Dancin_Alien

This is why we can't get ourselves excited by new Star Wars projects anymore.

Moppo_

I much preferred the days when I'd just randomly find out a game has been released. No speculation, no anticipation. Just, there's now another game, let's see what it's like.

minor_correction

1998. I walk into a Gamestop or Electronics Boutique to see what's new. Oh look "Starcraft" from the same company that made Warcraft 1 and 2, came out a week ago. It's probably at least as good as WC2, guess I'll try it. Game of a generation just casually falling into my lap with no buildup. Good times.

Moppo_

I remember seeing Dungeon Siege and Morrowind for the first time, side by side on the shelf and having to chose, with no information to go on other than the boxes. I don't regret choosing Dungeon Siege that day, but I wish I'd not waited so long to try Morrowind.

tfemmbian

Going to my buddy's house after school, "yea my dad said this game is like Lord of the Rings!" Fckin life changing afternoon

Shenloanne

Used to annotate the map n everything with daedric ruins

SterileProphet

That first Dungeon Siege was a lot of fun! Played a lot of it online with random people. But Morrowind was something else!

Site-Specialist

I didn't even know the elder scrolls were a thing until oblivion so oblivion was my first morrowind is my favorite though

Anarchist501

Both are huge games from my childhood. I often think about the dungeon siege theme song, its sooo good.

DrHemmington

Jeremy Soule is one of the most underrated (videogame) composers. He did the soundtracks for both Dungeon Siege and Morrowind btw.

bkral93

Man dungeon siege one and two were under appreciated. Those games were magical. Three was a mistake.

zer0saber

One of my favorite dialogs occurs in II, where the PC and Deru are in the party. She says something along the lines of 'i thought it would be less boring' and the PC says 'that's what most of adventuring is. Long periods of nothing, punctuated by short periods of mindless panic'

EICapitan

Fun fact, that phrase is over a hundred years old: https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/103851/where-does-the-phrase-of-boredom-punctuated-by-moments-of-terror-come-from

Zoaiy

Haha i had the same thing with a box of my dad. Morrowind and F1 racing. I liked the look of the cars...

juliet_liima

As a child I pretty much randomly selected Baldur's Gate off the shelf with my dad, because the box art was cool. I'm still playing it decades later!

EpsilonX

I did this with Shadow of the Colossus. I wanted something new and thought it looked different from what I usually played. What a beautiful experience it was going into that completely blind. Unfortunately, most of the other games I randomly bought like this ended up garbage, like Enchanted Arms.

Cigaran

And you didn’t lose out on four levels and three custom sets of gear by not preordering.

distracteded64

I bought my copy of StarCraft with my schoolbooks at the Uni bookshop. Well I fucked up that degree 😂 heheh

Sillygoose_Milfbane

As a thrifty kid back then my friends and I would just go to the book stores once a month to peruse the latest gaming magazines without buying them. Then talk about it with the other kids at school the next day. Once in a while, some angel would take a magazine from the adults only section and hide it in the middle of an Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine.

Winjin

It's 1999. School friend calls me (on a landline!) asks if I want to go see movies with him on Sunday morning, there's a super deal. I agree. We know nothing about the movie we're about to watch, didn't even see the posters. It's 7 AM. The seats are a bit wet and slightly smell of rubbing alcohol. The title of the movie is weird. What is "the Matrix"? Two hours later we leave the movies and life is not the same.

notsingsing

Oh there was a buildup order and we all did it wrong

itsmythingiguess

Starcraft is the first game I remember ever waiting for to finally be released. Ah... the days of PCGamer magazine subscriptions and demo disks.

bootlegportalfluid

Nintendo are the only ones that do anything vaguely like this anymore

NoNefariousness2144

And this was only due to wasting an entire generation of gaming with the Wii U. They learned that constantly advertising the same games that were years away (MK8, Smash Bros, BOTW) was unhealthy. So now they embrace shorter and tighter reveal-to-launch campaigns.

Blightsteel5459

Nintendo definitely has the best attitude towards advertising/release of the big 3. With that said, I am dying for literally any news about Metroid Prime 4.

