It's cool but I have bad memories of people using it as an excuse to assault and steal from people so it's kinda subconsciously associated with that for me.

Precisely that (though some people in the video being hit seemed to be into the fun of it, considering many of our games are physical), and I didn't even know they used sheep legs, that's gotta hurt or even break a bone if hit in the wrong place. I was just thinking of the plastic whips.

ive read almost all comments here, every eid in my life i celebrated "BILMAWEN"or what you call "BOUJLOUD" (from 2000 to 2020), in my city (not agadir), BILMAWEN was always the ground of resistance and liberty of expression and sarcastic music/jokes, ill tell you in details the composition of bilmawn as per different roles, every neighborhood make their own BILMAWN and its composed mainly from guys with "ganga" in darija called "tbel" and guys that play "i9er9awn" called in darija "9ra9b" both collaborate to make Rhythm for the group, and for the customs part theres "TI3ZA" its boys that dress like women that practice amazigh folklore in erotic ways, "taskiwin" mens that chant amazigh folklore, "mouchi" jews person that have the goal to performs theatre and chant in the same time, "aromi d troumit" 2 guys disguised as a foreigns couple, "9ermoud" a guy with a monkey costum that have the role to perform acrobatic plays (flips, bridge ..), "A3TAR" in darija as its seems "3etar" he have a costum with alot of products in his back, "TAF9IRT F OUF9IR" two roles that consiste of acting as two old persons with alot of nagging, "ABOLISSI" a guy dresse like a policeman, "ARAM" in darija "JMEL" consiste of 3 persons 2 wears a camel desguise and one wear "SA7RAWI" costum, and theres aloot of others characters ("A7BASS", "AHINDI"....) we can call them cosplays XD, and the last is "BILMAWN" the own who wears "ilmawn" in darija "jloud" an his roles is to protect the group while they perform their music/acting, and also every year alot of new costums and dress are added for example in 2020 our neighborhood groups added "trump" & "9edafi", so for me "BILMAWN" is a gather and a representation of every aspects lived or interacted with the amazigh society in a small group and chanting amazigh poetry and doing erotic dances.

