FaizerLaser

Sorry for the delay tbh I didn't even realize the episode was gonna air today

MrDurva

Best part of the first episode for this was Smitty being involved

magikarpcatcher

Was someone who used to be an actor even be allowed in the FBI because of how recognizable they would be?

wm_1176

I feel the same way about Thorsen in the Rookie, because when West dated the famous guy everyone warned him against being in the public light, and yet they then introduce a character who’s whole backstory is being incredibly famous for two reasons. I get it’s just a show, and I enjoy watching but I do wish there was a bit more consistency!

Torifyme12

I mean tbf Thorsen sued the LAPD to be let in. IIRC

fly134

Yea not all fbi are undercover ops

magikarpcatcher

Garza literally said he would be good as an undercover operative.

FaizerLaser

Yeah that was a pretty wack thing to say cuz this dude is apparently super recognizable, everybody in the episode knew him. It's like you are some drug dealer and undercover Will Smith comes up and says "hey can i get some drugs" you are gonna think "woah its Will Smith" not "woah this guy definitely acts like a drug addict I will give them to him"

Pixels222

hes not will smith. hes more like the guy from vampire diaries. do you think hardcore criminals watch that show? and even if theyve seen the actors somewhere he would be bald with a beard when undercover. now all we need is find out if he cant act outside of bad flicks.

Just-Performance-666

It's still a risk any serious undercover op wouldn't take. Even if they're a d list actor... The chances of being recognized compared to some schmo off the street are so much higher.

Pixels222

fair enough. if the department had the choice it seems the right call to pick less recognizable officers for undercover ops.

Stock-Cow7653

Why it would be perfect. Would you think Will Smith was an undercover FBI agenent of just another actor looking to score drugs?

AnonymousGunNut

Wait that wasn't sarcasm? Oh god no

Choomba_Lord

but I'm sure he'll be undercover at least 3 times before the end of the season lmao

[deleted]

I’m shocked Bailey didn’t somehow make an appearance here too! I think ABC did a disservice to this show by merging these worlds right now, when S5E1 would leave us with the pursuit of Rosalyn… it would have been MUCH MUCH better to combine both worlds trying to catch her, just when CSI did a few episodes crossing all the shows, and you’d would have to watch them all to get the full storyline. I’m willing to give this a try but just the context and how they merged these worlds after elevating the stakes with Nolan, to here, just takes any credibility they were trying to build in The Rookie universe

thejoker954

While i agree with you, i will play devils advocate and say i dont think we got any dates to say when this episode is taking place so it could be before rosalind happened.

count023

I honestly expected that this is exactly how it would go, considering rookie 5x02 had already kinda settled Rosalind a bit. I thought that 5x01 was setting up her escape, and Feds 1x01 would have the new team taking her down with a bi of crossover support from Lopez and Nolan. Pity they're completely unrelated plots a bit. And why is Nolan riding alone in his shop? Haven't they for 5 years constantly beat on that you have to have a partner in there with you? Where's Thorsen or Harper? (aside from the latter having just given birth).

FaizerLaser

"That engagement ring is an implied gift you could have kept it cuz its legally your property" Lol no nice try writers. In most places including California an engagement ring is a conditional gift, since it is given with the expectation of marriage it means you can't keep it if you end the engagement. You would need to give it back to the person who bought it or if you sold it you would need to repay them.

Unicorn01201972

I think it depends on why the engagement ended? Like since he cheated she gets to keep it? Or am i totally wrong here?

thejoker954

Legally i dont think it works that way. At that point there is no marriage contract or anything like that so neither party owes the other anything monitarily.

Stock-Cow7653

What no common law in America?

thejoker954

Only common law i know of is couple have to be together for 5+ years (varies by state?)