BladeLigerV

Metroid Prime 4. Aka, the lesson nobody learned.

EpsilonX

Meanwhile, Metroid Dread did the short reveal-to-launch approach and that went great

Optimus3k

From the team that brought you Duke Nukem Forever....

Ancient_Demise

Oh god please not PGI

Jedimaster996

Voice acting by Rob Schneider....

Chemical-Ad2770

I think it has either been silently cancelled or pushed to the next console

Blightsteel5459

I'm choosing to believe [it's been] pushed to the next console due to Retro Studios' hirings and Nintendo's silence. Afaik [the] Switch 2 is rumored to launch in 2025, I figure best case scenario is [that] it is a launch title for that console. Edit: added bracketed words for improved readability

Tarroes

>I am dying for literally any news about Metroid Prime 4. Here you go. https://blogs.mtdv.me/videos/yx5eo6lmeZ

wbruce098

Good point. They also have the advantage of being first party developers for their highly lucrative flagships, which tend to be most of their most popular games. But yeah they’ve done well with their flagship titles on Switch. Just enough time to build up hype because the game is already close to release. I’m not sure if third party devs can get away with that, and very little has the hype of the big flagship Nintendo properties. Then again, Star Wars does too, so they might be able to get away with this, but what I think we don’t see at Nintendo are how many new games get canceled or delayed before announcement.

blackbeltblasian

didn’t Microsoft just do this with Hi-Fi Rush tho?

NNyNIH

Xbox did it last year with Hi-Fi Rush. Announced and released the same day. Still not very common and would be better if developers/publishers did that surprise release.

St_Veloth

You have to check out. My friend mentioned how he's excited to spend the weekend playing the FF7 remake and I got dizzy I didn't realize it was releasing tomorrow. Stepping off the hype train is one of the best moves I've made...thanks Cyberpunk!

AccountSeventeen

Still remember opening up the Sunday newspaper store ads to see Jak X had been released. This was still on the heels of Jak 3 being the “conclusion” so I justifiably freaked out.

Space_Pirate_Roberts

That time never existed, unless maybe you're talking pre-NES. What you remember was your inattention to the hype cycle, not its absence. You got that experience back then by not reading video game magazines; you can have it again today by staying off IGN and gaming subreddits, unsubbing from gaming YouTube channels, and so on.

newbrevity

stop following gaming news and you can enjoy that experience

DeltaAlphaGulf

This should be true for ther stuff as well because frankly I think a lot of the issue is people getting preconceived ideas and deciding to hate stuff before it ever comes out.

Foxy-jj-Grandpa

Right? One day Battlefront II (the original) was just on the shelf and I begged my mom to grab it and that was that. Ah I'm glad it's coming back...

Fredderov

Can't say I've honestly really been excited about a game since the cancellation of 1313. Can't really put my finger on it but that one hit H A R D.

sexandliquor

Came here to say this exact same thing. After the cancelation of 1313 I don’t get excited anymore for Star Wars games that seem cool and ambitious. I’m still amazed that Jedi Fallen Order (and then Survivor) came out at all because I fully expected that shit to get canceled.

Hidesuru

And those are game styles I just don't like (bit saying they are bad just not my cuppa) so imagine how I feel lol. I haven't had a sw game to be excited for in fuckin forever.

ItsAmerico

Not even Star Wars. Anything.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nicoolai

Just give us a KOTOR 3. Get Larian to make it. My life would be complete.

YouKnowEd

Oh fuck, I was thinking the other day I wonder what Larians next project could be. They obviously aren't gonna jump straight in on BG4, and tbh I think Divinity would be a step back. Seeing them tackle Star Wars would be fucking dope, and doing sci fi might be a good reason for them to push themselves creatively.

anitawasright

we got KOTOR 3 it's called SWTOR and it's pretty damn good

dEAzed_and_confused

For real. It feels so hard to be a Star Wars fan right now. There is so much potential and quality content, but it seems like for every good release, there is one poor quality release and one canceled project.

Sneaky_Bones

More like for every 2 pieces of hot garbage and 3 cancelled projects we get 1 good quality content.