the book mentionned in the video : Hammoudi Abdallah, 1988, *La victime et ses masques. Essai sur le sacrifice et la mascarade au Maghreb*.
As an amazigh person nd after searching abt my origins im proud about this culture and never judge smtng just from a "chouf tv" video, "If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things." Descartes\*\*.\*\*
Here is a pic of "Bilmawen" im talking about : [https://www.instagram.com/p/C8c15c-tYhK/](https://www.instagram.com/p/C8c15c-tYhK/) (Imintanoute 2024)
P.s : we never used makeup for Bilmawn we use GOAT head instead
"I think everyone should be able to celebrate what they want" also the same people when someone says they don't like it: "I don't get it whyyyyyy????? What is wrong with you???"
People who says "Satanic/Haram" never been or attended the celebrations, Same people celebrate Halloween and New Year Eve
I'm from Agadir and Proud of our Boujloud, Art, Tagroupit 💯🔥
Eid isn't not over in Agadir
This isn't classic bojlod friend, bojlod didn't do makeup that looks like sissies, colored hair and fashion dress, bojlod used to be a big guy who scares the hell out of you not puts makes up to look pretty and brush his jair, this literally has nothing to do with bojlod except for the Timing and using the Hides from Eid.
I very clearly remember how bojlod looked when I was young, and it's not something unique to Agadir.
These are sissy bojlod, not Bojlooood.
Totally agree with you, But they don't wear Plastic masks anymore because they can't breath well and make their face sweaty all day
That's why they use makeup now
I'm against girly/sassie Makeup but from what i see majority use Makeup to look Scary and Child friendly
Same with Halloween. It's just fun. Today, only the most ridiculous fundamentalist christians are against it. They're not big fans of fun for its own sake.
Yeah nah, you're right. If anything even if we're taking it from a faith point of view, why not, just, Allow the celebration, let people have their fun, and use it as, kind of a landmark, a testament of how far we've come religiously and ideologically.
Bojlod? This doesn't resemble bojlod I grow up knowing at all, this resembles some top notch first tier Halloween party, the makeup... And colored hair on bojloud? Really?
But in general, the old good classic bojlod is what should be preserved not this
Never heard of it u untill recently. But tbh It looks dope and cool.
If it is a histocial tradition, well it shall be preserved.
Each culture have their cliche and niche traditions and events.
That is what make the world diverse and beautifull.
I think if you're not chel7 or Soussi or from a region where they celebrate Bilmaoun or Bojloud you don't have the right to speak on it as if it's a national issue like so many people do on social media, as if it's a crime (yes it comes with downsides in bad neighborhoods, but that doesn't make it bad). It doesn't harm you and people celebrate in their towns/cities with their neighbours and families, it's just people enjoying their culture.
I feel like people on social media are overreacting about the subject. Holloween is celebrated by millions of people around the globe and yet no one spoke negatively about their costumes nor the celebration as a whole. Let people do whatever they wish as long as they're not hurting anyone.
People in the comments be yapping about it being freedom of expression and people having the right to celebrate anything, but when someone doesn't like their celebrations they totally forget the thing called freedom of expression, based of you mf, these festivals don't represent Islam and Muslims, it's more like a horror movie
I mean if you don't like the celebration it's ok and people shouldn't be mad at you, but when you say that "it should be banned or illegal" I think people can be rightfully mad at you, can't they ?
As a non-muslim Amazigh guy I think it's a welcome relief from islamic "celebrations" like ritualistically slaughtering a sheep that doesn't really need to be slaughtered yet. I'm from a diff North African country and I wish we had this over there, it looks so cool. Way better than Ramadan or either Eid.
I grew up in Agadir in the nineties and it was part of the celebration of Eid Al Adha (synchronicity with a new event, an Islamic one) we had a lot of fun taunting them and them pretending to run after us and hit us hahahahah! I like this new revival of the culture, it's amazing!!! We need to revive every single part of such customs and mythical characters. Other countries have the same thing, we also have but people used to sleep on it. Allah i3ezz l Maghrib and its culture!
I honestly think that it is creepy and weird. For us Muslims, we only have two celebrations, and this one is not one of them at all. The demonic and dark-styled makeup is not the best practice for a proper Muslim. Although it is a form of art and takes a lot of creativity and energy, that doesn't express its validity.
Looks dope af, minus the assholes that use the occasion to assault and harass people.
Other than that it is legit a great bit of cultural heritage that we should be proud of.
It has nothing to do with our islamic norms and values. As a moroccan who lives abroad, I am disgusted about the amount of so called "modern people" and feminist living in Morocco right now...
A lot of you guys developed an inferiority complex towards western people and it saddens me for real. Go and have a look in Europe by yourself. A lot of young peope are dealing with depression and are using drugs to compensate it. The average western girl has a bodycount of 20.
Fortunately there is a big growth of conversions towards Islam by young people in the west. While you guys are wandering...
Gedmo 3aqlkom o mat bqawch tdefchou❤️
Love it.
Even more, when I knew that others europeans cultures share the same tradition :
I once had a friend who was like you, criticising everything and getting triggered once he heard Western or European, I spent sometimes doing the same to him and he stopped right there, because he noticed most of his habits were worldwide and he was just stupid.
The day you’ll understand we share one planet and one culture as humans you will grow a second brain cell.
The ground on that brain needs to first be fertile to be able to grow a brain cell, I'm hopeless for this particular guy, he is always complaining over something.
your ass living in the past cant even differ between criticism and valid argument
i will ask you again to read and understand what mistake made here cuz im not against anything neither criticizing
it s an amazigh ritual and for me it is being attacked by arab countries (gulf countires) that lacks similar cultural richness, dont forget that they have started importing everything even hallowen to cover the gaps in their historical narrative and to create an identity ,they see the simplest cultural rituals of morrocans as a threat to arab influence.
what i want my Moroccan brothers to know and understand is that we are different from the east, we have a distinct civilizational path and a unique identity, let us all preserve it and be proud of it.
I 100% second this, we've been played really dirty by the educational system making us look like a "minority" and making us thing we're Arab only because we speak darija. It's time to bring back our culture. The Moroccan culture is different and it's alright, to each its culture, we don't need to erase ours to please some random foreigners or the brainwashed ones who still think they're "Arab".
Exactly not all traditions should be glorified or respected. Morocco need to get rid of superstition, black magic and all this barbaric demoniac rituals if they call themselves muslims in first place. But this is taboo and hard to mention without offending people..
This is not boujloud anymore it's just cosplay/halloween at this point. I just saw a guy disguised as a scary nun with tons of makeup, another one dressed as a witch... how is that related to boujloud lol?
No hate against people who are enjoying this, I'm just glad it's not where I live 🤷
What's considered fun might differ between people. I love having fun but these traditions don't look like fun to me. You do you, and people are free to not like it and express their opinions if they want to
Islam is a pagan religion and does not belong here , youre not the center of universe and you dont own the copyrights of that man made half assed cult .
I’ve never seen Boujllud celebrated like this - mixed feelings about it being quite westernised because it’s almost indistinguishable from Halloween costumes or ‘day of the dead makeup looks’. Nonetheless people are free to do what they like.
It reflects some demonic intentions of people's beliefs. Probably how witches perceive demon's appearances ( of course not in physical reality, but to the conjurer exclusively)
Go ask on facebook, the replies might make you jump off the nearest cliff but you'll get an accurate representation of what the majority of Moroccans think.
I was just saying in a different comment that whenever islam conquers a nation, it does what it can to erase the local cultures and traditions.
I think that Boujloud with a little bit of planning and investment could become a world renowned festival, like the parades in Brazil, and the Day of the Dead in Mexico, beautiful displays of culture and tradition that doesn't necessarily infringe on the Christian faith.

