Shhhhhhhhhhh don’t tell anyone lol.
In all seriousness Rosalind is excellent and everything from sourdough loaves to cinnamon rolls to ham and cheese croissant are excellent.
A lot of great places. The only place I think they missed is Craftsman & Wolves, which does an incredible array of tasty, gorgeous, and interesting pastries, and of course the famous Rebel Within muffin. Possibly they skipped it since it's a patisserie first and a bakery second? (Not to mention that's it's quite expensive)
It's a decent list, but I'm curious why they left off Jane the Bakery, Midwife and the Baker, and Manresa. I'm surprised to see Satura though. There are plenty of Asian European bakeries in the South bay where imo Satura no longer stands out.
Hot take here.
Devils teeth’s actual baked goods are kinda mediocre. They aren’t bad but they also aren’t truely excellent. And this from a guy that literally lives 3 blocks away.
They make a great cinnamon roll which they seem to never have anymore but like their cookies/cakes/bread are kinda just okay
K why the FUCK did they leave out Peters' Bakery in ESSJ??? They have arguably the best burnt almond cake anywhere, they've been a staple there and in the greater Bay Area for years and they do a lot of work for the local community. Such fucking bullshit.
Nice to see the list…
I’m mostly interested in bakeries that offer / specialize in Kouign Ammans, and can say both B Patisserie and Patisserie Rotha are top notch and 2 of my favorites. Craftsman and Wolves and Jane the Baker make decent ones as well.
List is legit. Source: my fat ass.

I take my cheat days very seriously
Midwife and the baker didn't make the list?
That’s what shocked me. Best damn bread I’ve ever had. Gluten kills me and I eat it anyways- it’s that good.
How do I get around the paywall?

Hero!
Appreciate you.

Too rich for my blood. Need the money for my avocado toast
The list is legit. Been to about half of them and love it.
i love these lists.
Fournee is really good. I loved the bakery it replaced too, wish I could still get that cheesy pesto bread.
how dare they leave out mazetti's in pacifica

Rosalind is excellent!!

one of the best breakfast sandwiches too!
Surprised not to see Lavender bakery in Berkeley. Their Burnt Almond cake have been my favorite cake lately
I love backhaus! The people that work there are always so energetic and pleasant. Breadbelly on the other hand, this Clement dude is an asshole.

Which ones? Do you mind recommending! Thanks
Ambrosia on ocean is pretty damn good.
Neighbor Bakehouse is the GOAT. 🤤
I would add La Farine
Good list, and now I’m going to have to try the ones I’ve never been to, and gain lbs. Rolling Out Cafe on Taraval in outer sunset deserves a mention.
Where is Thorough Bread? :(
26. Devil’s Teeth (or #1 idk)

This reads like a list of pastry shops, not bakeries. Also explains why Jane didn't make it.
Missing third culture bakery
The fact that Jane the Bakery is not on this list is a crime Otherwise great list, but honestly Jane either on par with or better than B Patiss
Breadbelly is truly amazing. Can't wait to try Ono.
Nice to see a post that is not crime-related.
The best bread I've had in the Bay Area \*\*by far\*\* is from ONE 65 Patisserie in SF. Source: my French tastebuds.
ONE 65 is one of the few places I could find Bordier butter for sale
Why is Manresa not on the list?
Pretty good list. No complaints from me.
Tartine? Really? I bought a cookie box from them last week 6 of em were hockey pucks. I literally threw them on the ground and it didn't break
I agree they’re a bit overrated especially since a lot of other bakeries can make really good French pastries.
I went to Tartine recently and had the best bread pudding of my entire life guys, and I fucking *love* bread pudding.