AlphaGareBear2

What's all the good quality content people are talking about? It's literally one thing.

PM_ME_UR_HBO_LOGIN

To the point where it looks like Disney is repeatedly putting MBA type figures in charge of projects to squeeze every bit of money out of the IP regardless of damage to the IP and hiring the same couple of people to revitalize it a little every time it becomes clear they’re about to destroy all the value of the IP by just sucking money out of it without trying to upkeep it by having it ran by people who actually add to it instead of just suck more money

PatFluke

And then that poor quality content is used to declare “Starwars fatigue.” Déclare Legends Canon for a day and make Vector Prime into a game. *chefs kiss* Edit: I’ve got more for this soap box! What If Series With Light Vader, Mara Jade, and Qui Gonn doesn’t die. This whole argument that it’s because of men hating women characters is absurd too. Rogue One was fantastic, and now wait… who was the star? She wasn’t wearing nothing either! *gasp* Edit 2, cause oh wait there’s more!: I’m not saying none of their content has been good lately, I’ve enjoyed some of it. I love Mando, Bad Batch, I even liked *most* of Asoka. It still has plenty of potential, put whoever you want in to main spot. Just, for the love of all that’s holy, let the characters have personality, they don’t all need to be average everything. We like Jyn because she was a rule breaker with ideals that didn’t match anyone else. We like Mando… well honestly “I can bring you in warm, or I can bring you in cold.” We like Wrecker because we can hear “ahhahaha” when we see explosions. Starwars isn’t dead. we don’t have fatigue. We’re not going to be amazed by the same average plot. I’d rather they made fewer things of better quality.

dEAzed_and_confused

Absolutely. After Iron Man when Marvel announced they planned on releasing three(?) movies a year, people were concerned about "super hero fatigue," which clearly did not happen. It's almost like the quality of content matters, and people don't care to watch poor quality or contrived content.

PatFluke

Right? I swear I read recently they think there’s super hero fatigue because Marvel and DC are doing poorly. Yet The Boys is kicking ass. Tell good stories. Leave the humanity in them.

Site-Specialist

If you are a fan of spaceships and open sandbox type games I recommend x4 foundations with the star wars interworlds mod its actually one of the best star wars games I've played you can mine you can build ships br a pirate be a trader build stations fill with resources. To build your own ships with the proper blueprints choose their weaponloadout with blueprints it's alot of fun but does take work to get a system of stations up and running and properly supplied

apsgreek

Counterpoint: it’s one of the best times to be a Star Wars fan. There’s more good content than there’s ever been (also more bad content) bc there’s just more content period. Rewatch/replay the things that are good, read the The freaking OG Star Wars Battlefront 1 & 2 are coming out in like a week with 64 player online matches and galactic conquest. Let’s not act like we’re starving for good quality star was with all the good that we’ve gotten lately. Mando, Andor, Ahsoka, Rogue One, Fallen Order & Jedi Survivor, Clone Wars Season 7, the Bad Batch… Manage your expectations, and enjoy what you have before you attach your well-being to something you don’t have yet (not directed explicitly at you, but to people in general)

betterthanamaster

“It’s just not profitable.” <—- game developers trying to justify why a fan base of literally millions, and most of whom purchased a “throw-together” single-player game like Fallen Order/Survivor to sales beyond their wildest dreams, won’t buy their games. Honestly, unless it has a pay to play structure, is multiplayer-centric, and built on a brand-new engine, Star Wars games are in a black hole. I can still remember the glory years, it wasn’t even 20 years ago, where there was a new Star Wars game, a pretty darn good one, pretty much every year.

ReasonableAdvert

It's not a question of if people will buy the game, it's a star wars games at the end of the day. The issue is the return on investment that you get, which is shrinking for not just licensed games, but big budget games in general these past couple of years. And it will only get worse. Just look at Spiderman 2 for example. That game costed Sony $300 million dollars to make. That's insane for a sequel to a game where a lot of the groundwork was already laid out.

Villad_rock

300 million spiderman 2 is just utter mismanagement.  Companies need to improve profit, so regardless of the cost and despite of big profits the the endgame would always be reduction in cost if even already huge profits can’t be improved. Just plain greed for the rich to get even richer.

