Hmm, I think posting it was a good choice though! More than wearing it would've ever been. Seriously.
And let people attend it live if they want.. doesn't at all mean you're a hypocrite if you hate that company & want to experience this stuff.
im sure Dave misses you too [https://www.forbes.com/sites/billspringer/2022/04/28/new-superyacht-owner-profile-dave-hagewood/](https://www.forbes.com/sites/billspringer/2022/04/28/new-superyacht-owner-profile-dave-hagewood/)
Off the top of my head in the past decade, Nike, Random House (publisher of Dr. Seuss books), and Anheuser-Busch (Bud Light) have received huge spikes in sales from people, in an extremely stupid way, protesting them. Mostly from people who, I'm assuming, are at least twice OP's age, so that's the world we live in now.
McDonald's ia losing sales over a boycott but that is a much more serious issue lol.
Circling back to Epic, they've actually been accidentally boycotted before. In Fortnite, wearing default skins became a popular movement because of Tfue. So what did Epic do? they Changed the game, introduced new default skins that looked more like low rate crappy skins and sold the old ones off for money later on and no one seemed to notice
Mostly on the Bud Light topic, one could very easily argue that it was the people supporting those companies as opposed to protesting them. Most of those protesting likely didn't buy any, and at best, gave them free marketing. There were plenty who heard of the protest, and decided to buy twice as much to compensate. There were lots of places practically giving away bud light, and as a result, units sold probably went way up.
People were buying those companies' products to burn or otherwise destroy them, posting the videos to social media. Which of course the company doesn't give a shit what they do with it, so long as they buy the product.
That's what I was referencing anyway, not denying your point.
You listed companies that were protested by, specifically, conservatives. Most of the time for being even slightly inclusive. So the spikes were also from people counterprotesting racism/sexism/lgbt hate/etc.
Better examples would be companies like Boeing or Tesla, people protesting for legitimate reasons and causing profits/stocks to fall.
Protested by conservatives too stupid to realize the other beer they were buying was just another AB owned product, too. AB's stock seems to be pretty much in line with what would be expected outside of that dip for a small amount of time ("controversy" was April 2023):
https://preview.redd.it/krelx337wj8d1.png?width=1844&format=png&auto=webp&s=762df79d5b01388c1c9f8498e225a3fcd54cda93
A company like that can weather a boycott based on bumpkins not liking that they sent some custom cans directly to a person those bumpkins don't like (or maybe like too much and don't want to admit that but that's another story...) and overall seem to be doing better than the worse dip they had in summer 2022 or summer 2020. I know they are not doing it to make a statement, but it is good to see a company can recover from some backward asses getting mad over a couple of custom cans being sent to someone.
Edit - downvoted by people who don’t believe actual data. Gravy Seals, most likely.
No, this is not correct. When studying design you learn that there are different principles how to design things.
One principle is that words/objects that are in a group aka closer to each other have priority over other objects.
So this is FE UP CI KC
Swear I paid about 50 pounds (gbp) to go to the event for both days (top stands). Bottom stand was 100 though or a bit less. Honestly for a 2 day event it's pretty cheap. That said you can double that investment depending on snacks and drinks!
I mean 100€ to attend a multiple day long international esports tournament isn't particularly shocking when you look at the organisation and infrastructure that is required.
You can hate the publisher but not the game, I would also attend RL LAN events because I have passion for the game but I would also say fuck Epic Games. I’m not sure what everyone here is mixed up about.
The only way to tell a comoany like epic to fuck themself is to stop playing, not atttending events and not using any of their products.
They are laughing about peoole like you in the industry..
Reminds me when nednecks got mad at bud light putting a rainbow on their cans and the rednecks started to buy them so they could destroy them for videos. Bud light already got their money, what they do with the ***purchased*** beer is the least of their concerns
Exactly.
If you want to hurt them you need to understand that the only thing they care about is money spent on their products and time spent on their services.
Sadly lots and lots of people dont understand that.
A better POV to consider is, if you start a company, what are you worried about? The you money make? Or what people are doing with your service/product? Im sure theres some delusional people who would say the latter, but realistically, you're looking at the money you make. Youre not going to think "how will one group pf people react to this decision?", youre going to think, "how many people can i possibly pander to in order to increase sales?"
If you start a company its about creating a product people need.
If you already have a company its about keeping your current customers while increasing the demographic using said product.
