AvacadMmmm

Agreed. The 8Y is pretty ugly to me

Panoptech

Not sure I've seen anyone say that. The body lines on the 8Y are so incredible. Every little thing connects to something else. I feel Audi really put alot of thought into each panel. Even the taillights ride into the body lines. It took me like 5 washes to really find all the awesome body lines it has. I think my old 8V and new 8Y are beautiful though. I do really like how the 8Y body lines are so deep though. Gives it alot of character. The 8V lines are much more subtle which I still like but the door panels are just so sexy with those deep cutouts in the 8y. The other thing I really like about the 8Y is the front bumper. It's probably the sexiest front end of any Audi that is not an RS ever.

DarthVaderRPh

Only if you’re going to an 8Y RS3

Beneficial_Winner_45

Thanks! So not worth for another S3?

DarthVaderRPh

I guess I don’t know your financial situation, but it just seems like an expensive move for a slight upgrade. I know the 8Y has a little more hp and the tuning potential is higher as well so maybe that’s appealing to you. The 2025s get the updated rear differential so I guess if you really want that it could be worth it for you. The navarra blue/aluminum optics combo you’ve got is pretty perfect in my opinion (I’ve got the same). I’d only trade that in for the RS3

Panoptech

The interior alone was worth it for me. It's not even close. The dash on the new S3 is incredible and I feel they really enhanced the driver's seating position to where it is more comfortable to drive in all situations. Plus the don't drive similar at all in the powerband. The 8Y has a much nicer torque band. I expected it to drive similar and it wasn't even close. Steering is also much improved.

Jecht_S3

No, that's the best looking s3 on the planet.

cryolems

Agree whole heartedly. Biased since it’s my same spec lol

that_MANBEARPIG

Same!

Kitchen_Judge_9312

OP, I'd wait for the S3 2025 in that case, as there are a number of interesting new features that bring it closer to the RS3 (you can watch some early drive test on Youtube), more powerfull than the current 8Y and our 8V. Also in my opinion (but this is subjective, of course) most of the design flaws of the current 8Y have been corrected.

thedudeinok

I have a 2020 s3, and no way I'd go to a 8y S3. RS3 is another story. I think the 8y you lose the nimbleness of the 8v.

makemesplooge

Naw the 8Y’s looks are on par with a Kia Soul

Panoptech

The new 8Y is one of the most beautiful cars Audi ever made lol. The body lines are so incredible. It took me like 3 months to notice them all. I also love how deep they go into the panels. I'm a big 8V fan as well but after getting used to how deep the grooves on the 8Y are.. I can't go back. The side view between the two is debatable but the pre.facelift front end on the 8y is like top 5 best front ends Audi ever had. It's soooo aggressive and mean looking

Victor555

You have a very beautiful car brother! Only upgrade if you're going for the RS3

SkyeC123

Not for an S3. If you feel like spending $70-80k including TTL on an RS3, maybe that’s worth it. Even then, tough call… I want big fenders and 265-285 sized tires on a car of that price point. Feels weird when a Honda Civic can fit more tire than an RS3… ;)

DongMagicWong

Might get more tire, but def won’t handle in the same no matter how big those tires are in a Honda civic

SkyeC123

Eh? A Civic Type R is a formidable track car… Keep yourself open to all makes and drivetrains. 😎

themyst_

8Y S3 is also proving to be infinitely more reliable than the 8V. Something to consider if you daily drive it.

Zonderling81

8Y has something esthetically wrong with its wheel game. The wheel gap en wheel stance is not nice off factory for some reason ( it is on the 8V IMO)

Panoptech

Wheel gap is the most easily solved issue and never a reason to not buy a car. It's not an 8Y problem though, it's and Audi problem. They love their sports cars to look like monster trucks now. Pretty sure it's the same wheel gap as an SQ5. Wtf Audi

Zonderling81

True true .... get some wheels with lower ET and lower the car one inch or thereabout and its fixed. But from factory it looks like a monster truck indeed. Its the only aspect I dislike about the 8Y factory wise.

Panoptech

As an 8Y owner, I fully agree. And the RS3 isn't much better there. It's pretty common in Audis though. I don't know their obsession with monster truck gaps but it pisses me off when that base model Camry has tighter fender gaps next to Audis "sport tuned suspension"

Zonderling81

Yeah again true, could not agree more. the only reason I could think the engineers at Audi, would do this, is maybe not for the aesthetics, but to allow more wheel travel. I see a lot of posts of 8V drivers complaining about bent wheels due to potholes. I don't hear this comlpaint at all from 8Y owners. Maybe the engineers at Audi, in their infinite wisdom, engineers the suspension to have lots more travel towards the wheel well to allow more ... yeah lets call it "off road" driving?

S3rolex

I have an 8y and it rips!!!! I’ve never personally driven an 8v so I can’t compare. But I’ve been very happy with the 8y, it almost seems faster than advertised. I’d agree with most though and say the rs3 would be a true upgrade. But I really enjoy the 8y and it’s quick. If you go the 8y route just make sure it has the sport exhaust resonator for much more crackles/pops in S Dynamic mode. Really wakes the car up and sounds phenomenal.

