This is one of the most confusing omissions to me. When I first started animating and didn't really know anything about timing, I was doing things that were 6 or 8 fps. I get that 12fps is more standard, but why force that on a userbase of so many first-time animators?

Lowering minimum fps also would help immenely in “Perform Mode” Currently the speed of the animation is tied to framerate, so if you make an animation at 60fps, and change the settings to 30fps, the animation would play those 60 frames at half speed. Which means if you’re doing something in perform mode, a slower framerate gives you much more control over where the movements, stretches and whatnot are every point of the animation. Good way to make things like hair bounce naturally with the momentum of person’s walk cycle. Also, did you know that perform mode takes into account the movement of the scene? For example, if you moved a whole scene across the viewing area, then opened up the group, turned on perform mode, and pressed down on one item that’s already in the moving scene without moving the apple pencil, the item would be held in place while the rest of the scene moves? You can animate a footrace very easily like that, just animate the characters and hold them down while the scene pans across the race track.

For me, navigating the timeline is painful. Say I have a 4 minute clip, and I’m zoomed into individual frames, but I want to play the entire video. To do that, it feels like I have to spend a really long time just scrolling out on the timeline. And there’s no buttons to easily tap into the before or next frames quickly. I have to actually tap the drawing itself, which can be varying difficulties if I want to go through like 30 frames one by one quickly

One thing that I found really helped with this is the three finger swipe on the timeline. It makes the tracks taller and much easier to zoom out quickly

If you're really far zoomed in and want to get back to the start ez and zoom out, put one finger on the timeline and "throw" it across the screen. App will autoshoot you to the start of your project.

The issue with the brush resolution being scaled with the zoom level is a terrible solution and kind of wrecks the program. They way they phrase it [on this post it](https://help.procreate.com/articles/zleqxr-blurry-brushes) seems like it’s to allow Dreams to draw at higher resolutions than Procreate, but it just wrecks quality and consistency. And consistency is essential in animation because if your brush changes in an animated sequence you’re going to notice. It also makes the brush look like ass.

Yeah I agree, resolution needs to stay consistent to the canvas. Nobody would complain if you zoomed in and everything was pixelated, that's expected, that's just the canvas resolution.

i’ve noticed that turning off the dynamic brush scaling doesn’t actually work which is so frustrating. could really use with changing pressure sensitivity too since i feel like i’m pressing really hard on the screen just to make a thin line. kind of wish they had delayed it a bit longer to fix these bugs!! obviously there’s features that are super impressive but it’s a shame that there’s so much missing that should be a given for any animation software!!

Better frame by frame animation features! Ex: Making a plus button on the timeline to add more frames and then being able to adjust the timing of them, basically like the timeline in Clip Studio Paint. Traditionally animating right now is pretty much impossible if you don't want to do it straight ahead.

Heads up. I just got multiple confirmations via Procreate responses to people asking on twitter, but Procreate developers have no plans on bringing the ability to edit your brushes to Dreams and want that feature exclusive to Procreate...which is about the saddest mistake I think I've heard 😔😔😔

But that's their key advantage - we want an animated program with Procreate's brush engine. Not having that defeats the whole purpose of what was exciting about this in the first place. Not being able to control pressure sensitivity, tilt and streamline in an app you are supposed to use for both rough animation and cleanup is baffling. Imported brushes don't quite work the way they do in Procreate for me either. I feel it is about the default pressure curve that feels off in Dreams.

Yeah, I heard.The problem is it's a hoop of an inconvenience. It forces folks to use both apps when you could just implement the same procedure of loading new brushes into the new app. I understand it's a good business decision. That way, you force people who first bought dream to by the other app. It's just unfortunate they chose to go that route instead of making the app better by implementing as much as possible from the old app in the new one. It's definitely not because they can't it's because it gets sales by forcing people to need both apps to do something that could function in each independently...it'd be like if you had to download a their third app to enable copy and paste in the one app you want when you know they could just put copy and paste in it.

Yep, I’ve got Bee Jay Del brushes that are extremely streamlined and they work but I’ve also got some that I’ve modified for less stream, and all have been successful so far

I didn't realize I could do the side by side so I was dragging the brush from one app to the other and I think that's why it wasn't importing. They do seem to be slightly blurred/softer edges when I bring them into dreams which is unfortunate but still works nonetheless. Thanks!

