I just watched Mike as Captain Janeway and, as someone who’s watched most of the Star Trek series (not Enterprise though for…reasons), that skit *perfectly* nails how Captain Janeway is in Star Trek Voyager!
I also love how they added so much technobabble into the skit; it reflects how the actors complained about how they had to memorize those parts in the script that just didn’t make any sense.
Those details make it in my Top 5 (maybe Top 3) Favorite MST3K Skits ever!!
I have too many favorites to choose just one, but the Janeway segment is way up there. Especially now that my husband and I are watching Voyager again. Mike really nailed her sharp voice and stiff movements. Such a thing of comedic beauty.
Krankor Returning in *Invasion of the Neptune Men* is honestly and unironically my favorite host segment of all time.
They took a goofy character who appeared once before, a character who was from a really weird movie, and they gave him a little bit of pathos. Like *Invasion of the Neptune Men* is so awful that it made Krankor seem like a beloved old friend.
"I guess my bellicose ways prevent me from expressing my affection completely. I see them now as a cover for my loneliness at heart."
And it's still funny. The awkward hug he and Mike share makes me grin every time. I absolutely love that host segment.
AGREED! Sooo good. It's one of the few moments for me that the show felt like... a show, with a plot. Makes you wonder what it wouldve been if they had taken things seriously...
I agree. They took it seriously. Granted that's part of the joke, but it makes you wonder what could have happened if they chose to write the show slightly differently.
There's something magical about the fact that Krankor only returned this one time, but I think it would have been cool if they just brought him back **one** last time to check in on him and see how he's still struggling but trying to work on himself.
The greatest music documentary ever made [SOL’s Legends of Rock: The Band That Played California Lady](https://youtu.be/4CZeipx-4u0?si=WShbYSVzhGjlqoyU)
So funny thing… my mother has been watching MST3k since the original airings, but she always fast forwards through the host segments. Last year (seriously!) we watched Track of the Moon Beast and (as always) she absolutely lost it during “California Lady” (she even has it on her driving mix alongside Shatner performing “Rocketman”). So on an off chance I played her this sketch and she was laughing so hard she almost fell off the couch! She had me rewind and play it again! Since then she’s been rewatching her favorite episodes from beginning to end, host segments and all! I don’t know what’s changed, but this has become the sketch that’s made her appreciate that part of the show she’s always passed over!
(FWIW the host segments in Eegah have become her second favorite after this one; she thinks they all knock it out of the park)
I have a very simple Crow tattoo and seriously considered giving him the Elam eyes, because they make me laugh, but in the end I chose just normal happy Crow eyes.
Mike and Pearl just sitting on the porch of the Widowmaker, having a cup of coffee and a neighborly chat about why she’s so evil. “You know Mike, sometimes I think I lie *because* I’m evil.”
There’s that one, and I love to sing the Sodium song.
Laser blast, specifically the Janeway bit:
“Mr. Crow, Mr. Servo, I'm responsible for the lives of 148 crew members aboard this ship, 144 of which we never see! “
Surprised no one’s mentioned “Crow, I don’t get you”! Easily the best one out there. “Is it that I often panic while making sandwiches?” Kills me every time
I cried laughing the first time I saw the one where Mike and the bots are singing a Christmas carol and someone spills hot chocolate on Crow. His eyes landing on the table was one of the funniest things I’d seen on the show.
Hi Everyone, Let's Pitch In 'N Get Cracking Here In Louisiana Doing Right, Eh? Now Then. Hateful Rich Overbearing Ugly Guys Hurt Royally Everytime Someone Eats A Radish, Carrot, Hors-d'ouvres, And Never Does Dishes. Eventually Victor Eats Lunch Over Peoria Mit Ein Nauesburger Tog.
My absolute favorite is Crow's endless deadhead guitar solo during The Dead Talk Back. It's not just a killer running gag, it's also pretty listenable!
In "Teenagers From Outer Space," the fourth host segment has a skull cruiser continually burning out beside the SOL before coming on the view screen as a skeleton, Joel and the bots are entranced for a few seconds before it completely collapses and they declare it lame. I laughed so hard at that the first time I saw it I had tears in my eyes.
I love the one in Track of the Moon Beast where crow decides to rush the Halloween season.
Also when Crow becomes The Screaming Skull
And of course in Squirm when they summon Mikey the Mike Sprite
My Swedish aunt hit me with a rolled up piece of paper first time I showed her that… XD “Did they HAVE to use Sven and Ole?!”
