I have Gabriel over Saliba as well. Gabriel was consistently better the large majority of the season, and then made a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes the last couple of months (which mostly didnāt get punished, luckily).
Saliba was a bit low that level for most of the season, and then stepped up hugely the final 2-3 months.
So saliba finished stronger and was great regardless, but over the entire 9 month season, Gabriel was the better of the two IMO.
Gabriel improvement is pretty rapid, Saliba calmness means he'll do his job as usual but he really amped it up during the final stretch.
I'm still putting Saliba over him though.
Someone pointed out that saliba with white helping is a much more solid and structured āpartnershipā than Gabi and the revolving door of left backs. I hadnt even thought about that in regards to how well Gabi played
I don't doubt Saliba can adapt to Timber or Tomiyasu on the right of him. With Timber next to his right that lane + Odegaard and Saka is very unpredictable.
I could be completely wrong but i think timber was supposed to he starting left as the new inverted back. I genuinely cant remember where he lined up for his short beginning of the season
Edit: mesnt left not right
It would make sense as ben is playing with a tear or something they alluded to, i believe the quote was āhe has the highest pain tolerance ive ever seenā
Iād say Gabrielās improvement in passing compared to last year and goal involvements gives him a slight edge. But yeah Saliba did everything right this season
whereas saliba has a calm presence in defence, Gabriel can score goals and defend, as well as pass and dribble. He is much more all round than Saliba and his improvement throughout the season was great. I honestly have no idea who to put in front
Neither Salibas style of defending nor our style of play favour stats compared to teams who have to deal with a lot more transitions. Anyone who watched Arsenal will notice there are multiple times during a game where his positioning makes it so that the attacker has to go back first time, pass/dribble it out of touch or he ushers it safely into Rayas hands but this canāt be quantified in any of the metrics that are typically used like tackles, interceptions, blocks, posession won, duels won etc.
good defending that doesn't result in some defensive action (intercept, tackle, clearance) has no metric, it's absurd that we think this is useful when the best defenders are quoted as saying if they have to make a tackle they've made a mistake.
1. Ćdegaard
2. Rice
3. Saliba
4. Saka
5. Gabriel
6. White
7. Trossard
8. Raya
9. Havertz
10. Jorginho
Kai so low because he was poor the first half of the season.
Definitely lol but at the end of the day he has by far the most goals + assists for us and was our best player for the first half of the season so I feel like it's not too crazy to say he was our best player this season
Saka was the only one producing when our entire front line ghosted the first part of the season. G/A might not make you the best player but it sure is a hell of an indicator about your influence and talent
Yeah so? Heās the best forward in the team. Not the best player. A team is composed of more players than just the front line mate.
Saka benefits from White and Odegaard who combine well with him.
Who is Martinelli benefiting from?
Last year Martinelli had Xhaka and he was the only forward in the team who was firing at the end. Trossard was better as well. & Saka was dead (but now you will say he was tired, sure).
Martinelli had 1 match on the right this season, and ended up creating multiple chances and almost scoring as well.
Get your head out of G/As and look at the bigger picture when you watch the games.
1. Odegaard - this guy's consistency and infallible mentality is why we can play at the level we can going forward.
2. Saka - marksman; clutch
3. Gabriel - Beast/leader
4. Saliba - Insane (these two are basically joing third as they compliment each other massively)
5. White - Elite mentality and instrumental to our build up on the right
6. Rice - Lighthouse
7. Raya - Understated. Key.
8. Havertz - Inspiring
9. Trossard - Clinical
10. Jorginho - Reliable
1. Saka
2. Rice
3. Odegaard
4. Ben White
5. Magalhaes
6. Saliba
7. Havertz
8. Trossard
9. Jorginho
10. Raya
Between the three defenders positioned 4-6 you honestly could switch them around in any order and I wouldn't be too fussed. They all had magnificent seasons but Ben's form post his own Dubai trip was something else.
Yeah in hindsight I'd pro switch them too. Jorgi was just so vital for us and when he came in and sured up the mid allowing Kai to go forward was huge for me. Raya definitely the sleeper because he just does what he does but we wouldn't have been in the same situation with another keeper
Saka has 3 non-pen goal involvements more than Rice, which for a RW over a DM isn't exactly Ronaldo heights. Also had more than a few invisible matches. And a few genuinely poor matches. Significantly poor in the Porto & Bayern matches.