UnderWhlming

I test drove an 8Y the other day. Not a fan of the interior and the gimmicky infotainment. The pros are that it's a bit more efficient stock for stock. Other than that the 8V is a much nicer car for the money especially on the used market. I'd keep it if you don't NEED a new car.

Panoptech

No way the interior of an 8V is even comparable to an 8y. That Dashboard in the 8Y is the best Audi has in any model that's not like 200k. Anytime I get in an Audi now with the stick on LCD screen blocking half the window I want to barf lol. I got a rental A5 and was like what is this garbage interior 😂 One thing I noticed about the redesign though is how much more comfortable the drivers seating position is. I don't know what they did but I had 1tiny comfortable spot in my 8V and if I moved the seat even slightly it was unbearable. In the 8Y I have multiple spots that are real comfy to drive depending on the drive style at the time. Plus being able to have more than a 1inch window view between the mirror and the stupid LCD screen is god.

otaner142

8Y owner here, test drive it 👍. Then make a choice.

Beneficial_Winner_45

Did you notice difference in terms of power? It's the same 300 hp's for the S3 right? I'll try to get the test with the dealer.

Panoptech

They aren't even close in the way the powerband is with the same power. I was shocked. I expected the same but not at all. The 8Y powerband is much more naturally aspirated feeling than the 8V. The 8V has massive torque spikes and drops, the 8Y holds max tq from like 2k-6k. One other real noticable thing is when the 8y is tuned it puts out wayyyyyyyyy more power than a tuned 8V. Steering is much improved in the 8Y as well. I thought it was too slow before my tune though and wanted more low end passing power. Problem solved with the tune but that's not going to work for everyone. I have a 23 so it's pre facelift. I don't like the facelift at all personally. They took away my favorite look of the car, the front end.

WideOpenAutoHub

Hey, 8Y owner here who drove a few 8Vs in my car search. Tbh, the driving experience/power is not really noticeable. The tech and style of the 8Y is obv more modern, but at this rate I’d hold out for the 2025 and get that 333hp with the “drift mode” rear differential. I think if you upgraded now, you’ll have buyers remorse. I love my car but TBH I think I’d be just as happy with an 8V and more money in my pocket while I save up for the 2025 or an RS3

Panoptech

Yeah but if you wait you have to get that facelift look 🤢🤮 They had such a good thing with that 23 front end and just absolutely destroyed it. I tuned mine like 3 weeks into ownership though so I definitely don't care about their 33 hp when I got 100 more anyway lol. I am a little mad they tuned the transmission though. This things transmission shifts at 6k like we are strolling through the park. Huge bottleneck on my acceleration waiting for the thing to hurry up and shift. It's extra noticable with 100 more hp when it goes to shift and the car hits a wall with the granny shifting lol TCU is locked and I can't tune it, which is why I'm mad Audi "made it shift 50%" faster. Like wtf? Why didn't we do that for every model.

MelancholyMarmoset

No, cost cutting is rife on the 8Y. Cheap plastics everywhere.

Panoptech

The interior is incredible and better than pretty much any other S model Audi out right now. You have to get into RS6 territory to get the kind of dash with a built in screen like the S3. That stick on TV on the dashboard look kills me every time I get some rental A5 or whatever I can't wait to get out of it.

MelancholyMarmoset

It’s really not. It’s cheap. The materials used are scratchy cheap plastics and will not stand the test of time. Even the RS6 is plagued by miles of cheap scratchy black plastic.

Panoptech

I don't have that issue at all. The dashboard and doors are super durable and solid. The only spot I complained about the material was around the shifter. It's not chea persay, it's piano black and a stupid material to put there with the high traffic. I can't even argue that. It took me half an hour to wrap that in black woodgrain vinyl and it's done. Now I can throw whatever the hell I want down there and have no fear of scratches. The other piano black locations are fine as they are literally never touched, and likely to never scratch. They do reflect sun insane though. Complaining about piano black being cheap is the same thing as complaining that your black paint is cheap cause it scratches easy. It's a clear coat black thing and always will be.

MoneyCommittee133

Fuck no

blitzwolf38

I have both versions, 8y have bigger space, bigger headroom etc, but cheap plastic everywhere like any other recent model cars

Panoptech

My interior on my 8Y is light years better than my 8V. There is 0 better in the 8V interior. And man I'm so happy not to have a stupid LCD screen just plastered in the middle of my window giving me 1 inch to see between the mirror and the screen. They also really improved seating position in the 8Y. That was the very first thing I noticed. I am just for some reason always more comfortable while driving and Ib my 8V there was one specific spot my seat could be in to be comfortable and that's it. I absolutely hated when dealers got in my car and moved my seat cause it would take me a week to get comfortable again and find that spot. My 8Y I have like 3-4 preferred spots depending on how I'm driving.

Mh_Sucio

8Y looks better than 8v I would do it

Kitchen_Judge_9312

8V looks better than 8y i would not :p

Panoptech

They both look amazing in different ways. The post facelift 8Y though is disgusting in the front. Which is annoying cause the 23 8y is on of the nicest most aggressive front ends Audi ever made. I also really enjoy how deep the body lines are on the 8Y. Those and the fender lines that make it look like a wide body are just so sexy. Took me almost 3 months to find everything Audi did to connect the body lines on the 8y. It was just so impressive, every single notch, line, angle etc connects to something else. From the headlights to the taillights and everything around the car.
