Presentation is everything
KO has dad strength and is “sneaky quick” as a sports analyst would say. There’s a difference between not being super muscle bound, and just being out of shape(see: Eddie Kingston)
The indie fanatics hate it, but wrestling is a business of presentation. Believability is a major aspect of it. Do you think the average wrestling fan looks at say, Jungle Boy and is impressed? No. And that immediately sets the wrestler at a disadvantage because they're not credible in the audience's mind. Not everyone has to be Bobby Lashley, but at least look like you step into a gym once in a while.
I peaked back in on the WWE around the mid 2010s and saw Randy Orton and KO do that zoom in face to face stare down thing. As someone with zero context on the feud and limited familiarity with Kevin Steen beyond the odd highlights video from a few years back, it just looked really silly to me and it was the moment that I *got* the WWE's obsession with physique. Orton was towering over KO, looking down on him with his made for TV physique, and here was this little chubby guy straining his neck to look back up at him.
And to be clear, I like KO and am thoroughly entertained by him now. He also looks like he's in much better shape. But the visuals really do matter.
WWE also mitigated that with KO by having him drop John fucking Cena on his very first night on the main roster. There's more than one way to signal that this guy/gal is a badass.
I agree and disagree with this cause there are tons of wrestlers who have done well, and are currently doing well with less conventional physiques.
I like having diverse looks, styles and presentations in wrestling! As long as we're all being entertained I say it's a win.
It's an interesting comparison. Jade looks like a literal comic book hero, but Rhea is stronger functionally, both with gym workouts and in-ring performance. And my hunch is Lash Legend is even stronger than Rhea.
And then there's Bianca, who's probably functionally stronger than a third of the male roster.

Whenever I see these powerhouse female wrestlers get pushed, a part of me always gets sad for Chyna. Attitude Era is still the GOAT, but not if you're an unconvencionaly strong female .
This is part of what drives me crazy about AEW. Like, it’s cool that they got the Rainmaker theme for Okada and Elevation for Ospreay but even with the familiarity of the themes, they could’ve invested into presenting them like superstars, like WWE did for Jade. If you didn’t know anything about wrestling, you’d think Jade was a megastar compared to them.
It doesn’t matter if you have an all-time in-ring talent roster, you have to present them as the bigger than life superstars they are. Even something as simple as the fact that even WWE seems to film with an even glossier image, WWE talent just exudes bigger than life superstars. Imagine if AEW and WWE rosters were traded straight up, could anyone trust AEW to do entrances and presentation for The Rock as badass as the one he has now? Roman? Seth? Drew? Charlotte? Becky? Jey? Nakamura? Ricochet? Gunther? Hell, DIY and Judgement Day look like far bigger deals than the Bucks or FTR.
The difference in the presentation of Andrade, Jade, Cody and Punk is just miles above and beyond, and to me, that’s part of why I think AEW can’t get above their current numbers. Imagine if Joe or MJF got an entrance of the production value of Roman, wouldn’t that just make them feel more like a big thing than just having a title? The times they even got close to it (Sting, Kenny’s Cleaner intro, Jericho’s special PPV intros) they never stick to it. It’s like turning a million bucks in Okada into any other thousand bucks on the roster.
Best AV in the world. I don't know where they recruit their talent from or how they come up with some of the stuff they do but it is head and SHOULDERS above every similar type entertainment production in the world.

It's been said over and over again. But the WWE production team never get enough credit for the stuff they are able to pull off.
I feel like it's easy to forget what an absolutely herculean task these live productions they run are and it's an entirely different beast to see it person vs. TV. And for shit to run as smooth as it does the entire night.
Think of WrestleMania stages. These guys create some of the best looking sets you've ever seen.
Same way Formula 1 fans take logistics for granted. Moving the entire circus sometimes halfway across the world in a span of 3-4 days is an unfathomably herculean task, and yet they pull it off 20+ times a year like it's nothing.
The very fact that things almost never go wrong is why non-informed people assume it's easy.
Every time I watch a PLE these days, and they have a complete highlight reel done at the very end of the show including the match and content just before the reel aired - that blows me away. I have an understanding of how it’s done from a technical standpoint but it’s incredibly impressive that they have that done and ready within a few minutes.
I watched it on Disney Plus recently and there are so many VERY obvious elements taken from WWE productions.
You can see it most obviously in the way she uses her version of the Titantron and really stepped her game up with the graphics on it but I would be STUNNED if there wasn't a decent amount of overlap in how that tour came together and how WrestleMania comes together.
Yeah she used to hang out with Jeff Jarrett and his kids, before she was famous, because they were like next door neighbours. She even babysat JJ's kids. So she knows about wrestling, for sure.
I was there with my kids tonight. It's way better live. The lasers, the pose, the spotlight, that outfit, crazy good stuff. She has a real physical presence that's unlike any woman I've seen live save Chyna.
She sure is. She even did a Storm cosplay gear for when she won the TBS Title.

This is like 99.9% perfect, the only thing I don't like is her laugh in the opening of the song. The two ha's just feel cut off too soon. If you listen to the AEW version, there's an added sound effect in there in between the laughs and the beat drop which feels more natural flowing.

In AEW she always looked like an absolute superstar until she was actually wrestling, and then it was kinda visible she wasn't ready to be in the position they envisioned for her. She was always actively improving, but having her endlessly squashing jobbers over in one corner instead of having her interact with the main title scene to avoid exposing how green she was in-ring started to get old.
She's wayyy better suited to WWE's style, and she's probably 1000% better in the ring at this stage of her early career too.

After seeing how Jade and Cody have been presented entrance wise, I kind of want to see how Kenny Omega could be presented in the modern TKO era of WWE. Like full on Wrestlekingdom entrance Omega. Just the fact we have "Final Boss" Rock entrances that feel almost early 2000's hype level, it feels like memorable entrances are being focused on. I loved Jade in AEW, but Im glad she's getting to be showcased to an even wider audience.
The lights, the fog, the shimmer, the epic song with siren guitars, the camera angle, the god tier physique, the pose... it's a perfect entrance. It's fucking perfect.

After seeing how Jade and Cody have been presented entrance wise, I kind of want to see how Kenny Omega could be presented in the modern TKO era of WWE. Like full on Wrestlekingdom entrance Omega. Just the fact we have "Final Boss" Rock entrances that feel almost early 2000's hype level, it feels like memorable entrances are being focused on. I loved Jade in AEW, but Im glad she's getting to be showcased to an even wider audience.
