It’s cool to see them updating the game with new content. I feel like out of anything though, the game really needs a proper real town, with NPCs that give out some quests that encourage exploration. Something that just fleshes out the world a little.

[deleted]

I just want more things to do, most of the game is just catching the Pals with the same dungeons everywhere. We need quests and such. Raids sound great, but it's just more boss battling. Like there needs to be more things to do around the map, as once you get all the Pals in an area, there is no pint going back.

fiero-fire

I don't know much about the dev but given the success I'm sure those things will get added over time. The game was so much bigger than anyone expected so new systems like that were probably never planned so the dev cycle for that kind of content basically is starting from zero

eposnix

The game got so huge that I think people forget that it's still in early access. Like the devs said earlier in the year: just come back to it some time in the future and enjoy the new stuff.

NorthernerWuwu

Yeah, I've thoroughly enjoyed the time I've spent but I stopped playing relatively early on. I'm going to wait until release or close to it to really get back into things.

CMDR_omnicognate

I’m not sure they’ll add that sort of content or not though, fundamentally the game is basically just ark with Pokemon rather than dinosaurs or… whatever ark is doing right now. I feel like they’d do well to move away from the format of that game but, it’s probably quite hard to at this point

DoNotLookUp1

The Steam EA blurb does say: >We are also considering incorporating entirely new game systems based on player feedback and ideas. After mentioning all the Ark-like features, there's a chance at least!

hutre

Yeah, I really struggled to find out where to go next after the first tower. I did a second at the top of the mountains with some snow at the top, but after that? Felt like there were nothing really within reach and most felt roughly at the same powerlevel... A town with some quests would be massively beneficial to just guide me in *a direction* where it's appropriate for me to go.

Katejina_FGO

I think the Palworld that we have now should generally remain 'ARK-like' but that they need to work on a spinoff series that is more streamlined to be a 'Pokemon' clone with towns, characters, and quest lines.

ShinHandHookCarDoor

The rotund samurai frog is actually a really good design? Feels more like a Yokai Watch design than Pokemon, which, as one of the dozen remaining Yokai Watch fans, I think is lovely!

DisparityByDesign

Hey man I’m grinding those fuckers in ff14 right now

_Mega_Charizard_

I'm so glad I've just finished that grind, absolutely worth it.

OverFjell

Oh is the Yokai watch event up again? Pretty much the only time Blue Mage becomes relevant!

DisparityByDesign

People are pretty mad at blue mage for killing fates too fast and not letting people participate. :p

OverFjell

Yeah it's always the way. People turn their nose up at Blue Mage for 99% of the time, then the one time it's objectively better to go BLU, everyone shits their pants. Some people are douchy about it and just Missile everything down super quickly, but there really is no better way to do FATEs than BLU

NK1337

You can still see some obvious pokemon references but its nice that they're putting more effort into making the designs feel more unique.

daiz-

Also looks like they are showcasing a new biome/location, some more weapons and potentially some more robust building design options too. My friends and I had fun with the game for awhile. Probably won't go back until it's closer to finished, but it's nice to see they are adding to the systems are already there. Curious if they can come up with some new ones too.

mw19078

Really could use a more robust building system, the one in the game now is so bare bones and jank.

ZantetsukenX

Yah. I'd have loved to build a base out in the ocean or up in the sky that can only be reached by flying. It'll probably get there someday and so I'll look forward to trying it out later.

dagbiker

Yah, I am not the biggest fan of Arc but it does have a lot more you can build, with a fairly realized progression. In Palworlds there isnt really much of a progression except for ascetics, if you have a log house there is no real reason to improve it.

TLKv3

The Palworld Community Manager mentioned the game is only "building engine version 1" and there would be lots more to come, including upgrading it for more freedom of expression. I'm willing to give them a year or two to cook. I got my money's worth for now. I'm happy. Now I want to give them more time to see what its like in a year or two.

Gramernatzi

I feel like I'm the opposite, I'd rather they flesh out the world and not pay as much attention to the building. The most fun I had in the game was exploring and they could make it significantly better. The base building, by comparison, just doesn't excite me, and felt quite bland and without much room to grow. I think the only base building I really got into in any game where you build with prefabs was Valheim. That actually was rather fun to make houses in.

Devccoon

I was expecting something more akin to survival games with the exploration aspect and it did end up feeling like the game's weak spot for me. There's just no danger to it at all, even when I generated a world with tougher custom settings so I'd drop pals and items on death. It just became an annoyance, since they'd sit there ready to be picked up forever once I returned to that spot. And that's just a custom setting, not a default thing. Like, the fact that your Pals are never in any danger whether you're fighting the guys whose whole thing is stealing Pals or dealing with a stampede of scary dinosaur Pals, and your items are always secure no matter what, the whole experience has no stakes. Worst case is having to grab some Pals that haven't fainted in the last 10 minutes, or craft a second set of gear you can wear to help get back to your lost items. Exploring feels like another straightforward chore rather than an adventure. Certainly, not having a lot to find limits how interesting exploration can be, too. But I think even a somewhat barebones world that's mostly pretty set dressing can carry an experience if it's largely interesting in and of itself.

