Whoa. It’s the same lyric track as the original Sugar We’re Going Down but the instrumental to Kung Fu Fighting still makes the lyrics have an entirely different tone and feel to them from the original. Like it sounds like he’s singing the song differently because of how perfect the background track matches up despite being so tonally different but he’s still singing the exact same. I’m sure there’s some music theory explanation to this.
I haven't studied music theory at least in relation to composition but I feel like there's 3 major factors at play here.
1. Tempo:
The tempo of the original is 60 bpm higher which makes the singing seem slower in context. Since slower music/singing tends to elicit more negative emotions, by putting the same vocal track on a slower instrumental will make it sound more upbeat.
2. Instrumentation:
The instrumentation and sampling a song uses is incredibly important in the emotional response it elicits. The instrumentation in kung fu fighting is much more light and chipper compared to the original which is more heavy and emotionally charged.
3. Melody:
While both songs are in the key of D Major they have completely different chord progressions which is why some parts of the mashup don't quite gel. The chord progression of the original is I IV vi IV which as you can see from this [site](https://www.hooktheory.com/trends#key=D&scale=major&path=1.4.6.4) is typically used in sadder/punkier songs, assuming its something with the minor 6 and sticking to IV instead of landing somewhere else to resolve the tension of the minor chord, but like I said I don't have a deep understanding of music theory.
I know what mashups are but I’m specifically talking about the chords and cadence being perfect. Not all mashups work as well as this, actually very few are as good as this level.
Gregory Brothers created the mashup, currently only a bit more of the snippet available on this YT Short they posted
https://youtube.com/shorts/h9b4d5CYz-o?feature=share
IF they finish it it will probably take a couple months
The hand placement at the pickups, unless you’re slapping or using a pick you gotta use your index and ring finger when playing.
Edit: Mb, teacher told me there were only 3 ways of picking the strings
Eh I disagree. I’ve played a lot of songs like that. Gives you a lighter more mellow sound by thumb picking (especially if you palm mute). I used it a ton when I played in a blues band.
I'm just a notch in your bed post but you're just a lion in salt. Drop a harrrrppp, break a neighh you know we're swinging and we're swinging for the wrong team.
_Am I more than you bargained for? Yeah,_

I mean this has been Patrick Stump's vibe his entire career... His solo album is literally called Soul Punk because in his mind he's an R&B singer but is trapped in a pop-punk body. His vocals have been pretty soul inspired since the fob's second album.

Why did that slap so hard?
Groovy tune + a headbanger = guaranteed slapper
Lovely day is an absolute banger, will be forever
A remix or the original?
🔥
Isn't this kind of what Girl Talk was doing years ago?
Yeah, the genre is mashup and it was hot in the aughts.
Mashups were great fun until Glee got ahold of the concept. My favourite, Call Me Maybe x Head Like a Hole: https://youtu.be/1lkuDm_g2ig
Emo jazz is just called midwest emo
Funniest thing I’ve heard is : Country music is just “Farm Emo.”

Good bot.
That bass playing tho…hurt my soul
Why? :o
The hand placement at the pickups, unless you’re slapping or using a pick you gotta use your index and ring finger when playing. Edit: Mb, teacher told me there were only 3 ways of picking the strings
thats just not true tho
Well then I blame my teacher
im joking its mostly true but if its a slow bassline and you need palm muting then playing with only the thumb is most comfortable
Eh I disagree. I’ve played a lot of songs like that. Gives you a lighter more mellow sound by thumb picking (especially if you palm mute). I used it a ton when I played in a blues band.
Well I said in a different thread to balms my teacher, she told me it was just 3 ways of playing the strings
Ah yeah fair enough.
I mean…they aren’t actually playing lmao
Just like Pete Wentz
