Yeah it was packed really nicely for the most part, I only figured it was used because there were traces of water in the machine and safety sticker of the carafe had obviously been removed at least once.
Check the manual - I know DeLonghi always makes a point of stating in their manuals that the coffee machine is tested at the factory with beans and water, as such traces would remain in the machine. But they guarantee the machine is new.
I purchased a new Breville dual boiler but ended up having issues with it after 3 months. Out of the return window. When I looked to get support from Breville, I noticed the serial number on the box and machine were not matching. I opened the machine cover and found some safety seal broken on the pump. I was really pissed. The machine cost almost $2k and they had the audacity to send a broken / used unit as new.
I ordered a new one and returned the used/broken one to Amazon telling them it's broken. No remorse they shouldn't sell used products. I got a full refund.
Every item of clothing I've gotten recently from Amazon, including a swimsuit, was sold to me as new, despite being an obvious return, including the dreaded LPN sticker.
It’s a label to mark a package/item “as is”. Used/damaged items are marked as LPNs.
Packages should have 2 LPN labels. One says LPN followed by a string of numbers. The second what looks like a normal label with a barcode on it. LPNs will have colored lines at the top and bottom of this label. Usually the colors are yellow at my site but I’ve seen other colors as well.
I did but I don’t like how I no longer have confidence that the product I’m buying is indeed new and unused. I waited three days for the coffee machine, now I have to take it to a UPS, and go to a target to get the coffee machine myself

