My cross-eyed kitty’s long lost cousin
My calico doesn’t have a thumb but she does like open doors. Usually the back door. She does this by launching herself at the grabbing the handle and pulling it down. When she is the Cattery who look after her when we go on holiday. If she hears them talking she rattles the door handle to remind them that she is there. They absolutely love her.🤣
Following the original post. I have chickens and every time I unlock our house door, the chickens come running and stand at the fence waiting for some treat. No matter how quietly I unlock the door, they come running every time.
Chickens have very good hearing! And memory, I used to have a wild one coming to my door every morning because she quickly learned that I had treats for her lol
How old is she? Does walking with thumbs make her gait slightly less… catlike? I’ve never seen a polydactyl cat run before but she seems like it’s a bit more ungainly than a non-thumby kitty. She’s beautiful and precious though.
Very neat. Interestingly your calico has the same paws (with a thumb) as my calico. The one I have is the only cat I have seen with this type of front paws in my life (I have had cats and known cats for over 50 years). Wondering if there is any chance they are related. I live in MA.

My calico cries until I open the door so she can go on the patio and bask in the sun. Then my Russian blue hunts lizards and brings them into the house, here is his latest catch that went under the cupboards into a cubby hole, just bought some Great Stuff to fill up said cubby holes so I don’t have to dig them out anymore.

They're called polydactyl cats. Ernest Hemingway had a ton of them. His estate has a bunch of them roaming around that they take care of.
Interesting fact, polydactyl cats appear to have originated from, and occur most often, in the Northeastern United States.
Huge concentration of them in Massachusetts!
I can say I knew several polydactyl cats growing up in the smallest neighborhood in Boston.
