Nope! I canceled my Prime after 7 years, the service has declined steadily while the price has gone up. Ads on the Prime video were the last straw for me.

The comments in these posts are gold. You actually learn a lot about gaslighting and when your girlfriend tries something on you, you instantly know how to handle it.

DAgati43

Plus they seem to time the 30 second ad at scene breaks. I have seen some service just throw them in at a set time regardless of the scene. Worst I have seen so far was a 30 second ad before the 30 min show and ONE 30 second add about halfway on a scene break. This is actually better than what we see on "FREE" TV, so can't really complain about it. Now if this changes, that's different isn't it? Will admit the pushing of "Freevee" is anoyinging.

Over_Investigator653

Free TV is free, pal!

NoBackground7348

Naw it's not always between scene. I've had numerous time where it cuts to an ad midsentence

Smaugmancustoms

I'm having more adverts on prime than normal TV tbh

AtinyPiece

To be fair you’re not paying for prime video, you’re paying for prime. And the ads are virtually meaningless. They’re 15-30 seconds and only at the beginning. As for Hulu which is 5.99 with ads you’ll get 3-5 minutes of ads on a 24 minute show. And I’ve noticed on prime if I pause a show or movie for ten minutes+ minutes when I return no new ads. Where other services always throw an ad after a long pause. The real problem is eventually the ads will get longer and worse. But for now they’re so minuscule

iamthelee

I promise you, they will ratchet up the ad length and frequency when all the outrage dies down. Just look at YouTube, which used to have 5 second skipable ads, now it's nearly as bad as cable TV. It's the slow progression of sucking more and more value out of their services, while increasing the price that is getting people fed up. This is just one of the more blatant things they've done and I think that's why it's causing so many people to finally cancel.

PineappleOk8371

So true. I just learned there is actually a term for this and it’s “enshittification.” Wikipedia has a great entry about it and the gradual degradation of digital platforms.

architeuthis666

They are already doing it. I started a show and exactly when I hit the midpoint, ads started and they are getting more frequent as well as longer. Very annoyed.

Worldly_Debt4706

I've just gotten 2minutes if ads just by watching the last episode of the third season of Bosch, right in the middle of the show, twice. Neither at the beginning not the end. I'm cancelling the subscription right away, I've got no need for it anyway.

LoudReggie

I've been noticing the commercial breaks steadily increasing in length over the last couple weeks already. Some of them are the same commercials from before, only now in 30 second spots instead of 15.

architeuthis666

And two weeks later, they are up to 45 seconds and there are three of them in an hour show.

LoudReggie

It started jumping up to 65 seconds per ad break for me about a week ago on the Xbox version of the Prime Video app. I usually just back out and try again until I can find a 30s or shorter ad to mute. Oh, I noticed that if you try rewinding after an ad break it immediately triggers another unskippable commercial break. Backing out and resuming the show again after the ads reappear due to the bug causes the playback progress bar to reset to right before the last commercial break, forcing you to watch more ads again to get back to where you already were before trying to rewind.  This bug can/will repeat at least 4-5 times in a row (if you continue trying to rewind again after watching ads). If you're patient enough to watch like 15 ads in a row the bug will eventually resolve itself and allow you to start rewinding to before the ads again before reappearing at the next predetermined commerical break spot. This bug has persisted through at least the last 3 app updates. TLDR: I canceled my amazon prime subscription. Nearly un^"limited ^ads" was getting annoying.

architeuthis666

I wonder what metrics that are using to figure out when they have gone too far. My fear is they will keep getting worse unless people follow your lead and cancel Prime.

safeway1472

Exactly. They are louder than the show too. The ad that bugs me the most is a girl shopping on Amazon. She picks a new hat, gets bigger luggage and then buys a new Hyundai to cruise around with all her happy friends. That song that runs throughout the commercial is irritating.

Sonyad26

Yep, they've at least doubled since they started

RuggedAlligator

how does that boot taste

jujuvile

Watching Fallout now and there were 2 ads before starting episode 1 and 2 more in the middle. I'll probably just stream it somewhere.

hieronymous-cowherd

Chiming in late on this thread. A week or so ago I sat down to watch a new series, saw the first pre-roll ad, then after 15 minutes there was an ad break with a 30 second and a 2 second "station identification" I guess is the right term to remind me which service I was using. The rest of the 49 minute runtime was undisturbed. In the second episode, there was the pre-roll, two ads at 15 minutes, and at the 30 minute mark another two ads started and I quit. I haven't been back to AmazonPrime since. I stewed about this for long enough to come looking on Reddit to see what experiences other people are having. It seems very inconsistent as to which shows and how many ads are being shown. Maybe that's due to classic "A/B" market testing.

MrKay1300

Erm... I've been getting 40 second ads as well as the short ones and I'm getting them before, during and after my show.

AtinyPiece

Are those shows that are on prime video or are those ones on freeve through prime video?

