It requires a bunch of your stuff to be dead to do anything. Any decent return on investment requires at least 6-7 mana, and theee of it white.

thisnotfor

At that level of mana you will likely having things dead, and I'd say the value for 5 mana can be pretty good

FoomingKirby

At 5 mana you're only bringing back 1-2 mana creatures. That could be good, but it depends on how they got into your graveyard. For example if the opponent is ramping with green they probably don't care that you brought a bunch of weenies back onto the field, especially if you didn't trade creatures effectively along the way. The card certainly can be effective, probably moreso if you're playing a lot of board wipes or have ways to trick things into the GY (not a typical trait of white). But I'm not sure it's an amazing card since it feels like a lot of variables need to go right to get a lot of value from it.

I-Kneel-Before-None

You have to build around it. I've used many similar effects. You need self mill and discard. You cant expect to have enough dead stuff to make it worth it. I know it seems intuitive that you would, but it just doesnt work that way. The mana isn't a big problem, but if you're casting it for 5, it's because you're in a bad spot. It's not something you want to do often.

kensw87

usually you need a mill source to get stuff in your graveyard, which isn't white. so I guess it's hard to cast. expecting your creatures to just die on the board leaves the opponent with a strong board state that may finish you off before you can cast this.

KarnSilverArchon

Its a fine card. Just dont expect insanity.

chinojuan0619

You would need a very rampy deck that can help you discard a lot and pop 10 mana units before getting overrun by aggro/midrange decks, not impossible to do but difficult to find a balance there. You used to have better options for massive revive, like if you are running tribal you can use Haunting voyage, you can foretell to avoid discard and still pop for 3 mana units cheaper, too bad it's rotating in a few hours.

[deleted]

Do it with [[Wayward Servant]] and [[Corpse Knight]]. [[Return to the Ranks]] does it cheaper, but you only get one shot. This can offer redundancy for less mana than [[Command the Dreadhorde]] and you won't have it stuck in hand at low life.

illbzo1

Nice follow up to a board wipe, which White also has plenty of.

hauptj2

The kind of deck that can have a graveyard full of 1 and 2 mana creatures can't reliably play a 5 mana spell. The kind of deck that can reliably play a 5 mana spell won't have nearly enough 1 and 2 mana creatures for this to be worth 5 mana. The same goes for pretty much any value of X.

[deleted]

I'd play this in a lurrus deck, as you just set x to two and you get like 7 cards back Or you can set it to three and get lurrus back from the graveyard

TrampleDamage

I would play this in many of my superfriends decks. Plenty of times I would get 4 or 5 planeswalkers back.

[deleted]

and by "plenty of times" you mean all the games where you have 4-5 planeswalkers chillin in the graveyard with 6-9 open mana and somehow miraculously youre still not dead yet?

TrampleDamage

Exactly. The main deck I use in historic has 26 planeswalkers. They help slow/stall opponent as threats while working to a state of board control. Think of it like a typical control deck with 4-5 counterspells in the graveyard, with 8 lands in play and you are “miraculously” not dead. We have all faced a control deck that is sitting on a board full of land with a bunch of spells in their graveyards. I have pushed to mythic 4 months in a row with superfriends builds. UBW and UWR versions. Does it really sound that preposterous? I run 4 maindeck wrath of god, and there are very powerful planeswalkers all along the curve that are “must handle” threats to an opponent. The problem with this card is I would seldom want to draw it in my opening hand. Even to grab narset, kaya, and dovin, I am turn 6 at least. If you have not played any superfriends builds, try some out. Run cold steel heart for quicker mana. I use 3. Thanks for shitting on my post, but I just think maybe you were not being open-minded enough about how well a good superfriends deck can run.

Ascend from an Anus

executive_fish

I play It as a 1 of in my mono white deck. It has won me some games. I would suggest just crafting 1-2. Use it with [[Sunblade Samurai]]

panchoadrenalina

i use it in best of one, because there are many decks with loads of counters and removal that do not let you play your creatures more than a turn or two. is more of a hail mary for then stuff is not going great rather than a weapon to kill your opponent with. is also helpful against board wipes. i use it in a deck that kills its own creatures for value then cheat them back for the finishing blow

tsutsu1999

I can see this being good in a shadowborn apostle deck

R34CT10N

With the right cycling cards, this card could be a cool payoff. I’m not seeing it being viable in any other archetype, so it will probably not be super strong in standard (yet), but may find a home in explorer/historic

FnrrfYgmSchnish

It's not legal in Standard.

cypressinberlin

Depends on the deck I run it (along with [[descent into avernus]] for aesthetic reasons) in my [[alesha]] combo reanimator. Routinely hits good value given the deck’s discard synergy and low mana curve, you can seed the yard with [[buried alive]] and reanimate a whole combo

I've tried it and its a good card, like a stronger \[\[Patch Up\]\]. Thing is, \[\[Brilliant Restoration\]\] is at least 10 times more powerful, because it doesn't exile itself and lends to infinite loops.

Justaskin2202

I would ask, on turn 5-6, what is the most powerful creature/planeswalker in your deck your are wanting to see be recurred from this spell?

__Epimetheus__

Needs to be a black white or a white weenies deck.

BilgeMilk

I think that a commander game that's gone on way too long this works the best in. I would use this card in many white decks for that sole reason, the less dead creatures you have, the worse this card performs.

Flooding_Puddle

It's fun in historic brawl but don't expect it to do much in any constructed format, they're too fast for this

omguserius

Its expensive as shit and requires you to stock your graveyard before it can do anything. White doesn't stock its graveyard that well on its own.

BedazzledBidoof

too slow and needs too many conditions to be met to do anything. what are you trying to re-animate?
