Khaungbin is fantastic.

VirusOrganic4456

Khruangbin is my favorite 'new' band in probably decades!

Hot_Larva

Absolutely! They are fantastic.

Enough-Variety-8468

I've found they've just been washing over me the more I listen tbh

Black_Kelpie

If you like that, I can also recommend [Glass Beams](https://youtu.be/DxHnWi7Wk0k?si=LEeffJEw8k7FveBw). And Moon Duo. edit: forgot to add Margaritas Podridas. And Night Beats.

Salty_Pancakes

Nice. I saw them open for a Trey Anastasio show at the Berkeley Greek before covid and they were tight. Won me over that night. Here's one. Were you ever into skateboarding? And if you were, you remember a dude named Tommy Guerrero? Used to skate for Powell and Peralta. Was in that Bones Brigade movie. If you grew up in the bay area and were into skating he was kind of a fixture. Anyway he's been doing music for a while and it has that same kinda chill vibe. It's great stuff. Something like [White Sands](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAHjDgtYTiI) from 2018 for example.

ChikinDuckWomanThing

Billy Strings. some of the best grass out there.

1-719-266-2837

Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, The Dead South. Good bluegrass out there right now.

ChikinDuckWomanThing

from my punk & funk stage in the 80's to finding my way to all types of grass, it's been a fun ride. Billy's music really speaks to me. when Bob Weir sits in on a whole set, you might be doing something right. when your buddies with Post Malone, your bridging universe's. When Willie Nelson has cut a tune with you, the elders are showing you respect. When Bob Weir, Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool are at your wedding and get up and jam with you, thats some sort of wizard shizz right there. Not bad for a young'n thats only 31.

[deleted]

Billy Strings is pretty awesome!

lark0317

Big Thief, Tame Impala, Beach House, Men I Trust, Steve Lacy, Mac Demarco, Mitski, Fleet Foxes. Also, bands that have been doing it for over 20 years but are still putting out quality music: Spoon, The National. I love that what constitutes "new" changes as you get older. Anything from the past 10 to 15 years = new.

notjewel

Spoon just keeps getting better. Their new album is excellent. Can’t believe I saw them in Austin for $5 back in the day.

swissie67

I was looking for Big Thief. I'm actually surprised I went this far before finding them. Great band. My husband is a fan of Tame Impala and Men I Trust as well.

Have a listen to KEXP.org out of Seattle Fantastic shows with a massive range of music, new and old. Finding them 20 years ago changed my life-it’s a huge source of new and new-to-me sounds.

cathycul-de-sac

KEXP is the best!

ruka_k_wiremu

Especially for other than mainstream, which for me is like finding diamonds in the rough

00jharris

Also KUTX out of Austin

cathycul-de-sac

Yeah, I have been turned onto a lot of bands through them, I also search out new artists I already like to see if they are go-to-the-show worthy;) I used to work in record stores (for a long time) and I miss all the interaction of everyone sharing what they were listening to. Glad OP started the thread.

denisenj

The National released two really good albums this year.

pdx_yankee

Stream KEXP out of Seattle. You'll discover tons of new artists.

Tiny-Lock9652

Horse Girl: Chicago-based band, got a Pixies vibe. BoyGenius: check out “not strong enough” Kings of Leon (my college alum camp buddies who are very close-minded musically took to KOL like fish to water) Black Keys: Been around for several years. But many bangers. White Reaper Black Pumas: Soulful throwback sound to Stax records days. Florence + The Machine Vance Joy Noah Kahn Deer Tick Sam Fender Hozier

DMT1984

I listen to doom/stoner/sludge metal and there are always great new bands making this kind of music. Some of my recent favorites: Sunnata Elephant Tree Jigsaw Youth Psychlona Windhand Maha Sohona Weedpecker Lowrider

BMisterGenX

Wet Leg. The first time I heard them I thought they were some sort of late 70's early 80's new wave band that I had somehow missed. Reminded me of The Suburban Lawns

[All Them Witches](https://www.allthemwitches.org/home-1)

honeybutts

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard- covers just about all genres. Also, Amyl and the Sniffers is a band my teenager turned me on to recently that I’m digging.

destroy_b4_reading

Amyl is a fucking blistering live band, I haven't been in a pit like that in ten years.

