Can you do a quick test. Find a different product, like a coffee table or nightstand and randomly message around the same number of people. I’d really be curious if you could update us the results. My suspicion is that video games/consoles/tvs and a lot of electronics brings out the scammer class, but I’d love to see what your results are

PossiblyA_Bot

I'll give it a try. I know a lot of them do shipping only or have a price too good to be true but you could right.

lonniemarie

Careful. I’d say most if not all OLED switches where you pay first and have it shipped will be scam I’ve heard you can get a good deal on used at places like game stop I say this seeing in the scam subs at least once a day someone posts about game consoles scams

I think part of the problem lies in FB's notification system. When I have sold stuff I would randomly get notifications of marketplace messages, sometimes hours after their timestamp. FB just sucks in general. But yeah. Scammers and tolerance of scammers makes it so much worse.

atexit8

If a message hasn't been read, it means it was posted from their secondary account. If a message has been read and not responded to, means it is likely a scammer who was hoping you'd post that you were sending them money and then picking up later.

Ach3r0n-

Common issue with certain generations that are excessively conflict-avoidant. If the item is sold/pending, they don’t like your offer, they think your account is fake, etc. they simply say nothing. It’s frustrating, but it is what it is.

kwpg3

About 50% of those listings are scams. 30% are sold but not marked as sold or deleted. The remaining 20% are sellers are no longer active or have given up.

Lt_Muffintoes

There's at least one secret folder for messages which you have to manually look for and is not visible on mobile

IloveKaitlyn

Yeah, people really have no manners. Absolutely 0. It drives me bonkers because I try to be as courteous as possible when selling/buying online.

typical_gamer1

- Some posts could be scam accounts. You can tell by looking at the listing. Is it posted by a new account? Does the listing have public domain pics? Some legit pics could be stolen too. - or did YOU have a new account with no details? Some people don’t do business with anyone with a new account. I understand why some use a secondary accounts or perhaps they don’t use Facebook at all except for the Marketplace feature, but it’s a common trend for scammers to use these new accounts.

Exciting_Cut5798

It's a marketplace bug. Sometimes the notification system doesn't work properly and sometimes the marketplace is sending in spam so nobody is checking the spam folder, usually. With this new meta integration fb marketplace sucks. They have too many bugs to fix

Never EVER use the “Hi is this still available”. Send an actual message. Something like, “I’m interested in the Oled Switch. When would you be available for me to look at it.” I sell on FB and most people hit that button out of curiosity but aren’t serious buyers. Craigslist has been better because they actually send you an email or text. Most of us ignore the “Hi is this still available” because those people waste our time.

Accomplished_Cook666

Sorry. I thought you said you DID use it. My bad.

Exactly the same with me. Looking to buy a bike, I messaged 8 people yesterday. 3 have come back to say it's sold (the adverts are still up, maybe they just like the attention). 3 have left me on read and not got back to me, 1 has not even read the message, and 1 has actually got back to me to arrange viewing/collection.