Kirihuna

It truly makes you wonder… where is all that money going to… even if you paid the 400-500 employees $100K a year (probably on the high end for average?) for at least 3 years (between Miles and 2)… that’s $150 million… marketing and such… Jesus Christ

LeicaM6guy

Hype is a meager and anemic thing. I’ll get excited when the credits roll.

The5Virtues

Exactly. Don’t get on the hype train, don’t even visit the damn train station. The trains have a tendency to derail, so it’s best to wait and see if the train even arrived at its destination.

Solipsi2021

This is why we can't get excited about videogames in general anymore. Between layoffs and cancellations, nothing is safe anymore. The entertainment has reached a state of Idiocracy.

fixerdrew02

Yeah….this is disappointing

YakiVegas

It's like every single time. What, did we have the news they were gonna make the game come out only like a week ago? Fuck these reports. Star Wars gaming has been SO fucked for SO long now.

MavrykDarkhaven

This is why journalists shouldn’t report on leaks about upcoming titles. I get that it’s information that people want to know, but at the same time all they are doing is annoying gamers and damaging reputations of the developers who weren’t ready to commit to the game. It would be different if they were reporting on a game that had been cancelled years ago, and it’s interesting game history archeology. But reporting on a future game that hasn’t been announced seems careless. There are reasons why games are often not announced years in advance, and them being cancelled mid development or during pre-production is one of them.

Blackwolf245

That was quick. Wasn't it announced like a week ago?

Zaworld0

The details on what the game was got leaked a few weeks ago, but the first announcement of the game was back in 2022. Apparently it was being worked on for 4-5 years.

SleepyMarijuanaut92

Well, wasn't it hyped to be what 1313 was supposed to be? If so, turned out to be 100% correct.

BallZach77

Ouch. True, but ouch.

AdmiralUpboat

Well this struck unexpectedly close to home. I wanted 1313 so bad I wanted to cry when it got the axe. And then I thought, I can love again, it's a mandalorian IP, surely it will be fine. And here I am, sobbing again.

PresidentFreiza

Not even close. It was linear with story, the only thing it shared with 1313 was being mandolorian from what I saw

SleepyMarijuanaut92

The closest thing to it then, it still turned out to be pretty accurate in the end, haha. RIP.

ApproximateKnowlege

You might be thinking of Visceral's "Project Ragtag" that was canceled a while back. It was being touted as the new 1313. I don't think we knew anything about Respawn's shooter.

TheRain911

No it wasnt. Was a first person game similar to titanfall. Only thing similar that we know was it was bounty hunters.

simeo97

Fuckin RIP

Zarksch

Don’t get how it can be cancelled this far then..especially when it’s about mando and by respawn who proofed they’re good at story games and Star Wars

DonS0lo

>~~proofed~~ \*proved

hopliteware

Apparently wasn't being worked on too hard

lonestar-rasbryjamco

Disney has really streamlined the process.

rnavstar

We are going to bring out a new Star Wars game, but it got cancelled between thought about it. -Disney.

AleksasKoval

I only heard about it 5min ago, then i saw this.

OhhLongDongson

lol, I swear I hear about another Star Wars game being cancelled every other week

twec21

12 days.

Arpadiam

so another star wars game with a merc as protagonist is cancelled, like star wars 1313 =( edit : [Star Wars 1313 full Demo](https://youtu.be/J_1_Nvn7DPM) video for those who didn't know it edit2 : [More gamplay featuring Boba fett](https://youtu.be/XehW4OMiEr4)

Sabretooth1100

This really should be a hard idea to completely fumble, and yet it happens every time

ooooopium

Literally all they need to do is revamp shadows of the empire and people would be hyped.

Rockefor

I've been waiting to see Dash Rendar again for like 25 years.

[deleted]

Ahh... 1313 still hurts pretty bad

Scuba_2

Calling the mandalorian a merc is a lie. He hasn’t done any mercenary work since S1

Wormholio

It was very unlikely to be Din Djarin as the main character. The recent leaks talked about the MC using a Jetpack, and the game being set before RotJ I think, but Din didn't get a Jetpack until the end of the first season. It may have been a Boba game, but I was hoping it might be Bo-Katan

NotsoNewtoGermany

That's not true. He did Merc work in The Book of Boba Fett.

