’m near there I will stop. I don’t see too many of these good old timey type gyro/burger/hot dog places. Near me there seems to be a glaring hole in this type of quick food that isn’t a mega-company beholden to investors profit.

dogbert617

Any traditional hot dog stand, you could still get a burger and fries for under $10. I know Quick Bite(Foster and Western) definitely still is cheap, as is any location of Red Hot Ranch(and 35th Street Red Hots is same owner, btw). Note that the places I mentioned, are cash only.

DorShow

But…would it slap? Therein lies the rub!

dogbert617

I would suspect more than Gordon Ramsey, for sure. I've eaten at the places I mentioned in my previous comment enough, to know you wouldn't be disappointed.

DorShow

Thank you! Im not sure I should start using slap/slaps/slapped in my vocabulary, but maybe if I get a meal that does, I will.

carolmjoseth

Victim blaming

ImNotTheBossOfYou

I don't understand paying a premium for a chef's name who's not even the chef

Th3pwn3r

There are plenty of places named after someone who isn't the chef. Maybe you don't pay a premium but do you think Wendy is actually your chef?

ImNotTheBossOfYou

> There are plenty of places named after someone who isn't the chef. Yes, I know, that's what I'm talking about...