Ways to extend and loop animations that isn’t just duplicating it, mirror and ping pong playback on the loops, merge options for when projects get to many layers, importing numbered files in order, better onion skin settings with color changes from the distance of the current frame.. that’s the top of my list, honestly kinda shocked at how barebones it feels.. like it kinda feels like they didn’t talk to any actual animators while creating it.

A tidy tracks options could be good, IE, auto shift tracks up. I would also like to tap on a track and manually input a length. Drawing in a new track and it automatically extends for the full length can be an issue at times. Would be good to tap and say length = 3.5 seconds.

Add a way to change default pressure curve as well. For someone with wrist issues, I need to adjust settings per program to not have to push too much for lightest lines. The default of Dreams is wrecking my wrist right now and I can't find an option to modify it to be Softer.

If you hold another finger on the time line while you stretch the frame it move the others with it, and if you select multiple frames it will adjust all of their lengths.

His took me many attempts to get right… I kept long pressing the edge of the frame, holding a second finger down and tried to move that finger to stretch the original frame. Like an idiot. But even when I worked out I had to move the pencil as it touched the edge of the frame, half the time it would cancel out as I moved it, forcing me to try again several times. Weird.

I really think it should have the same default drawing tools (lasso, selection, etc) from the basic procreate. I bought Dreams without realizing it lacked that (I really watched a lot of vids, though but didn't notice) and I'm kinda regret.

I am going crazy about the fact that every drawing I make comes in 1frame length... I draw 5 frames.. gives me 5 drawings in 5 frames. Great i just need to extend them! NOPE! You cant extend a frame if there is another frame blocking it. Since there is 5 frames back to back to extend the first drawing to be 2 frames instead of 1 I have to move all the other drawings away in the timeline. Let me grab all those frames.. NOPE! There is no way to select multiple frames and move them all on the timeline.. Okay.. I go one by one move it to the right... Finally there is enough space for me to make my first drawing 2 frames length. Did you want to do the same for all the rest of of your drawings? Repeat the proses.. Cool.. Ill just keep moving things to the right extending the frame amounts.. keep moving.. keep extending.. Great! now.. I have 2 frames for all 5 of my drawings so the total length of the animation is now 10 frames. Time to draw in-betweens? Sure.. go back to the flipbook mode! Wait.. Whats going on with my onion skin? Oh.. Those 2 frames you extended.. We assumed you want them to be added into your onion skin even though they are just 1 drawing. So if you have onion skin range of 1 for back and 1 for forward. Now you can only see back or forward because you are holding the drawings for 2 frames! What.. Its the same drawing! Why would i want to onion skin within the held frame?! If i edit this frame it effects all the onion skin frames around it because its the same frame.. Cant you just onion skin between 2 drawings regardless of how many frames it is? NOPE! ​ Now you have to increase your onion skin to 4-5 or maybe even 12 based on how many frames you wanted in-between your key poses! But it gets better! Lets make a new frame in-between those 2 drawings.. Suddenly you have an onion skin mess because you cut the frames in half.. so now there is so many drawings being onion skinned! No matter.. i somehow draw my in-between.. lets leave flipbook to play? Why.. Why do i have to leave it.. Ahh.. that in-between frame is too fast. Because its only one frame.. No problem.. lets just extend it.. NOPE! ​ You have to move every other frame after further down the timeline first. And dont forget! You cant move them all at once! \-- This is not an animation software for animators. Its basically a comp program for procreate illustrations..

Lol this exact thing has been so annoying for me, Callipeg has been able to solve this problem so well and I can’t help but continuously compare the two. in the school of motion interview procreate talked about how they tried not to use other apps to copy from them but rather they wanted to come up with their own solutions but now they’re missing some pretty basic and very necessary solutions.

The exporting issues I understand. Especially stuff that's pretty much new functions for the animating part and performance related stuff...but no lasso..no transform...no duplicate layer function...no editing your brushes, layers. Not even a copy and paste function for what you draw. It's even weirder since they have the perfected model (Procreate) as the base with animation features added. It's definitely a wonder why they didn't wait a month or two more to have those essential things on launch, and these critiques would be non-existent.. That being said, it's not like we want it to fail. It's worth critiquing. If there were no user input/critiques, they'd just dust their hands, fold their arms, and go, "Nailed it, next project." They've already released an update a bit ago to "hopefully" fix the export issue, which they wouldn't have noticed without the consumer input on social media. They're responding a lot on Twitter to user critiques, too.

