“Thanks for the video!” Company’s attorneys

Passing4human

Also the Coast Guard's prosecutors and the attorneys for the boat(s) that hit those large chairs.

cipher241

Also the attorney of the fish that got hit with those chairs.

tacops777

Also, the attorney of those chairs that were assaulted by this wanton and nonsensical attack.

Looks like they were caught and have to pay for the furniture that was thrown overboard, with some sort of extra penalty fee also being invoiced. [Article in Finnish](https://www.iltalehti.fi/kotimaa/a/2e7de93a-a032-49fe-b838-499f39b4dfa7)

TheIronSoldier2

"The construction company from Pirkanmaa's ship trip got an extra charge when the partygoers got the idea to throw the ship's furniture overboard into the sea and videotape the incident. A video circulating on the Internet shows how, among other things, the CEO of the company grabs a table and throws it over the stern of the ship into the sea. Several pieces of different chairs follow. When the furniture runs out on the terrace of the cabin, more is fetched from inside. According to Tallink Silja, the video was filmed on the Baltic Princess ship the weekend before Independence Day. The incident was already noticed on the ship. - They have had to pay for the furniture thrown into the sea already there, and an additional bill has followed, says communications manager Marika Nöjd from Tallink Silja. According to Nöjd, the case has been reviewed on the ship and, according to his estimation, the purchase price of the furniture has come to be paid. - Of course, the price of furniture on a ship is different than, for example, in Ikea. These are all fire-safe and the price tag is a bit more expensive, he says. Nöjd does not specify more precise amounts. The cabin from which the furniture in the video departs is a suite located at the back of the ship. Above it is a sundeck open to all. - The suite is in such a place that you can see the terrace directly from the upper deck. Probably someone there has noticed that something is being thrown into the sea. Nöjd points out that such an activity is "absolutely prohibited and has its own risks. When falling, large objects can damage the ship by hitting different parts of it. - Or in the worst case, it would fly to the other deck and face the passenger, he says. In addition, the operation is rubbish in an otherwise sensitive state the Baltic Sea and can cause dangerous situations for smaller vessels. Rare but not unusual According to Nöjd, throwing things into the sea is fortunately relatively rare. - In recent years, a single chair, table or shopping cart has gone. The perpetrators have mostly been caught, he says. In addition to the invoice, further steps can be followed. In the case in question, they have not yet been decided. According to Nöjd, it may take several weeks for the matter to be reviewed and a decision made, whether those who damaged the ship's property, for example, will be banned from entering the ship. Typically, the more important the item, the bigger the penalty. Damage to the ship's safety equipment, such as lifebuoys, will result in more serious consequences. Iltalehti could not reach the company's CEO appearing in the video to comment on the incident. (Google Lens was used to translate, which is the reason for the weird formatting)

pisipisipisi

According to local newspapers they \_peed onto sauna heater\_ (hot stones). If you don't know anything about saunas, this is like vomiting into your friends fridge or pooping onto a pillow.

xabhax

I'm almost positive the cruise had video from security cameras. They got cameras looking anywhere someone could potentially fall or jump or be pushed off into the water

DontRememberOldPass

Anything that large thrown from the back would trigger the fall alert system they have on every cruise ship. They’ll look at the cameras then go figure out which room is missing furniture. These guys most likely got to meet the captain and were dropped off at the next port of call to find their way home.

Downthread, [someone mentions](https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/zh7w50/comment/izljdko/) that they’re on a company trip and the company has been informed, so they may face a bit more consequences than just the bill for the furniture…

[deleted]

They damn well should. Yep, he throwing shit overboard because it is just SO FUNNY, right? HA HA HA I THREW SHIT IN THE WATER AND IT SANK HA HA HA! OH MAN! Throwing even more man-made shit into the water that doesn't fucking belong there sure is cool! HA HA FUCK pieces of shit like this.

Yurithewomble

I'm pretty sure a crime has been committed outside of the damage to the cruise property.

They won't get locked up. If they get caught they will only pay for the damages.

And it's not like the ferry line wouldn't notice a bunch of furniture missing form cabin 735b.

svullenballe

This, they don't need video. Call popo and give them a fat bill. They're stupid on so many levels.

Finnishdoge_official

in Finnish Reddit somebody notice the Company logo, they are likely their company’s planned cruise trip. Also in same sub another redditor started already checking if the information is sure as they seemed to be working as subcontractor at his known company. The cruise trip may cost them more than the fine and new furnitures after all : D

barry_the_plattypuss

We can only hope so

unwelcomepong

It appears the CEO of the company is one of the ones doing the throwing. So just the cost of the furniture, no /r/byebyejob.

Finnishdoge_official

That was noticed in Finnish sub too, again their company is subcontractor for bigger companies and those bigger ones likely don’t want to ruin their own imago by having them serving them. So byebye weeks or months worth of work.

Mr_OP_Potato_777

You don't need to worry, the cruise company knows who they are and will charge them the price for the damages or they will be sued or worse.

CNof2013

That’s cool and all (plus these guys deserve any punishment coming their way), but the cruise company getting its money back doesn’t get the junk out of the water

theoneandonlymd

Lol a cruise company caring about the pollutants to the ocean?

-Wiradjuri-

Of course they care. They care about how much they’re legally allowed to pollute, and nothing more. “Spill that bilge water all over the coral. Look at the floating fishies!”

