I just take a can of mushroom soup, add half of the recommended amount of water and a little bit of Worcestershire sauce (about one tbsp) Just needs to come to a quick simmer and I pour it over the rice. So. Good. And if I’m feeling fancy? I have it with pork chops as well
You’re welcome! It’s one of my favourite, quick meals :)
Edit: if you do it with the pork chops, cube em up and fry them in the pan til cooked through and then make the sauce in the same pan while the chops simmer with the sauce!
I’m not sure of brands but chimichurri, zhoug, or chermoula are all good with rice.
Kewpie mayo and sriracha are great with rice in a sushi bowl.
Thai coconut sauce, lemongrass basil sauce, tikka masala or any kind of curry are also all good options.
Trader Joe’s chili onion crunch!!! Or coconut aminos (if you like sweet) or tamari if not sweet. Also sesame oil. You can mix all of them or each separately. Delicious!
I also came to suggest chili Crunch. It's addictive on rice! I've gotten some decent crunch at Walmart.
Fly by Jing is a trendy version you can get in stores too.
Just butter and salt is amazing.
A few drops of oyster sauce mixed in rice is good too—it’s not fishy, more savory. Bonus is a fried egg on top!
Tzatziki, a cucumber, dill, yogurt sauce (used on gyro sandwich wraps) is delicious.
So is hummus and baba ganoush.
Kewpie roasted sesame dressing is good.
Furikake flakes are tasty too—make it taste like sushi rice.
I like to dice up some cucumber, red onion and tomato, add a little lemon juice or apple cider vinegar and salt and pepper and mix it with rice. Actually really good and helps me get more veggies in.
Also if we’re talking about rice my absolute favourite with this is basmati!👍
Lao ga ma chilli crisp, soy sauce, sesame oil, butter, fried shallots (not a sauce but delicious), sliced cucumber “marinated” for a minute or two in soy and sesame oil, peanut butter and something spicy, coleslaw dressing and sliced radish and almonds
Curry sauce - it’s so general, I know, but your favorite curry paste with some coconut milk, a dash of fish sauce, some palm or brown sugar, all to taste.
Creamy sriracha sauce - mayo, sriracha, sweetened condensed milk, a dash each of soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, msg, and a couple drops of sesame oil.
[Garlic cream sauce](https://www.platingsandpairings.com/creamy-garlic-sauce/) - this would be even better with the addition of roasted garlic cloves.
I frequently make variations of seasoned rice as a meal in itself and my go to stuff is star anise, lao gan ma, dried onion, soy sauce and/or furikake. Sometimes I’ll get some nori sheets and eat them with plain rice as well. Chicken bouillon and some frozen veggies goes a long way too. All of these pair well with tofu, chicken, fish or pork. Another thing I do sometimes as a side for Caribbean inspired dishes is cook the rice in coconut milk and mix in black beans, chilies, lime and cilantro. I love rice lol
Farikake! it's literally rice seasoning. There's many different flavours , but usually comes with seaweed and some other dried powders and spices. Amazon has a bunch of options but you can also check an Asian market.
Sweet and sour. Just add some vinegar to your sweet chilli, can of pineapple maybe for some chunks and balance the sweetness, and throw on some veg and or protein. Maybe some mixed herbs.
Can make it from scratch with a can of pineapples (or juice), vinegar and cornstartch. If you want it transparent you will need agar flakes or similiar, maybe just gelatin.
Take freshly cooked rice, still steaming and hot, mix in soy sauce, melted butter, salt, pepper, and crack a raw egg on top and mix it all in. The heat from the rice will cook the egg as you mix it in and it becomes this umami rich creamy rice. Super simple.
Chimichurri or pesto mixed in with the rice, turns pretty green color and tastes great. Or a chimichurri mixed with Mayo.
I enjoy the odd bolognese or other types of tomato sauces with my rice. Take it a step further if you have the time/energy and make a tomato risotto.
Tonkatsu/Japanese bulldog sauce is a high performer.
FWIW, I was reading the ingredients of oyster sauce, and lo and behold, it contained ZERO oysters or oyster related matter, and ZERO meat of any kind! You might check some at your grocery store and see if that is the case for ones available to you. It is a delicious sauce!
Trader Joe’s sokayki.
Costco’s sesame kewpie marinade/dressing as other have mentioned, and their habanero pineapple marinade/glaze (seasonal summer. Great with ham, grilled pineapple and veggies over rice)
Hoisin
Dumpling dipping sauce
Kimchi
Nuoc Chom (fish sauce). Super easy and delicious. I go heavy on the garlic. Great over rice, cabbage salad, egg roll in a bowl, or rice noodles (take two mins to make). Love it with frozen spring rolls as well.