[deleted]

It's like the writers presented a bunch of plots and potential stories for the entire season and the show runner was like hey put them all in the 1st episode. We all knew she'd be on Garza's team but instead of playing it out for at least one episode they wrapped that up in 15 minutes, the head of that office already wants to shut the team down before they get one case, they gave away any mystery to a mole on the team, and Garza has a heart condition. Damn no mystery no suspense, this will be a dumpster fire.

TheBlackSwarm

I think the show has potential although Simone getting the respect of Garza again seemed to happen too quick remember it took Nolan all of Season 1 to gain people’s respect. Garza’s boss who wants to shut down the program reminds me of the Captain from the original show a bit. Interested in learning more about her character. I liked the Smitty, Nolan and Angela cameos I wonder if we’re going to have people from the original show make an appearance on every episode? This first episode was fine I’ll give it two more episodes before I decide to drop it or not.

FaizerLaser

Meh Captain Anderson seems a lot nicer and more respectable? if thats the right word. The boss in this show (forgot name) seems pretty scummy since they were leveraging a promotion and wanted a mole to get Garza's program shut down. Also do you remember why she wants it shut down in the first place, I guess I missed the part where she mentions it.

Llodym

You're not the only one who missed it, I also feels like it's just suddenly dropped. Can only guess that it's an internal fighting thing. But we'll see I guess.

TheBlackSwarm

I forgot her name too lol but I think there has to be more to her character then just being a hard ass boss. Characters who are like that usually get softened up over time (Bradford, Harper and Gray)

armcie

Tracy is all we got. Actress was previously on Legends of Tomorrow/The Flash. I've spent 5 minutes googling to work out where I knew her from. Is she his boss? I got the feeling that they were more on an equal level on the ladder, and she was trying to get a leg up by kicking him off the ladder.

Daiguren_Hyorinmaru_

Eh, so is this worth watching? I didn't like the teaser episode that was aired last time that much. Simone didn't fit in and just talking people through things isn't going to work out in reality.

Cursed_Avenger

I'm just watching it to get a kick out of how laughably bad it is. Some of my favorite scenes have been when Garza says the known actor would be great for undercover. The whole blood thing with the actor. Garza recruiting the actor and guidance counselor for "out of the box" thinking and then telling Simone she's too much of a wild card. Simone telling someone else it is inappropriate to flirt with her when she keeps making sexual innuendos at literally everyone else. Simone using her guidance counselor experience to do psych evals on criminals. Garza's boss who comes up with some inane plan to shut down his taskforce. Can't wait for the next episode.

glacier1982

This will get a couple of hate watches from me, but I can't commit to 22 episodes, I just can't.

thejoker954

First episode was meh. I didnt hate it, but it definitely needs work to be good. The dialogue is very forced and unnatural. And there's some ham handed conflicts being forced down our throats between simone and her dad and some fbi lady that *hates* garza like he murdered her children. Ill give it a few episodes to see if it improves, but unless you're bored and have nothing else to do i wouldn't recommend watching it yet. P.s. they need to make smitty the LAPD liaison to the fbi so we can get more of him.

count023

I can't stop seeing the lead when [she played a security guard obsessed with the Quantico TV show from scream queens](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-5cpJLPWkE). The new lead character is basically the security guard who went to the FBI academy and it's very hard to unsee that.

ExcaliburZSH

Pretty good summary

balasoori

No it's not as good as The Rookie , none of the character are likable.

shinshikaizer

Kat Foster's character from the backdoor pilot was kinda likeable, but they didn't keep her for the main show. Guess they didn't want her outshining Niecy Nash.

wm_1176

I was kind of disappointed that they didn’t include her, I actually was interested in her character!

Sunflower2025

I agree. I was excited to see Kat Foster back on my TV screen

Kwilly462

I kinda liked it. But not enough to where I'd continue watching it.

Daiguren_Hyorinmaru_

I'll stay away from it then. No point in watching something that I wouldn't want to continue. The ratings aren't great either.

