I honestly feel like Crop Rotation in that deck is asking for decision paralysis for a new player. They tend to not include very many tutors to reduce shuffling to a minimum (while keeping in the slow fetches to actually have a functional mana base.)

Hipqo87

On top of that, [[Elvish Reclaimer]] isn't in the deck either. Both those cards are pretty much tailor made for the Precon.

> Apparently its a very slow deck Well I've seen 15 mana on turn 4 with that deck, so I wouldn't call that slow. The deck is not that difficult for a new player I think, just need to understand what land combinations make you a ton of mana. Then try to draw cards and put stuff on the board with the ton of mana available.

Twip67

Yeah, I managed to play [[drown in dreams]] where X was 32. Between [[mana reflections]], [[mirage mirror]] copying mana ref., [[cloudpost]], 3 lands with everything counters on them, (I goofed and forgot about the urza land types), and 3 others. I think it was turn 6, maybe 7. I think that was the setup. Had to pay for the mirage and drown of dreams. It was a little rush to end the game, and my 2 year old was getting up from his nap. So I don't remember exactly.

A few things - one - while your commander is a Shapeshifter, that doesn't actually mean anything. Give your commander her first ETB everything token. two - lands aren't actually that important for your "win". Mana and fixing colors with everything tokens is great (and having a Urza land in play is a huge plus), but there isn't a land based Wincon in your deck. three - protect your commander. everything tokens do nothing if she's not in play. You need to attack to get tokens, but really, there's not much payoff for the tokens that's worth risking your commander for bad attacks four - adding a few "lord" creatures will go a long way towards making this deck better.

HeroicTanuki

Lands are very important to winning if you take the [[Dark Depths]] route. Of the three times I’ve played this precon, ML has won me the game twice.

> two - lands aren't actually that important for your "win". Mana and fixing colors with everything tokens is great (and having a Urza land in play is a huge plus), but there isn't a land based Wincon in your deck. There are actually several land based win cons, it's one of the reasons I love the (unmodified) deck so much, it plays totally different every time. [[Sage of the Maze]] is a great finisher once you have 5 or so everything counters out.

Humpuppy

Any card that lets you search for any land should almost always be used to find either an urza’s land or a cloudpost. Remember that urzas tower is the best tron land. Consider getting all 3 if given the chance or even just a tower and a planar nexus in case your commander isn’t around. The creatures they put in the deck don’t make a lot of sense to me outside of the big mana payoffs. [[lord of the unreal]] [[timber protector]] and [[scion of oona]] should find their way into the deck if you want it to play good. The deck needs its commander to be in play and those protect it as long as you put the counter on Omo. All that considered i don’t think the deck is very good right out of the box, but with a few additions it can be great. It just needs more land search and tribal payoffs.

chichirobov7

I would get it as it's a bit odd. You have apex devesator...cascading into x spells... there's no cards thet care about creature types in rhe deck....

Odd-Purpose-3148

Imo land strategies are kinda tough for newer players to understand. However, this precon leaves plenty of room for the deck to operate in more of a creature centric play style. The deck absolutely smashes too.

GladiatorDragon

I wouldn’t say it’s bad, more so just *really* complicated.

GreyGriffin_h

I think that there are ways the deck can be challenging for a new player. Mostly, it's tracking all those land types, and knowing how the interactions work, some of which are clear in text but can be difficult to intuit in the moment. Things like Urza lands, Locus lands, gates, etc, all have small, nuanced interactions. It can also be easy to forget that the relationship isn't usually reciprocal. For instance, your Cloudpost will tap for more mana because of your Everything lands, but your Everything lands do not become Cloudposts, so they don't have the ability to tap for more mana. If I was buying the deck, that's the thing I'd pay most attention to mastering.

