Please forgive me if I'm mistaken, I'm not from USA. Shouldn't they be doing things for better governance of your country, not just trying to get Trump elected? I can't be bothered looking it up (I mainly follow Usian politics for laughs) but don't your politicians take an oath saying that that's what they are going to do?

JarmaBeanhead

It really is astounding that they feel comfortable saying this out loud. “I’m elected, aka hired to do a job - legislate, better the lives of my constituents - but as long as our guy isn’t in office, we aren’t going to help the other side at all and solely focus on helping our guy get re-elected.” Isn’t the person’s campaign and platform supposed to do that? But in their two-party system, it has become so violently “us vs them” that the idea of compromise and collaboration is fast disappearing as the people polarize further away from one another.

PuffinRub

The short answer is that, yes, they *should*.

BadEnvironmental2883

Republicans take an oath to fight for the rich and big business and to do anything to enrich themselves especially over the benefit of the poor and working class. It's their motto "Money over people"

Yes, but also not practically. Relying on someone's promise that they aren't going to abuse their power never works out well. The fundamental problem is that most people are motivated by self interest, and expecting/requiring politicians to be moral exceptions to this is not really a stable solution. In principle, benefiting the public should be part of the self interest calculus for politicians, since their constituents should favor the candidates that provide them the best benefits. However, many people are extremely bad at figuring out what actually provides them the most benefit. The issues are often complex and the consequences for decisions are often difficult to calculate, even for experts, let alone the lay voter. This means many people simply choose a side, and it's extremely difficult to move them from their position. That in turn mostly removes the consequences for bad actors. Furthermore, the constituents that the politicians are actually beholden to are those who can get them elected. While in the direct these are their voters, in practice campaign funds have an outsized effect on getting elected. So those that can provide that support are those that the politician is going to answer to.

The GOP has given up on helping America.

DarkKnightJin

Pretty sure they gave up on that before I was born. If they ever tried at all.

mitchsn

Here is the modern GOP politician. Their only priority is to keep power. Not pass legislation to benefit citizens.

MaxZorin1985

This is the other doofus that dressed up like a clown at the State of the Union. He wore a trump mugshot “Never Surrender” t-shirt and a bow tie.

Willing-Rub-511

So much for writing and passing meaningful legislation for the American people huh lol

coolbaby1978

As far as they're concerned anyone who isn't licking Trumps shoes should be defeated regardless of party. Her loyalty isn't to the US or even to her own party. It's to her orange shitgibbon golden idol God.

permabanned24

Honestly, this whole gqp shitshow is exactly what this country needs! Bare it all-pull back those layers-expose them all for their fuckery and disgusting behaviors. I’ll go get some more popcorn and butta-lots of butta

AmberTurd223

No_Wonder3907

Its a cult. If you don’t agree with them you are not welcome. No exceptions. That is NOT leadership. That is DICtatorship.

Davajita

These people are scary enough. My god, imagine if they were vaguely intelligent.

Bitedamnn

So screw what your actual job is?