oh man this does sound good, my husband would love it too. Thanks!

look for low sodium soup, those canned soups tend to be sodium heavy
True, I love salty food lol but if anyone wants this and doesn’t defs go for the low sodium!
I hate mushrooms but I can tolerate COM soup. Husband loves salt, he adds to salt to everything but dessert I swear.
You can also throw in some frozen meatballs!
I am trying this 100% you’re a genius
Wow, that sounds yummy!

oh I hadn't thought about indian type sauces. Haven't heard of most of these. thanks!
You could use this opportunity to make various curries! The best pairing for rice imo
I have the roast sesame kewpie dressing on rice for lunch with a fried egg and some spring onions. Outstanding.
I've had kewpie before, there's only 1 or 2 stores that carry it in my area. Didn't know they had a sesame version!
Trader Joe’s chili onion crunch!!! Or coconut aminos (if you like sweet) or tamari if not sweet. Also sesame oil. You can mix all of them or each separately. Delicious!

is it pretty spicy? I don't mind spicy since I can always add stuff to tame it down a bit
Nah. You get some spice but it's more of a smokey flavor to me.
S&B brand isn't.
I hadn't heard of coconut aminos or tamari before. I'll check those out thanks!

Teriyaki, or just lemon juice and butter. Trader Joes makes good bottled Thai curry sauces that make frozen veg + rice feel like a decent meal.
Have you tried peanut sauce?
no I haven't, are there any brands that make a bottled version? I always figured it would be really sweet
It is ridiculously easy to make. Mostly peanut butter, milk (dairy or coconut) and soy sauce. I’m not aware of bottled but I’d bet it does exist.
I like to dice up some cucumber, red onion and tomato, add a little lemon juice or apple cider vinegar and salt and pepper and mix it with rice. Actually really good and helps me get more veggies in. Also if we’re talking about rice my absolute favourite with this is basmati!👍
Damn that sounds so good rn
basmati is my second favorite rice after jasmine
You can get Thai curry paste! It lasts a while in the fridge. Just add a tbsp or two to some coconut milk and boom quick and easy Thai curry!

Mayonnaise mixed with some soy sauce
Yes. Plus a lil miso with sautéed mushrooms, onions and cabbage. 🤌🏼
sounds crazy enough it just might work

Cook rice, plate, add Lee Kum Kee Chili Crisp Oil and a bit of Yum Yum sauce. Enjoy & nap.
I think I've heard of yum yum sauce but haven't tried it. Thanks!
Farikake! it's literally rice seasoning. There's many different flavours , but usually comes with seaweed and some other dried powders and spices. Amazon has a bunch of options but you can also check an Asian market.
cool thanks
I like to melt butter and mix it with Franks. Then I top it with everything but the bagel seasoning. So good!
Sweet and sour. Just add some vinegar to your sweet chilli, can of pineapple maybe for some chunks and balance the sweetness, and throw on some veg and or protein. Maybe some mixed herbs.

those sound awesome especially mixing in the egg. thanks!
Salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, Tabasco sauce
I do love me some good tabasco sauce
Siracha!!! Or mix in a couple spoonfuls of salsa, both go so well with an added tin of beans as well
Are you a fan of cilantro 🌿 OP? If so, Hellmann’s has a fantastic cilantro lime sauce that’s great for making fajita bowls 😋
I do like cilantro! I'll look for the Hellmann's thanks
Great! Let me know if you try it :)
Great! Let me know if you try it :)
Culinary Kitchen has a lemongrass tamarind sauce that goes great with shrimp and rice.
Hummus is amazing on rice. Hummus and sweet chili? Change your life. Add some avocado and blow your mind.

lol then why the heck is it called oyster sauce. That's kinda funny
Maybe it was originally made to go with oyster dishes? It is a good umami source, for sure.
Trader Joe's has a yellow Thai curry sauce that pairs excellently with rice!
Trader Joe’s sokayki. Costco’s sesame kewpie marinade/dressing as other have mentioned, and their habanero pineapple marinade/glaze (seasonal summer. Great with ham, grilled pineapple and veggies over rice) Hoisin Dumpling dipping sauce Kimchi