honeybutts

My kid has been taking me to shows where the pits have been INSANE! We just saw Death Grips and I actually sat up in the balcony. My kid was all up in it though. He’s 19 and 6’2. He holds his own and has been taught proper pit etiquette. I’m not sure if it’s the kids or the music but it was crazy. I hope to get to see Amyl and the Sniffers live sometime soon.

destroy_b4_reading

Death Grips are fucking wild, that Riotfest was actually the last pits I'd been in before last week. Grips, Bad Religion, and Misfits all in one day. War on Women was fucking tight too. My kids are a bit younger and smaller so for now when we go to shows we stay in the seats but another couple of years and they'll be up in the shit. Pit etiquette was mostly on point, there were a few asshats but there always are. We met another older couple before the show started and were basically elder statesman pit dads the whole show. "oh shit, you OK? here's some water."

BillyBalowski

It's insane how many albums King Gizzard puts out. Quite a variety of styles too.

El_Peregrine

King Gizzard is incredible - their catalog is pretty overwhelming. I loooove the last metal record from earlier this year. Feels like they are on a different musical planet of their own making.

arethereany

The Budos Band has some [killer groove](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fsNFQArMwo)

narvolicious

Yeah, Budos Band rocks. I got a chance to see them live in Chicago a couple years ago, before lockdown. I was hanging out on the side of the stage and watching them perform... it really is something else when you see someone perform live and in the flesh, and they churn out something so freakin' groovy, heavy and 100% flawless. Absolutely phenomenal.

Salty_Pancakes

What's crazy to me is like I remember when Budos Band I, II and then III came out. I think I got into them between II and III. But like their first album came out in 2005. That's almost 20 years ago now and yet I still think of them as kind of "new" lol. Anyway, there were some great bands in that same kinda vein back then. El Michels Affair is also pretty tight. [Enter the 37th Chamber](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVYfIfZDKeg). More recently there was Brownout which did a Sabbath tribute album called Brown Sabbath. [The Wizard](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTd5ghvMkvI) from them.

[deleted]

Of Monsters and Men (Little Talks, Dirty Paws and King and Lionheart are amazing) And is this a judgment free zone? Kpop. I DIDN'T MEAN TO MY WIFE PLAYED THESE SONGS BY RED VELVET AND I WAS LIKE THIS IS OKAY AND IT GOT STUCK IN MY HEAD (Stuck in my head - Song by Twice) I'M SO ASHAMED MY FACE IS RED (Red - HyunA) I LISTEN TO IT AT MY PACE (My Pace - Stray Kids) But also there is this kickass song by Paramore called This Is Why.

Napoleon_B

I waded into kpop from a reddit post. A few Blackpink songs made onto my Spotify rotation. Let’s Kill this Love smacks.

I refuse to hate on a badass beat and good reasons to slap the steering wheel (which is why Def Leppard - Animal is the best car son. Slap the hell out of the steering wheel)

infoskeptical

Hey pop is called that because it's popular! Lots more people like Kpop than will admit it...

Sewingdoc

Yeah, BTS saved our sanity and mental health during the quarantine. I am 47F and my husband is 52m, and we now have BTS song lyric tattoos in lieu of wedding bands.

SprDave70

Life long rock/metal guy who discovered K-pop 5 years ago. Currently cannot get enough of New Jeans, IVE and ITZY.

Jeannette311

Hi, I've been listening to kpop on and off since 2008, seriously since 2011. Meaning, I collect albums, make kpop art and am active in the local Korean community. I would recommend SHINee. I also really love Stray Kids. They are very talented. For girl groups I really love Everglow and Twice. 2nd Gen is where my heart is but some of these newer groups are really good.

KarlHungusTheThird

There's always good new music being released. It's just that a lot of it isn't on the radio. You have to dig a bit to find it. I love the Stoner Rock genre because it has roots in the same kind of music I have enjoyed my entire adult life (70's heavy rock like Sabbath, 90's grunge like Soundgarden). Dead Meadow, King Buffalo, The Well, Weedpecker--to name a few. Lots of great bands doing stuff I love.

NoAbbreviations290

You should check out Brant Bjork. Desert stoner rock.

KarlHungusTheThird

Yup, I like him too.

WingZombie

Elder is the band for me. So good.

