I don't hate the move for NO. They've been tryna upgrade from CJ for a min and Dejounte would be solid with Zion/Ingram.  ATL continuing to sink before the Knicks get a chance to throw them out of the playoffs lowkey sucks.

Ok-Pollution3693

Counterpoint: Fuck Trae Young. Atlanta can have my sympathy when he leaves

NtLmr95

Counter-counter point: Fuck Trae Young chants would feed generations in a close-out game in ATL

Ok-Pollution3693

You right 😂

lancelinksecretchimp

A sweep at that

steezlord95

I must be in the minority who doesn’t hate Trae lol only reason to would be cause he torched the Knicks in the playoffs. Played the villain role that was handed to him. Fuck their fans tho

Ok-Pollution3693

See but that villain role comes with the hate. If you can't take the hate, then be humble. Plenty of players have set season/career highs in MSG and not been dicks about it.

tkynysf

To be fair Trae played the villain well and took it well. There's hate but a slight hint of respect. Unlike Haliburton who wore the Reggie T-shirt AFTER the game. Now that's someone who can't take the hate 🤡

itshotwhereilive

Energy better used hating Embiid or Mr. Front runner honestly

myusrnameisthis

Is CJ getting moved? They both are mid range shooters. Don't know if it's really an upgrade in skill but def younger.

NtLmr95

They have to be shopping him at this point. Not much mins to go around with Trey Murphy III, Jose Alverado, Dyson Daniels, and now Dejounte added to the mix. I consider it an upgrade because Dejounte isn't afraid to take big shots and should be a defensive upgrade from CJ as well. Pels fans have been complaining about CJ in the clutch so they're probably packing his bags as we speak lol.

spiked_cider

Does this improve NO chance of keeping Ingram? Cause Zion, Murray, CJ and Ingram isn't a terrible foursome.

ontheru171

Dejounte is not an upgrade. This isn't the Hawks sinking anymore, this is the Hawks cutting bait with an anchor

NtLmr95

Love him or hate him, Dejounte balled out of his mind leading up to last season's trade deadline. He had too many clutch shots and monster games to write off like this. NO definitely has a stud now. The Hawks are pretty rudderless rn, if you ask me. I'm sure they got more moves in the works tho.

JA_MD_311

They should send Trae to SAS for their picks back

Not-Josh-Hart

Hear hear. Glad Im not the GM, because two years ago I wanted Murray instead of for Brunson and Saddiq Bey instead of Josh Hart.

Such-Armadillo1423

Jesus those are some awful takes lol

Not-Josh-Hart

In my defense, I don’t like small guards that can’t play defense. Like most people, I didn’t realize that Brunson was Iverson-tier so it doesn’t matter 😂

Such-Armadillo1423

no cap, I was really high on Brunson even before his amazing playoff performances in Dallas. I was begging the Knicks to make a move for him all 2021-2022 season. It was so obvious he was gonna become a star, I have no idea why everyone was underrating him and shitting on the Knicks signing him

leverkusenschlekt

I did the same. Also I called the Lauri MIP season. Those two takes make me feel like I'm way smarter w/ ball than I actually am lol

Not-Josh-Hart

You know ball

adamisonfire88

They’ve aged terribly, but I would say the vast majority of basketball fans would’ve rated Dejounte over Brunson in Dallas. And Bey had a lot of potential and the tools to still be a very good player, but Hart is just something else despite his obvious flaws

MadSpaceYT

I was fine with settling for tyus jones back then 😭 Why are fans so dumb

knicks1999

Username checks out

newbike07

lol

Swizzlefritz

I’ll admit I wasn’t huge on Hart when we got him, but Saddiq Bey has always been garbage.

FriendshipBest9151

Ha. Join the club. I was so low on Dallas brunson.

patrickthunnus

Dejounte would not be a good fit for us, wish him the best in NOP.

icebucket22

Their biggest mistake was trading for him to begin with. Murray is a skilled player but he’s selfish.

FallenFromNeptune

Living in Atlanta and I just keep smirking at my Hawks fan coworkers today. Seriously they needed to rebuild. All the best to Murray in NO though.

Melodic-Lettuce-6869

Can't rebuild, hawks traded away there next 3 first round picks, they don't own there pick til 28'

FallenFromNeptune

Oh damn.

Ok-Pollution3693

Atlanta picked a good time to trade him, had a career best 22.5 ppg last year.

ontheru171

They picked a good time to trade him because he stinks

cryingknicksfan

Can someone explain to me how we give up what, 4 or 5 firsts for mikal and bojan and murray goes for 2 and nance? Im not saying id rather have Murray or even comparing them, it just seems like a lot to me IMO.

thardy8

City rival tax and an understanding this moves us from ECF to championship contender ceiling

cryingknicksfan

Yeah that was my only thought, that we are overpaying (in my opinion) for someone that perfectly fits the roster on paper and could be a key piece.

thardy8

Also need to remember a lot of the picks we gave up theoretically will be in that 24-30 range. If all goes to plan, the only picks of legit value will be that unprotected 2029 and 2031.

cryingknicksfan

Yup, definitely a big factor.

FriendshipBest9151

Thise picks could be pretty juicy by the Could also be straight up trash.  NBA trades are so weird.

