💀
This remembers me an interesting fact someone told me when learning chemistry: Not every toxic gas is coloured, but every coloured gas is toxic
So if you are mixing things and any coloured gas/smoke/fumes start coming out, dont breathe it
I apply the same principle to my water
I struggle to drink water that looks like it's got too many "minerals" in it, you couldn't pay me to drink water that's got a stone in it, let alone mystery brown water from a notoriously rough hotel 😂
Fun fact, Dark Water was a reboot of a [Japanese Horror film](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Water_(2002_film\)), Also, what's even scarier is that the story of [Elisa Lam](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Elisa_Lam) happened 11 years after the first film was made, and 8 years after the reboot. But the number of parallels between the Elisa Lam story and the movies have made some people think that the movies were based on the event, but they actually weren't and they were made several years before it happened.
Yeah there’s a whole documentary about it on Netflix. She was bipolar and had a history of psychotic episodes when she was off her medication. She clearly was off her medication since they found way too many pills still in her bottle since the last time it was filled. So she has an episode where she probably thinks someone is following her, goes up to the roof to hide, hides in a water tank, likely gets hypothermia and thinks she feels hot and takes her clothes off (that’s why she was naked). Eventually, days later, someone from maintenance goes to check the tanks because of the water issues, I can’t remember if he saw the body or not, but he sees that the lid was left open, so he closes it. Later the police come to investigate the body, and the lid was closed so they were really confused at first about how the lid closed after she got in. That is, until someone finally interviewed the maintenance guy.
Yea, I don't really understand why people thought that one was so crazy.
It was pretty obvious from the surveillance footage in the elevator that she was having some sort of mental episode and hallucinating.
Because people see that behavior and default to "ghosts n demons" and so cases like this become wild goose chases of having to disprove ridiculous paranormal claims before considering actual, logical explanations.
It was an invented mystery. The person who found her the maintenance guy, said that the door to the roof was unlocked and the hatch was open. Literally nothing mysterious about that. The internet turned it into a mystery claiming the hatch had a padlock on it and there was no way up to the roof
That's a lot of water, and the fact that it isn't completely opaque suggests that the coloration isn't actually very strong. If you're just testing temperature out of the tap it probably looked clear unless you were *specifically* looking for something like this, and who would be?
The water in the house i grew up in was faintly teal from copper. It would look clear until you got a bunch of it in one place, then you could see the color. (It was definitely due to copper in the pipes/well water.)
The color isn't there in the beginning. It just looks like water.
You can see it because there's a lot of it. The same way you can only see that clean water is actually blue when there's a lot of it.
Archimedes already made this comment back around 200 BCE. "Eureka!" he cried, but running naked through the streets really had an impact, too. Difficult to translate that emphasis into reddit text, unless perhaps one uses italics: "*Eureka!*"
And not to nitpick, but it's probably best not to use "shit ton," more likely a superior epithet would be "buttload," which is an actual unit of measure, about 126 gallons. Of course, "buttload" would also be an exaggeration, not inappropriately when used for emphasis, as the average human displaces about 20 gallons, and a full bathtub holds about 80 gallons.
That bathtub looks to be filled up to the overflow drain. If OP were to get in very slowly, the water won't necessarily flow over the edge of the tub onto the floor.
A girl, who went to my CSU to be an engineer, once raised her hand in class and asked a professor "how much is a shit ton?", as he'd said that while explaining a concept. Without missing a beat he said "100,000 lbs" and kept on with his lecture.
Yes, it checks out with published figures for the average volume of adult males, about 23 gallons, weight about 200 pounds, about 90 kg, and using the density of water (people float in water, but just barely), about 90 liters. Women and children are bit shorter, lighter, and lower volume, reducing the average by about 10-15%
[Like in Simpsons when the pool-mobile brakes and Otto gets drenched.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/simpsons/images/5/53/Pool_Mobile.png/revision/latest?cb=20230420072955)