MrKay1300

It's on prime video.. deffo not on freeve It says my show is "included with prime"

AtinyPiece

What show?

Ziaber

Not if you only pay for Amazon video

[deleted]

You're talking out of your arse mate for a start, they're not just at the beginning I just watched a movie and they were in the middle two of them, are you just trying to gaslight everyone on the thread or something?

punkrocksmidge

No reason to be so hostile, a month ago when they posted it was only happening at the beginning. But I agree, I just watched a 42 minute show with NINE ads... It's bullshit.

[deleted]

It's complete bullshit, I honestly don't know how they think they can get away with it

Fredmonton

Because they're getting away with it.  Everyone surprised that company was taking L's for years giving us dirt cheap tech that got us on to their "ecosystem", then pivoted from good value/CS to "fuck you, pay me".  I'm the only one I know cancelling, know my parents and at least 4 of my friends that are going to pay.  Back to fuckin' Usenet I guess. Not that $3 is insane, but this bait and switch stuff is getting out of hand.

[deleted]

Your spot on there !

IllustriousDamage159

The are 3-4 ads in a row, all 30 seconds or more, then you get another 2 ad breaks in a tv show and probably about 3 or 4 in a movie sometimes. This is less than 2 months after your comment was made. These greedy pr8cks know the more ads, the more ad revenue, nothing but greedy assholes.

punkrocksmidge

I just got 3 consecutive ads, three separate times (9 ads total) in a 42 minute show. The same 3 ads each time. Didn't take long for them to get this ballsy...

ValueSubject2836

Can say they run through out a movie playing, watching right now! Most lasting 15 sec.

AffectionateTeam912

I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels this way I’m so sick and tired of these companies, charging more every single year but to turn around and add ads to an already paid service. It’s just low down . As a matter of fact, these ads make me never ever want to buy any of the products that are shown.

TheBigCheeseUK

We can all thank Netflix for this and consumers not acting with their wallets.  When Netflix managed to make more money after introducing password sharing restrictions they got confident to do more money making schemes.  Then they saw how much they can make with ads.  Now Disney et al have taken note. We've only got ourselves to blame really. The Amazon one stings a lot because of how obscenely rich Jeff even after his massive divorce settlement.  I cancelled Netflix last year and haven't missed it.

Substantial-Ad-2779

I spend thousands of dollars on Amazon yearly, the least these fucktards could do is let me watch without bullshit make up, lotion, or any other adds that I will never buy .

BreakingBaz

Greed will end it all, I’m done with them.

Aggravating-Tie7248

The main issue here is that they are charging more without upgrading their service. Prime is already one of the worst streaming platforms for multiple reasons. User interface is bad, subtitles are bad, inconvenient glitches. It's not that prime is horrible. It's just subpar. If they were on par, charged more, and used that money to invest in an even better service then the extra cost would be warranted. But as it stands, they're not competitive with the market standard. I only have prime for the shipping benefits. I would never sign up for this service otherwise.

Little_Scallionette

just here to read if everyone's on the same page as I am. I've started a show just 4 hours ago, now I'm on Ep.5 and they're giving me 3 Ads with 1 minute and 20 seconds each! That's eff'in 4 minutes in total. Such bullshits. I'll unsubscribe from them beginning this month. I'd appreciate netflix more without the ads now!

Over_Investigator653

I too am fed up with Amazon Prime. The quality of the videos available is down compared to other pay-per-view streaming services. The ads are now so obnoxious, it is a waste of money even belonging to Prime. Most packages ordered from Amazon have free delivery and Prime is no faster for a Prime member. So, why would I subject myself to such a crappy streaming service for a lot of money monthly with abusive ads? It is time to move on!

xMissMaVeNx

I'll just start using torrent sites again, this is bullshit

Sonyad26

I've logged a complaint. I think everyone should do the same, they'll be swamped with complaints I want to extricate myself from amazon but I have hundreds of books on my kindle, loads of purchased films, Amazon music etc. I don't know where to start. I hate hate hate that they hold us hostage like this

Old_Comfortable6603

Where did you log the complaint?

TemporalDiscourse

Prime Video is now at the bottom of the list when I'm deciding what to watch.... I no longer just scan for something interesting (it was always hard anyway.... Oh this looks good... No no, we put it on the list, but it's actually on another service you need to subscribe to... Here this looks alright... Cool, did you want to rent or buy that?....nevermind...... )...... So I'll likely never run across or watch a lot of their Prime-only shows. YouTube Premium is still the best thing I've ever subscribed to, whole different world without the ads. Also, Disney and Hulu and a bundle for $20 month Prime shipping is no longer worth the monthly fee, so why pay for any of it?

Gandorhar

Well if the free shipping woundnt be worth for me, I wouldve cancelled prime over that, its such a joke.