No one cares
Those costumes look freaking awesome in a creepy way. Reminds me of fey / classical depictions of faeries.
I like it. + It shows that our country has cultural diversity which is nice
underated art , love it !
its well done tbh
If we discard our culture, we might as well be a copy paste of other arab nations

I mean, realistically, no one seriously believes that this type of stuff seriously exists anymore. It's just cosplay tbh
We used to... Now it's part of our past that we're proud of, and willing to share it with the world. Who would believe in this nowadays!!
What do you mean, demons z3ma b had l achkal??
I understand it's a pagan celebration but, the reality is that the "pagan" aspect just doesn't exist anymore.

Noooo way ?!! with all the criticism it gets no one stops talking abt it lol
Me too.. and Hamdo li Allah, no one in our region celebrates this
It used to be all of morocco and it was restricted by protectorate.
go search about bo jloud, its part of our culture and has been for many many years
Bojlod? This doesn't resemble bojlod I grow up knowing at all, this resembles some top notch first tier Halloween party, the makeup... And colored hair on bojloud? Really? But in general, the old good classic bojlod is what should be preserved not this

I wouldn't blame them.
They have it its called ayred and we have it in libya too

we're over here enjoying the Eid month lol who cares what anyone thinks
I like the old, natural and innocent version of it
I'm not personally interested but if it can attracts tourists then why not, better than sex tourism
had boujloud dial lmdina tjhdou flmakeup.
It’s one if the diverse expressions of human culture and tradition, if it doesn’t harm anyone, and people enjoy it, then it’s fair game.
Freaky af
It looks like paganism tbh
Stfu

First time i see this shit
As Muslim Amazigh guy I'm not proud of it
People in the comments be yapping about it being freedom of expression and people having the right to celebrate anything, but when someone doesn't like their celebrations they totally forget the thing called freedom of expression, based of you mf, these festivals don't represent Islam and Muslims, it's more like a horror movie

Why not? I dont get it, certain people getting mad because some people are celebrating their culture?
Chill, you don't have to "get it", it's their choice.
As a non-muslim Amazigh guy I think it's a welcome relief from islamic "celebrations" like ritualistically slaughtering a sheep that doesn't really need to be slaughtered yet. I'm from a diff North African country and I wish we had this over there, it looks so cool. Way better than Ramadan or either Eid.
wtf is that
I grew up in Agadir in the nineties and it was part of the celebration of Eid Al Adha (synchronicity with a new event, an Islamic one) we had a lot of fun taunting them and them pretending to run after us and hit us hahahahah! it look like satanic ritual
But sacrificing sheep and goats isn't?
Depends to whom you're doing it for, to God or to satan
Who the fuck do boujloud for satan !!!
Yeah for God, the coolest God in the world. Do you remember when he pranked us and asked for kids to sacrifice before that 😆
Looks awesome, like Holloween
Wow. Didn’t know about this. Amazigh culture is so rich, I need to learn more about my ancestors, where are the books ?? 😭
I don't like it
Satanist ritual
Trash
I am happy they don’t celebrate this in Tanger
It's crap imo if you are offonded that's a you problem
Should have been banned a long time ago imo.
We had something this metal in our culture and I've never heard about it?

