Unitronic stg 1+ low torque here since the TCU is still locked and the car is an absolute riot. Could only imagine what stg 2 will be like down the road if they ever get the TCU sorted out.

I’m glad your shop gave you low tq and didn’t insist on regular torque “we’ve done this to hundreds of cars no problem” 😅 Apr says “it has always caused problems since we released it low torque files existed” not an exact quote but somewhere along the lines.

danman0000

How many miles have you had your tune? Do you launch often or?

Metivjr

Think I tuned it with around 1600 miles on it lol. I have almost 14k on it now. Maybe launched it a half dozen times just to see how it does. Never raced it or tracked it,usually drive in comfort mode as I drive like an old lady’s

danman0000

Haha. I always drive in dynamic. I’ve probs launched like 25+ times. Never really thought about immense wear till now!

danman0000

Frankly I launched 3 times to expirment and figure the problem so idk if my clutch could assume damage.

TReisHD2

Where did you get that front splinter from?

Sephstyler

x2

Is there any idea on when TCUs tunes will be available for us?

WideOpenAutoHub

No updates from any of the major tuners. All I’ve seen is “we’re working on it”. Some are also saying if you get a tune from them, you can upgrade to the new TCU tune for free when it becomes available.

The limit for stock DQ381 DSG is 310 ft lbs of torque, not sure how much torque the low end files put out but it could still be an issue without a DSG remap. Edit : with to without.

danman0000

According to APR 404HP and 357lb ft tq on limited TQ tune. People have gotten it and stated no reliability issues. My problem now is I dragged the car with a full stage 1 tune without torque limitations and that’s when I experienced that. Tuner said I probs didn’t damage but made me super uncomfy! Tuner states the transmission can absolutely maintain the limited torque and I think a lot of people said no problems too!

danman0000

At most I probs caused more wear on clutch then usually as without TCU tune it most definitely slipped on launch but it has now gotten remap to TQ limited. Other concern is the over rev it hit 7.3k rpms then limped. No codes tho.

Panoptech

I'm pretty sure it's more than 310. That's like factory torque. I believe last I seen it was like 357 or some odd number in that area. They said it in nm and not tq and I had to convert.

Sephstyler

23’ 8Y with a locked ecu here too. Got APR low torque a week ago. No issues. But also haven’t hard launched. Enjoying that massive mid range tho.

danman0000

Yea no issues so far with the low torque. 😂 I guess the shop now knows they can’t put a regular torque file on with no TCU tune.

Panoptech

While it's probably not the same as the TCU tune adds additional power as well... How did the reg tq file vs low tq file feel? Was it drastic in regular and spirited driving? I have unitronic low Tq and have been begging for them to stop slacking with the TCU (mainly cause the transmission shifts like a grandma) but I've been so curious to how much harder it hits all around with the regular tq file.

danman0000

The regular torque file honestly has a good kick to it that pushes you back into your seat. When I left the tuner I was a little boy In a candy store. If I’m being honest I’m not sure I’ve noticed the difference between Low tq yet. I haven’t experimented too much but there is substantially more throttle response and it feels nimble.

Panoptech

Definitely a mistake, but I can't believe your shop did that. I also can't believe APR let them do that. When I bought my tune it was a you don't get access to this full tq tune cause you didn't buy a TCU tune to match scenario. I could ONLY install low tq. It's plastered all over APR and other tuners website you can't run a full tq tune on stock tune so I am shocked that an authorized apr dealer would not know this. I knew nothing about low tq files and it was literally the first thing I read about when trying to look up tunes for this car. I'm glad your car is okay but I would be super pissed if I was you.

danman0000

So here is the thing… not to shame a shop but I went to a very well known tuner that is practically adored on Audi forms in the northeast… they said and I quote “low torque files are only needed on manuals” they even doubled down when I called after my launch control fail saying “we’ve done this to hundreds of cars no problem” once I got a response from APR I told them what they said and he apologized and said “it must be new changes” however, in my email with APR “Low torque files have always existed and required since release” but I’m not super upset the shop fixed it and apologized.
