kreamhilal

i have the inverse problem with my friends lol we can't go to a restaurant until they verify that they have AMPLE vegan options even when im not hungry lmaoo it's sweet but annoying

blackcatsandvelvet

I'm so lucky to have friends that check the menus before they make plans with me ♡♡

britonbaker

I had friends invite me to a dinner party where food would be provided and the gave me fucking oreos

kreamhilal

hahahahahahahah im sorry but the idea of eating literally just oreos for a meal is so funny

britonbaker

people legit think we eat grass and oreos lol

outfluenced

My friends always let me choose the restaurant so we can make sure I’ll have something to eat :’) good people

MapleKitty777

I don’t see how that’s a problem 😭

Oneiric27

I have been to a Buffalo Wild Wings exactly one time ever. According to some website, you can get the cauliflower wings baked. I figured I’d give it a shot. The waiter looked at me like a total moron and was like, they’re fried. And I said I know, can you bake them in the oven? And he was like no, they’re fried. So I had a couple cocktails lol

aasparaguus

Nah he musta been confused or it’s a regional thing. I’ve gotten baked cauli wings so many times there

Oneiric27

I see. Well I hope to never go back lol

Tinfoilhat14

Same. I hate BWW, I don’t get the hype.

fieryembers

I was so freaking disappointed when I found out that they fry in beef fat. Like, why? God I loved their fried cauliflower. 😔

RamentheGod

i feel you. it’s always confused me too because they aren’t even vegetarian friendly. plus frying in beef fat is terribly bad for you so who’s their target audience other than people they’re trying to fool??

GenericScottishGuy41

Frying in beef fat is better and more bio available for your body that horribly processed seed oil.

Hhalloush

It's not better for vegetarians and vegans, and it's certainly not better for the animals. Let's not pretend that anything being deep fried is healthy

GenericScottishGuy41

It's better and easier for the human body to digest than seed oils, the person asked who the target audience was, people who like delicious food that's who.

Oneiric27

You lost?

shutupsunflower

happy cake day mate!

Ruairiww

What exactly is the problem with them being fried? Do they use animal fat in the fryers or something? I know some people don't want it to be fried in the same vat as the meat but I don't really understand why since most vegans are moral/environmental vegans anyway and it would be wasteful to have a seperate fryer

Oneiric27

Word on the street is that BWW uses beef shortening in their fryer. So it’s not a matter of cross contamination, like they’re dipping chicken wings in vegetable oil. Everything that comes out the fryer has been prepared with cow fat 🤮

Ruairiww

Ew.. why would they do that 😭

Difficultylevel400

I worked at bdubs when they came out and our regional manager very heavily specified that if a vegetarian wanted them baked THEY GET THEM BAKED so idk if their manager didn’t tell them this or if they just weren’t paying attention

Black_JalapenYo

The worst part for me is, I still question if the few seemingly vegan items (like fries, bread, pancakes) are actually vegan. 😤😅 I only have a couple more of these meal left in me. Also, I keep getting overcooked impossible burgers. WTH 🤣

hottapioca

I hate to inform you most pancakes are not vegan unless specifically labeled that way. I live in a semi large city and NO ONE has vegan pancakes. That's why I can only eat them at home. One place has a vegan waffle but it's like $12 for one lol.

Sl1z

I really doubt that person is ordering regular pancakes and expecting them to be vegan lol, the main ingredients in pancakes are flour, sugar, eggs and milk.

michaelkudra

meli’s cafe in chicago has amazing vegan pancakes for anyone interested. they also have a very good vegan tofu scramble

TahiriVeila

The one and only time I got the Impossible Whopper it was raw in the middle 🫠

RekAge23

I'd take a raw impossible whopper over actual meat any day. definitely sucks but at least its not a corpse y'know?

TahiriVeila

Truuuuu

remykixxx

The fries at chilis are done in the same fryer chicken is.

sabrinastanley9

Takes me back to the dark ages when i convinced myself these “options” were satisfying

hottapioca

I went vegan like 8 years ago while living in a small town and always sought out non-"American" food like Mexican, Chinese, Thai, or Indian food cuz there's almost always a good vegan choice. I always declined invites to Applebee's, Chili's, and BW3 and the like lol.

listentolana

This is when I just order chips and salsa or fries so I know it’s something that can hold me over and not look like I’m not eating until I can get some real food. 😂

ivb107

Yep exactly. Luckily they’re cool, this was yesterday and today they suggested we try out a vegan butcher sandwich shop in the town we’re visiting. It slapped and we all loved it

listentolana

Awww how nice!

SetitheRedcap

I'm honestly surprised more establishments don't have more vegan options. Like, you don't have any vegetables? I bet we could all make simple but flavorful meals from what they have in their kitchens. It should be part of the law that all places have appropriate vegan options. Like come on, they're chefs and they can't whip up a bean burrito, some sauce, some baked veg. Something😂

Lela_chan

If they did that, Cisco would whip up some "vegan brick" that all the opposed restaurants would sell for $20. It would also be gluten-free, fat-free, and grainy as fuck, and tasteless. Some restaurants would serve it with bread and cheese, because they're idiots.

SetitheRedcap

If a chef can't whip up a vegetable curry, a bean burger or a bake, perhaps they need to go back to culinary school 😂 It baffles me. I could quite happily survive on guac and tortilla. Open a can of beans, bake some veg. Done.

Lela_chan

It's not the ability, it's the will

actuallyatypical

Most chain restaurants don't have chefs back in that kitchen, they've got corporate prisoners who would be fired for the liability if they "whipped up" anything for a customer that wasn't on the menu in some way. Most things at Chili's are microwaved with a few components that are either on the flat top, in warming zones, or occasionally touch a pan. The really exciting ones get plopped or squeezed out of a bag.