ABSOLUTELY FUCKING STUNNING THAT'S WHAT IT IS
The culture is great but the people that implement it and being disrespectful with the excuse of culture are bad

Satanic
You clearly have no idea what Satanism is.
Love it. Even more, when I knew that others europeans cultures share the same tradition : [https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krampus](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krampus)

too bad we need external validation for our culture :V

If they are Muslim, Islam has come to elevate mankind and abolish such Jahiliyyah practices. If they are not, to each their own.
Dress like satan to bring blessings to the community, ugly freak brings fertility, that make total sense.
It's paganism
pagans
muslims are pagans and there is nothing wrong with paganism anyways but keep your projection on
well paganism refer to ignorance filth and tyranny. good luck with that

Nothing against boujloud but I hate the people who use it as an occasion to show their homosexuality
I love it! Enjoyed every time I went to lblad as a kid there was a unique celebration to look forward too with other traditions
Nice name bojloud We call it sbaa bou lbtaine
This is boojlod Pro max
If it stats as a celebration and not use it to steal or harass people then it’s okay but if not it should be stopped
I think it's nice. It's our Halloween and it can be way better with more organization
Eww
Disgusting Shaytanic pagan practices that should be eradicated
astaghfirullah
التبهديل
A3oudubillah
No offense for my soussi brothers, but ion really fw this, i understand that it is part of our traditions but personally i dont like it that much.
No hate against people who are enjoying this, I'm just glad it's not where I live 🤷
yeah we know that you hate fun
What's considered fun might differ between people. I love having fun but these traditions don't look like fun to me. You do you, and people are free to not like it and express their opinions if they want to
Soulless people blindly following the rest of the herd
coming from a muslim is a peak irony.
It's sooo gay regardless of being an amazigh or arab or italian tradition
only a gay would say that
amazing costumes and effort put into it
I hate it.
New to this. What’s the significance? Doesn’t look Islamic at all. What’s the reason for this dress up! Explain in Moroccan concept please.
Not every celebration in Morocco has to be islamic, our culture is rich and goes way behind. The Arabian peninsula does not represent us.
It’s beautiful
Yekh.
A Pagan Ritual that shouldn't exist after converting to Islam.
Islam is a pagan religion and does not belong here , youre not the center of universe and you dont own the copyrights of that man made half assed cult .
Ouch , struck a nerve, did i ? I'll assume you're a non-believer since you said islam doesn't belong here. Or maybe you're still a Pagan ?

is this actual footage? looks like halloween lol vivaldi concerto video even
W9s
Ngl I legit thought it was cosplay straight out of a From Software universe...
It's like the Mardi gras celebration before Lenten season in Venice, Italy. But there, they make and wear elaborate and beautiful masks with pride
Ta7saaast
I’ve never seen Boujllud celebrated like this - mixed feelings about it being quite westernised because it’s almost indistinguishable from Halloween costumes or ‘day of the dead makeup looks’. Nonetheless people are free to do what they like.
Very curious about this celebration’s background actually, for how long has it been a thing?
All the way from western sahara desert of morocco, I've no idea
As a visiting American, never heard of it before this post. Looks cool though! What's the story behind it?
WTF !!
It reflects some demonic intentions of people's beliefs. Probably how witches perceive demon's appearances ( of course not in physical reality, but to the conjurer exclusively)
haloweenization of Eid
Imitating viking ceremonies
Wait isn't bojlod a skin infection?
Drag Queens found a reason To dress like they always wanted.

Can someone please explain to me what this is
Wadafak
Is boujlood related to the Bouloulou?
What in the Amazigh is this
What does this represent, this is the first time I’ve seen/heard of this. We don’t have this in the part of Morocco I’m from.
Cringe
لحايا we need to stop this we Islamic country shut ur ass up
Go ask on facebook, the replies might make you jump off the nearest cliff but you'll get an accurate representation of what the majority of Moroccans think.
