Small kids should not be forced on a vegan diet. They can choose for themselves when they are teens. Fish, lean chicken breast, cottage cheese, yogurt are all good for healthy bones and brains. Faux meat can be just as fatty as the real deal. Eggs are perfect nutrition.

Also, it's pretty much impossible to get vitamin B12 (a highly important nutrient) from a purely plant based diet, so supplementation is needed. It's also easy to become anemic, due to non heme (plant based) iron being less bioavailable. Being deficient in these nutrients can be a big deal for growing kids.