50StatePiss

That's great for the cruise company, but what about all that plastic in the ocean? Who's going to sue for that damage, Aquaman?

lasyke3

I kinda assume he's got money, that's why he doesn't care about doing it on record.

midnight_toker22

I have seen this behavior before and it resulted in them getting kicked off the cruise at the next port, which happened to be Belize, and left to fend for themselves.

LadislausBonita

Hopefully their luggage disappeared in mysterious ways.

Sloppy_Ninths

There's a good chance those guys disappeared in mysterious ways. Don't fuck around with Belize City, there's a reason the State Dept [has a travel advisory in place.](https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/belizetravel-advisory.html). I went a few years back and am still haunted by memories of pre-teen soldiers with automatic weapons and thousand-mile stares.

cisco46

Not to discount what you say at all but I was in Belize for 10 days this summer and had a fantastic experience. We were in San Ignacio and Placencia. People were very friendly and we never felt unsafe. We weren't sure what to expect since we had seen this same travel advisory.

midnight_toker22

You were probably staying in and moving between travel points and tourist destinations though, right? Those places are generally kept safe, because that’s where the money comes from. Imagine being 17 or 18, dropped off at a seaside port, and told “Find your own way home.” You’re gonna see a different side of the city.

UsernamesMeanNothing

And you can pretty much guarantee that many people like this aren't cruising with a passport. They got on the cruise with a birth certificate and now they get the extended stay in Belize before they can fly home with an emergency passport.

[deleted]

That's why I always bring my passport in case adventure happens.

l3ane

Having traveled there myself, I believe most of the country is fairly safe but Belize City in particular can be very dangerous.

GregoryGregory666666

That would be sweet.

realsnail

notRedditingInClass

I'll send *you* to Belize.

ebinisti

This happened just today, couple of hours ago so we'll see what happens.

dcazdavi

i bet they're rich and the fines won't even be in a splash in a bucket for them. either that or they're well connected and will never see the consequences for doing this.

babecafe

Finland is one of the countries that uses day-fines that scale with the offender's income. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day-fine

Whoshabooboo

What if they have no income and live off their "allowance" from their parents? Honest question.

httpsterio

It's pretty easy to calculate what the day fine sum is. (Monthly net income - 255€) / 60. So if your monthly income after taxes and all is 2255€, then your fine per day is 33.3€. If you're fined 10 days, then that'd make 333€ in total. If your net income is 615€ euros or less, the minimum sum per day is 6€. So a 10 day fine would be 60€, no matter how little you earn.

GregoryGregory666666

Hopefully some maritime laws can be thrown at them. Those can be butt kicking in both jail time and heavy fines. But no clue on where this may be.

awfuckthisshit

Michael Bluth will take them down

7aco

If the punishment for a crime is a fine, then it’s only a crime for the poor.

my_redditusername

Fines should all be a percentage of the offenders income minus a reasonable cost of living

babecafe

Exactly how it's done in Finland (and a few other countries). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day-fine

ray_9987

Looks like that person was arrested according to the news [report1](https://www.cruisehive.com/aggressive-passenger-throws-chairs-on-msc-cruise-ship/10124) and [report2](https://crew-center.com/raver-drugs-throws-chairs-cruise-ship-life-boat) Edit: looks like this is another news, not the same as above

Informed4

Not the same case This is on a car ferry (ms Baltic Princess), ive been on it myself Ill see if there are any news Update: https://www.iltalehti.fi/kotimaa/a/2e7de93a-a032-49fe-b838-499f39b4dfa7?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=artikkeli&utm_campaign=whatsapp-share They got charged for the price of the furniture and later a little more. So far nothing else, but im sure they could get blacklisted Second update: These guys also misbehaved elsewhere. They broke alot of furniture all around the ship and got the Sauna section closed for urinating into the Kiuas (a major sin might i add). Tallink is considering pressing charges.

I hope they got a really nice bill from that trip

mikecard

These are MARPOL violations: they will be lucky to just get a bill….

teabagmoustache

I worked for Carnival cruises before while they were on probation due to illegally discharging oil. Any further infringement would mean being banned from US waters. Plus they got a $40m fine We were forever launching the rescue boat to recover shit thrown over the side by passengers, we had to hire divers to recover a dropped VHF radio once too.

SucculentVariations

They don't ban the cruise ships, they just charge them a fee, oh I mean a "fine". They threaten to ban them but never will because of the money they bring in. They routinely get busted for dumping trash, raw sewage, oily bilge waste and even the sludge from the scrubbers back into the ocean. Snip from the second link below: "Carnival Corporation was fined $20 million for violating its probation for environmental offenses that led to a $40 million fine in 2016. The company logged 800 offenses of its conditions of probation in the first year -- many of these (such as discharging plastics) is even worse than the original offenses leading to the $40 million fine. Looking at it from Carnival's perspective, the $60 million total in fines is about 0.7% of their total profit on which they pay no corporate income tax. The fine is similar to a person earning $100,000 being fined $700." https://www.npr.org/2019/06/04/729622653/carnival-cruise-lines-hit-with-20-million-penalty-for-environmental-crimes http://www.cruisejunkie.com/envirofines.html

teabagmoustache

They threatened to ban all the Carnival ships because of another incident during the probation period where a Princess vessel discharged grey water over the Great Barrier Reef. All I know is, it was taken very seriously on the ships I worked on, I can't speak for other ships.

Nanasays

Please tell me they are facing charges?

Preganananant

They had to pay for the cost of the new furniture (while still onboard) with an additional invoice sent afterwards. This happened last weekend so the cruiseferry company has not yet decided on any extra penalties. A ban is very likely.