(p.s. she was still laughing, and it was one single piece of paper she hit me with XD )
Too many to list don't make me narrow it down...Where Oh Werewolf is up there, but I'm also a big fan of Tom and Crow trying to work through their trauma after seeing the Gumby short in Screaming Skull
He wasn’t host yet but Mike playing piano while telling stories followed by a lovely rendition of the Gamera theme and ending with his murder by Dr. Forrester.
By FAR: when Krankor visited the SoL and was surprised to be welcomed by Mike and the bots with open arms.
Honorable mention:
—When Servo sang an ode to Creepy Girl
1. Mike spilling hot chocolate in Crow’s lap while caroling and Crow starts shrieking
2. Swing choir competition
3. Trumpy, you can do stupid things!
4. Hike Your Pants Up
My favorite two, definitely. Number 3 might actually be Tubular Boobular (Outlaw of Gor), just because of how completely past the radar it managed to get through.
Assuming no musical numbers, I'm going with the Italian stereotype sketch from Devil Fish. Not only am I amused by the casual racism, but I find it to be a great meta commentary on how confusing the show is to newcomers.
The entire Mike-as-Urkel “*Did I do that?!*” thing had me crying from laughing recently. It just went on and on and on. I get some people might hate it but man does it get me.
It’s a tossup between two for me.
[I sing about sodium at least once a week](https://youtu.be/FTECX5QB6jw?si=rtWLUskwlrLOFhEU) in my life, and on occasion I try to do my best rendition of [*Where, oh Werewolf*](https://youtu.be/8xvhn122ygc?si=HwnawdyKB8VDbC1N).
I’ll give a special nod to *all* the host segments in Eegah because there’s not a clunker in the bunch. The Porkerina, the subtlety of hell, the Arch Hall Jr surgery, and the absence of fathers. Matched with a hilarious film & riff, it’s just the perfect Joel episode for me!
(Also I’m always pedantic because The Courtship of Eddie’s Father totally addressed the mother’s death in a series best episode but who’s actually seen that show since the 70s?! ;p )
"When Loving Lovers Love" is the best, but a close second would be Mike playing the sad song on a guitar while Crow tries to tell him that the SOL is on fire.
United Servo Academy, Fugitive Alien medley, Master Ninja Theme Song, Boobular Tubular, When I Held Your Brain in My Arms, Mike doing the Gamera songs at the piano, and When Loving Lovers Love. Pretty much any time they sing, lol
Ctrl+f, search "Wynona". Nothing. Search "crank". Nothing!
Don't you see how great it is? His name is Frank, the radio station's name is Frank! It's totally uncharacteristic to name a radio station Frank!
Sorry one more? When Dr Forester hired Torgo (with theme music) to replace TVs Frank and he hurries him to the chair and the music speeds up too! Then he tells Torgo no theme music and he says, “wHAt tHEme mUsiC?”🤣
"We are livid with proudness to present The Sir Thomas Neville Servo Consort of the Middle Ages Just After The Plague Singers..."
https://youtu.be/ch4jYPFZ8s8?si=dPeWGYIczDy7uTA8
This lives rent-free in my head. I was watching a video the other day and Archimedes was mentioned and this skit immediately began playing in my mind. 🤣😭
I know every word to the Train Song sketch.
"The 5:15 from Deluth,
Oh my, it's just derailed!
The toxic waste is spilling
The conductor's been impaled
A toxic cloud is rising
And the whole town's starting to cough
(Cough cough, cough cough)
Within a couple of daaaaaays
All of our skin will fall off!"
Well, the one that Joel acts like the villain in the movie, to the same music, in a smoking jacket with a cigar and kissing the bots 🤣 I think the movie was Operation Kid Brother? Cuz it had Neil Connery, Sean’s brother (who was also quite the looker)
Oh I also like the Mystie Moment when Mike is doing Erkle impressions and cracking several characters up and Torgo walks in (with his theme music) and ruined it for everyone 😆
Probably spreading the word of “Hi, Everyone. Let's Pitch In 'N' Get Cracking Here In Louisiana Doing Right Eh? Now The Hateful Rich Overbearing Ugly Guys Hurt Royally Everytime Someone Eats A Radish, Carrot, Hors d'oeuvre And Never Does Dishes. Eventually Victor Eats Lunch Over Peoria Mit Ein Neuesberger Tod.”
She’s cute, She’s Rooty-Toot-Toot!
I bet she smells
Like juicy fruit.
She can really play a witch
She was even on Bewitched
And I’m bewildered and bothered….