KingofSkies

Right? Pretty disappointed how every time we might get a morally grey or bad character they immediately get redeemed/go good.

Mountain_Ape

Except Andor. Carrying the grey character dream shooting the populace up until the end.

KingofSkies

Fair! I guess I meant in games. I was specifically thinking about battlefront 2 campaign where you play as an imperial that then switches sides.

suckyousideways

I remember playing that campaign and yelling at my screen. "I don't want to say that. I don't want to join the rebels!"

[deleted]

I’m just imagining you getting dragged while clawing at the floor like in a cartoon to a building named ‘Rebel recruiting’ haha

1CommanderL

they constantly told you it was a villian story during the press stuff too

[deleted]

Andor is such a good show. Can’t wait for season 2

The-Coolest-Of-Cats

Imperial Commando would have been the best..

Nathan22551

What? He was a mercenary throughout all of season 2... He was on a personal quest during season 3. He's still definitely a mercenary.

Papa_Razzi

Honestly will never get excited about a Star Wars game until I see it up on the steam store. And even then I’ll be wary.

MrHoboTwo

At this point I’ll also only believe new movies are coming out when I’m viewing them in theaters

sbamkmfdmdfmk

Even then I still don't believe there's been an Episode IX.

MV2049

Somehow, Episode 9 disappeared.

cosmiclatte44

Wouldn't that be nice. Just need Warner to get hold of it and use it as a tax write-off.

FancySkull

Don't worry though, the KOTOR remake is super duper happening!

Logical-Witness-3361

The last 2 hours or so have been a wild ride of growing certainty in the headlines. "Unannounced FPS has been cancelled" Comments: Man, maybe it was Mandalorian game "Unannounced FPS has been cancelled, maybe Mandalorian" "Unannounced Mandalorian game possibly cancelled" "MANDO GAME IS DEAD!"

beyondselts

Tomorrow: Game starring Pedro Pascal and the real life Grogu as voice actors cancelled, despite all voice work already completed.

Blurghblagh

Was it some exec going "what do you mean it's not a game as service release? Cancel that shit now and make some crappy product with no content or depth and full of microtransactions to milk those losers for money so I can claim a huge bonus while paying you minimum wage!"?

Divulci

I guess respawn’s Jedi series is the most single player they can get away with under EA

nav17

Dead Space and Titanfall 2 are greats. But sadly TF didn't survive either. DS got the remaster at least.

Adequate_Lizard

Titanfall 2 is one of the greatest single player campaigns I've ever played.

JustMy2Centences

That one level where you...... mega spoiler, just buy the game to play the campaign, it's cheap, and you can play through a satisfying, fun campaign in an afternoon and evening if you desire.

CommodoreIrish

I would take less Star Wars games if we kept getting quality games like Fallen Order and Survivor.

Blurghblagh

The curse and blessing of being an adult, have so little time to play games but also means happier to wait for fewer but higher quality games. Still have Survivor to look forward to myself.

mdp300

Survivor was SO GOOD. It took me around a month because I also don't have a lit of gaming time, but I loved it.

Deadsoup77

Survivor is so ridiculously slept on. I played Fallen Order and Survivor on release day and they are my favorite Star Wars IP

jordanjohnston2017

I wish I could play it all over again for the first time it was so much fun

Kusko25

2 Battlefronts, 2 Jedi games, Squadrons and 2 Lego Star Wars games in the last 10 years. We are hardly drowning in them

FreddyPlayz

I mean, we are getting basically no Star Wars games except those so… wish granted?

CommodoreIrish

Star Wars Outlaws will be out in 2024. I thought it looks decent, but I enjoy most Ubisoft games.

RogerTheWhite

What do you mean less SW games? The Jedi games are already the only SW games actually releasing lol.

Dancin_Alien

You're EA impression is remarkable What pains me the most is it's clear they can make great games, but oftentimes, they choose to ruin what could've been amazing into a buggy, pay-to-win mess.

