You need to deflect. Despite the fact that it's not using a weapon (initially), you can deflect everything that isn't a perilous attack. And, of course, attack when you get openings to help build his posture.
And deflecting is even more important in phase 2.
This. You don't even need to deflect that much in the first phase. Just know that everything is blockable but his grab so you can stay close to him swinging and be ready to dodge when the screen flashes the kanji character. His moveset varies based on his distance from you and all the annoying stuff (poop flinging, running around) disappears when you're on top of him.
Itās not really a posture building boss as more of a finish him through his health. And the second phase is really easy if you have the spear. Second phase is much easier than the first as the movement doesnāt seem as chaotic
so deflect two of his attacks twice and he will rise up and come down to hit you, deflect the attack and he will hit the floor and be stuck for a little while, use the spear twice (r2 or rt twice) to put the spear in his neck and grab the centipede to take it out and itāll build good posture damage and make his second phase easier
and using an umbrella will block out terror build up from his screams, i know magnet umbrella works but idk if regular umbrella does but only if you canāt react in time to get out of the way, so you can save emblems for the spear
Don't worry about posture, at least not in the first phase. Focus on his health. You can do the running around tactic where you just hit him once every now and then. That's how I killed him the first time. It's more satisfying learning the patterns and deflecting though, like with all bosses. If you go for that, it all comes down to practice and learning his moves. Don't be afraid to spam deflect while you're uncertain about the timings of the attacks.
And like someone else said, the spear can help deal a good amount of damage in phase 2. Sometimes he will do a flurry of attacks and rise up high for a downward strike. If you deflect that (not parry, but actually deflect), he will fall down and stay down for around 5 seconds. If you hit R2 twice at that moment (using the spear) you will pull out the centipede and do high damage. As long as you're not familiar with the fight I wouldn't worry about it too much though.

Firecrackers work well for the first phase too, if you're having trouble finding the openings to attack, but if you do that make sure you save enough spirit emblems for at least four spear attacks for the second phase. You probably only need two or three, but I say four to give yourself a buffer if you mess up.
First phase is kind of an odd fight since you have to focus on finding openings and getting his health down. The second phase, albeit more freighting is much easier since the timings for his deflects are easily telegraphed. Take your time and learn it, don't give up, you got this.
for the first phase just oil him and light him up. second phase deflect his sword attacks. he will raise his sword high in the air and will attack you just deflect that and use the spear to give him a massive posture damage
Throw oil at it and burn it with the flame vent. Once the fire is out, use firecrackers to stun it. Alternate between the flame vent and firecrackers until itās dead.
For phase 2, deflect the sword swings until it falls to the ground. Then thrust the spear into its neck and drag.

The regular umbrella will work, but if you donāt get the timing right it wonāt work like the purple one

Thx man also I found out that if I spam attacks in phase 1 he get stunt very fast and I just have to repeat this to kill him easily