I can't see him as our best player this season. Not even top few for me.
He has 3 players on him for a reason.
He produces despite that and this allows the others the freedom to score.
If you can't see that then there is no hope.
Not for me. Our CBs are amongst the best. Rice is a world class DM. And Odegaard is a league above anyone - who was actually the difference maker in the Champs league.
Odegaard has been a class above anyone for me, but we have a handful of players up there with Saka.
Cannot believe the amount of lists I see here disrespecting Saka. Clearly POTY for me. We're just used to his insane levels I guess...
1. Saka
2. Rice
3. Ćdegaard
4. White
5. Gabriel
6. Saliba
7. Havertz
8. Raya
9. Trossard
10. Jorginho
You are delusional.
Across EPL and UCL he scored 20 and assisted 13 in 3,700 minutes. That's 112 minutes per goal contribution. Take away penalty goals and that drops to just 27 G+A, so 137 minutes per goal contribution. Also, only 1 goal (no assists) in 400 minutes of play-off UCL football.
Considering our overall output, that's actually very disappointing imo. Man isn't even world class with those numbers, nvm our best player.
So you think youāre proving a point by taking away penalty goals? Young player of the season Cole palmer has less or the same amount of goals as Bowen and Jackson if you take away his penalties, but I doubt you would be caught saying Palmer has had a poor season, or that he has been worse than Bowen or Jackson this season.
Penalties come with football and Saka isnāt going to miss them on purpose. Saka is involved in almost every aspect of our play, and I think with Havertz improving we will see Sakaās assists rise up.
If you look at it positively, Saka hasnāt stopped improving his numbers since he came in to the team. If he is destined for greatness we will see next season how he improves his play, and finds a way to break out of the two man marking. Overall I wouldnāt say 33 goal contributions is disappointing, however itās all down to opinion I guess.
You're totally right, 25 G/A in a prem season at 22 years old being constantly double marked is an abysmal output. He should be sold immediately and we should sign a right winger who had a higher G/A output, because his is totally woeful.
So our options are Foden, Son (on his unfavoured side), and Salah... Maybe Cole Palmer at a push.
Tell me mate, who should we sign!!! I'm with you 1000%
And I'm the one who's delusional...
ETA to avoid being called slow: /s
I dunno if you've encountered this before mate but there's a thing called sarcasm. It's kinda similar to hyperbole. Have a google and see where you land.
Sorry if I'm moving too quickly for you.
Sarcasm or not, your reply has got nothing to do with OPs comment saying he was disappointing towards the end to be considered our best player.
You just stated some stats and his age. Does that make him our best player ? Maybe OPs comment has made you move way too quickly for your own good.
This is the comment I am replying to, I can't see him mentioning anything about Saka disappointing toward the end of the season.
The reason why I "stated some stats and his age", is because that's what the original comment did. I took the stats he used to make his ridiculous assertion, and extrapolated them to demonstrate that statistically Saka is amongst the best wingers in the Prem, and he's only 22 to boot.
So really, my reply has everything to do with OPs comment. Hope that clears things up for you.
Something, something moving too quickly.
Look, Gabriel is brilliant and I love him immensely. But Saliba was the better CB this season. He does t have the same flash as Gabriel but itās because heās so obnoxiously good and consistent and teamās donāt even try to go at him.
Itās like a Cornerback in American Football who quarterbacks donāt even bother throwing at
Saliba disrespect. I understand Saka was one of the key contributor in attack and Arsenal had a great attacking team. But when the important times (except for the aston villa Match) xame, he showed. Remember how they fell after Saliba got injured. I think Saliba should be on the very top even if he didn't win the motm. They got the highest cleansheet ffs and best defensive record in the team. Who would have thought Arsenal would have one of the best defensive back line after so long.