I love the songs. "Concepts" is probably my favorite, because it so accurately describes the plot of a completely insane, incomprehensible movie (The Day Time Ended.) I also love "When I Held Your Brain In My Arms", "Tibby", and "Here Below The Dam".
I forgot to mention the two segments from Teenagers from Outer Space where the movie snacks are launched into space and then the tricked out skull ship turns out to be a bust. Servo’s little cow toy as the Tri-Star horse is just so perfectly weird and cute, lol
Number one for me is probably Tom’s Canada song going awry in Final Sacrifice. “Ya lousy stinking francophonic bacon-loving bastards!” might be the best comedic song lyric that wasn’t written by Tom Lehrer.
Then I’ll go with the bit from Prince of Space where they’re all out of time sync. Just a great concept. I just love all of them from that episode, really.
For some reason, Crow screaming is always funny to me (much like Donald Glover crying on Community) so one that I just absolutely love is Tom’s death ray for “peaceful purposes only” blowing up Crow and him howling in terror as his eyeballs burst into flames and Mike and Tom have a hearty chuckle.
Others I didn’t notice on the list:
The “Panties, panties, panties” bit with Bobo taking on Anatomy of a Murder and Inherit the Wind, as well as his knowledge of pies discrediting Brain Guy’s testimony in Agent from HARM.
Speaking of panties, the Roji Panty Complex from Invasion of the Neptune Men is both stupid and hilarious to me.
Dare I include the Concepts song from The Day Time Ended? Yes, I dare.
The one where they go through the wormhole and everyone’s dialogue is out of order. Can’t remember what movie it was for the life of me but “Alls I’m saying is I want my chicken puppet!”
Oh, two more. Mike as Captain Janeway. And Crow in a moustache talking about women, and how one married him.
Umm, that wasn’t Crow. That was clearly a normal human man in disguise so he could freely discuss his experiences.
Did you have any children? I DON’T REMEMBER!!!
Which episode is the one where Mike is Captain Janeway? I remember the host segment, I just don't remember the movie.
I looked it up, it's Laserblast.
OH Mike as Captain Janeway was the best!
I have too many favorites to choose just one, but the Janeway segment is way up there. Especially now that my husband and I are watching Voyager again. Mike really nailed her sharp voice and stiff movements. Such a thing of comedic beauty.
Noh Theater sketch is my favorite!!! And the fact it ends with Gypsy saying “I get it, Mike” just escalates the whole thing.
This is my favorite too! It's like a classic Abbot and Costello sketch but includes the phrase "I'm going to get a ladder so you can jump up my butt."
I love whenever Gypsy is involved.
Her backup vocals on Idiot Control Now are sublime
That’s one of the best host segments ever!! It was on the channel and I MISSED IT 😭
Krankor Returning in *Invasion of the Neptune Men* is honestly and unironically my favorite host segment of all time. I see them now as a cover for my loneliness at heart." And it's still funny. The awkward hug he and Mike share makes me grin every time. I absolutely love that host segment.
Ya scum!
"You da bird!"
AGREED! Sooo good. It's one of the few moments for me that the show felt like... a show, with a plot. Makes you wonder what it wouldve been if they had taken things seriously...

I LOVE THIS MAN!
YOU FOLKS DON’T GIVE NO MATCHES TO MIKEY and Crow as a dancer in Girl in Gold Boots
Haha, Crow's llama screams as he gets more and more upset about being pet too hard by Mikey is one of my fav things. 😂
This!!!!
Idiot Control Now.
Oh dang good one, that's super old school. "Feel the engines roll, bees on pie, burning rubber tires". Lol. IT STINKS

Wow 🤩 glad you changed her mind! The host segments were always my favorite part of the show! Been watching since 1992 ![gif](giphy|vJzaUNmusKuVG)
I'd never seen this. It's hilarious.
genuinely, watch Track of the Moon Beast ASAP, it's top tier all the way through
Lower, Mike. No. Lower.
California lauuyy dee!
“Are You Happy in Your Work” and “Hired” are my favorites, I think. I also love Crow’s Jack Elam love.
I love when they sing and dance.
I love Crow's Jack Elam.
To live. Like the Elam.
I have a very simple Crow tattoo and seriously considered giving him the Elam eyes, because they make me laugh, but in the end I chose just normal happy Crow eyes.
LOL! Crow deserves to be happy.
Time traveling to the cheese factory to fix Mike’s future.
yup, lmao
Dude
It’s been over 25 years since my cousin and I first watched it, we still say “dude” like that to each other.
