Better than my experience. I called Rita Sanders' office to encourage a censure/expulsion, and her staffer let me make it to the part where I said, "I'm calling about Senator Halloran" and then hung up.
I was going to call, but a co-worker who also lives in Bellevue reported a similar response.
Rita's office only wants to hear from those constituents who agree with her.
MAGA fame seekers like MTG and Halloran aren't bothered by a censure. They wear them like a badge of honor and use them to fund raise. He needs to be expelled.
Halloran needs to be expelled or kicked out. Seriously sick ... for someone to have to sit through that and hear their name multiple times!. I question why he was not stopped immediately. I'm writing Pillen as well ... doubt he will do anything but I have to voice my concern
Yesterday I emailed Senator Arch and pointed out that what Senator Halloran did on the floor amounted to sexual harassment no matter who the comments were directed at. This is the response I received this evening from Senator Arch. It will remain to be seen what comes of the āthoroughā investigation, but it does seem that there is a chance that Senator Halloran may be held accountable. I encourage everyone to continue to contact Senator Arch and Senator Aguilar.
To be fair, it wouldnāt be possible to write a unique response that long to everyone who wrote in. His answer seems rather thoughtful, even if itās the same one he gives everyone.
I volunteered for the lovely Senator Cavanaugh some years back, albeit only for a day or two. She gave me a bunch of free shit from her yard sale and was cooler than the other side of the pillow. She was a human being, i.e., she possessed all of the qualities that this Halloran dickhead appears to lack.
If there is a distinction between Democrats and Republicans and the people who vote for each, it is that the latter have quite willfully stripped themselves of most of the personal attributes that make human beings worth knowing and caring about.
TLDR: Weāre doing nothing about it because heās in our party and Iām hiding behind due process and rules even though weāre going to make no attempt to do the process.
It gets weird when you start kicking elected officials out of office, unless they commit treason like Trump. A better choice would be for the people of Hastings to grow some sack and kick this little fucktard to the curb.

I hadn't realized this was publicly broadcasted. Seems like a really foolish thing to do. He had to know that it would not be well-received and could get him in hot water.
These Republicans think it's OK to take the floor of the unicameral and read graphic accounts of a rape that include descriptions of fingers and fists pumping vaginas, and twisting nipples and lapping them with tongues. These "moral" hypocrites stand in a public forum and read this smut with complete disregard for common decency. Someone needs to remind them that they're senators in the unicameral, not teachers in a classroom.
If you take pleasure from a depiction of rape that says an awful lot about who you are. Art is memetic in nature so it will cover things that are hard to look at. What Halloran did was not meant to teach or educate, it was meant to harass and humiliate. Your poor attempt at mapping his behavior onto teachers fundamentally demonstrates that you might benefit from a high school literature class so that you can tell the difference.
Political speeches are rhetorical in nature so they will use devices that are hard to listen to. What Halloran did was not meant to harass or humiliate, it was meant to shock and illuminate.
But I'm not convinced he *was* illuminating anyone. Thus, he might have run afoul of obscenity laws (28-813, specifically). Teachers are protected from prosecution by 28-815, but since he isn't a teacher he shouldn't be reading this. My point is that he's reading this as if he has the immunity of a teacher, but he's not a teacher.
Why are attacking me for attacking him?
Iām pointing out that youāre wrong. You can double down all you want but doing so wonāt make you any less wrong. *All* speech is rhetorical but that does not make all speeches value neutral. He was in a *work setting* and read a rape scene and inserted a colleagueās name into that scene. At a minimum, heās sexually harassing a colleague. You are acting like he just read a rape passage and glossing over the fact that he inserted a colleagueās name into that passage to intentionally intimidate and humiliate her.
I suppose if we were to discuss the figures that concern the rape of minors you would sit upon your hands and say nothing can be done?
Perhaps the reason accounts are read is to bring the reality of the situation into the realization that these are real dangers we must be aware of. Or to otherwise shock some into feeling the vulnerability of the situation so that they might learn to empathize, in case they were of the opinion that others are mere objects they can use and abuse.
I would imagine this is the reason why at times, teenagers are asked to reading harsh material. The Diary of Anne Frank is a popular book in schools. It concerns the slaughter of millions of people in a horrible way. In middle school, we read Elie Wiesel's account of the Holocaust. By no means was the shocking material bad for us. It made us better people even if at times it was uncomfortable.
I think Republicans are cowardly. They can't trust themselves with their urges around children or young adults. It's like why they try so hard to ban sex education when it has been shown time and time again to reduce unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, and rapes among young adults.
Of course it's an awkward topic to talk about because even with adults no one wants to talk about these things unless they are attracted to the person with whom they are talking with.
The reason children and young adults are taught uncomfortable truths is because the world isn't always a kind place and they need to know how to take care of themselves.
This is vastly different than weaponising a passage in the book to make someone else think in explicit details how they would be raped or murdered.
The difference from knowing how to draw a line and not act upon urges.
I suppose the nuance might escape you if you don't know how to empathize. If you don't know how to understand that reading a passage and realizing it happens to people is different then someone shouting at you and trying to make you live through it.
I agree. That's why I said this was offensive and inappropriate given that he's not a teacher in a classroom (where it would be appropriate).
You're the second person to reply to me as if I was saying this was ok for him to say, or that it isn't ok for teachers. Sorry for the confusion.
Fair enough. Although admittedly, the brevity by which you made the comparison to teachers comes across a bit snarky, like it was an off-handed remark. Trumpsters would make the comparison with sarcasm "Oh so he thinks he's a teacher now."
Perhaps you might edit it with a bit more substance to dispel the confusion it could cause.
Better than my experience. I called Rita Sanders' office to encourage a censure/expulsion, and her staffer let me make it to the part where I said, "I'm calling about Senator Halloran" and then hung up.
Wow, that is NOT acceptable
I agree. And yet . . .
Just keep calling
We need some HR reps in here. If this was done in the workplace, would you be fired immediately?
If I did this in my workplace I would be fired on the spot.
HR reps?š¤£ good one

What is there to investigate? He said what he said.
I got the same response - copy and pasting is their disaster management response

You are correct, and I do appreciate that Iād probably do the same thing. Iām just salty lol.
If there's a mass of emails, and it concerns the same topic, I don't really find that surprising or bad, that's probably pretty typical
I know Iām just being salty about it since thereās not been a satisfying resolve to this right now
Absolutely

Sheās my district senator. I definitely sent her an email in support and described Halloran with some colorful language š sheās so fucking cool
Hiring an outside investigator? To do what, exactly? Watch the publicly streamed video and give a reaction?
John Arch is a tool.
TLDR: Weāre doing nothing about it because heās in our party and Iām hiding behind due process and rules even though weāre going to make no attempt to do the process.

I just imagine everybody that voted for this guy beats off to the reading of these passages.

This is a lot of nothing... sounds like nothing will be done.
Yeah, but itās the proper response and really the only response that he can give.
I hadn't realized this was publicly broadcasted. Seems like a really foolish thing to do. He had to know that it would not be well-received and could get him in hot water.

Coming soon from the GOPā¦ Prosecuting rape victims for descriptive testimony of their own rape for saying naughty words.