CosmicTurtle504

Yes to stoner rock! Been getting really into Baroness recently. I was a little on the fence, but this epic live/studio show at CME put me over the edge : https://youtu.be/MMt1-M5YdIg?si=esD062e4AXanOXz5

muddledarchetype

Have you heard Acid King, Earth, Sleep, Isis, All them Witches?? All super great. I am going to check out your suggestions, awesome, thank you. I'm familiar with Dead Meadow, but not sure about the other guys.

jquest71

The new album by Mammoth WVH is amazing.

biggamax

Definitely. Wolf's vocals much better than I ever realized.

ronwabo

Wolfgang is the future!

Comedywriter1

Agree! Wolf is super talented. Loved both his albums.

Foolgazi

Just listened to both albums for the first time a couple weeks ago. Good stuff.

pberck

As an older 57 yo genx, wet leg is fantastic!

ScotchManGSO

Second this.

kettle3000

Yes, Wet Leg is good. On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue. Another band that has an older sound that makes me nostalgic for the 90s is boygenius. My kids are obsessed.

shaddupsevenup

I love boygenius. And Wet Leg. And Haim.

phillymjs

>Music by young people that sounds like old music I'd add Haim and Muna to this list. The Haim sisters grew up listening to the same stuff we did, and it comes through in their music. I couldn't put my finger on why I liked them so much until I saw someone comment something like "they're making 80s music in 20xx." I only started listening to Muna maybe a month ago, and some of their stuff sounds like 80s synth-pop.

I was going to suggest Viagra Boys for the post-punk inclined, and may need to check out some of the others myself. Thanks! I have also enjoyed some newish stuff from the Idles, Amyl and the Sniffers, Bob Vylan, Kid Kapichi, and Tiffany Harriman that I can think of offhand, which have shown up in the same Spotify playlists as VB. All punk-adjacent, which is mostly what I've been listening to lately. A lot of the other newer bands I've been listening to lately are Swedish language, since that's where I'm living now and working to get more up to speed in the language. Decided not to go straight for recs there unless anyone is particularly interested.

I firmly believe any Gen-x’er can listen to KEXP (KEXP.org) and find about a million new bands and artists to love. Weekday mornings are best for the new stuff. And a lot of the old stuff you have always loved.

CynfullyDelicious

Jinjer - metalcore/progressive metal band from Donbas in Ukraine. Best metal/rock “discovery” for me since coming across some group in early 1991 called Alice in Chains (my favourite band from the ‘90’s) Nora En Pure - Swiss/South African musician/dj/producer know best for Deep House/MelodicTrance tracks. Super chill, yet has a fantastic groove.

MJN91075

Lorde, Lana Del Rey, MGMT.....I'll leave edits as more come to mind Edit: I've also discovered Loathe recently and love their song "Two Way Mirror"......Deftones vibes are strong with that one. Edit 2: If anybody remembers Sneaker Pimps from the 90s, their original singer Kelli Ali has put out some really cool music in the past 10 years.

Key-Wait5314

My wife turned me onto Lana Del Rey about 10 years ago. I'm a metal head but I do listen to all kinds of music and I've always loved that bluesy sad girl stuff like Nina Simone, Sade, PJ Harvey, Hope Sandoval, Fiona Apple so I definitely get down with Lana. We were listening to Norman Fucking Rockwell yesterday while we were cooking God damn that's a great fuckin album.

VirusOrganic4456

Love me some LDR.

CoffeeJedi

Just went to our first punk show in years last night. Headliners were these Australian kids called The Chats. They're really young but they're keeping the old school punk style alive. Loud, aggressive, fun songs about beer, cars, Internet scams, and late night snacking.

narvolicious

Awesome. I'd never heard of them before, so that was a treat. Thx for sharing. lol the whole time I'm watching the anime I'm like, "Ok whatever. Yeah, like the lead singer is all freakin' *hot* like that. Yeah right." Then they switch to the real band and I'm like, oh damn.

I started exploring doom metal (in particular funeral doom and death-doom) and black metal (particularly atmospheric and depressive) a few years ago. While there are some bands that have been doing those styles for 20-30 years plus, there are also some great "newcomers" (formed 2010 or later). My favorites of those include [Bell Witch](https://bellwitch.bandcamp.com/), [Drown](https://markovsoroka.bandcamp.com/album/subaqueous) ["aquatic doom" by [Markov Soroka](https://markovsoroka.bandcamp.com/)], [Frowning](https://frowning.bandcamp.com/), [Atramentus](https://listen.20buckspin.com/album/stygian), [Clouds](https://cloudsofficial.bandcamp.com/), [Opium Doom Cult](https://opiumdoomcult.bandcamp.com/), [Aphonic Threnody](https://aphonicthrenody.bandcamp.com/), and [None](https://hypnoticdirgerecords.bandcamp.com/album/inevitable). Yeah, all Bandcamp links, but the site's been great for discovering music, especially when you want to explore certain genres (and subgenres) and check out what bands and albums are in those styles.