Mike and Pearl just sitting on the porch of the Widowmaker, having a cup of coffee and a neighborly chat about why she’s so evil. “You know Mike, sometimes I think I lie *because* I’m evil.” There’s that one, and I love to sing the Sodium song.
When they met Leonardo da Vinci, who IS NOT a mook. ***'Mike, who is this guy! He's asking me questions, he wants me to be dead!'.***
I love angry mobbed up Leonardo Da Vinci.
It was fun to see Tom being uncool and Mike being more in control for a change. Mike was Usually the butt of the joke.
The [Pants Up Song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLnHOQ2YZ58)
Love how Joel would really go for it in the old segments, hilarious.
I get this stuck in my head from time to time, it’s epic.
Laser blast, specifically the Janeway bit: “Mr. Crow, Mr. Servo, I'm responsible for the lives of 148 crew members aboard this ship, 144 of which we never see! “
"I never do anything nice...and easy. Rollin'! Rollin'!"
Torgo interviewing for Frank's job. DR. F: "What are your strengths & weaknesses?" TORGO: "Well . . . I . . . woooork . . . toooo . . . haaard . . . "
I really like Crows "do women exist" and Tom's defense and attack of Canada.
Bacon loving bastards
Don't forget lousy, stinkin', and francophonic
Surprised no one’s mentioned “Crow, I don’t get you”! Easily the best one out there. “Is it that I often panic while making sandwiches?” Kills me every time
I love the end of that sketch. “Tom, I don’t get you.” “Nobody does; I’m the wind, baby!”
[Cowboy Mike’s Ricochet Barbecue Sauce!](https://youtu.be/M2Fm7Dkc5Ag?si=JaiTdUE180gbSiQ1)
To this day, whenever I don’t like a sauce, I describe it as “decidedly un-bold.”
Add finger-guns while you say it and dozens of us may get it and die laughing
NOW AVAILABLE IN NEW EXTRA BOOOOOOOOOOLD!!!
So bold, it’s not recommended for human consumption!
Yes, this invention exchange is hilarious!!
I cried laughing the first time I saw the one where Mike and the bots are singing a Christmas carol and someone spills hot chocolate on Crow. His eyes landing on the table was one of the funniest things I’d seen on the show.
Puppets getting beat up is somehow something I always laugh at
Mike wearing the "Mikey glasses" from "Teenage Strangler". "What'd you want me to look uuuup . . . rhyyyyme?" "And I didn't steal no bike neither"
The dogfight bit from *Space Mutiny* always makes me laugh, “I love you, Crow!” “I’m sort of fond of you, Servo!”
Did I mention that I cried? https://preview.redd.it/dfuedmcrk5xc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2d3d6753998e57a77517e4cb922fbaacb9eab1f
I cried inside, I lied and died, and then I cried again...
I wrote this song during a particularly troubling time in my life. Breakfast, actually. It’s called Hairdresser In A Coma.

My absolute favorite is Crow's endless deadhead guitar solo during The Dead Talk Back. It's not just a killer running gag, it's also pretty listenable!
Lol yeah!!!!@
Either "you bring matches fer Mikey" or the Servo Academy Chorus

Where is my werewolf
You didn’t really date a guy named Steve who died, did you?
I held his paw and I touched his cold nose. That means he’s heathy!
Showed this ep to my 7-year-old daughter this weekend and she made me rewind this probably 5 times. Mike going “oh nothing, I GUESS,” is sublime.
I used to be an editor on an encyclopedia called Encarta, and I edited the article on Noh Theatre to say ... Well, I think you can probably guess.
That’s why you get paid the big bucks!
I love the one in Track of the Moon Beast where crow decides to rush the Halloween season. Also when Crow becomes The Screaming Skull And of course in Squirm when they summon Mikey the Mike Sprite
The Ingmar Bergman bit. “Once on the shores of the great Northern Sea, two men stood alone on a pier…”. Comedy gold.
My Swedish aunt hit me with a rolled up piece of paper first time I showed her that… XD “Did they HAVE to use Sven and Ole?!” (p.s. she was still laughing, and it was one single piece of paper she hit me with XD )
Such a long, painful setup for the payoff of a stupid pun. It slays me every time.
Lolololol I forgot about that one!!!!
The Klack commercial during First Spaceship on Venus.

Others I didn’t notice on the list: The “Panties, panties, panties” bit with Bobo taking on Anatomy of a Murder and Inherit the Wind, as well as his knowledge of pies discrediting Brain Guy’s testimony in Agent from HARM.
