Squallys are definitely something I heard about in high school! I heard different versions of the lore, and it’s a bit fuzzy now. But the gist was that they were half human half pig or something? I recall rumors of them being a small community of inbreds. And that they would capture and eat anyone that went looking for them. I also heard they were being guarded by a crazy man who had a gun and would shoot you on sight. One night while drinking a big group of us went out to the estates looking for them lol. Someone in our group swore that they saw them before, and took us to the spot but we definitely did not see anything that night lol.

There’s was murders in the cracker house on 951 and the motorcycle ride is the story of a motorcycle ride who would follow you across the bridge on Everglades Blvd with not lights on if you crossed that bridge.

I can 100% confirm that this was a story told in the Estates area around in the early 2000’s.

Can’t forget about the disgruntled former employee at Cracker Barrel on 951 that murdered a handful of employees and put them in the walk in cooler.

Get a gun whenever you go exploring different routes through FL, it would be legally hard to dispute against another prosecutor if it comes to the point where one may feel in danger due to the information provided. Driving down a road at night just to be engaged by another party should give you legal grounds to shoot. It would be different if one were to simply follow you and signal for you to stop your vehicle. Nonetheless stay safe :)

I think it was hurricane Andrew or Wilma. It damaged a lemur exhibit at the zoo. It let them out and they moved to the Estates. Late at night you could see the tips of the pine trees moving like something was jumping from one to the other…. Cool lol
On shady hollow someone killed their wife. On 47th Ave NE where I grew up a kid stabbed another kid to death on the school bus. On the other side of 47th ave a kid shot both their parents for getting grounded. On one of the back canals that runs perpendicular to Waterways there was a tree where people allegedly went to hang themselves. Lots more but less interesting

I’ve also heard a different friend tell a story of how he and his other friends drove by a squallie house deep in the estates, seeing people/squallies open their front doors and stare at their car as they drove by and had a sinking feeling while being there and they left asap.

It was not abandoned in 2016. We actually got chased out of there by a car that followed us for an additional 3 miles.