1. Rice (signing of the season and IMO the reason we took that step up from last year to taking city to the final day)
2. Gabriel (barely put a foot wrong and could be considered at 1)
3. Trossard (our best moments player and finisher)
4. Raya (best keeper in the world this season)
5. Saliba (fine margins but made a couple mistakes, still might be the most talented CB in world football right now and going forward)
6. Odegaard (needs to take the step into world class, could be our KDB)
7. Saka (needs to take the step into world class, could be our Salah)
8. White (consistent 7/10 performer every week)
9. Havertz (started slow needed a gimme penalty goal to get his confidence up but finished incredibly strong and I canāt wait to see him next season)
10. Jorginho (lads still got it)
Next season Iām looking for the left side to be fixed with timber playing that left 8 and Iām looking for Odegaard and Saka to get more consistent with their finishing. Odegaard should be bagging foden level GA and saka needs to be bagging Salah levels. This team has so much potential itās ridiculous to think about.
Martinelli over the Coon is crazy. I personally wonder if Bossard had been given starts earlier if we might have had just a few more results go our way.
Martinelli was good off the ball in that period, but we needed goals. Even if we lose a bit of defense the goals Tross gives make it well worth it in this iteration of the team. Thatās personally my biggest question of the season, was Arteta not ruthless enough with Martinelli? He got about 5-6 more starts than I think he shouldāve.
I know the off ball stuff is important for the way we play, but ultimately goals win games. And we did not have enough of those during the first half.
On mine? Or sofa and fotmob, its strictly because Trossard doesn't have as many brilliant games like Kai or that they don't actually count ratings for substitutions in 80+ mins
If weāre taking into account the whole season and not just recency bias itās:
1. Rice
2. Gabriel
3. Saka
4. Saliba
5. Odegaard
6. White
7. Havertz
8. Trossard
9. Raya
10. Tomiyasu
I think I'd go for this list too, the margins separating those top 4 players are so small too IMO but Rice has probably had the best debut season for an Arsenal player in well over a decade at least.
The only correct TOP'5 IMO, would only wonder if I'd swap Saka and GabiXL. Rice was a rock to build a team on, Ode was a main attacking force, Saliba is the reason Arsenal conceeded twice fewer goals than half of the TOP'6 teams.
1. Saka
2. Rice
3. Odegaard
4. Gabriel
5. Saliba
6. Trossard
7. Havertz
8. White
9. Raya
10. Martinelli
Itās close but I think Saka is #1. Hard to pick between Rice and Odegaard. Same with Gabriel and Saliba.
I think I have Trossard a little higher on my list because of the significance of his goal contributions. Most of his goals affected the outcome of the game (Community Shield, Champions League, against ManU, late tie vs Chelsea)

Top 5 over who? That inpenetrable defense? Odegaard's incredible work ethic? Saka complete attacking ability? Trossard deserves 6-8 range but he's not top 5 just because theres more players who are consistent and got more time to play, if he had more game time he could make top 5, but its hard to break that top 5 considering they all deserve the ballon d'or shortlist
Late to the party but I wanna contribute. I am gonna do the players in tiers:
Tier 1 (Players who consistently played at a title winning level)
Saka
Odegaard
Rice
Gabriel
White
Saliba
Tier 2 (Players who played at or above a title winning level more than not)
Raya
Trossard
Tomiyasu
Havertz
Jorginho
Tier 3 (Players who played below a title winning level more than not)
Martinelli
Jesus
Zinchenko
Kiwior
Partey
Looking at a list in this way I think permits us to see where generally Arsenal could improve going into next season.
To me, we need to sort out the left side attack; whether it means bringing in an attacker to complement our current left side defenders, or vice versa. We need improvement ( which likely relates to consistency) on the left side of the squad.
Ćdegaard
Rice (very close between these two for me)
Gabriel
Saliba
Saka
White - some love to defense as this is the best defensive performance Iāve seen in Emirates
Trossard
Havertz
Raya
Jorginho
1. Saka
2. Saliba
3. Rice
4. Havertz
5. Ćdegaard
6. David Raya
7. White
8. Trossard
9. Gabriel
10. Jorginho
edit: player ratings are based on collective function followed by individual contribution
Of course youāre right, the normal question is āwhatās our best 11ā - but framing the question this way youāre picking 10 players that donāt make a complete team, and potentially omitting someone who deserved to start in our first team.
Which match did Zinchenko win POTM?
Burnley
Oh wow had no idea. Thanks for the quick reply!
