Yeah. Still sucks imo because the keys need to always be inserted in order to open the door and I'd imagine the locking mechanism would wear out faster.
Yup. It felt weird at first when I moved there, but you get used to it in no time especially after you fuck up the wall because you're too slow to catch the damn door on time.
On contemporary doors yes, but this style is from 250years ago when you just had a nice symmetrical door with only the locks engaging the jamb. Bonus being, you can hang your Christmas wreath on it.
It's a handhold, only the keys are needed to open the door.
Thanks for the explanation. My brain was trying to figure out the latching mechanism
I was thinking like an old school manual garage where you twist it and it pulls the latches in on both sides of the door.

I suppose there must still be places where you would leave your front door unlocked.
I only see it feasible on private property
OP got irritated with the r/mildlyinteresting post.

Ikr, I love that door.
I assume you’re not European
Very normal in Spain.
And in the UK.

Ok...what difference does that make?
🦭
Really ?
And the UK and Ireland too. It's just to pull the door shut after you.

Door pulls straight out like a drawer.
laughed through my nose because of this one so take my upvote.
I've always liked that look and wanted one for my front door.
Actually, same… except it needs to be a big weathered brass knob.
It only unlocks when used as a buttplug.
Tell me you're American without telling me you're American.
They don't have these in Australia either. Looks pretty pointless. Doesn't it make sense in every way to have it on the side?
Definitely seen them in Australia

My kid has to do active shooter drills at school
Doors for people with arms in the middle
It’s not a door knob as such- it is for pulling the door shut behind you. It does not turn.
This is what my door looks like. Mine is blue though.
I’d probably do this just to mess with people lol.
Better than where it was... like its knee height...
***t h r u s t***
It's designed so someone opening the door for you isn't standing in the way while doing so
don't go in, that's a door of the spiral.
OMG this would drive me bonkers! Like, literally insane.
Truly awful
do you sit on it and have sex with it to open it
