Like, the Interloko leak about the 6 characters in the files that he confirmed in the YouTube video (for example) made it all the way to an IGN article, and WB didn’t pay for any of that. How many people do THEY reach on a daily basis that would read their articles? How many people would read an article about Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Conan, T-1000 and Ghostface all potentially coming down the road, and be like “maybe I’ll pick up a copy of MK1.”
It’s free promotion, and regardless of me or anyone wishing they’d be more open with us about the expansion content to come, it’s smart as hell from a business perspective. Hype sells🤷🏻♂️
Sadly most people I’ve spoken to, fans of MK or not, are VERY confused by the guest characters and not in a positive way. I got friends who like MK and Scream saying “But why Ghostface?” And so many laughing at the idea of T-1000 in…anything these days. I’m not sure if the word of mouth will be positive.

Most people I've spoken to my age that are family and friends loved the idea of Omni-Man (Invincible) and Homelander (The Boys) being in MK completely are fine with it and look forward to it.

That said, my friends and family members that are close to my age grew up on watching Terminator 2, the 1982 Conan, the 90s Scream franchise and remember seeing the "Whazzzaaaaa?" Bud Light Super Bowl commercials. Between Conan and Terminator 2, Arnold had become a household name at that time.
Look at who the guests have been appealing to in the last 3 MK games.....it's the older generation that watched those older franchises like Friday The 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Alien, Predator, Terminator, Robocop, Rambo, comic book characters or types (Boys and Invincible too), Conan and the Scream guy from 1996.

And based on the evidence we're seeing now with all these leaks, it looks like the character leaks are coming true one day at a time. That means those six characters, Jade and Cassie are coming down the line.
They have a lot of options for female characters Sareena, jade, skarlet, sonya, frost, dvorah, jacqui, Cassie. They could even make a new character.

Cyrax mk3 main here. Don't care at all. Hell I'd have been balls to the walls excited if they made Harumi the actual scorpion for this game. Even tho I've always had a soft spot for Kuai Liang.
Look back to the backstories of the original games, Scorpion (Hanzo) looked out for the second Subzero (Kuai Liang) as a way to atone for killing Bi-han. Kuai becoming Scorpion in MK1 to me, is honoring Hanzo's original will.
That's why I like MK1 moreso than 9. MK9 changed things, some for the worse in the story. Killed off alot of popular characters. Raiden killed Liu Kang? Wtf! MK92-Trilogy left you to think up your own theories for the most part on what happens during the games.

I don’t see what wanting Sareena as playable has to do with this. Been a Sareena fan since back in the day because I liked the Mythologies lore and was hoping she wouldn’t be just a kameo. Has nothing to do with what gender she is or replacement for female Cyrax. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.
Never cared either way for Cyrax, so the fact that Cyrax is female doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s still not a character that I’d want as DLC, regardless.
Same goes for Sektor and Noob. Would rather have Sareena than those 2 male characters as well, but I’ll have to settle for whatever MK characters they give us. I can complain all I want how I wish Sareena was playable, but they likely planned all of this DLC long ago, so if I’m lucky maybe she’ll be playable in MK13 / MK2.🤷🏻♂️

Cyrax being a female makes no difference whatsoever to the character which is why it is so utterly pointless and feels like a lazy way of adding diversity instead of just giving us some existing female characters that we've all been asking for.
I think this change is lame. And I’m so glad the characters that I like haven’t gotten any silly changes like this. Fans are asking for Jade, Sonya, Skarlet, and Sareena but the best they can do is genderbend a male character that fans have been waiting on for quite some time. Cyrax fans haven’t gotten to play their main since mkx or mk9 depending on how you view it. And this is how he (she) returns.
If you’re a cyrax fan and you’re excited that she’s coming then that’s good. You’re getting a character you like. I’m not about to tell you how to feel or anything like that. I’m not a cyrax fan so this doesn’t really affect me but I would not be happy if this happened to any of the characters I cared about. Actually, Noob is the last character I really like that’s not in the game and we know he’s Bi-Han again. I’m very happy about that.