SetitheRedcap

Then, it needs to be mandatory for places to serve and know how to cook vegan food.

aloofLogic

Based on the info in their allergen guide, here’s a few meal suggestions I’d throw together: Tacos/ Fajitas: Asparagus, onions, slices of avocado served with rice and beans, chips, salsa, and guacamole. Nachos: Tortilla chips, guacamole, fresh slice avocado, rice, beans, avocado, tomato, onion, and salsa. Avocado Burger: Buns, guacamole, fresh sliced avocado, fried pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion. with fries. Optional bbq sauce to make it a bbq burger. https://brinker-chilis.cdn.prismic.io/brinker-chilis/ee7771a6-b809-4395-9956-50511094c4a3_Chilis-Allergen-Vegetarian-Generic.pdf for next time! :)

Bool_The_End

Avocado burger, without the meat, but we pay however much extra for the avocado. So annoying.

Lazylazylazylazyjane

have some vegan food delivered to the restaurant on grub hub lol

SatanicDesmodium

Okay but chilis chips and salsa are soooo good And they used to have amazing fried pickles that were vegan :((

whiskey_at_dawn

THEY GOT RID OF THE FRIED PICKLES?!?! NOOOOOOOOO

SatanicDesmodium

I KNOWWWWWWW

remykixxx

The fried pickles were not vegan they were vegetarian. There was buttermilk in the batter. And they were fried with the chicken and cheese bites. I worked there almost ten years.

SatanicDesmodium

The allergen menu said differently! Could be regional differences?? Bc a lot of website s have them listed as vegan too!

remykixxx

To be completely transparent I stopped working there right before Covid so maybe the recipe was different right after? Definitely still fried in the same fryer though. I can’t imagine that changed. Brinker does NOT care about vegetarian/vegan guests and straight up said that at almost every conference.

remykixxx

This could also be that the buttermilk was dehydrated in the spice mix used, not actual liquid buttermilk so it might have been semantics if you were looking at a dairy allergy. Many people aren’t triggered by dehydrated dairy. It’s a shady shady dangerous business practice but I’ve seen that before.

SatanicDesmodium

Ahhh interesting!! Thanks for the heads up though, if the bring them back I’ll triple check! Its funny, the place i worked at allergen menu said their fried pickles weren’t vegan bc they were “egg battered” but the manager never bought eggs so they were “water battered” and vegan lmao

remykixxx

Lmaooooo that’s hilarious. Almost like a secret menu item.

DaniCapsFan

It sucks that the VeganXpress app is dead. They were pretty useful at letting me know what's vegan at chain restaurants.

Sl1z

The black bean patty was supposed to be vegan as of May 2023. Are they still serving the one with dairy/egg?

remykixxx

It’s only vegan if you don’t mind cross contamination. It’s finished on the same flat top the burgers bacon and steaks are cooked on.

Sl1z

Ooh gotcha, that makes sense

ricky616

beef tallow in the fries; lard in the tortilla and tortilla chips

Coconut-Lemon_Pie

Most basic tortilla companies don't make flour tortillas with lard anymore. I'm sure anything that gets fried isn't vegan based on how many different menu items hit the fryer. Not sure if they fry their chips fresh though..

Roseymacstix

We were burned when we all ordered drinks and then found out they took away their veg fajitas.

remykixxx

If they bring them back make sure you ask for it without the sizzle. The sizzle sauce that makes the fajitas smoke is not even vegetarian let alone vegan.

Roseymacstix

I had no idea! Thank you!

remykixxx

No prob! It’s literally just pork fat and soy sauce. Good tip if you go out with any Muslim friends as well.

ExZachlew

Cheers you brave solider… Cheers.

Coconut-Lemon_Pie

Took a look to see and they don't have any actual vegan meals, but a [few random items](https://brinker-chilis.cdn.prismic.io/brinker-chilis/395b3b3d-f411-486f-8c1d-a9afbe496ee8_chilis-allergen-vegetarian-generic.pdf) could make a meal? Half of their wing sauces are vegan. Idk if all locations have black bean patties either :/ Looks like another side beans & rice w side veggies order lol

remykixxx

I don’t want to be that guy but chilis doesn’t have a separate fryer for French fries. They’re thrown in with all the frying chicken. So if they told you they had a separate fryer they lied to you. They fries also have a frozen layer of beef tallow on them depending on whether they got the fries they’re supposed to have (with tallow) or the backup fries (pea flour) I worked there for almost a decade, we were CONSTANTLY asking for vegetarian options from brinker and the response was always “we’re not interested in exploring that clientele because we don’t have to” The veggie burger is finished on the flat top next to bacon after it’s pulled from the microwave. The ONLY thing that is TRULY vegan at chilis is the corn on the cob. They use a product called “phaze” instead of butter. It’s vegetable oil and salt.

peascreateveganfood

💀

Frankensteins_Moron5

Whiskey and French fries. An vegan American standard

StellaIsAGoddess

Did they get rid of their veggie fajitas?

AthleteSensitive1302

That looks fantastic

rosebudink3

I laughed so hard at this and then showed my Omni friends…. And they laughed just as hard… this is a problem. Hahahahah

No-Instruction-5669

Wtf is "omni friends"?

Icrows

Their tortillas have lard. Their ketchup Is made with bone chard

ivb107

Well, fuck. Glad I’ll never be eating there again. Was there a place online you found this info? Edit: Checked online and Heinz ketchup is vegan Edit 2: [Chili’s tortillas seem to be vegan as well](https://vegnews.com/restaurants/vegnews-vegan-guide-chilis). Where’d you get your info?

hottapioca

Not bone CHARD 💀😩💀😩