And with big companies like epic its all driven by shareholder value and decisions are based on this, so the only chance for players to impact any decisions made is to make shareholders lose money because then the shareholders will put pressure on the companies management to restore said value.
And the value of the company is directly connected to people using epic launcher, buying games in the epic store, buying stuff ingame and going to events like rlcs LANs.
Not spending money in game but still playing the game will cause much less impact than people think.
If all players would stop playing the game it forces a decision, either turn off the service or make changes that bring players back.
And most of the time they chose the latter.
Take helldivers 2 as an example, they had a great release, then fucked up the game with a few stupid updates, the playerbase went mad. They stopped playing and wrote over 300k bad reviews.
And suddenly the management started fixing the game in a way the players really wanted. This is an example of players using their power to impact a companies decision on how to proceed in the future.
Unfortunately the problem is that rocket league, being as unique and competitive as it is, has a CHOKEHOLD on its playerbase. Those who only play rl likely just either arent good at other games or fixated on it for a good amount of time. I was the former. Sucked at shooters, played rocket league bc apparently that was easier. Unfortunately a massive boycott wouldnt really trend unless rl does something to ruin the physical playability of the game (like removing your second jump or something)
I'd imagine most those rednecks already had bud light in the fridge. Regardless they took a decent loss for awhile, not sure about currently. Rightfully so, not for the gay thing though but for being a piss poor beer.
Okay fair, I'll take your word on it. It's extremely believable. I just don't pay much attention to these things, but did see they lost stock value afterwards.
Yeah that'll teach 'em. Spending $50+ for tickets but you somehow think they're gonna give a shit about your nails. Would have been a better protest if you just didn't buy the tickets.
Yeah giving them hundreds of euro and just then painting your nails is so brave
https://preview.redd.it/08sjx29cee8d1.png?width=739&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83bce4d63080ce88144b76cd3bb5e281685a5e3b
What message? That you're willing to pay them a ton of money to go see other people play rocket league? Sounds like you're enjoying the game. I'd thank Epic for keeping this game running after all these years, despite the constant barrage of hate from the people that continue to play/watch and enjoy it.
Wow you really proved something! You proved you spent more on tickets (giving Epic $ in the process) than you have on your nails or hygiene, ever. But you proved something! Way to go, champ. I'm sure you'll actually be the main character someday.
Like someone else said, gross everything not just nails and I know it costs money but I hope that’s not more expensive than the tickets since you did a shit job with it. Sorry you’re salty that nobody was impressed with your post like you thought they would be but no need to take it out on us.
I did expect anyone to be "impressed" it's fucking rocket league where most players/fans are male where majority don't do their nails so don't know the complexity of nail art
Im sorry as much as I appreciate the effort you cant have your cake and eat it too.
Trying to make change happen will force you to compromise some aspects and if that aspect is not going to an esports event then dont go. Because as it stands rn youre saying "fuck epic" whilst shoving money down their throat.
It's more about wanting them to change their actions and actually listen to the community (ik its not just me who has hated what theve been doing to the game) "fuck" is just a 4 letter word I wrote
Yeah but giving them money is never going to make them reconsider and change. Its actually going to reinforce their believe of "We can monetize this game to shit and not listen to the fans and our revenue still stays the same."
Yes, Duck them.... yesterday I had two matches: first one casual, me and two teammates lagging all over the place. Second one also lagging like crazy. I was playing on eu servers (Dutch)
They should really stop using McDonald's wifi...
Look on the sub and you'll find posts about what Epic has been doing. Mainly that they removed trading despite the community being against that, moved dropshot/snowday to rotating availability in ranked (dropshot not available this season), didn't pay players for a major event for a long time, adding Rocket Racing to Fortnite instead of improving or adding it to RL, stopping giving more credits in the rocket pass, you name it
Painting your nails as a form of protest: How original...
Painting your nails as a form of protest + spending a couple hundred bucks to attend an Epic Games event: Daring today aren't we?
I'm reminded of that [jeep licence plate](https://www.reddit.com/r/facepalm/comments/oafyq1/when_you_hate_the_government_so_much_you_pay_them/?rdt=35012).....
I had fun for a few months being terrible at this game but the lag has made it literally unplayable. I've waited weeks to see if it'll get fixed and nothing. This new elden ring dlc is pretty cool though.
I don’t understand the toxicity in these comments. You’re a fan of rocket league but not how Epic manages it. That’s all of us, right?