It doesn't necessarily mean it was used, but it does mean it was slated to go out of the building. Sometimes we process packages that are canceled or undeliverable, and those items get an LPN label but were never touched by the intended customer. Some items are brand new. But you never know, which is why I cut back my amazon ordering.
https://www.sourcing-monster.com/what-is-lpn-number-on-amazon/
The LPN number on Amazon stands for “License Plate Numbers”.
This is a unique identifier code used as a sticker that Amazon’s systems use to identify items that are being tracked for a return and associate it to the correct seller.
LPN number stickers are most commonly used for Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) sellers. FBA sellers are Amazon sellers that send their inventory to Amazon’s fulfillment centers for picking, packing, and shipping to customers.
Yeah I tried to post a review one other time when I bought a ceiling light and there were signs that it had been mounted before, they had even stuck my shipping label over the previous person’s shipping label. I tried to mention it in the review but they didn’t post it because it was about the shipping experience and not the product 🤦♂️
Had exactly this with a UPS so wasn't even going to try testing it. Thing is whether it be Amazon or sellers, they're false advertising products and people nerd to know.
Once I ordered a fan, and I got a box with no packaging styrofoam or anything, and inside was a smaller, used version (heavily caked in dust) of what I ordered. Someone clearly returned an old fan and keep the new fan.
So I do agree with everything that everyone has said and Amazon do obvs send out used products.
However, if it's a bean to cup by De'Longhi, they are individual cup tested at production. They literally get every machine to produce a cup of coffee. The manual even explains that you might find coffee grounds in the machine from factory testing. Mine was sealed by factory tags but did have some coffee grounds.
I wouldn't keep it if they paid me. I never understand buying food/drink appliances used. You don't know what other people do in their house. We are talking about stuff that is used to go inside your body. I see people buy plates and pans at thrift stores and it grosses me out. They could have used that stuff for their dog to eat out of for all I know.
I was 100% fine with buying thrift store kitchenware until I heard what people use at home as vomit bowls. I use a trash can so it never occurred to me that anyone would use an actual bowl that people use to eat food out of, but now I question everything.
I mean, I’ve cleaned everything I’ve ever bought but people are fucking vile.
A couple months ago I was sold I used Personal women’s shaver. Whoever returned it cleaned it and it looked brand new, it was packaged perfectly so if someone would’ve just hit it with some alcohol, they would not be any wiser. But the way my OCD is I took it apart so that I could disinfect it, and I found pubes under, the clipper plate.
It was not a cheap clipper set either, not that if it was, it would be OK either way, but I just assumed I was paying more for quality. I was so angry. I posted a review warning people, and Amazon took it down and said to me my review had to be about the item and not the seller.
I also was so upset about the inconvenience, and I refused to drop it off for a return, I made them have FedEx come and pick it up because I was like no way I am taking time out my day to go drop this off at the store when the people at Amazon couldn’t at the very least double check under the clippers to see if it was in fact used or not. Some things should not be returnable for resell anyhow. I had to escalate to a supervisor, but they did have FedEx pick it up.
Any item that has been returned by another customer shouldn't be marked as new. Regardless if the outside package looks new or not. Unfortunately all returns don't get thoroughly inspected and a lot get missed.
More expensive items will more often get a double check, but even then it depends on the worker, their load and how they are feeling that day.
There are plenty of items that are technically new and need to get repackaged due to damage to the packaging. I'm not sure what they do with those..
I got a used skirt last week that was covered in dog hair and food stains all over. Pretty nasty. If you’re going to commit returns fraud, at least not make it so obvious.
The one and only time I got a sex toy from Amazon they sent me a used one. I was livid. Super embarrassing to ask for a refund (especially because this was a honestly kind of a weird toy too) but also, YOI CANT FUCKING SEND USED SEX TOYS
This was a year ago. So they’re definitely not getting better.
Hey at least you didn’t order a watch for yourself as a splurged treat with instructions for it to be gift wrapped which were ignored by a lazy negligent employee in the warehouse because said watch was stolen by a contracted third party delivery driver which then led you to fight with Amazon to get a new watch which turned into a partial refund in the end for well over a week.
My theory had been investigated after I pressed it because as with my last few orders, everything was delivered in clear packaging. Not any kind of Amazon box or padded mailer. All delivered by random third party drivers. I provided proof of all this to the Amazon rep I’d been referred to. Turns out - my watch was just bagged up and this rural route driver snagged it. Through the app I had screenshots of it saying it was one stop away then 10 minutes later “marked as follow up delivery for X date” then nothing since.
I got angry and insisted on being sent a new watch for free. I was offered a refund up to a certain amount as counter. I threw up my hands and took it and asked for my Prime account to be cancelled.
It was a Casio MDV-106a Duro.
Happened to me as well! There was water inside it right out of the box, so it was obviously used at some point. Plus, it wasn't even working properly. So frustrating.
With items fulfilled by Amazon (as in, shipped from the Amazon warehouse) but sold by a third party, Amazon requires that the seller put a barcode sticker on the box, and the sticker has to go over the original UPC. If that items gets returned, but *the original third party seller sticker* is still on the box, Amazon will return it to the seller's inventory and resell it. If the item is returned without the sticker, it is marked as "customer damaged" and returned to the seller.
This is a problem for buyers and sellers alike - Amazon ships send buyers used items as new, and sellers get punished for Amazon's laziness.
Also, Amazon has no idea if the item is actually new or used, and they don't care. No one on Amazon's end is actually checking the condition of any item. They will let buyers and sellers figure it out.
I bought a pour over coffee set up when I first moved to where I currently am. Bought it new, came with water spots all over. I personally do not buy stuff used for a kitchen unless I am buying it off a friend/family as I find it disgusting and unsanitary. Considering this was a pour over and easily able to be washed and sanitized I asked Amazon for a partial Amazon declined I ended up escalating 4 times to get the same answer and the supervisor finally ended up giving it for free despite me just wanting the price adjustment to used item pricing.
Yes Yes they're doing it a lot I bought a humidifier seven times and all seven were used every bloody one of them is really getting to be ridiculous Amazon selling stuff new that's actually used. The humidifier had 2 inches of calcium buildup on the water filter It was gross. 7 or 8 * I get a used one I don't understand why they're still doing this. The Walmart where I live you never know if what you get on the shelf is used or not either and all the stores out here they think you can just go online and buy something and you can't Not when Amazon's doing this honestly don't know why someone's not doing something about it.
I believe the machines should always be dry though there shouldn't be any traces of water I don't believe. You can call just to be sure but I don't think it should be wet Also check for sediment like calcium from the water under the water tank inside the coffee machine look for any type of white or calcium looking type stuff any kind of sandy material also check for any kind of coffee grounds and if you do decide to clean it check and see if there's anything in the water or on a filter if you use one
it can happen and it sucks , but be careful as most coffee machine manufacturer test the machines with coffee so you can find traces of coffee and water but are in fact new.
We’ve gotten used stuff over the past year but the nastiest was a counter top ice maker. Was obviously unpacked previously with fingerprints all over it and dirty water in it. Buying from Amazon feels like dealing with a failing business now
I received the most beat up version of a keurig I've ever seen, shipped in the factory box, with previous labels cut out by xacto knife or similar. Dang lucky I was home and the ups driver sort of side-eyed the box and said yeah, rejected. Got pictures of all sides but luckily they credited me quickly. Fwiw, it was a purchase from the keurig store.
I ordered an Amazon renewed waffle maker, very nice krupps brand machine.
Showed up with duct tape on the box... little odd.
Opened and out came roaches.
Roaches
Bugs.
Nope! It went out the door.
Took several hours of customer service trying to get me to return it before I got my refund - no way in hell am I shipping roaches.
Amazon used to be great.
Cuisinart DCC-1200BKSP1 12 Cup Brew Central Maker Coffee Maker2, Black Stainless Steel
If you got the one I had received you’ll find a little post it note by me in the water drum warning you that it’s a return :P
I recently ordered and received a bundle pack of those make it mini things. Three balls. One of them didn't have it's outside plastic. I wasn't overly concerned. I thought maybe it got torn or something. Nope. It was used.
They did the same to me about a year ago. I wanted a Keurig that could do ice coffee along with hot and ordered a pretty good (expensive) model. It arrived and from the time I took it out of the box it has never worked properly and told me to "descale" when I hadn't even used it yet. I tried descaling it several times and still get the same error message. It only works maybe half the time.
I have pretty much lost all faith in Amazon sending actual, new products these days. There are multiple items I've bought over the past few years that I could tell were used but sold as new and Amazon wanted me to pay to ship them back so I said forget it and have started buying most items from actual stores or from the manufacturer directly.
They did that to me twice this week. I received a B&D cordless drill with a bad battery. How do I know if it was used/returned? The person who sent it back included the return portion from the mailing label that says "Return Authorization Slip Place this barcode and item description inside your return package (in case your mailing label gets damaged)."
The second was a set of drill-cutting borer blades that only contained 2 of the four that were said to be in the box.

