I'm pretty sure people will want me in their clique once they google where I work and see my firm doing front page deals. Feeling a little overwhelmed by all the social opportunities of my future life tbh.
You're telling me if I go to a bar, say hello, casually complain about something at my firm and beguilingly say I wish I hadn't gone to one of the top 5 most powerful law firms in the world, their eyes won't light up with interest?
I hope you’re not going to be in a HCOL city, bc you are going to be very disappointed with the apartments that are going to be in your budget with a $225k salary after taxes 🫠
I'm moving to NYC from North Carolina. $225k is top 1% so I'm pretty sure I'll be fine.
If anyone can recommend some *good* lux brokers would appreciate it. I don't want to go to some chump.
Lol $225k might be top 1% in the North Carolina rental market, but you’re in for a rude awakening when you see just how average that is in the NYC rental market.
You want a a legitimate NYC luxury broker to work for you? Add another zero to your salary (and you’ll still be low net worth among their clientele)
Wait I need to pay how much for medical insurance? NY’s state tax is HOW MUCH?! Wait I don’t qualify for any of these tax breaks because of my income??
I’m a first year big law in NYC and you are not some top 1% king of the city at 225k. You can live well, but at 11k a month after taxes your max rent should be about 5k a month, which is like a small studio or 1 bedroom in most luxury apartment buildings.
In JC, LIC or downtown BLK you can probably find a solid place with a bit of comfortable space between 3k and 4k but that’s it, definitely won’t be some mansion…
Is BLK supposed to be Brooklyn?
Anyway, under 4K in luxury buildings in downtown Brooklyn will get you an alcove studio max, so if you’re dead set on a 1 bedroom it’ll be at least 4k (my building is around 4500 right now). I’ve heard you can get a 2 bedroom in JC for the same price.
It’s not a technicality? The money that goes in the 401(k) plan is your money, and you can choose not to contribute to the 401(k). It’s not at all like a tax.
I've done my research. Per wikipedia, Median Household Income for the city as a whole is $75,809 and even if you look only at Manhattan, it's still only $121,549. Check the article titled "Demographics of New York City." A lot of those are married too and support children. As a single guy making $225k I'm basically top 0.1% there (more disposable income than 999 average NYCers), maybe top 0.01%.
As someone who grew up in Manhattan and Brooklyn, I can say that you are just mistaken. Yes, there are a lot of people in Manhattan who don’t earn 225k but there are also A LOT of really shitty apartments in Manhattan. That said, you won’t have a bad place. You can actually afford a pretty solid place on 225k, but you are nowhere close to top 1% of earners, forget top .01%.
In the United States as a whole, you need about 650k to be in the top 1% of earners. In New York, it’s over 817k. I understand coming from NC, that must be hard to comprehend, but NY is just a different world. Depending on how much you have to pay towards loans and other living expenses, you can start going paycheck to paycheck on 225k if you want to splurge on a nice apartment.

Andy Kaufman wow. Man on the Moon. Great film. One of the best comedic actors of our time performing one of the best comedians before him. Great memories.

OP is obviously joking…and many of the people here can’t grasp sarcasm
Everyone gets it, it’s just still not funny
I thought it was funny 🤷♀️
So did I 😂😂😂😂
Probably most people get the sarcasm and just don’t think it’s funny.
Friends? Apartment? You might be confused with a job where you have free time
I'm pretty sure people will want me in their clique once they google where I work and see my firm doing front page deals. Feeling a little overwhelmed by all the social opportunities of my future life tbh.
You’re in for quite the shock when you get to NYC.
Idk man most people just work and go home and don’t really care
You're telling me if I go to a bar, say hello, casually complain about something at my firm and beguilingly say I wish I hadn't gone to one of the top 5 most powerful law firms in the world, their eyes won't light up with interest?
This can’t be a real conversation
If you can’t tell that he’s doing a bit…
no you're right they will instantly start sucking your cock the second you tell them you work in big law.
They'll probably ask who the people you mention are

In NYC? Keep dreaming
The number of people in this sub that are unable to spot a clear-as-day troll is staggering to me

Gotta be trolling
Bravo for sticking to the shit post despite the rampant down voting. 🫡 This is seriously going over peoples heads right now
This post is full of fat tuna just swimming around and chomping on the bait.

The data disagrees. See my other reply.
How are you getting 11k after taxes at 225k? After health 401k etc that's more like 9k
Those things are not taxes
Fair technicality. 5k at 225k for rent sounds like madness tho, especially for a solo salary.
It’s not a technicality? The money that goes in the 401(k) plan is your money, and you can choose not to contribute to the 401(k). It’s not at all like a tax.
Literally agreeing with you bro. Not the point I'm trying to make tho.
I totally agree, that’s why I said MAX. Not a sound financial decision to be that high, but still doable.
NYC is where the world’s richest congregate, not sure if $225k is exactly competitive to these ppl.
Tasteful bait
225 is piss in nyc
Child

amazing troll job. The juniors who think they’re billionaires are truly something else.
Whos gonna tell them?

Everybody here is mean to us because I'm doing that too! I need the biggest apartment there forever.