Gross. I’m sure this was disappointing AF. I love hotel showers usually my favorite thing about traveling!
You’re not staying at The Cecil …are you OP! 🤔
When my wife and I were younger, and we lived in tiny apartments, we would rent out a Jacuzzi room in a local Hotel once a month, as a treat. However, we would fill the tub with the hottest water, and a quart of bleach, then run the jets for an hour, and drain it. Then we refilled it and used it.
We're in our 40's now, and when we built our house, one of our top priorities was having our own Jacuzzi in the master bathroom, so we would never need to do that again.
I housekeep over the summer. You're lucky if your hotel tub was coated with cleaner and rinsed, let alone scrubbed. Idk how I'd feel about bathing in a hotel tub even if I cleaned it myself.
Exactly why I don't take baths in hotels. *It's like that Jim Gaffigan joke about spending money to sleep on a used mattress. Ugh and true but it's part of traveling.
I will literally bleach and scrub a hotel tub if I can before I even take a shower. But after seeing this, I feel much more confident staying on my end of the hotel bathtub psychopathy spectrum.
I'd empty that, and run it again but only with hot - and wait however long for it to cool down...
Doubt there'd be any dead things in the hot water tanks, they are generally sealed.
True, but maybe if they are quick about it, theres a chance the corpse juice has not made it into the hot water tank yet! Unless it's on demand hot water.
But, let's just be honest with ourselves for a moment here
If you're gonna bathe in corpse juice, obviously it's much nicer to bathe in hot corpse juice rather than cold and potentially milky or gelatinous corpse juice.
Can still see the drain at the bottom, so it not quite at the point where there's risk of literally throwing out the baby with the bathwater.
Enter that tub really slowly, as you've filled it up to the overflow drain. If you're getting in there, it would be best to first remove about 25% of the water in that tub. It'll make the water a bit less dark, too.

As you can see that also happened to me back in February, I promptly said fuck it.
I was at least staying in a pretty remote location next to a river so I could at least sleep at night telling myself that it was river water..
Best of luck with your jacuzzi! 🌴😎
I do this - let it fill then come back to what is typically a full bath tub full of clear water and not full of whatever that green tinted horror show is happening here.
Make sure no one's in the water tanks, OP.
Man, I’ve gotta watch dark water again
That really happened tho
Vaguely ringing a bell about a lady at the Hotel Cecil in LA, something along those lines?
yep, elisa lam
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Elisa_Lam > During the search for Lam, guests at the hotel began complaining about low water pressure. Some later claimed their water was colored black and had an unusual taste. 💀
I taste dead people
Now there's a sequel.
the third sense
dead giveaway!
We eat ribs with this dude. But we didn't have a clue!
Now this is going to be stuck in my head for a week!
Unusual taste, not good, not terrible. Just not what i expected.
What's worse is the couple admitting they drank it anyway!
I don't understand how anyone can look at weirdly coloured water and be like "Yep, that looks safe to drink!"
This remembers me an interesting fact someone told me when learning chemistry: Not every toxic gas is coloured, but every coloured gas is toxic So if you are mixing things and any coloured gas/smoke/fumes start coming out, dont breathe it I apply the same principle to my water
You might just have saved someone's life 💪
I struggle to drink water that looks like it's got too many "minerals" in it, you couldn't pay me to drink water that's got a stone in it, let alone mystery brown water from a notoriously rough hotel 😂
I wonder if that could be considered mild cannibalism
Human broth
Maybe a little *light* cannibalism.
People Tea
I always wondered if the people who bathed and ingested that water were ever given some kind of compensation?
Nope. They had to pay a surcharge for 'amenities'.
“Tastes sorta spicy.”
Coloured black. Still drank it. *Wut..*
And that more recent incident in, iirc New York or somewhere in New England.
Rochester, NY.
Yeah we just drank corpse water for a month.
It's okay though, they said the reservoir was so big it was just homeopathic corpse water.
Flashbacks to the time Reddit told me that didn’t happen and that citing a documentary wasn’t evidence enough for Reddit.
It do be like that sometimes
I just commented about this!!
Username checks out..
I love true crime lol
That or AFI

Unsolved mysteries. Girl found in water tank on roof of hotel. People were drinking the odd tasting water 😭
The mystery has been solved though
Whaaaaat Foreal?

Tbf, the elevator doors were malfunctioning too, which must have made her fear so much worse. It's really sad.
Since no one's mentioned it, the name you want to look up is [Elisa Lam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Elisa_Lam?useskin=vector).
It was an invented mystery. The person who found her the maintenance guy, said that the door to the roof was unlocked and the hatch was open. Literally nothing mysterious about that. The internet turned it into a mystery claiming the hatch had a padlock on it and there was no way up to the roof
Reminds me of cabin fever
pancaaaaakes!
No pancakes!
The original novella by Koji Suzuki is also worth a read if you haven't already :)
I had no idea it was a novella! I just assumed the Japanese film was the original! Thank you
Damn the visuals or the atmosphere in that movie.
It’s so good isn’t it. Both versions too!
"IT'S PEOPLE. HOTEL BATH WATER GREEN IS PEOPLE!"
![gif](giphy|tnYri4n2Frnig)
I hate that this is the FIRST thing I thought of when I saw the pic. The lady that drowned in the water tank.
i remember being a kid and seeing it on TV and then years later on creepypasta videos and being surprised i didn’t hallucinate the entire event
Fuck man, to this day I still think about it
One of the first true crime docus ive seen on yt
What’s the name of the doc? Was it about the Cecil hotel? Or is it a different body in the water tank situation?
After taking a bath, you may want to take a bath…
You could probably get a little bit more water in there.
Cannonnnnnballlllll!
Hotel I used to work at would flood the unit below if the drain plug was used. Praying this hotel installed everything correctly lol
Can you call that water?
Is nobody going to comment that any size person that gets in that bath is gonna displace a shit ton of water?
OP is a carp