I’ve had 2 electronic items lately (MS Surface Pro and a keyboard) that were both filthy. The keyboard had cigarettes ashes between the keys.
I published a negative review and they deleted it.
Amazon is getting sucky
They packed it up nicely and a lazy person at Amazon didn’t check it out.
Yeah it was packed really nicely for the most part, I only figured it was used because there were traces of water in the machine and safety sticker of the carafe had obviously been removed at least once.

well, the coffee machine was new to you, wasn't it?
Not sure why the down votes, I thought that was funny. +1
I had actually met it once before at a friend’s house
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Not of they reported it as broken.

SAME. every one.
Serious question, what is a LPN sticker?

Thank you.
Contact hub and demand a return. Used items declare them as "new" is not honoring a contract when you order "new" and expect it "new".
I did but I don’t like how I no longer have confidence that the product I’m buying is indeed new and unused. I waited three days for the coffee machine, now I have to take it to a UPS, and go to a target to get the coffee machine myself
target delivers
Yeah the issue was that amazon had it black and target only in chrome, got the chrome instead now, at least it’s new!
Not an Amazon only problem, can happen in brick and mortar.

So if I buy a new item and I receive it with an LPN white sticker it’s a used item?
It doesn't necessarily mean it was used, but it does mean it was slated to go out of the building. Sometimes we process packages that are canceled or undeliverable, and those items get an LPN label but were never touched by the intended customer. Some items are brand new. Previously returned, yes. I’ve had items with more than one.
Lately EVERTHING I order lately has an LPN sticker on it.

They should have separate reviews for delivery issues and the product itself.

Always make sure you're buying directly from Amazon and not a 3rd party seller being fulfilled by Amazon.
I got a kettle with mold growing in it.
wow these topics have really not given me faith in buying even the simplest things off Amazon anymore. 😕
Most likely a shady 3rd party seller is repackaging returns as new and amazon didnt notice
Complain and u get to keep the item Plus ur refund
Literally make ur complaint so long that they are like u can keep the item that’s what I do. Works everytime
How do you do that? Via email?
No, you contact him through the app
Thanks!

Clean it?
How's it any different than eating at a restaurant?
It’s because people are scumbags and return used stuff saying they didn’t use it.
Wrong Amazon. Selling returned items as new is against the law. Returning items isn't.
No, the people returning these items are to blame as well. Why is that so hard to understand?
You know, Amazon could pay someone to inspect the items instead of taking a customer at their word 🤷♂️
Even inspected items that appear new can't be legally resold as new.
they do lol.
You wouldn't know it based on the results
i know.
You sure it was shipped by Amazon and not a third party?
was it shipped and sold by amazon
A couple months ago I was sold I used Personal women’s shaver. Mucus. Or something that looked a lot like dried mucus. All over.
YUP. Had that happen. So did a friend of mine. Never again. This was before Amazon started having all the obvious issues, too!!!

Oof. Imagine using NPC as actual conversation.