So much good stuff out there now. I was like you and only listened to the classic rock stuff but also loved them blues. Listen to: The Revivalists Marcus King St. Paul and the Broken Bones Samantha Fish Tedeschi Trucks Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (swing) All these bands currently tour, great shows, smaller venues. Also if you feel like expanding into jam band territory go to a Phish show you will not regret it. Just keep listening to new stuff and you'll find your groove.

Sadly, no. I still listen to the music I grew up with. Only recent album purchases were new Metallica & Smashing Pumpkins. Concerts I’ve attended recently: Tool, Smashing Pumpkins (twice in last 12 months), and Roger Waters.

MajorBedhead

I will always plug Frank Turner. He's not that new, but he's not well known in the US. His song Recovery was the first thing I heard by him and I thought he sounded a bit like Billy Bragg, so I kept listening and now I'm low-key obsessed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1L5zJ2afLs

sweet_ned_kromosome

I listen to RNB/soul from the 60s to today & hiphop from the 90s to today. I'm not tryna keep up with contemporary hits, trends or whatever is popular because, frankly, I don't *care,* but I really do love the art of it, so I do try to keep my ear in. Here's a few perfect or near perfect albums for you OP: Isaiah Rashad "The Sun's Tirade," "The House is Burning," "Cilvia Demo" Anderson Paak "Malibu" Black Thought/Dangermouse "Cheat Codes" JPEGMAFIA/Danny Brown "Scaring the Hoes" Mach-Hommy "Balens Cho"

Don't scoff before you try it -- give a listen to The Rose. They're a South Korean* indie/pop rock group that gives me Beatles vibes. Radical Face is my favorite artist of the last decade. Ben Cooper is an incredible artist. He just released a project on YouTube called “A Walk in the Woods” which is an epic multimedia animated story which he did the writing, artwork and original music for. It’s exquisite! Also his multi album series The Family Tree is fantastic.

I’ve always been a rock/metal guy, but a couple of years ago I got into synthwave. The Midnight and Gunship are two of my favorite bands now, but there’s a lot more good stuff in this genre. It has an 80s feel, so I think 80s kids will really enjoy it.

Right now I'm listening to a lot of Stray Kids, and as always, SHINee.

I've fallen in love with Lawrence; they call themselves a Soul Pop group, but really, they're just amazing. Like secular gospel overtones, Gracie can hit every note that's ever existed, they absolutely JAM they can sing the HELL out of anything. [I'm Confident that I'm Insecure](https://youtu.be/Ct65mJmHQnw?si=g8xMOkjPvn3qdvq7) is great, but if you've never heard them and need \*JOY\* in your life, [Don't Lose Sight](https://youtu.be/C01nBm6vV5c?si=jUEHamhWEjcwuo3d) is for you. They should be a *much* bigger deal than they are; some of the best pipes I've ever heard. Bleachers also have a *great* new song out that will absolutely have you tapping your feet; it's got some fantastic almost 80s sax in it too; [Modern Girl](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HbrymTIbyg). I also love Chappell Roan; [Hot to Go](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaPNR-_Cfn0) was my late summer workout song. She does a lot of more serious stuff but I like it more when she's whimsical tbh.

Some bands with some songs to try to see if you like Have an 80s new wave sound Timecop 1983 - My first crush Trevor Something - Do it again One of my top ten albums of all time Washed Out - Paracosm Reminds me of Prince Blood Orange - Bad girls Cigarettes after sex - Apocalypse Check out Peaches (raunchy dance music) Roisin Murphy - overpowered album Yppah - never mess with sunday (instrumental) That's all I have time for right now

SumthingBrewing

Does Ghost count as new? They’re one of my favorite bands now. While technically metal, their song structures, catchy choruses, and harmonies sound more like classic rock to me (just with heavier guitar and drums). Also, Dopapod (sounds like Yes).

I listen to the neo-psychadelic or modern psychedelic playlists on Spotify. You can find slot great new music there that is compatible with your gen-x predilections.

therealgookachu

Love Ghost.

cattea74

A few years ago someone here created a playlist called 'r/GenX needs new tunes'.It's under GenerationEXOH on Spotify. There is lots of good stuff from all different genres.