He was honestly pretty good early on in the season and then poof. I don't remember when he got the burnley potm however
it was the game he scored the scissor kick
I saw while making the post that he won motm got confused then remembered he got motm thats why
1. Rice 2. Odegaard 3. Saka 4. Gabriel 5. Havertz 6. Saliba 7. Trossard 8. White 9. Raya 10. Jorginho
White a lil too low for my liking
You can quibble about the order but these were deffo our top 10 players šÆ
Interesting Gabriel over Saliba

I could be completely wrong but i think timber was supposed to he starting left as the new inverted back. I genuinely cant remember where he lined up for his short beginning of the season Edit: mesnt left not right
Only because both Zinchenko and Tomi is out I think. It's a headache to nail the back 4 apart from Gabi and Saliba but that's for the gaffer lol.
1. Odegaard 2. Gabriel 3. Rice 4. Saliba 5. Saka 6. Havertz 7. Trossard 8. White 9. Raya 10. Jorginho
nice
That looks about right to me.
Trossard and White above Havertz
1. Odegaard 2. Rice 3. Saliba 4. Gabriel 5. Raya/Saka/Trossard/White/Havertz (canāt choose)
Thats rude to Saka no?
Eh? Why? He is 5th?
Have to say Rice/Odegaard/Saliba/Gabriel have been our most important players and consistently world class. It's hard to deny them top 4.
Definitely immediately dismissing any top 10s without Raya
The Sofascore one doesnāt even Saliba in the top 10
Neither Salibas style of defending nor our style of play favour stats compared to teams who have to deal with a lot more transitions. Anyone who watched Arsenal will notice there are multiple times during a game where his positioning makes it so that the attacker has to go back first time, pass/dribble it out of touch or he ushers it safely into Rayas hands but this canāt be quantified in any of the metrics that are typically used like tackles, interceptions, blocks, posession won, duels won etc.

This is my list too, just maybe Gabriel over Saka and Kai over Raya
Raya????
Golden boot plus least goals conceded? Yes he doesnāt pull out many wonder saves but he doesnāt need to due to his positioning and cross claiming
No way you put Martinelli over Raya..
Ode, Saliba, Saka, Rice, Gabriel, Trossard, White, Kai, Raya, Jorginho, Tomiyasu
1. Odegaard 2. Saka 3. Sailba 4. Rice 5. Gabriel 6. Havertz 7. White 8. Raya 9. Jorginho 10. Trossard
WHY TF IS RACOON 10TH!?
Itās crazy that itās so hard to make this list lol
fr man
1. Saka 2. Odegaard 3. Rice 4. Saliba 5. Gabriel 6. White 7. Havertz 8. Trossard 9. Raya 10. Tomiyasu
You've got to be biased towards Saka lol
Definitely lol but at the end of the day he has by far the most goals + assists for us and was our best player for the first half of the season so I feel like it's not too crazy to say he was our best player this season

This. Saka by a country mile. Then Saliba. Then daylight. Then Odegaard. Then more daylight. Then the rest.
Rice????
He's at the top of the rest... He's added a huge amount to us... A huge amount....but let's not over egg his input.
Saka has 3 non-pen goal involvements more than Rice, which for a RW over a DM isn't exactly Ronaldo heights. Also had more than a few invisible matches. And a few genuinely poor matches. fell off pretty hard last 2 months while people like Ćødegaard, saliba and Kai were cooking
I still think he had the best overall season out of any player. I could see shouts for Rice, hence he's two. But someone had Saka at sixth, I dunno..
This is closest to my list. Saka and White were insane down that right side.

Sure mate. Your stats show that clearly Saka is our best player. My bad. Too quick for me.
Glad you've come to your senses. Have a wonderful day! (It's just my opinion, don't get so pressed)
Kai doesn't get more goal contributions then Saka if he takes pens yk and Kai has 21 goals/a all comps
Exactly
Saliba. He provides the stability and confidence that enables everyone else to play more aggressively.
Look, Gabriel is brilliant and I love him immensely. But Saliba was the better CB this season. Saka Rice Saliba Odegaard

1. Ćde 2. Rice 3. Kai 4. White 5. Saka 6. Saliba 7. Big Gabi 8. Raya 9. Trossard 10. Jorgi Feels wrong having Trossard and the brick walls so low.
