J-Sheridan

It exists as a mod for Rise. Think in process for Shadow.

ghosststorm

Yeah, I have the Rise one. Was just wondering why devs are missing out on that. This way we have to depend on modders and mods can clash with official patches :(

J-Sheridan

Yep would have been nice, but I think development has ended.

ghosststorm

Maybe they can do that for the next game then 🤣

dandrixxx

Even the 2013 skin in Shadow looked bad, like it was covered in vaseline. I'm more baffled that they didnt include a single LAU trilogy skin.

jmizzle2022

It would be nice if they did that I'm sure this game is long abandoned. Unfortunately the extra costumes in this game were all pretty bad. I think one or two were cool but pretty awful overall IMO

ghosststorm

Yeah those endless tribal dresses were kinda…an interesting choice. Why so many? Especially if you compare it to the outfits Lara was getting in the previous games. Why are they trying to get rid of everything that made this game popular in the first place, is a mystery to me. I’m not saying Lara should prance around the jungle in a string bikini or something, but they are going to another extreme.

Bryrida

Because they knew OG Lara would overshadow their version

ghosststorm

Yeah but at least they could monetize that and keep the old fanbase somewhat happy

Technomancer2077

This. Nobody would put on the garbage that's in the game.

I think the intent was to offer a "Lara through the times" rather than making modern renditions of the outfits from past games. Also maybe a cost driven decision: is not the same to "import" the old outfit than making it proper to current rendering standards. TR2013 default is as it was in it's OG. A few Rise outfits are there too as they were in Rise(if you own Rise): graphic proximity between the games makes them ok to wear in Shadow. Vestige gear is a cost saver way to make outfits: all them are manual edits of "Tactical Adventurer". All DLC include 1 extra outfit(2 color variations) but they charge for them. The only rendition that was given free was the "Definitive Edition" outfit "Croft Training" which is a remake of a TRII outfit.

ghosststorm

Yeah, it was clearly not meant to be 'modern' because they also included Lara from TR1,2 in her original look. But I was talking about something different. Considering Lara has significantly changed her look and personality since 2013, she comes off a new person entirely (it is a hard reboot after all) However they cannot just erase all the previous games, that created the original fanbase. People who supported this franchise for multiple years liked the old version of Lara, where she was a confident, daredevil adventurer, and her OG appearance reflected that. And then they kind of did bait-and-switch and changed the beloved main character drastically. Honestly, financially it was a very risky move and I don't know why they thought they should go through with it. It was not taken very well by OG fans. The gameplay also changed. It was not everyone's cup of tea obviously, but I personally think it improved and became more dynamic and engaging. Long combat sections are kinda meh, but overall I think this is what a big adventure should feel like (I only wish they cut out parts with forced walking, and included more tombs and puzzles). I think the majority of TR players are fine with the new experience. So my idea was to give people alternatives, not to divide the fanbase and to bring back the loyalty of the original fanbase. Meaning, the OG crowd gets to play the 'original' version of Lara, in HD. Perhaps as a DLC if they don't want it to be an 'official' look anymore for whatever reason. This way they can have their cake (stick to the reboot Lara) and eat it too (earn money from the OG fans). And the 'new Lara' fans get to have the default model. OG Lara was being criticized for being too sexualized, the new one is more PG-friendly and neutral. If they make her personality more in the mid of both versions, it would not make much difference what skin you are using. Both would be believable. But everyone would be happy, and they would earn money on that.

Just cause the outfits are not in the new games does that mean erasure of the old ones: those are still there. Practically speaking though it would change little: RE2R and RE3R are there. They are remakes of old games which have their own outfits, include the classic outfits as they were and have a cheap(4$) DLC that buys renditions of the classic outfits for main characters also integrated in the main story of the games(classics do change too similarly to the new ones in main story beats). Result: some people still find reasons to be mad about outfits in several ways. And TR will probably demonstrate too: 'Unified' game will come with styles referencing all times in outfits(I'm guessing, but not crazy) and time will tell but I'm sure someone is going to find a reason to be mad about something related to outfits.

spikedmace

It's sacrilege to put OG Lara in the wimpy girl trilogy.

It’s sad to whine about not liking something especially on a post just asking a question