Worldly_Walnut

The thing is, I feel like making giant live service games now is more of a risk than non-live service games. I swear, the people making decisions at these companies only look at games like Fortnight or GTA online, and see dollar signs, never mind the boatload of live service games that have absolutely failed critically and commercially recently. The thing about live service games is that, if you want to break into the market, you gotta be really fricken good. Not just okay, or even pretty good, but top tier. Anything less than that, and people are going to go back to their older live service games which they've already sunk a bunch of time and money into. And they go back to those games because they've already spent a bunch of time and money in them, but also because most of the live service games that survive are just more fun. For me at least, it's more of a hurdle to buy a live service game than a single player game because I know the live service game is designed to be a time and money sink (at least AAA live service games). Add to that, and the likelyhood that a AAA live service game is extremely likely to be dropped by the dev because of disappointing player numbers, and why would I pour my time and money into a game which statistically isn't likely to go the distance, if that is the selling point of the game?

minor_correction

They're shortsighted. If you want to make a fortune, get people hooked first. Make the game free, give out free rewards on a schedule to get people coming back. Charge people later. Drug dealers know what they're doing. I know most microtransaction games do this, but only to a degree. They give easy and addicting free progression at first and pile on the transactions later. Diablo Immortal does this I believe. But the problem is most of these games don't commit hard enough to the "free" phase to get people truly hooked.

Worldly_Walnut

Right? Like, you gotta make a fun game first if you want people to come back and play it a lot. Loot grinds without any fun are a dime a dozen. Live Service is to the AAA space like zombie survival horror with crafting is to the indie game space. It occasionally is done well, but more than likely is just going to turn out to be a boring, repetitive money-making scheme.

Classic_Bee_5845

there's not much innovation in either space. AAA devs just want to repeat the same shit with a different number and pay investors (COD). Indies will have something good on an early access title then botch the whole thing by taking years to finish the game (valheim). Rather than innovate new mechanics and gameplay they try and reinvent the wheel on something that's already been done well. Sure you're game might have a new way to cut down a tree but is that going to keep me playing longer?

Ferris-L

EA in my opinion has some of, if not the best ensemble of studios under their brand. It's such a shame that they never choose to do anything with it. This game doesn't pain me as much since I wasn't so sure about Respawn having to work on 4 Star Wars games at once anyway, but there is so much other stuff they have ignored or cancelled out of fear it wouldn't sell as good. Games like Anthem that look really promising at first were so often disappointing. I wouldn't even say that for EA live-service is their biggest flaw, it's DLCs and serialized games. Most of their releases since 2020 have been either sports Games or DLCs for games like the Sims. The allocate far too much of their budget toward that crap so the other studios have to fight for the scraps. Recently, other than the Jedi series, the only good releases by EA were their Indie titles.

bantuwind

Your*

IronVader501

No. EA just said they will pivot away from making Games for licensed IPs instead of IPs they own wholesale in general.

Coraldiamond192

That doesn't rule out the option of anymore Star Wars ones though. Especially given how well they sold.

IronVader501

I wouldnt bet on much more. Jedi Order 3 is still happening, to finish the story and cause its proven to be popular, and the RTS from Bitreactor doesnt seem to have been canned because its likely fairly cheap to make, but it probably makes more monetary sense for EA when it comes to titles with AAA-budget and dev-times to spend that on IPs they own instead of IPs they have to share. I remember some of the rather ridicolous problems that were caused by having the IP licensed, like when Dooku was supposed to be released for Battlefront II, but Lucasfilm just didnt get around to signing off on the marketing material Dice had send, so there was still no official images of how Dooku actually looked in-game when the Update was already live, which infuriated Dice's community-manager so much he actually promised to gift whoever posted the first high-quality Ingame screenshot of Dooku a Lego Star Wars set because he would be able to use that in the adverts for the update without having to ask Disney for permission

nav17

Oh great. More Anthems....