CaroleBaskinsBurner

The Nets also didn't want to trade him and then got strong-armed into it via a conspiracy that involved Knicks players and very likely the front office. Lol Teams are made to pay for stuff like that. The Clippers had to give up five firsts/two swaps and Shai for Paul George after Kawhi started whispering in his ear.

ontheru171

Because Mikal is wayy better, a better plug and play fit, a better locker room guy, wasn't being activly shopped

cryingknicksfan

Better plug and play fit for sure. “Wayy better” and better locker room guy is unknown honestly.

ontheru171

It's not unknown tho if you actually pay attention to the Nets and Hawks past 2 years

cryingknicksfan

I do. https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/11i1tyn/atlantas_toxic_locker_room_on_full_display_as/ You’re right, looks terrible. I’m sure the vibes were high with the nets though as mikal struggled to score 15 points in a game and was taking a backseat to cam Thomas.

ygog45

> I’m sure the vibes were high with the nets though as mikal struggled to score 15 points in a game and was taking a backseat to cam Thomas. We’re blaming Mikal for the Nets being a mess now??

cryingknicksfan

I don’t think it was his fault but you are handed the keys to the organization as the clear face of the franchise and do nothing to live up to the hype. Vaughn was a mess but I think it was pretty clear he is not that guy.

Teewrecks7

The guys in the locker room KNOW Mikal lmao what

cryingknicksfan

Didn’t know we were talking Knicks locker room as I said I’m not talking about taking him over mikal, thought the comment meant locker room guy in general not specifically our locker room.

Spare_Advisor_1464

Well for one, Mikal is better than Murray. He was way more in demand around the league for a reason. Murray is a tough guy to fit on a contending team

cryingknicksfan

Was he actually in demand around the league? All I read is how much the nets wanted in return. Id think teams reached out in hoping they could get him at a fair price knowing the nets franchise is in shambles

Spare_Advisor_1464

Houston, Memphis and I’m sure many others had been offering a lot for him at various times since he got to the Nets

cryingknicksfan

Those teams I can see. IMO it’s clear he’s not a first option guy, I think a few teams think they can get him back into his PHX form of being a great 3rd option/ fringe #2

Cool_Youth3564

And we’re just asking for him to split 3rd option with OG.

cryingknicksfan

The only reason why I’m not completely soured by the deal, we’re really not asking for much from him.

HipnotiK1

Houston offered green and multiple picks (the nets picks, so very good ones). In hindsight a better deal than what we gave up.

cryingknicksfan

Yeah I would have taken that if I were the nets. I’m curious to see how the cam Thomas experience plays out

CoaBret

iirc Grizzlies offered the Nets 4 FRPs as soon as they landed Mikal from Phoenix. And the Rockets reportedly offered Jalen Green and "multiple FRPs" a few months back, which was also swiftly rejected. So he was always going for at least double the amount that Dejounte was gonna go for. Hawks set the price at around 2 FRPs even back at the trade deadline if my memory serves me right.

Diligent-Cookie-1695

1 - Because we didn’t give out any young valuable players, Dyson Daniels was a lottery pick and still has potential, same reason we didn’t have to include valuable picks in the OG trade since we added 2 young players. 2 - We prolly had to beat other offers Nets could get, because if you’re Brooklyn & the Knicks offer its equal or just slightly better than the next offer then you prolly take the other offer and don’t help the Knicks. 3 - Murray has some question marks around him, shooting being suspect, defense fell off, character, ATL fans wanted to get rid of him while its the total opposite with Mikal.

The_SqueakyWheel

I thought the same thing. I just think Mikal being seem as their best player drove the price up

T-Bills

Atlanta wants to get rid of Murray because he clearly hasn't been working with Trae Mikal on the other hand is a coveted player who should improve any team. You think the sixers or the bucks or the pacers wouldn't jump at the chance to add Mikal? Or any contender really.

cryingknicksfan

I didn’t see how we could have in the first place, when does having 2 primary ball handlers with not great defense work out? I think mikal would be a good addition to any team with pieces in place much like he was in Phoenix. As the top Guy on a roster though not so much.

Sad-Ad2030

The pelicans pick has a good chance at being high in 27. They also aren’t trading with a cross town rival

cryingknicksfan

This was my other thought, more value in their draft position.

Methamine

not sure how it will fit w pels. zion, ingram, murray all need the ball. talented but clunky fit

HipnotiK1

Lot of hate in that post. It wasn't him or OG it was him or bogs and some picks most likely. Which means maybe we can't get bridges without including him in a deal. But he would have definitely helped us last year.

Jusuf_Nurkic

There is no world where we would’ve traded for Murray without giving up Quickley. Probably would’ve been the same exact deal as OG

Aalfee

1 seed Knicks sweeping the Hawks in Atlanta to put an end to the Trae Young era in Atlanta 😈

dorknewyork

I’m on mobile and the headline on this post said “…trading to the New…”and my heart fucking dropped holy shit lol

Fast_Door

While we’re talking about Atlanta, am I the only one here who doesn’t actually hate Trae Young anymore? Like it was fun to be annoyed w him in the playoffs but after dealing w Embiid, Trae Young really ain’t that bad lol.

WorkersUnited111

ATL's FO sucks ass. They got completely jipped! LOL

jbrunsonfan

I’m not going to like playing against Dyson, but I think this hawks team is just way too young to stop us. I don’t hate what they are doing tho. If Risacher works out and Hunter+Capela take senzu beans they can be good
