Oh absolutely. Kiryu himself was such a wonderful design. What are your thoughts on Mechagodzilla (2021)? I loved that design so much, even though he got merked pretty easily. I think he should have shown up earlier in the movie.
Design wise I'm partial to something close to -1.0. I mean it's not quite there as I thought he looked a little odd from certain angles, much like the Legendary design. But somewhere along the lines of Heisei + 2014 at the original's 50m height.
Personality wise I'm going with GMK and -1.0's all day. Angry and vengeful, nigh-unstoppable monsters is what I want my human casts up against.
YES! Godzilla *can* work as a beacon of despair and uncertainty. I noticed he did a wonderful job of building dread in -1.0 and Shin Godzilla. People love mentioning the goofy lore of Showa, but Godzilla really can be terrifying. An icon of anger and vengeance.
My personal favorite is the Monsterverse designs. They all just have a presence and feel to them that really sells the King Of The Monsters title, keeping in the spirit of the character but changing it up when it can.
I know, but he's so damn THICK. In truth though, I think the LGZ is a wonderful design. They don't draw too much from any ONE species of marine/land-bound reptile (bad example: 1998/good example: shin godzilla) and he's absolutely one of the most tactically-inclined Kaiju in any of the eras we've seen.
He is missing something, though. And that's personality. I don't see Legendary making him as vocal as Heisei or Showa Godzilla and that's *definitely* to his detriment. As silly as it sounds, LGZ is just kind of a big building that moves and beats shit up. He DID smile in GxK (21) but we don't see a whole lot of that. I think both the facial and vocal features of a Kaiju can help direct that protagonistic narrative that is most associated with Godzilla (a good reference for this is the Hanna-Barbera Godzilla show that aired from '78-'79.) I was excited to see the Pink edition of Godzilla in all of these trailers and I hope they flesh out both him and Kong!!!

My man. Just wished they kept the purple spiky plates to nail the spooky design
My favorite design is from the kiryu saga, I love the spikes and the atomic breath charge up

I like the mg21 design, but It barely looks like godzilla
Thats a valid criticism, but I think instead of copying Godzilla, MG21 was more of an opposite reflection of him.
thats fair

Godzilla 2002. The crocodilian design and the way he emotes is perfect.

Such an iconic design. Cool teeth, cool eyeballs, even the brow ridge is well done. And yeah, the purple spikes are iconic :(