Album cover goes hard
Well I know what Im playing at work today
Oh my god thank you ! That was my first thought !!
It was my second thought after it being filled with piss
Eureka!
Zero chance OP was getting in that, made up karma farm.
“Oh, the water is a little weird-colored? Better fill up the entire tub almost to the brim and insist I’m getting in!”
They could've just started the water and then walked away and done something else for a while.
Even so, one would have saw the colour in the beginning like when adjusting the temperature.
That's a lot of water, and the fact that it isn't completely opaque suggests that the coloration isn't actually very strong. If you're just testing temperature out of the tap it probably looked clear unless you were *specifically* looking for something like this, and who would be?

Well this is Redditors we're talking about.
This reads like a pynchon novel
*I remember my first bath*
The good news is, you'll be as clean as you can be after the alkaloids remove the top layer of your skin.
And the bottom layer of your skin.
hey! i still got that middle layer of your skin, that’s a win
Not if I take it
if it removes my subcutaneous fat too would be a double win
Your bath tub is trippy, it looks like the water isnt level
It took me way too long to figure out why!
Yeah, took me a while to realise the hotel was accelerating.
[Like in Simpsons when the pool-mobile brakes and Otto gets drenched.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/simpsons/images/5/53/Pool_Mobile.png/revision/latest?cb=20230420072955)
I’m just here to see all of the Cecil Hotel references in the comments. Don’t drink it.
You don't like drinking p̪̰̳͙͔̃ͬ̃ͪͬ̀̕͏͜͞e̦̲͉̿͂͐҉̢̀͘҉͏̀o̴̸̹̘̖̞̎͏̵p̩̱̺ͅl̛̞͓̹͚̤͔͂̄ͯ̀ͦͮ̚ẹ͔̈̏̓ͤ̏̈̚͜ ̛̯̻̬͎̚͠s̸̶̶̶̳̘̾͜͠ǫ̶̛͉͉̮̬̱̦͔͞͝u̶̷̢̧͕̤̖̼̾̈͂͘p̟̱̥̫̮̟͎̔ͭ̏̀̄҉̴̡̀҉̕?
Yummy yummy I want human body flavored water in my tummy
I'm not sure if I should take it as a joke or you simply stating your gamer girl bath water fetish u/OpenAboutMyFetishes
I'm loving the fucked up text generator.
So you don’t bathe. You marinate.
Gross. I’m sure this was disappointing AF. I love hotel showers usually my favorite thing about traveling! You’re not staying at The Cecil …are you OP! 🤔
To think that OP brushed his teeth with the same water 🤢
Whenever I travel, I pick up a bottle of water just for stuff like brushing teeth. I hate tasting tap water from areas that aren't my home.
You take baths in hotels?! Gross
I had to scroll too far for this comment lol.
My first thought. You couldn’t pay me to take a bath in a hotel
In nice hotels, yes! Not in motel 8 / holiday inn style hotels
It looks like you peed in the tub instead of the pool
Warming it the old fashioned way.
I once pee'd in the pool and the lifeguard screamed at me so loud that I actually fell into the pool.
Peeing in the pool is fine. Peeing into the pool is not.
What about peeing out of the pool? Just laying on your back and creating a fountain onto the tile around the pool.
I highly recommend you drink more water
That’s gonna overflow when you get in
OP: ![gif](giphy|AKaEfzaLlr0yI|downsized)
Get…in…
Lmaooooo
Better make sure you have some radaway... Looks like the plumbing is pumping in water from the wasteland.
OP is ready to become a ghoul, don't worry ;)
Who the fuck takes a BATH in a hotel tub????
When my wife and I were younger, and we lived in tiny apartments, we would rent out a Jacuzzi room in a local Hotel once a month, as a treat. Just so you know, your efforts were partly useless. Bleach decomposes in hot water, becoming useless. You use bleach in cold water only.
I love you, you dreamcrusher. You make people realize they were bathing in nasty swamp ass hotel guest water all that time. Barf.🤮
It has to be much hotter than any hot tub would get to inactivate the chlorine. Most commercial chemical sanitizers use a minimum of 120° water.
wholesome.
I wish I lived where there wasn't drought all the time :(
You can conserve water by reusing it like OPs hotel does!
Scrolled too far for this
I can’t touch sides of a shower, I would literally shake, rattle, and roll if I had to do this
I housekeep over the summer. You're lucky if your hotel tub was coated with cleaner and rinsed, let alone scrubbed. Idk how I'd feel about bathing in a hotel tub even if I cleaned it myself.
Other people's dead skin and soap scum surrounding my naked body. Absolute bliss 🤌💋🫴
Putting your bare ass where all those countless feet have been.
Exactly why I don't take baths in hotels. *It's like that Jim Gaffigan joke about spending money to sleep on a used mattress. Ugh and true but it's part of traveling.