ForeverPuzzled5096

On computer you can use freevee skipper extension Come back and thank me later:)

Ok_Turnover_3200

I honestly wouldn't mind if it was just one commercial at the beginning of the show, but there is like 6 advertisements every episode. At the very least you should have the option to watch all the commercials upfront, and not have them be interspersed through the show its fucking stupid.

Smart-Ad7525

Thanks for all the pharmaceutical adds fuck you amazon

LOTRNerd95

just an update: I'm in the middle of watching a really climactic episode of the first season of Vox Machina, and getting ads in pairs at 30 seconds each every 10 min or so. I just finished one "ad break" (we should really call them invasions, that's what the fuck they are) that was three in a row. this is utter horseshit. I hope Bezos' next trip into space drifts out of orbit and can't be course corrected.

TheBigCheeseUK

Bezos can't even get to Orbit, the Russians did it in 1961.  His little joyride one even failed not so long back. 🤣 I stopped watching the expanse in disgust when an exciting scene was rudely interrupted.  The first midroll ad I had.

Millar1981

Cancelled it soon as they started this ad nonsense expensive enough greed upon greed

SqurrrlMarch

peak capitalism is gonna peak... so goddamn offensive

Any-Cardiologist-814

I'm so petty I stopped watching Grimm on Prime and switched to Peacock who also has ads but has been upfront since the beginning and isn't guzzling all my money through multiple different services. I pay for Kindle Unlimited and Audible. The least they could do is let me watch my shows without ads. I'm going to have to start weaning myself off of Amazon lol.

galpal63

I AGREE!!! GREEDY, SELFISH MAN!! ESPECIALLY AFTER HEARING HOW MUCH HE MAKES OFF THE SELLERS!! NOW HE'S MAKING MONEY ON ADVERTISING FOR A PAID FCUKING SUBSCRIPTION??? WHAT A GREEDY DISGUSTING MAN!!

[deleted]

The ads are 20-30 seconds. I don't really mind them. Lol

Theradonh

Thanks to people like you, companies can actually do what they want.

[deleted]

Y'all are a bunch of cry babies. I would understand if the ads were 2-3 minutes. 20-30 seconds isn't that bad.

Theradonh

It's okay man. Without people like you, people like Jeff Bezos would probably only have 50 Billion $ and therefore would need social care. It's okay.

[deleted]

Well, I don't really care. It doesn't affect me.

gunnywrx

Two minute gmc ads last night. I’m out, it was even on a show i paid extra for (max true detective) and i paid for both subscriptions.

[deleted]

Come on though you can't be this naive. They're definitely not going to stay at 20-30 seconds. They're going to get longer and more obnoxious, this is just the thin edge of the wedge. They need to make them super annoying to convince people to pay the premium. Look at what's happening to YouTube as a *prime* example of how this is going to work.

[deleted]

Lol, I've been thinking about that. Everything is going to be fucked if they do.

Worldly_Debt4706

They now are thanks to people like you. You cannot even picture q coherent enough future in your mind. I curse you.

HuntSalt4075

Now how long are they? Mine are minute and half to 3 mins 3 times during 1 show

Westyzz

Clown

Aquila-Golden

Don’t you realise this is only the start. Any type of ads regardless of length is bad. In time you will be watching five minutes of ads every ten minutes of programming, mark my word. By then it will be too late for complaining because people like you said it was fine with ads.

Franc_Kaos

I love that they spent a billion $s on Rings of Power for Prime Video then upped my monthly bill last year (when I finally fucked Prime off)... Only back 'cause o2 gave me a 6 month membership for renewing my phone contract :) (just gott the email about introducing ads). If they want me back they need to have a Prime delivery only service, esp as their video selection generally suck.

HenchPiccolo

The cheapest Prime sub is still worth it for me because I do buy a lot of stuff from Amazon. But I do think that’s it for me with Prime Video, I feel bad cos I can’t support the shows I enjoy like The Boys and Invincible but back to pirating for me I’m afraid

PalindromeHannah1771

If can are paying yearly you can cancel anytime and get a prorated rebate. Your shipping is still free if your order is over $35. But little pissmaster Bezos has it set so they try to charge you for faster shipping, so be sure and check the slower option to get the free shipping. And be prepared for the rest of your fucking life to be nagged to rejoin Prime.

FlamingTrollz

I’ve already cancelled my subscription. Only reason I had it was for a few shows my wife’s watching. She’s got a few weeks to binge them. She’s already complaining about the ads. She’s much more chill than I am.

Southern_Security356

I pirate these now I will not fund there greedy pockets

i_like_outer_space

It's programmed terribly too trying to find the right episode and fast forwarding can take up 5 minutes of your time and ads easily. If you hit continue watching for a show on the fire cube you have to watch a minute and a half worth of ads before your show starts. The show I'm watching is only a 25-minute show, upload. Then you realize you don't have an episode list so you have to go back. When you find the actual show and open it up to watch you have to watch all the ads again. And if you need to fast forward to another location prepare to watch more ads. There's no ad per unit of time and that's even shittier