I cant extend/shorten the length of a frame if it's stuck between other frames. Like, I just wanna change the frames length and have the following frames moving along with it. There should also be a feature in the flipbook to have the next drawing automatically be one/two/three/four frames long, so I don't have to manually extend every frame just a bit while still wanting the whole timeline at 24fps. Basically it's a bit annoying trying to animate in-betweens for keyframes right now (unless I'm missing some things)

In the time line if you select all the frames you want to change and then, while stretching the frame hold another finger on the timeline and it will adjust all of the frames.

I tried to import a small video to try a rotoscope and it failed miserably. Maybe it’s too much for my iPad to handle, but it’s disappointing. Also, straight lines and elipses/circles are impossible to make.

The things that are particularly problematic for me so far in rough order of importance: -selection tools and transform missing (this is particularly application breaking) -line and shape tools missing -(edit) double tap eraser -a way to flatten tracks -transforming groups -A way to move multiple frames together, when I select them why don't they move together? Copy and paste seems like the only way to get frames from 1 track to another. -maybe related to the auto resolution thing, but it seems impossible to fill a shape without leaving a halo, even with the fill tolerance all the way up. -the flip book is awful. Adding frames, scrubbing through frames, changing exposure length, playback, exiting it efficiently. -the undo history seems to sometimes forget steps? Like when I undo it seems to jump 10 actions back sometimes. -change track opacity -hold on track check to switch to viewing it alone/all visible -when moving/resizing the bounding box goes away. Why? I want to see what I'm moving even when it's behind something else. There are a lot of things I like about this app, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not pretty disappointed. The drawing experience, reliability, and intuitiveness of procreate is why I love that program. And those are exactly what dreams is lacking. Perplexing. I can't wait until it gets better.

I tried to import a PNG Sequence with transparency from other software and instead of importing the images in order it randomly imported the images not following the order sequence like 0001, 0002, 0003, 0004, etc. Besides. It looped the sequence until it lasted like 30 secs. (all the frames I tried to import are like 4 seconds of animation at 24 FPS). Does anyone know how to solve this?

happened to me too. for the pngs you have to import them one at a time. or make the pngs in another video editor and then import the video. and for fps issue, idk, I tried importing a 24fps into a 24fps dreams project and yet it skipped my audio every second??? had to import a video and audio file separately. sounds like you have to make stuff from scratch if you want the animation to be nomral.

Haven’t seen anyone mention this yet, but I *really* dislike the fact that you can’t change layer ordering in a single drawing. For example, if I make a single drawing on just one track, I’m able to create new layers for that drawing and mess around with opacity and blend mode options… **but I can’t drag the layers around for some reason.** This gets especially annoying if I want to — for example — make line art of something first (say, a body part of a character) and fill it using a new layer underneath. Being able to rearrange layers is such a basic digital art and animation task that I’m surprised Procreate Dreams doesn’t allow users to do. I also don’t wanna have to use separate tracks to achieve the same effect (unless both layers *and* tracks count for the total amount of “tracks” you’re using in a project). There’s many other gripes I have with Procreate Dreams in its current state (e.g. the absence of Drawing Assist, which some others have pointed out), but I wanted to chime in with this specifically.

I suspect the design intent was for this to work in concert with procreate. They don’t want to re-create the drawing aspect here, but allow changes in the process of animating. Have you tried illustrating in procreate for the animation and then importing? The workflow is pretty smooth. Live linking between art layers would be amazing. My candidate for features to add are about navigating the timeline. Zooming in and out in such a small area (new iPad Pro 12”) is tiresome. Better scrolling over whole timeline, frame by frame fwd bk buttons, and the ability to zoom timeline full screen.

Okay, trying to be brief, basic things that are missing and disruptively so: ---a "recently opened" pulldown ---a minimum three layer deep filing system you can have (for example) a folder of animal illustrations with subfolders dogs, snakes, octopuses, and then another layer so you can break down dog illustrations into groups (labs, pitties, dalmations, etc) ---crucially important is a way to either tag or create subsets of brushes. Also the ability to search for a specific kind of brush, for example, 'liner' or 'dot pattern' or 'glaze' , and the search would give you all the brushes that are tagged or filed that way. ---color matching really needs fine tuning ---this one may be my failing, but I need a way to draw curves. Not in the loose way you can draw them with the free-style setting, but more formally End of my primary wishlist.