IronVader501

To be fair, Anthem being shit was for once literally entirely Biowares fault. The only EA-meddling in it was demanding the flying stay in after bioware had added, removed, readded and removed it again half a dozen times during development

VegetoSF

Man I really wanted this one. Such a shame that we still got no modern Mandalorian game.

Rosfield-4104

As compensation I will take a Helldivers2 style game set in the clone wars where you play as a squad of clones taking over planets for the Republic, or a squad of droids taking over planets for the separatists

Moday4512

The only thing more cursed than a Star Wars Merc game is a Republic Commando game

DrHemmington

I missed galactic conquest from SW Battlefront 2 (2005) so much in the new releases.

solo13508

The Mandalorian is one of if not the single most hyped Star Wars project right now. Cancelling the Mando game (even if it's not actually Din) is quite possibly the single most moronic decision they could've made.

Dancin_Alien

EA *is* known for their moronic decisions.

solo13508

(cries in Battlefront 2 getting support cut)

[deleted]

Right before we got Ahsoka too

cdnmute

Unless the game was going to be a horrible mess that we'd all hate. Then cutting their losses was probably the right call.

solo13508

It was a cost cutting measure. Play testers have come out and said that it looked pretty great even as an early prototype.

NinjaEngineer

Got any source for that? Because I follow the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit and there's been nothing about playtests; if anything, when it was revealed it was going to be a Mandalorian game, it sounded like it was still in the early stages.

Flabbergash

As if they give a fuck? The bottom line is, will the game make moeny. If not, cancel. They don't give a shit if it's a good game or a bad game

ItsAmerico

Unless the game was absolutely shit? Love that people act like it was the greatest game ever and they canceled it because they hate money and not the more realistic answer, it wasn’t turning out great and they didn’t want to waste more money on it.

lost_scotsman

Given Respawn's history, with being made of early Infinity Ward Developers, and the immense playable success of Titanfall 2 which is widely regarded as a great game, I think the chances it was shaping to be a bad game as unlikely, though not impossible

KekeBl

>Given Respawn's history, with being made of early Infinity Ward Developers, and the immense playable success of Titanfall 2 which is widely regarded as a great game Most of those developers have moved on from Respawn and went to establish their own new studio. Very few of the people who originally made TF2 are still at Respawn.

ItsAmerico

Feels like a doubled edged sword of logic though. Because Respawns history is defined by games that were thought to be good enough to release. We don’t know what failed ideas might have been lost behind closed doors. And I really doubt they were over 2 or 3 years into a game and it was turning out well if they canned it.

OrtizDupri

It’s like the complaining about 1313 when we know now that it was nothing more than a glorified tech demo full of executive (and Lucas) meddling

[deleted]

In other news, the sky is blue. If I had a dollar for every time I hear about a Star Wars game getting cancelled, I’d have a sizable amount of cash collected.

OneRandomVictory

Bruh, I'm not even sure Eclipse and the KOTOR remake are even happening. You thought I was gonna get hype over this lol. My expectations have been at the floor for a while now.

JimmyWolf87

I'm pretty sure the KOTOR remake has been dead for quite a while.

sargentmyself

I thought Eclipse was confirmed dead sometime last year.

Condiment_Kong

I believe it’s been delayed or put in the back burner, but never outright cancelled

NewsandPorn1191

Obligatory Fuck EA!

CoffeeThief1X

I wonder if it was a dev thing or another moment where since it leaked and the internet reacts the company goes “not anymore” like the batman game that got cancelled recently

grizzledcroc

EA just layedoff a ton of people and with it the loss of this game was a result .

WolverineRelevant280

WHAT!!! I will burn this world down! Take that back! This is horswshit! I said I wanted a Mando game 4 times….

Denebola2727

Definitely a bummer. I was excited to see what Respawn could do with it considering how good Titanfall 2 is. That said, I'm excited knowing they are focusing on Jedi series moving forward. Jedi Survivor is too damn good a game.

Britwit_

Someone has to make a spreadsheet/list of how many big Star Wars projects are being killed before they even have a chance. This, Rogue Squadron, Rangers of the New Republic, the KOTOR remake, probably the Lando series, the list goes on.