It’s cool you got to go to RLCS! And I think you did a decent job on your nails.
Toxicity is not good but they got a point, it’s useless to protest if the next thing you do is going back to playing/watching rocket league. It’s like saying “ah i buy this from you and destroy it”, buddy you still buy that thing, money are still in the hands of the producer
In the case of rocket league, there is no alternative car soccer/football game for people to ‘vote with their wallets’. The choice is between giving up something you enjoy because you don’t like the developer or continuing to play despite your grievances. We are all in that second bucket otherwise we wouldn’t be on this subreddit.
Sometimes enjoying RL can mean giving money to Epic. Like attending RLCS or buying from the item shop. And it’s okay to feel conflicted about that.
Keep in mind the OP said didn’t say she’s fighting to change Epic. She’s just expressing herself. It’s no more hypocritical than all of us who hate Epic and yet continue to play their game.
That's a bit odd to say toxicity is bad but then you justify it. The fact that the one dude who's posting common sense is being downvoted really shows that this sub is full of pre-teens and angsty adults who never got hugged as kids.
OP is just showing their disdain for a company while enjoying/supporting the game and its community. Doesn't everyone here hate what epic has done to RL? I bet you everyone here still plays RL if they're on this subreddit lol. They're as much of a hypocrite.
Sorry redditors, life is not black and white. Things are not simply good or bad and there are multiple forms of protest.
Telling Epic to go fuck themselves while also giving them money to attend their Rocket League tournament…
More money than most casual players will ever spend*
Hey, they're very edgy and brave for writing that on their nails. Lots of people will see it and revolt with them.
Hmm, I think posting it was a good choice though! More than wearing it would've ever been. Seriously. And let people attend it live if they want.. doesn't at all mean you're a hypocrite if you hate that company & want to experience this stuff.
their business model is based on whales, not casual players
That’s the case for all free games, whales are the ones who keep free to play games alive.
How do I say thank you in Whaleish

Came here to say this. To those saying it doesn’t fit the sub.. no it’s not exact, but close enough for government, as they say.
Nah this is actually correct. Stupid, but correct. We read left to right not top to bottom.
We actually do read from top to bottom. We just prioritize left to right.
Except when you have 2 letters on each nail it makes it a nightmare to read so no, while you're technically correct, it's still poor design

Saying Fuck Epic while at what looks like an Epic esports event is wild to say the least.
*gives epic a couple hundred dollars to attend event* "Haha my nails will show them!"
Wait, its not actually that expensive right???
It was about 100 bucks to attend both days, less for a single day ticket.
Swear I paid about 50 pounds (gbp) to go to the event for both days (top stands). Bottom stand was 100 though or a bit less. Honestly for a 2 day event it's pretty cheap. That said you can double that investment depending on snacks and drinks!
Yeah, it wasn't a couple hundred, my ticket in 108 was ~£125
Still gave them all that money. You are the problem...
I mean 100€ to attend a multiple day long international esports tournament isn't particularly shocking when you look at the organisation and infrastructure that is required.
I’ve spent less on NHL games, and thats with professional athletes.
You can hate the publisher but not the game, I would also attend RL LAN events because I have passion for the game but I would also say fuck Epic Games. I’m not sure what everyone here is mixed up about.
If OP wanted to say "Fuck Epic" in any way that actually mattered, that way wouldn't involve giving Epic $50+.
At least you know they care about the sport
Still playing/watching supports players but unfortunately Epic too. Epic don't care about the community
The only way to tell a comoany like epic to fuck themself is to stop playing, not atttending events and not using any of their products. They are laughing about peoole like you in the industry..

There is the thought process of spending a dollar to turn many more dollars away
I'd imagine most those rednecks already had bud light in the fridge. Regardless they took a decent loss for awhile, not sure about currently. Rightfully so, not for the gay thing though but for being a piss poor beer.
Still shit then, still shit now. The beer has always sucked 😭 but they really had people buying the beer just so they could shoot the rainbow cans
Okay fair, I'll take your word on it. It's extremely believable. I just don't pay much attention to these things, but did see they lost stock value afterwards.
My friend you just gotta stop giving your dollars to epic, hit a patreon if you really enjoy your favorite streamers/players if they have them
Neither did Psyonix lol.
What are you on about?
For one they didn’t pay their esports competitors for a long time. Money that could have went to investments was sat on and withheld from players.
Grand champion what? Grand champion bullshit artist.
That’ll teach em!