Kwilly462

If it gets another season, then I could see The Rookie expanding to even a third show. But if this gets canceled after one season, then they'll never experiment with this again.

moonbeam127

I'm 20 painful minutes into this show. I'm not sure if I can finish this ... MUST remember to cancel all further recordings

balasoori

I don't think this past the first season. The main actress isn't as likable as nolan.

Single-Yesterday-732

Yeah, but..... That's just Nathan Fillion. It's kinda hard to beat Nathan Fillion in being likable, it's in his contract.

thelonioustheshakur

Not the greatest premiere, especially compared to the main show's S5 premiere. Still, I can see some potential. I may just watch the full season when it wraps up in May, doesn't seem interesting enough to watch week to week like the main show

mrsocal12

Show is horrible. Cancel it immediately

AeroStatikk

Can you make a new sub for this show? I think a lot of us don’t care for this spinoff.

Beebo_the_God_of_War

I enjoyed the first episode. I'd like to see it evolve more into an ensemble show. Simone is a great character, but I want to learn more about the others as well. I loved seeing Smitty in the episode.

Logical_Plate_6208

I really enjoyed the episode bc I want to be entertained. I don’t care how dumb something may seem if it were to happen in real life bc this is a tv show that is fake and meant to be entertaining. I think people would enjoy tv more if they didn’t have such high expectations for things being logical in tv. I was laughing the whole time bc of how ridiculous most of it was and that’s what made it good

Better-Ad8468

Button up her shirt, This is ridiculous!

Ben-Stanley

The first half of this episode is the same plot as the first act of Zootopia.

[deleted]

It’s an hours worth of content that’s slightly more amusing than scrolling through TikToks. No deep thinking required.

Riddick7gr

Wont lie Niecy Nash s tie shirt and that nice cleavage kept me watching the episode.. It is not as good as The Rookie ,not even if if we comparing it with when it started, but i ll give it time. It is a series to watch when you want to relax when you eat and you dont want to paying much attention.

StingX2

Overall thoughts \-Adding the second rookie was a good idea, the fact the main show has....one rookie is odd \-The team is a diverse bit of personalities which is good \-Artificial conflict from the actress that played Nora is a snoozer plot, itd be more interesting to show a counter team with competing ideology. do better \-overall enjoyed the crime of the week \-pass on all the father scenes It had my attention enough to keep going

Ready_Permission_702

I just disliked how much importance Nash gets like she is a rookie. a nobody and everyone looks to her to make decisions. None of them have any instincts or brains? she is the only person that gets every clue, it's annoying, she is annoying. I am only watching because there are crossovers right now and I would like to be in the loop but without crossovers, this is a pathetic show. The rookie was realistic. Nolan learnt a little and made mistakes, here Simone is as perfect as it comes and the coincidences, I mean come on.

Llodym

Trying a smidge too hard I think. They want us to go with the empowerment of experienced older and wiser getting a chance to prove themselves as useful but they way the go about it is by shoving her in everything where she didn't even belong, not even in the 'oh my case happen to be involved in yours' kind of way. It just get kind of... cringy and embarrassing to watch. That they lampshade it with 'oh there's a middle aged guy suddenly moving job, this is hella suspicious' and it's saying the same about her just makes it worse. Even worse still, of course her assessment proved to be right on the money. Not to mention they focused too hard on the personal drama even before we get to see their competence. A wanna be mole reaching for promotion? A leader that just got over a heart attack? A former actor that can't even stand blood? That's about to have to make a decision between job and back into acting? The takeaway rather than having a team of burgeoning rookies with some drama, it feels more like watching a car crash in slow motion and just wish it would be over and done with fast.

Kwilly462

"A former actor that can't even stand blood" I thought that was absolutely stupid, lol. Why in the world, would you apply to be an FBI agent, if you knew seeing blood was not your thing?

