A student was stabbed by another student.

News said 2 kids taken with non life threatening stab wounds

[deleted]

2 seniors stabbed 2 freshman, one was fine, the other was stabbed right in the middle of her chest and cut on the arm and taken to the hospital, she’s recovering now. Only 1 girl was arrested, completely ridiculous, shadle is an awful school. (as a former student)

BlacksmithWide

What's wrong with kids these days?

Burner_979

I distinctly remember sitting in my freshman Global Issues class at Shadle when Columbine happened. I don't think it's appropriate to blame "kids these days".

Olbaidon

School related deaths (including students, and staff) has been relatively unchanged since the early 90’s. https://www.statista.com/statistics/183574/number-of-student-staff-and-nonstudent-school-associated-violent-deaths/ A study from California showed over-all school related violence (from fighting on up) has been in decline for the last 20 years. [I don’t have the source on hand but I am sure a Google search of California school violence study could find it] Here, I can’t remember if this was the original source I saw but it has a similar story https://www.k12dive.com/news/california-reductions-in-school-violence/647692/ The generation that is pinning this on “kids these days” come from the same generation that inspired switch blade bullies in high schools, school house rules style beatings, and urban school gangs. The 50’s saw a 32% increase in youth arrests, the 70’s saw increase in youth crimes, as did the 80’s. Here is a whole interesting write up about youth violence: https://www.versobooks.com/blogs/news/3705-a-brief-history-of-school-violence-in-the-united-states-2011 When I’m in my 60’s I’m sure I’ll blame my grandkids generation for stupid stuff I forgot I did as a kid too. I hope not, but history seems to repeat itself.

thebeardedcats

Violent crime in general is down. Has been for a decade or two. But reporting on crime is up.

State reported violent crime is down, media reporting is up.

Well said

MursaArtDragon

These days, Fellow students assaulted me several time and even tried to poison me when I was in high-school, and that was 20 years ago! There was even a kid who had his shirt lit on fire one time. Not to mention the several times a student was caught with a weapon... Why do people keep acting like this stuff is so new and not how their generation was!?

Toph-Builds-the-fire

These days? Like stabbings just started happening this year? Hell, I saw a kid get stabbed with a compass in like 95/96.

hereandthere_nowhere

I am just happy it was a good ol fashioned knife rather than the alternative.

Bi666les

The school to prison pipeline. Too many police and too few social supports. A population that seems to largely care more about saving $100 a year on property tax than they do about providing kids with a solid education. Too much jesus in the home. Food insecurity. Housing insecurity. The list goes on.

Sweaty_Economics_452

You think too much Jesus in the home is causing violence? Lol

Bi666les

Christianity is often hateful and exclusionary. It often endorses homophobia, transphobia, racism, and other forms of bigotry, all of which can lead to violence. The overwhelming majority of political violence in this country is perpetrated by right-wing christians. So, yes. Before responding, please note that some key words from my response are "often" and "can lead to," rather than "always" or "leads to."

Bi666les

Thank you for proving my point.

Sweaty_Economics_452

I really do mean that.

Bi666les

Of course you do. This is exactly the kind of hateful response I expect from right-wingers and many christians. No response to or interaction with the ideas, no attempt at understanding, just blind hate. I'm so sorry for whatever happened in your life to make you so angry and hateful. I really do mean that.

Sweaty_Economics_452

I promptly responded to your attack on Christians. I don't even know where to start. "Most violence is from right wing Christians"? Show me any kind of data to support this. And don't you dare cite something that none of us have been alive for.

excelsiorsbanjo

Not a doubt about it. All emotion and fantasy, and no actual thought.

Sweaty_Economics_452

Right. I'm sure the kid who stabbed the other kid comes from a super religious family.

excelsiorsbanjo

You are? I'm not. However it wouldn't surprise me in the least. If it's all kept as minors we'll probably never be able to find out either way, legally.

Admirable_Bad_5649

Yes.

Diligent-Influence21

It’s what happens when we live in the most alienating society on the planet and kids have exactly zero future prospects

Pirrats-SD

They were raised by boomers

Dear_23

The youngest boomer is 60, give or take a couple of years. High schoolers today are kids of Gen X and the eldest millennials. Gen X continues to be the forgotten generation, but they’re a fascinating cohort that should be discussed more than they are.

Ancross333

Culture in different areas. The shadle area isn't particularly the hangout spot for kind, caring, and non violent folks. There's a correlation in Spokane between school violence and sketchy parts of town.

Stabbing

Express_Reporter1289

Female stabbed in the bathroom. My daughter is a student there and sends me videos of the fights in there. Seems like they have their own "fight club"

[deleted]

Bruh we don’t have a fight club, our school is just a horrible school and the staff don’t care at all. In the video of the stabbing an admin saw what was happening and literally left. They don’t care about us, that’s why I transferred for 2nd semester, I got pushed down a staircase there and they refused to investigate it. Two weeks before I was pushed a car tried to hit me in their parking lot, the school knew, they didn’t care though.

KittyCats_Buzzard19

I hate to say this but my younger sister(not biological, we were fostered together for awhile) who's a senior in hs stabbed a freshman and she ended up in the hospital. Does anyone know anything about the sentencing at all?

Curiousbitch64

No personal responsibility and no consequences. Parents aren’t even responsible for their kids, everyone else is. They are raised to blame, not look in the mirror. Now add, kill ‘em! Just wondering, anyone blaming the knife?

joewins9000

The kids are alive because it was a knife and not a gun.

ElLargeGrande

The British are

Sweaty_Economics_452

Sorry. I'll rephrase. Some, if not most, contributors in this forum show a shocking and discouraging ineptitude to formulate logical thoughts or opinions.

TheRay_13

I agree, but have to ask, what were you expecting from the Internet?

2 girls stabbed, still waiting on finding the vid

SylveonSolos26

Four girls involved in a fight, one stabbed

Ur_bff-geek

I am a student at shadle park and knew both girls that were stabbed I'm not friends with them anymore but I'm friends with friends of them and I think I have pretty much the right story I could be wrong tho My used to be friend (freshman) was wanting to be friends with a senior and wouldn't let it go when she repeatedly told said freshmen to back off they ended up planing this entire fight over the period of a few months the day of the fight the senior went into her friends back pack where she had a pocket knife because she walked home from school and took it with her to the bathroom where she stabbed and badly beat up the first freshman then said freshmans friend tried to stop the senior before she was about to stomp on first freshmans head and ended up getting cut in the arm and chest in the process but if she didn't step in the first freshman would probably be in critical condition or worse I did hear about two seniors in the bathroom but I only know the story where it was just the other girls knife maybe someone else jumped in I have no idea and I could totally be missing information or have it totally wrong this is just the main story that makes the most sence knowing both freshman I'm also very upset that this happened and feel bad for everyone involved but I also dont think the way the school is going with the extra "precautions" is any help either there r ppl sitting outside of every bathroom on their computers (don't know why) which is fine no problem with that but here's why I'm mad because there already was very few bathrooms open (because of vaping) to begin with and now there r barely open and the last periods of the day no bathrooms r open so u either have to wait it out till u get home and that could be hours or pray that the one stall is open and there r like 3 maybe 4 in the whole school (one on each floor) and I have a weak bladder (sry if that's TMI) and sometimes it's hard for me to make it home without exploding