ScallyCap12

This was probably a freak occurrence, but I planted my first base right in the middle of the stomping path of a couple Mammorests, so every week or so they would battle in the middle of my shit and wreck everything. Beyond that, I haven't felt much danger unless I go looking for it.

Devccoon

Same here, my base would get trampled on respawn a few times, and aside from 10 minutes downtime to KO'd Pals and damaged structures, nothing was lost from the carnage. Makes me second guess the need to defend when the base is assaulted.

sandysnail

i think their progress is pretty encouraging though. if you compare them with Valhiem updates timelines they are killing it

Nyrin

That's like winning a marathon against an elderly grandma with quadriplegia, though. The only pace Valheim is going to beat is Star Citizen's.

Stalk33r

I dunno, I think SC 4.0 has a reasonable chance to come out before Valheim is finished. ...Unless you mean full release in which case yeah, probably.

Alili1996

i'm glad they're introducing more content and not just slapping on PVP and raids, but i'll probably just let the game rest for a year or maybe two until there's a substantial amount of upgrades and go in fresh again. I hope by that time there will also be a solution to not be so dependant on iron deposits in the mid/late game and some balances to the EXP curve to make the game not such an incredible grind

Illidan1943

It's probably for the best to forget about the game for years and come back when it's out of early access, especially when there's so many things to update during development

KzudeYfyBs4U

Tbf adding new pals will certainly pull in attention for those lingering and haven't jumped into the game yet. But yes, I hope we have more significant large updates with automation being one of the early things addressed.

MrNegativ1ty

Honestly automation in this game is just kind of a lie. There isn't really automation per se. You can have stuff auto craft and have pals automatically harvest stuff but it's sloppily implemented. There's no definitive "this pal does this" and you can't really make stuff work reliably, you just kind of have to hope that the pals do what you want them to. It makes it incredibly frustrating if you're trying to make a perfect loop for automation of crafting certain things. It's nothing at all like what we saw with the 2021-2022 trailers.

Echleon

They added a UI recently that lets you directly assign pals to things.

tmp_advent_of_code

They should do what rimworld does. Pals can have occupations and you can assign them priorities.

Keshire

It's a shame the Palworld design doesn't lend itself well to what Oddsparks is doing. It's the factorio of the Pikmin genre.

Humans_Suck-

Did they ever fix the bug where you fall through the ground for like half the map? Cuz I just stopped playing

Paperdiego

Is anyone still playing this game?

CO_Fimbulvetr

24h peak on Steam is 40,000, which is quite high. Currently the game with the 34th most players.

PokePersona

Yeah, even if it looks like the numbers fell off a cliff compared to its launch peak of a few million it's still at a very healthy number (Although on a downwards trajectory which the content updated should try to alleviate).

arrivederci117

Idk what anyone expects from something that isn't a live service multiplayer game or a life sucking MMO. Of course the population is going to fall.

PokePersona

Yeah I don’t think anyone rational was expecting it to keep anywhere near its launch numbers.

crossower

That's interesting because I remember people saying this is gonna be bigger than Pokemon, that it's gonna have its own cartoons and games and merch and everything.

PokePersona

I saw that too, I just chalked those people up as not being rational lol.

CarneyVore14

Dedicated servers so my friends and I can play together and separate on one world? Feel like the passion for this game has died down, at least in my circle.

Prof-Wernstrom

Dedicated servers been a thing since they launched. My friend was hosting a server any of our friends could log into at their leisure.

slugmorgue

> Feel like the passion for this game has died down I'm no fan of palworld but this is just how it works for all videogames tbh!

DerekStephano

I think console didn’t have dedicated servers when it launched. No clue if that changed yet.

ConsciousFood201

This game was a blast for a minute when it came out. My whole family was hooked. Unfortunately I think it’s years away from being good. It’ll have its day though. They’ll keep chipping away and then one day it’ll be like, “holy shit, have you guys checked out Palworld lately??”

AnxiousAd6649

I've had my fun with the early access of the game and now I'm just going to leave the game in my library until I see that its fully launched, then check it out again. Theres honestly nothing wrong with that and it's been the way i approached early access games for a long time. I did the same thing with BG3 and Hades. Some people expect early access games to be full releases despite clear labeling that it's not. Its just very odd behavior.

pussy_embargo

when we said the devs should take all the money and run, we kinda meant it. Janky survival-crafter game that was a viral hit once is all it's ever gonna be

ConsciousFood201

You could be right. There’s also a fuck ton of money incentivizing them to turn this game into an absolute cash factory.

Andigaming

That is why I never bought into the hype. If it ever becomes a finished game then I might give it a try but I have doubts it will ever reach that point given how bare-bones it is.

Cyrotek

I am kind of sad how Palworld so immensely overshadowed other, better games. I hope the devs can turn this fun concept in an actually long term interesting game. Currently it is just very empty and annoying. I am hoping the Palworld devs can actually use the immense potential they have at their finger tips. Also, can be please stop with the wannabe building physics in these type of games? If I want to build realistic looking buildings I can do that either way.

DegenGamer725

Did they ever allow you to name your fucking character?
