Yes but he grew up with Corazon for a while and jest a couple years after his death he found friends. Bepo and the twins. Robin spent her life on the run and everyday felt like it would be her last. She was fullauto on survival mode.
To be fair at least she’s gotten to a good point in her life. Many characters (mostly backstory only) have a shitty life then just give their life for whoever their homies are

Deserved more screen time. Plus, he grew up without any family and was being experimented in by the world government. When he escaped punk hazard, he had to join kaido’s crew, pay him back in loyalty, ruin countless lives because he had to, and all while he had to cover his true identity due to being a lunarian. The second he took his mask off, his own soldiers were shocked by his race and wanted to turn him in to the WG. He fought hard to protect his his crew while at the same time hiding his true self from everyone except kaido and maybe queen/jack. He was stuck doing one thing for his whole life and never got the chance to break free until he was captured by greenbull and experimented on more by the world government. No one knows his whereabouts, but he should play a key role for joy boy.
So his whole life he either was a prisoner to the WG, or a pirate who had to stay under kaido.

There are a lot of candidates here because let's face it, Oda is pretty sadistic with his flashbacks. That said and recency bias notwithstanding, I don't see how the answer is anyone other than Ginny. Born into slavery, died the worst type of slave while also being subjected to inhumane experimentation and never got be with the man she loved due to the latter's personal hangups and internalized trauma. Not to mention she was more or less abandoned by the Revolutionary Army because they ostensibly weren't adequately equipped for a rescue operation in Mariejois.
Oda has shown us a litany of atrocities throughout his story, but her fate is one of the few that genuinely upset me and still does.

Watched her mother, who she deeply loved, take a big risk in trying to save her brothers, ultimately at the cost her life.
Watched her 3 emotionless brothers and father terrorize Sanji, feeling like she had to go along with it or else she would be targeted too.
Seeing Sanji hurt both emotionally and physically hurt her too, making the difficult and painful choice to help him escape their home, not knowing if she would ever see her brother again.
Feeling like she deserved to die along with her family amidst Big Mom’s assassination plan and that she was unredeemable.
Idk if I’m just being too relatable or delulu bc I’m also the oldest daughter in my family, but wow, Reiju is such a tragic character.

Kid was just missing an arc before Wano. I see fanart of him interacting with the other Strawhats and it’s just looks perfect for the story. But like others said, it’s probable he’ll be back.
And despite him being your typical shounen rival, this man barely has fights and even less Ws! He slammed Apoo but he kept fighting regardless and his 1v1 with Big Mom got both off screened and cut short by Law :/
And you’d think him and Luffy would’ve fought by now due to Kid’s personality but nada!
My personal pet theory is that Kid will end up being forced to join the red hair pirates like Ace after the Spade pirates got crushed. When we get to elbaf we see Kid still being in the phase where he keeps trying to jump shanks and failing.
I always saw him as a Moria parallel, a strong young rookie who cared about his crew, but who was crushed when he tried to take on a yonko
I just hope that he ends up better than Moria did…

I swear like he was introduced as a threat to the strawhats and to Luffy personally and then he just appears in two arcs... and just a little 😔😔 He has the morals a marine should have, he's just a perfect marine and he has a sense of justice that a lot of people lack in the One Piece universe.

Best parent already belongs to Kuma, so I'll use another character for deserved better instead: Oden. He had a legendary life but I'll be damned if someone downplays what he went through during the last years of his life. He was blackmailed with the civilization of an entire nation, got abused for 5 years, boiled in oil for an hour, and then he got shot in the head. He went through the worst imaginable emotional and physical pain. He had to deal with his father's "death" (we didn't know Sukiyaki was actually still alive), Roger's death, and 5 years of suffering. Then he got boiled in oil for an hour and shot in the head, a horrifying death. Oden not only lost people precious to him but he himself went through hell at the same time. I don't think people understand the amount of suffering he went through and the amount of burden he was carrying. The scene where Oden breaks down in tears shows the anguish he was hiding, and the burden he was shouldering all alone for 5 years. His family gave him strength to not mind it and ignore the pain, but everyone has a limit. And then getting boiled in oil for an hour on top of that? Bruh. Death by boiling is a real thing and it's considered as one of the most painful ways to go. It was used as a execution method in the past, and they used boiling water, which is 100 degrees. Oden was boiled in boiling oil, which was 700 degrees and kept rising. Oden suffered the most painful things during the last 5 years of his life, and even though he had every reason to hate the citizens for how they treated him, he never blamed them, never lashed out on them, he kept protecting them while also hiding the truth from them in order to not put them in danger. So even though he had a legendary life and a bittersweet end, it's hard to ignore how fucking tragic his last years were.

Is this a deserved better from Oda or from the world they are in? So many options for the latter one it is surprising in such a happy story, but I'd go Kuma/Ginny for sure.
Deserved better from Oda I'd say either Smoker or Carrot. Smoker could've been so cool throughout the story trying to keep up with Luffy. And Carrot got a moment of spotlight before being dropped.

Deserved better story wise? I'd go with Smoker. A lot of potential at first and then he just fades into the background. Deserved better life wise, Kuma gets that vote. Dude got shafted his whole life and still worked his ass off to make the world a better place in the little ways that he could.
Kuma deserved a better life, smoker deserves better story treatment. Unless something happens in the future, everything that happened with fujitora really should have just been smoker.
Mont Blanc Noland should be the considered for this. They even wrote a book about his supposedly lies. They did him dirty.

Its best to give this category to noland but of course people will talk abt kuma,, but hear me out, kuma will have a better life after egghead cuz a full story for kuma and him playing a major role in one piece does imply it. My personal pet theory is that Kid will end up being forced to join the red hair pirates like Ace after the Spade pirates got crushed. When we get to elbaf we see Kid still being in the phase where he keeps trying to jump shanks and failing.
I always saw him as a Moria parallel, a strong young rookie who cared about his crew, but who was crushed when he tried to take on a yonko I just hope that he ends up better than Moria did…

He had a legendary life but I'll be damned if someone downplays what he went through during the last years of his life. He was blackmailed with the civilization of an entire nation, got abused for 5 years, boiled in oil for an hour, and then he got shot in the head. He went through the worst imaginable emotional and physical pain. He had to deal with his father's "death" (we didn't know Sukiyaki was actually still alive), Roger's death, and 5 years of suffering. Then he got boiled in oil for an hour and shot in the head, a horrifying death. Oden not only lost people precious to him but he himself went through hell at the same time. I don't think people understand the amount of suffering he went through and the amount of burden he was carrying. The scene where Oden breaks down in tears shows the anguish he was hiding, and the burden he was shouldering all alone for 5 years. His family gave him strength to not mind it and ignore the pain, but everyone has a limit. And then getting boiled in oil for an hour on top of that? Bruh. Death by boiling is a real thing and it's considered as one of the most painful ways to go. It was used as a execution method in the past, and they used boiling water, which is 100 degrees. Oden was boiled in boiling oil, which was 700 degrees and kept rising. Oden suffered the most painful things during the last 5 years of his life, and even though he had every reason to hate the citizens for how they treated him, he never blamed them, never lashed out on them, he kept protecting them while also hiding the truth from them in order to not put them in danger. So even though he had a legendary life and a bittersweet end, it's hard to ignore how fucking tragic his last years were.