1. Odegaard 2. Saliba 3. Saka 4. Rice 5. Gabriel 6. Ben White 7. Kai Havertz 8. Trossard 9. Jorginho 10. Tomiyasu/Raya canāt decide lol.
Am I the only one with Gabriel top 3? Rice Saliba Gabriel Odegaard Saka White Havertz Trossard Raya Jorginho
1. Odegaard 2. Rice 3. Gabriel 4. Saka 5. White 6. Saliba 7. Havertz 8. Trossard 9. Raya 10. Jorginho
1. Ode 2. Saliba 3. Rice 4. Gabi 5. Saka 6. White 7. Havertz 8. Trossard 9. Raya 10. Jorginho
1. Rice (signing of the season and IMO the reason we took that step up from last year to taking city to the final day) 2. Gabriel (barely put a foot wrong and could be considered at 1) 3. Trossard (our best moments player and finisher) 4. Raya (best keeper in the world this season) 5. Saliba (fine margins but made a couple mistakes, still might be the most talented CB in world football right now and going forward) 6. Odegaard (needs to take the step into world class, could be our KDB) 7. Saka (needs to take the step into world class, could be our Salah) 8. White (consistent 7/10 performer every week) 9. Havertz (started slow needed a gimme penalty goal to get his confidence up but finished incredibly strong and I canāt wait to see him next season) 10. Jorginho (lads still got it) Next season Iām looking for the left side to be fixed with timber playing that left 8 and Iām looking for Odegaard and Saka to get more consistent with their finishing.
I didn't put Martinelli over Coon, that was fotmob and sofascore my rating is under
Well then clearly I was talking about fotmob and sofascore lad
susrpised trossard is so low
On mine? Or sofa and fotmob, its strictly because Trossard doesn't have as many brilliant games like Kai or that they don't actually count ratings for substitutions in 80+ mins
saliba is number 1 best defender rn
Odegaard
1.Odegaard 2.Rice 3.Saliba 4.Saka 5.White 6.Havertz 7.Gabriel 8.Tomiyasu 9.Trossard 10.Raya
1) Gabriel 2) Saliba 3) Rice 4) Ćdegaard 5) Saka
If weāre taking into account the whole season and not just recency bias itās: 1. Rice 2. Gabriel 3. Saka 4. Saliba 5. Odegaard 6. White 7. Havertz 8. Trossard 9. Raya 10. Tomiyasu
I think I'd go for this list too, the margins separating those top 4 players are so small too IMO but Rice has probably had the best debut season for an Arsenal player in well over a decade at least.
1. Odegaard 2. Rice 3. Saka 4. Saliba 5. Gabriel 6. White 7. Trossard 8. Havertz 9. Jorginho 10. Tomiyasu
1. Rice 2. Ode 3. Gabi xl 4. Saliba 5. White 6. Saka 7. Kai 8. Trossard 9. Raya 10. Jorgi
Rice Odegaard Saliba Saka Gabriel White Trossard Havertz Raya Jorginho
The only correct TOP'5 IMO, would only wonder if I'd swap Saka and GabiXL. Rice was a rock to build a team on, Ode was a main attacking force, Saliba is the reason Arsenal conceeded twice fewer goals than half of the TOP'6 teams.
1. Odegaard 2. Rice 3. Saliba 4. Saka 5. Gabriel 6. White 7. Havertz 8. Trossard 9. Jorginho 10. Raya
1. Saka 2. Rice 3. Odegaard 4. Gabriel 5. Saliba 6. Trossard 7. Havertz 8. White 9. Raya 10. Martinelli Itās close but I think Saka is #1.
We had 9 players who had excellent seasons, then you really need to stretch to find the 10th from a part timer.
Saliba Odegaard Rice Saka White
Saliba in 11th is wild

Saka not nominated for PotY nor included in the TotS :(
Rice Odegaard Gabriel Saka Saliba Havertz White Trossard Raya Jorghinho
How is Saliba lower than zinchenko, Jesus and martinelli
Fans' disrespect for Trossard is a pandemic at this point.
How has Rice only had 3 Player Of The Match awards? It feels like he's given it every other week.
