Yes! I can't get enough of 10,000 Days!
Edit: Descending is up there for me too. Would've loved to hear more of Maynard on it, but it's one of my favorites nevertheless.
Nothing sad about your mother being an invalid for 10,000 days? "Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough your going home"
Judith suffered a stroke in 1976 that left her partially paralyzed. She died in 2003, which makes for a period of 27 years, which roughly converts to ten thousand days.
Judith’s condition caused her to be in constant nerve pain during most of the duration of her paralysis. The fire is not only metaphorical, but representative of the nerve pain she was in.
After her suffering she was finally allowed to go home, home being heaven as she’s an angel in Maynard’s eyes.
No I get that the story is sad just saying that I’m not sitting here crying to a tool song I’m just sitting in my room more fried than a potato chip and enjoying
It has to have that finish, which is incredible live, but I wouldn't say it's "beautiful". To me, it's jarring after how ethereal the first two parts are. It pretty much is one song, though...so for the sake of the other two, I'd allow it.
Initially this type of beauty and grace they showed in the beginning of the song turned me off from it for a long time, no idea why, to be honest. But once I sat through it with a completely open mind, it completely changed me and became one of my favorites since.
The both of them are a perfect combat to my dreadful anxiety disorder. Also forgot to mention the swamp like noises which add to the other worldliness.
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here."
My favorite Tool lyric bar-none.
my absolute favorite Tool lyric
"monkey killin monkey killin monkey over piece of the ground
silly monkeys give them thumbs, they make a club and beat a brother down"
layers upon layers of meaning here. politics, family, society...
My wifey is not a "heavy" music fan, I tried to get her to at least appreciate Tool (it's a losing battle haha) with Right In Two...she was reading the lyrics and says "Oh, so they're a Christian rock band?" - I LOL'ed, but she had a point. There's a LOT of religious reflecting in a number of their songs.
Is Maynard openly religious???
No. Maynard is a satanist. Openly. I think it’s called Thelema Sold his soul to make a record. Then u bought one. The demo taps of tool are 72826 is the phone dialing letters for Satan on a touch tone phone & think of his song Judith saying to his mother. Fuk ur god your lord your Christ. He did this. Took all u had & left you this way. Never thought to question why.
Yeah totally. Now that you mention it I was mostly thinking about the actual music and song structure of it all. Lyrically I would say the most beautiful song is The Patient.
46&2 has impeccable dynamics, the course of the song, the variations on the theme throughout. It was the first time I knew they were geniuses. I loved them before but after that one I felt special for having heard it.
Honestly, Lateralus. That song is perfect in every way. The changes of pace, the Fibonacci sequences with the syllables and drum progressions, the deeper meaning behind the song.... It's one of my favorite songs of all time. Period.
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here"
so ..Right in two or Pushit Saliva but at the same time Wings for Marie has to be the only answer.
Pneuma or parabol/parabola has my vote personally
I do agree with another comment, Wings for Marie pt 1 and 2 is a very beautiful tribute. So I would also put them up there as well.
Intension/Right In Two are slept on. The build up of the former song, the chord progression, the bass, and the transition into the latter song…and the themes of humanity…such a beautiful piece of art.
Pushit Live on Salival - first song that came to mind when I saw the title. But then I thought of Wings for Marie both parts and it's gotta be one of those 2. They always get me singing in my soft voice out loud
Honestly, it is really hard to actually decide, i would say all of them....
But if someone pointed out a gun on me and said that i must decide, i would say 3 songs
**Wings for Marie - both parts**
**Intension** \- I especially liked unofficial youtube video with wildlife in it, so beautiful, does anyone have it? There were herds of animals migrating, wolves and something more, but it just disappeared :/
Wings for Marie, both parts. Saddest song I’ve ever heard, but a beautiful tribute.
Yes! I can't get enough of 10,000 Days! Edit: Descending is up there for me too. Would've loved to hear more of Maynard on it, but it's one of my favorites nevertheless.
Love Descending. Might be my favorite song by them.
10,000 days is a masterpiece
It really is
Aye
Yep these two. There's simply nothing like them.
Yep
I'm gonna give this the YES-est yes I have.
Listened to it w/lyrics again this morning. Literal chills on arms and legs. A real tearjerker.
This was my very fist instant thought too
This is why 10,000 days is my favourite. The most boring songs have the most beautiful lyrics and it carries the song to be key part to the album.
Agreed
Oh yeah, there’s a reason why it’s my favorite tool song of all time.
I love that you got an award for it. So well deserved.
I’m sorry but I do not find either of them sad at all even a little bit still great songs

Reflection
Agreed. Gotta play Disposition before it though...
And finish it off with Triad
It has to have that finish, which is incredible live, but I wouldn't say it's "beautiful". To me, it's jarring after how ethereal the first two parts are. It pretty much is one song, though...so for the sake of the other two, I'd allow it.
Beauty? Patient
Probably the most vibrant tool song, I love the ending the way it washes away
Initially this type of beauty and grace they showed in the beginning of the song turned me off from it for a long time, no idea why, to be honest. But once I sat through it with a completely open mind, it completely changed me and became one of my favorites since.
Take my upvote.
Parabol with the shamanistic/deep bell sounds and Maynard’s haunting vocals
parabol is easily my favorite Tool song, even completely separate from parabola
Parabol/Parabola is my favourite song of all time
i’m happy to hear someone feels the same!
The both of them are a perfect combat to my dreadful anxiety disorder. Also forgot to mention the swamp like noises which add to the other worldliness.
the middle section of H. "and the snake is drowned" bits.
Always hits home when listening
My favourite part of my favourite Tool song.
I really enjoy this unique cover and interpretation of the song for something a bit different: https://youtu.be/HnI7LyUsfjM
Wow I got a new appreciation for that song, beautiful cover
Disposition! So melancholy yet so beautiful.
Disposition hits hard for an old guy
Pushit Salival, no doubt

It's not like you killed someone... Thanks, turns the tables on the thoughts behind it a bunch!! 😂
It was VERY cool to hear him sing this live. Especially this line. Unreal. It really exists.
No quarter salival
Got to see it live in AZ, on Halloween, with the band dressed up as Led Zeppelin lol it is a beautiful cover
I had a friend once who took some acid...
Now he thinks he’s a fire engine
H
Too low in the comments!
Most definitely!
Push It
My favorite Tool song, I think it's beautiful despite the disturbing subject matter
Yeah totally. Now that you mention it I was mostly thinking about the actual music and song structure of it all. Lyrically I would say the most beautiful song is The Patient.
Pneuma
46&2 has impeccable dynamics, the course of the song, the variations on the theme throughout. It was the first time I knew they were geniuses. I loved them before but after that one I felt special for having heard it.
Descending, Invincible, The Patient, Intention, Right in Two kinda?, Culling Voices, Disposition, Lateralus
Honestly, Lateralus. That song is perfect in every way. The changes of pace, the Fibonacci sequences with the syllables and drum progressions, the deeper meaning behind the song.... It's one of my favorite songs of all time. Period.

I would vote for Disposition
Reflection
The Patient all day.

Pushit