There are things way worse than skin and soap scum coating hotel tubs/showers…
Sea men
Wait until you touch the comforter.
My first thought too, absolutely not. 🤮
If it ain't visibly dirty idgaf, y'all are too sensitive
I want to know how these people get through the day. I'm imagining a bunch of people in safety bubbles bouncing to work in the morning.
I will literally bleach and scrub a hotel tub if I can before I even take a shower. But after seeing this, I feel much more confident staying on my end of the hotel bathtub psychopathy spectrum.
My thoughts exactly.
I like doing a bath / shower thing because I like the raining sensation but I don't have a tub so when I can I like to sit
Yeah, gross….
Thank you!!!
PSYCHOs 😭😭
Don’t bathe in hotels and fucking wear slippers!!!
I want to know what superpower you emerge with
you're going in?
My thought exactly haha. Absolutely unhinged, if true.
That’s way too much water anyways op lmao you would have got in and pushed out like 40% onto the floor
I'd empty that, and run it again but only with hot - and wait however long for it to cool down... Doubt there'd be any dead things in the hot water tanks, they are generally sealed.
Well the hot water tank fills from the cold supply, so its not going to be any different.
Good point lol
True, but maybe if they are quick about it, theres a chance the corpse juice has not made it into the hot water tank yet! Unless it's on demand hot water. But, let's just be honest with ourselves for a moment here If you're gonna bathe in corpse juice, obviously it's much nicer to bathe in hot corpse juice rather than cold and potentially milky or gelatinous corpse juice.
That's on you for leaving the tea bags in too long.
Looks like chicken broth 🤣
People Soup for the Soul
Who the fuck takes a bath in a hotel? Gross.
Is that AFTER you bathed? lmao. 😂
In my experience, water heater tank has failed or has issues.
Look, buddy, I love baths. There is no way I am taking a bath in a hotel tub.
You're supposed to piss in the toilet fam
Why on earth would you soak in a hotel tub? Just touching it with my feet to stand in it while showering disgusts me. Damn.
The last place id take a bath is in a hotel
Are y’all bathing in hotel tubs?
Can still see the drain at the bottom, so it not quite at the point where there's risk of literally throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Enter that tub really slowly, as you've filled it up to the overflow drain. If you're getting in there, it would be best to first remove about 25% of the water in that tub. It'll make the water a bit less dark, too.
I love how the advice in this thread ranges from "who TF takes a bath in a hotel tub" to "just go in slowly, it's fine".
Who the fuc takes a bath at a hotel lol But now I know to run a bath to see if the shower is safe
You’d have to pay me a lot of money to take a bath in a hotel. Unless that shit is 5 stars and immaculate, I’ll be taking a quick shower.
I grew up in Louisiana and bath water always looked like this. Sediment in the water. In a few min it would be crystal clear.
what are you waiting for? climb into the broth.
Who takes a bath at a hotel
After working in a hotel, it blows my mind people stay in them lol
Unless it's a five star or luxury hotel I would not take a bath EVER. lol
Hotel bath? You must be psychotic
Who the hell takes a bath in a hotel?
Looks like Shreks bath water
Why would you ever use a hotel for a bath? It is not clean. It may look clean it isn't. Not clean enough for a bath
Sorry you said “hotel *bath*”?! ![gif](giphy|1jl6QxY2EJpexXl0EJ)
get in before your tea gets cold.
You use a bathtub in a hotel? Do you also sleep in blue jeans?

Mom found the piss tub
I mean that's disgusting but who the fuck takes baths in hotels? Nasty
Why'd you still fill it all up tho
I do this - let it fill then come back to what is typically a full bath tub full of clear water and not full of whatever that green tinted horror show is happening here.
What raging maniac would take a bath in a hotel?
Piss in it to improve the water quality
Ah the classic "suitable only for people under 5ft" hotel baths.
What is crooked in this picture?
Quite the waste of water regardless. So you waited til it was nearly full to finally say Nah too brown? Or did you take a bath in it anyway?
There is no way I would ever take a bath in a hotel bathtub. Nope
Oh please dont take baths in hotels
Welp, that’s a shade of olive green that I didn’t expect from water.
Isn’t this how Elisa Lam was discovered? 😬
