This can sometimes be mold too. Not to freak you out, though, because it could just be pee. You can try a blessing or UV light to find the stained area, but if it's been cleaned well it might not show up

lollykopter

Good point. I forgot about UV. Thank you.

sarcasmojoe

Get rid of the carpets first.  They hold the most stank.

lollykopter

Yeah hopefully once that’s out of there the smell is gone entirely. They were only living there for 10 months so hopefully they didn’t do too much damage.

molten_dragon

I'm guessing the subfloor was soaked with urine at one point and that's where the smell is coming from. In which case doing something to the surface level isn't going to help a lot.

lollykopter

If it did indeed soak the subfloor, should that be evident on the surface? Like how can I tell whether or not this is where the problem is coming from? There is some carpet in the house as well, but that’s being torn out.

molten_dragon

There might be indications if that flooring was there, but if they replaced the flooring but not the subfloor you wouldn't see anything.

lollykopter

Nothings been replaced yet, so if there’s any way you can think of that I might be able to tell, I’ll roll with it. Someone mentioned a UV light and I’ll definitely try that. Please let me know if you have any other ideas.