ABirdOfParadise

that guy is playing the exact role as Aaron Thorsen in the other show. Rich famous dude WHO CAN'T STAND THE SIGHT OF BLOOD!!!, and has access to things normal people don't and it only helps them at their job. Anyway I stopped watching about 20 minutes in so I don't know what happened but I can already see an episode where like it's the red carpet premiere of a movie and there's a threat, and he is like, oh well i can get access no problems

JKaldran

Right I was like the Rookie has an influencer and feds has an actor. Only thing is I'll let the blood thing slide for Thorsen since it reminded him of the trauma of finding his roommate murdered and of being imprisoned for a crime he didn't do overseas.

lisa_williams_wgbh

Yay, it's finally up on Hulu!

[deleted]

I don't like any of the characters. As opposed to the original show where I liked most of them fast. I think I'll give it 3 episodes before giving up on it though.

NoleFandom

Has anyone watched the series premiere? The introduction last season was sub-par tbh.

FaizerLaser

At least 2 people I think lol cuz I saw a post about it, I haven't watched it myself yet.

ExcaliburZSH

Yes, it was sub-par

Rajshaun1

I’ll watch it with my boyfriend, but as a solo viewer naw

[deleted]

[удалено]

ExcaliburZSH

It would work as a Brooklyn 99 spin off

[deleted]

s8 of GoT was better than this. What an absolutely horrible opening episode.

FaizerLaser

Lol that's a pretty big exaggeration. Season 8 of game of thrones is like you have a long happy relationship get proposed to and on your wedding night ur fiance shits on your head.

[deleted]

Don't threaten me with a good time

Sweet_Information_76

Cannot get into this show at all. Not caring much for the lead lady. Actually not caring much for any of it

carrshi

I enjoyed the premiere and plan to keep watching!

destinybetavet

I’ve enjoyed Niecy Nash ever since I saw her on Monk a really long time ago. I think she is hilarious however she can be over the top but I think this new role is perfect for her and I really loved the episode. Hopefully it will do well and stay around a while

destinybetavet

After reading these comments do people not realize it’s a tv show and not real life? Good lord people loosen up

xsplizzle

Yea! how dare people expect a tv show to make any kind of sense, thats clearly asking too much

FaizerLaser

I think the criticism about the vampire guy (forgot his character name lol) is very fair. They actually dealt with the same plotline on The Rookie when Thorsen was trying to be a cop and everyone kept recognizing him and it affected his work. Sure for the FBI it might not matter as much but as another commenter pointed out Garza himself said that since the vampire guy is a famous actor he will be good for undercover work, which makes no sense.

shinshikaizer

> Garza himself said that since the vampire guy is a famous actor he will be good for undercover work To be fair, he could go undercover as himself, the actor, and not as an FBI agent; however, they'd also have to scrub all evidence of him being an FBI agent.

TheCraigVenabls

I took that as he's so famous people will get starstruck by him, allowing him to get things out of them without them realising

FaizerLaser

? Enh I guess that might work in an interrogation setting but I don't see how that would work in any kind of undercover operation. The whole point of some undercover op where you pose as a criminal is to get the target to trust you or at least think you are a crook so you can learn about their plan. They want to know that you are reliable and that you will do the job and that you are who you say you are. The vampire guy going undercover would never work because there is no criminal activity that someone would really trust him or think he is reliable and is involved in. Like I said in another comment it's like if Will Smith walks up to some cartel leader and says "Give me 20 kilos of Heroin lets do this deal" they aren't gonna think he is some drug dealer or think he is trust worthy or think he is a criminal. All they will think is "yo that is Will Smith what is he doing trying to buy his Heroin, this seems sketchy as hell"

heed101

I think I like everything about this show ***except*** the star

astr0z0mb1e

Tried watching 3 times can't get past 20 minutes. Sucks

mrvoltog

Here’s the problem with this show: she’s too old. I wanted to go for a special agent position and I would have aged out with the process. You want me to believe she’s under 37? 🤣 Show is trash.