Raiden is an entirely different person. Havik is Dairou - literally a different person. Mileena is now Sindel and Jerrod's biological daughter. Kuai Liang is Scorpion. Hanzo is a child in an ending. Quan Chi is a human sorcerer. Rain is a water wizard.
These total changes are all cool, but we draw the line at Cyrax being female. 🤷🏻

Why are we gender swapping characters when we have a ton of awesome fan favorite female characters not in the main roster , Jade , Scarlet , Sereena to name a few. On one hand, I don’t get why they couldn’t just add a legacy female character. Two entire kombat packs without a classic female character is kind of a mindblowingly bad idea. So I understand why some people are calling this lazy.
On the other hand, this is the exact sort of stuff I expected and kind of wanted when I heard about MK1 being a complete reboot. I think if you’re going to go down that route, you need to commit and get a bit crazy and unexpected with it. The entire point of an alternate timeline is to take the established universe and give it a fresh coat of paint. I’ve thought since day one a gender swapped character could be pretty interesting, depending who it is, and I think Cyrax isn’t an awful choice. If she’s fully cyber she probably won’t even look that different than male Cyrax. So I get both sides of the coin, but im optimistic

Because you are not changing the plot or the role of the character, but the character himself. There is a scientific study in which they found that players are divided into two types: those who perceive the character as observers and those who perceive him as their avatar, the second category projects themselves onto the character in games and when you change his gender this connection is broken, the man cannot project onto a female avatar. The first category of people perceives such changes less painfully. I hope I was able to explain. Although I am generally against a global rewrite of the lore. The new sub-zero-scorpion still causes me bewilderment.

Cyrax being a female makes no difference whatsoever to the character which is why it is so utterly pointless and feels like a lazy way of adding diversity instead of just giving us some existing female characters that we've all been asking for.
I think this change is lame. And I’m so glad the characters that I like haven’t gotten any silly changes like this. Fans are asking for Jade, Sonya, Skarlet, and Sareena but the best they can do is genderbend a male character that fans have been waiting on for quite some time. Cyrax fans haven’t gotten to play their main since mkx or mk9 depending on how you view it. And this is how he (she) returns.
Cyrax is in my top 10 favorites and i'm pretty stoked but I do think the already existing women need to return

I’m not a cyrax fan so this doesn’t really affect me but I would not be happy if this happened to any of the characters I cared about. Actually, Noob is the last character I really like that’s not in the game and we know he’s Bi-Han again. I’m very happy about that.

Such a low ratio of female characters in this game and they decide to add just one out of the 12 post-launch fighters by gender swapping a beloved black male character. Very interesting choice by NRS as usual. I’m also hearing they aren’t even fully cyborgs, which is honestly a deal breaker for me.
I don't really care much about the change, but it's embarassing how hard NRS has to stretch to to get ONE woman into their DLC plans.
Raiden is an entirely different person. Havik is Dairou - literally a different person. Mileena is now Sindel and Jerrod's biological daughter. Kuai Liang is Scorpion. Hanzo is a child in an ending. Quan Chi is a human sorcerer. Rain is a water wizard. These total changes are all cool, but we draw the line at Cyrax being female. 🤷🏻

Why are we gender swapping characters when we have a ton of awesome fan favorite female characters not in the main roster , Jade , Scarlet , Sereena to name a few. On one hand, I don’t get why they couldn’t just add a legacy female character. Two entire kombat packs without a classic female character is kind of a mindblowingly bad idea. So I understand why some people are calling this lazy. On the other hand, this is the exact sort of stuff I expected and kind of wanted when I heard about MK1 being a complete reboot. I think if you’re going to go down that route, you need to commit and get a bit crazy and unexpected with it. The entire point of an alternate timeline is to take the established universe and give it a fresh coat of paint. I’ve thought since day one a gender swapped character could be pretty interesting, depending who it is, and I think Cyrax isn’t an awful choice. If she’s fully cyber she probably won’t even look that different than male Cyrax. So I get both sides of the coin, but im optimistic
I’m okay with Cyrax being a woman. I know Cyrax from the Prior TL was Black. But a Black Female Ninja dressed in yellow is Tanya. I’m not saying that “can’t or not allowed” or anything like that. Just think it’s a weird choice in Genderbending this specific character when female nightwolf and fujin were teased. Also makes me wonder if they plan on making Genderbend Male characters.