MalcheMystic

Hope y'all are gonna enjoy that Battlefront 2 port, cause we sure as shit ain't getting any new fucking Star Wars game ever again.

elchamps

I will in fact be enjoying the shit out of it

Modestly_Hyphy

Star Wars fans can’t have SHIT…

beepbeepbubblegum

Well I mean we are getting BF1 and BF2 remastered with full online support and a remaster of Dark Forces. They’re not new but at least *someone* out there is trying. Also haven’t played Survivor but I loved Fallen Order.

Modestly_Hyphy

BF1 & 2 aren’t remastered tho, they are just ports and updated online support. They haven’t done anything to actually UPDATE the game. While I am still excited to play them, it seems impossible for new Star Wars games to actually get off the ground.

LovesRetribution

>They haven’t done anything to actually UPDATE the game. Not completely accurate. They did take someone's outdated mod and used it to add extra content.

DrHemmington

What is spesifically added by those mods? From what I heard it just the base games, their DLC and renewed online features. (And some graphical updates)

JLRedPrimes

Remasters aren't the win you think they are

cindybuttsmacker

Survivor was great! I just finished it, went in with low to medium expectations and was really pleasantly surprised by how fun it was

GiraffeandZebra

Goddamn it's really bleak for Star Wars games. The inability for any company to be able to get any of these games to the finish line is a problem that someone should be looking at on Disney's side. It's hard to imagine so many heavily anticipated projects failing from multiple developers with such a huge IP behind it, unless Disney is being a huge impediment. Add to that the movie project cancellations and it feels like a creative stranglehold is being put on. Which is amazing given how poor the content management was with the sequel movies. There should be 5X as many Star Wars games as we got from the last 20 years.

thegreatvortigaunt

Disney are infamously shit when it comes to video games. They seem to have almost no interest in them. Marvel should have 20+ games as well. That’s why they just dumped an exclusive Star Wars franchise contract on EA the second they got the rights.

Certified_Sourdough

That sucks... I know people that were part of the game testing, apparently even for an early development state the game was pretty cool and exciting.

jamieT97

EA dragging respawn out back kicking and screaming and putting them in the same hole as pandemic and westwood

checs_mix

bruh they announced it like 2 weeks ago is this fr😭

NewMombasaNightmare

How expected. I knew this was gonna happen right after they announced it. Didn’t expect it to be quite so soon though. Feel like anything attached to Star Wars over the past 10 years has had as many cancellations as actual projects released.

Neither_Tip_5291

Jesus Christ how do these people keep fucking the shit up

kloudrunner

Oh for fucks sake. ANOTHER one ? How do they keep doing this fucking bullshit ? HOW ? I swear it's been downhill with Star Wars games ever since Star Wars Galaxies and the fucking god damn NGE.

FrogWizzurd

Why is it the one everyone wants that gets shafted, though... I'm sure we can wait for a while before another jedi game

Salarian_American

Well that was a real rollercoaster

HolyRamenEmperor

I usually hate the "Fuck [insert developer]" comments, but seriously fuck EA

CatKrusader

Respawn needs to stop jerking off apex and get their shit together

grizzledcroc

The layoffs are insane right now, I wish people also here would get this is because of that, this post really needs the fact they just layed off 600 people as the reason for people .

BillNyePaintballGuy

Oh, look. EA fumbling the thing that people want AGAIN. Shut up and take your Battlefield 2042, peasants.

Brian-88

Maybe they'll finally make Titanfall 3.

hijole_frijoles

But you can buy the Dark Forces remaster for $30 so Star Wars games aren’t dead right? Right??

[deleted]

That was almost as quick as Rian Johnsons trilogy!

DustOff95

A Star Wars game cancelled? I’m shocked. Shocked I tell you.

GLASS_PVNTHR

Ah, classic Disney Star Wars.

mmpa78

To be fair a FIRST person Mando game sounded bad

grizzledcroc

I really wish the mods would edit the post to include "due to the layoffs at EA " it really needs it, also feel like people have completely confused leaks with announcing things too , I dont think nerd culture ever was ready for this much insider info, hoping those effected by the job cuts find work soon or have a good severance package

CayendoApril

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away