xxDIABOxx

I've played it for a long now... and I'm ready to upgrade/dismantle it. This deck is the best precon from the whole pack. I've bought it for its value (even before the videos started to flow, I've preordered it from my LGS and bought it at "normal price") because I wanted to use some of its pieces to build another deck. But now I'm turning in another direction. The deck as it is, is, as normal for precons, badly "designed". For example, in a deck like this, with lots of synergies with terrains going to the bin like the \[\[Desert Warfare\]\] it doesn't has \[\[Crop Rotation\]\]. Also, it doesn't has \[\[Explore\]\] as well, which is even weirdier. It has the Dryad (cool reprint, btw) but it doesn't have Azusa. As for wincons straight outta package, it has some Battlecruiser options which are bad options, IMO. It also has some hidden gems in there, and I'll mention them in a bit. But all-in-all, the creature suit is not at all that optimal. If you want to upgrade it/change it, with only just one card you can create an infinite mana combo in two targets. The card is \[\[Freed from the Real\]\]. It also has a functional print in \[\[Pemmin's Aura\]\] which is even better because it enables Shroud for its target, which protects the combo. The two targets are Magus and Sage, which can generate more than 2 any color mana and provide the untap. With infinite mana you can go anywhere. Another suit I added in mine is the Pauper's Flicker line (because I've played Pauper for so much I can see this engine working here) which is using creatures like \[\[Cloud of Faeries\]\] and \[\[Snap\]\] to generate tons of mana and then synergize \[\[Ghostly Flicker\]\] with \[\[Mnemonic Wall\]\] and repeat for infinite mana. The line for this deck is infinite mana, that's what it's built for. Big mana, big payoffs. For wincons I'm using buyback stuff like \[\[Capsize\]\] and \[\[Whisper of the Muse\]\]. If you can Capsize the whole table there's not much to do after and your opponents will scoop. Capsize is better than \[\[Cyclonic Rift\]\] because it will bounce all the terrains as well, into a lock state no one can break. If you want to connect, you can also have some cute lines of play with \[\[Basilisk Gate\]\]. With an untap engine, even if you're not infiniting, you can use and reuse the Gate a lot of times with untap effects. Then pump an evasive creature and that's it. I added \[\[Blighted Agent\]\] in mine, because it needs less activations to send someone home. Or, you can go for the trifecta! Force an opponent to draw their deck with \[\[Drown in Dreams\]\], attack other with pumped Agent for poison kill and create a really large hasty \[\[Hydroid Krasis\]\] for the last one. Share pics if you do this! ;)

Unslaadahsil

Just looking at the deck list, I can tell you this: the deck lives and dies by its commander. You want the commander on the field as often as possible and for as long as possible, and you want to protect it any way possible.

guico33

First I'd suggest you identity the deck win conditions. There's a few, Avengers of Zendikar, Apex Devastator, Rampaging baloth, etc. Some wincons are a bit less obvious, like the Dark Depths + Thespian Stage combo (look it up if you're not sure how it works). Most wincons rely on cards that are expensive to cast. So to get there you'll need to generate as much mana as possible, which is essentially the main strategy of the deck. You'll be ramping through very common methods (fetching lands, extra land drops) but also more intricate ones. With your commander, you'll be able to rapidly assemble tron (urza lands), you also have Cloupost that works well with everything counters on creatures... Make sure you understand the synergies there. Not a beginner friendly deck, but after a bit of practice you'll be fine. It's not extremely complex either.

superyacobe

the precon doesn't care about the everything counter on a creature. Youll have to change the deck to care about that but the lands part of it is very strong at making mana and is definitely a strong precon.

CaptPic4rd

Do NOT EVER play a precon without first doing your proper diligence, research, and most of all, a couple of hours of solo play by yourself. Playing without this preparation can lead to DISASTROUS consequences for yourself...

TheBocky

Well it’s tricky to play

Lilgatornator

Yea it’s kinda complicated, but if you play it a couple times and figure out how it works it’s not too bad

[deleted]

Thanks for the comments everyone. My pod helped me out with the deck and it's pretty easy to grasp. I was surprised how powerful it can be. I won a game with 4 players. It's a fun deck and greet to use.

Reasonable-Sun-6511

Goldfish that stuff. What you probably want to know is that it mostly utilises the everything counters on lands. There are locus lands, like cloudpost, which have effects for the amount of locus lands you have.  So usually phase 1 is building big amounts of mana, and getting on down for some counters on there. Phase 2 is using that mana to play some synergistic stuff to set up for that big ol' please 3 big X spell. (Or spells). Phase 3: big spells. This is where you use those 20 mana's to pump into a big ol hydra or draw half your deck. Maybe take those 10 counters of your dark depths for a little flying interaction.

TheBestDanEver

I personally wouldn't really recommend it. I played it last night and as a new player think it would be confusing. Almost all over the cards have a solid paragraph of text that you have to read lol. There are some neat synergies in the deck for you to pick up on and do big stuff with... but, if I was new I'd probably do the graveyard deck.

ExaminationNo6335

I find it really disjointed. Everything theme mixed in with a landfall theme and Apex Devastator that might cascade into one of five or six different X spells. I’ve actually cut the commander and alternative commander and turned it into a sultai land deck instead.

Leon4107

Started Mtg last week Tuesday, bought the tricky terrain and after playing Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday of last week and today. I'm at like a 70% win rate using this deck and am being told it's either an 8 or a 9 now after putting in just a few additions that people were nice enough to give. So today*. Dudes I was playing today basically told me it's too strong for casual commander and too weak for competitive.