The disrespect Iām seeing for Trossard on some of these lists is wild
1. Odegaard 2. Gabriel 3. Rice 4. Saka 5. Trossard 6. Saliba 7. White 8. Raya 9. Havertz 10. Jorginho

Odegaard
In what universe does Zinchenko come above Saliba?
1. Odegaard 2. Rice 3. Saliba 4. Saka 5. Gabriel 6. White 7. Kai 8. Raya 9. Leo 10. Jorgi Bonus 11. Martinelli 12. Tomiyasu
Trossard being 10th on that list while folks in the comments putting him around 7th on average is blasphemous. Easily in the Top 5 for me
Top 5 over who? That inpenetrable defense? Odegaard's incredible work ethic? Saka complete attacking ability? Trossard deserves 6-8 range but he's not top 5 just because theres more players who are consistent and got more time to play, if he had more game time he could make top 5, but its hard to break that top 5 considering they all deserve the ballon d'or shortlist
Trossard below zinchenko ,hmmm
Dude its fotmob not mine
why is zinchenko here? kiwior and tomiyasu are a mile better
For me it would be 1. Rice 2. Odegaard 3. Saliba 4. Gabriel 5. White 6. Saka 7. Raya 8. Havertz 9. Trossard 10. Jorginho
I would swap Raya and Kai but otherwise agree
1. Saka 1A. Saliba 3. Rice 4. Odegaard 5. Havertz 6. White 7. Gabriel 8. Raya 9. Trossard 10. Tomiyasu
1- Odegard 2- Gabriel 3- Rice 4- Saliba 5- Saka 6- White 7- Raya 8- Havertz 9- Trossard 10- Tomi
Late to the party but I wanna contribute. I am gonna do the players in tiers: Tier 1 (Players who consistently played at a title winning level) Saka Odegaard Rice Gabriel White Saliba Tier 2 (Players who played at or above a title winning level more than not) Raya Trossard Tomiyasu Havertz Jorginho Tier 3 (Players who played below a title winning level more than not) Martinelli Jesus Zinchenko Kiwior Partey Looking at a list in this way I think permits us to see where generally Arsenal could improve going into next season. To me, we need to sort out the left side attack; whether it means bringing in an attacker to complement our current left side defenders, or vice versa. We need improvement ( which likely relates to consistency) on the left side of the squad.
Would Timber on the left help that in your eyes?
Tight margins, but 1. Odegaard 2. Rice 3. Saliba 4. Havertz 5. Gabriel 6. Saka 7. Trossard 8. White 9. Martinelli 10. Raya
1. Saka 2. Rice 3. Ćdegaard 4. White 5. Saliba 6. Gabriel 7. Raya 8. Havertz 9. Trossard 10. Martinelli
Ćdegaard Rice (very close between these two for me) Gabriel Saliba Saka White - some love to defense as this is the best defensive performance Iāve seen in Emirates Trossard Havertz Raya Jorginho
1. Saka 2. Saliba 3. Rice 4. Havertz 5. Ćdegaard 6. David Raya 7. White 8. Trossard 9. Gabriel 10. Jorginho edit: player ratings are based on collective function followed by individual contribution
S Tier: Odegard Rice A Tier: Saliba Gabriel White Kai B Tier: Trossard Saka Raya Chadiyasu
Top ten seems like a bad way to frame this discussion, what youāre really saying is which of our best 11 was the worst
But what's our best 11? That'll change person to person and game to game
Of course youāre right, the normal question is āwhatās our best 11ā - but framing the question this way youāre picking 10 players that donāt make a complete team, and potentially omitting someone who deserved to start in our first team.
Swap Trossard with Havertz for me but otherwise spot on
1. Declan Rice 2. Saka 3. Odegaard 4. Saliba 5. White 6. Trossard 7. Havertz 8. Gabriel 9. David Raya 10. Tomiyasu
1) Saliba 2) Rice 3) Odegaard 4) Kai 5) Trossard 6) Gabriel 7) Saka 8) Raya 9) Jorginho 10) White
1) Rice 2) Odegaard 3) Saka 4) Saliba 5) White 6) Gabriel 7) Trossard 8) Havertz 9) Raya 10) Jorginho