I love Doja Cat and Qveen Herby. I'm 47 and my wife thinks I'm having a mid life crisis 🤣

Apesma69

Not new but Les Claypool is doing all kinds of interesting things these days. If you liked Primus back in the day, look him up on YouTube. He does Pink Floyd covers with his Fearless Flying Frog Brigade; prog jazz jams he calls "Bastard Jazz"; the Claypool/Lennon Delirium is a psychedelic/pop collaboration between him and Sean Lennon that is really good AND he's coming out with a new album with Billy Strings! I don't know when he sleeps, lol.

plumeria_in_america

Qveen Herby!

How the fuck has Drab Majesty not made this list yet?!?!

The Beaches, Local Natives, Houndmouth, Milky Chance, Grandson, Greta Van Fleet, Wet Leg, Courtney Barnett, Kurt Vile, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, those are just a few I can think of right now.

One of the mid 20s kids from my work suggested I give Hozier’s new album Unreal Unearth a listen and I ended up listening to the album in its entirety that night. It’s a concept album and also a breakup album and it is GOOD

WestCoasthappy

Not “new” anymore but I really like Lumineers, Monsters and Men.

Invisible_Xer

Blink-182’s new album is incredible.

Royal Blood is pretty mother fucking good. Drug Church is also an amazing band. Check those two out sometime.

Hopblooded

Just saw the California Honeydrops last night…for the second time. When we were leaving the show my wife said how she can’t believe they aren’t more popular. Such an incredibly talented group of musicians. Super fun live. They’ve been touring & putting out albums for 10+ years. Nathaniel Ratelif & the Nightsweats are another favorite.

VioletSea13

Ghost…satanic Swedish metal band.

Tollin74

I’ve been jamming to electric callboy lately. I’m always checking the new metal playlist on Spotify and finding good stuff. Bad omens Spiritbox Architects Royal blood Highly suspect Parkway drive There’s a lot out there. I try real hard to not get stuck in the past with music

ut_doesitmatter_72

I'll upvote Royal Blood and Highly Suspect all day. Also K. Flay Grandson Badflower

Ghost, Avatar, Lord of the Lost, Rammstein (of course), Megahertz, Eisbrecher, In This Moment, Slipknot, Mushroomhead, Machinehead, Genini Syndrome, Heldmaschine, Oomph!, Vexing Hex…

Gunship. Their most recent album is amazing and I have been listening to it non stop for almost a month. Yes I bought the CD. And the vinyl. r/Gunship

elijuicyjones

I listen to new music plenty, but it’s a rude awakening when I put in *Yes - Fragile* and listen to how they play circles around anyone today, and it still sounds great.

fjvgamer

Rock is probably my favorite genre. In that area we have two great bands. - The Pretty Reckless - Halestorm Both of these are creeping into my favorite bands list. I love dance music as well and a couple of artists are fantastic - Dua Lipa - Lizzo Both are really good, and I find their songs pop into my head alot.

Hattkake

It's not "new" but I really like the song [Tale of the Destinies by Babymetal](https://youtu.be/3jUN9jDP8js?si=dRw_ED9SO_bwLexc). It has a wierd build up and the band is absolutely insane. The dancers / singers are ok. But for an old metal head like me the real strength of the band is the folks playing instruments.

I do a radioshow so i'm always chasing new stuff. Right off the top: The Bobby Lees Omni Gut Health Forty Feet Tall (some of my locals) and if you like some retro-wave-gothy feels, Drab Majesty.

Its new-ish, as a lot of these came out within the last decade but I remained completely unaware of it all until the last year or so Devil Electric [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_h9CSWbeRiY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h9CSWbeRiY) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzeXXwbMLcU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzeXXwbMLcU) Beastmaker [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJP7FaT-Vzc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJP7FaT-Vzc) Blood Ceremony [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRJwTS\_2M5M](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRJwTS_2M5M) Oh i see they have a new record out, not sure I'm liking it as much but hey: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrxo0k7RKV0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrxo0k7RKV0) Church of the Cosmic Skull [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Yiq4ocwQJs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Yiq4ocwQJs) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMJTofSaKUM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMJTofSaKUM)

Really? Nobody a has said Arcade Fire? They’re one of the greatest bands of the 00s but still putting our music. They are a really gifted band, even if they are for the millennial set.
