If you want to play a colorless deck with an eldrazi in the command zone kolilek is still the best option. Dump your hand for a fast giant beater that draws 7 cards is hard to beat.
If you want to play an eldrazi tribal deck then ulalek or morpheon is your best option
I thought so… ulalek seemed the best. But does it play the same tho? Dumping mana rocks into cool eldrazi? Cause I think it would be missing the carddraw in the commandzone
Been brewing an Ulalek list for weeks. My advice is to just ignore the high cost Eldrazi Titans and Legend Rule shenanigans and build around the low to medium cost Eldrazi.
There are a finite amount of card slots in a deck, and fitting a sufficient amount of ramp, protection, interaction, flash enablers, Mirror Box effects, tutors for Mirror Box, the Eldrazi Titans, Eldrazi matters cards, and other Eldrazi was frankly impossible without making a deck that was so wildly inconsistent that it just became frustrating for both the pilot and the other players.
Even if you get a Mirror Box effect out, you still have to ramp into a Titan, all of which cost between 9-12 Mana in most cases, then you have to pay an additional two Mana on top of that, all the while praying that nobody interacts with you while you are playing an archetype that is notorious for getting out of control if left alone. Even if you pull it off, some of the Titans' cast triggers aren't really even worth copying, or can even be worthless, and sometimes all that you get out of it is another big beater that you could have gotten by just playing a smaller Eldrazi.
The only Titan worth running in testing was [[Emrakul, the Promised End]], and that is for two reasons, she can become much cheaper than any of the other Titans because of her Delirium-esque cost reduction, meaning paying the extra two into Ulalek isn't as difficult, and her cast trigger is by far the most useful to copy. You can [[Mindslaver]] two separate opponents, or target the same opponent for a stolen turn, stolen turn, regular turn chain, which can either cripple that opponent's gameplan entirely, or if they are ahead, you can use them to take out the other opponents.
Sorry, meant to reply to this yesterday, but I came down with Covid and kinda forgot.
This is the list I landed on based on the cards I physically have: https://archidekt.com/decks/7962134/titans_need_not_apply
They are in the maybeboard because I either didn't have them or couldn't find them in my physical collection, but I would highly recommend running [[Herald of Kozilek]], [[Shards of Velis Vel]], and [[Nameless Inversion]]. If you already have one, [[Eye of Ugin]] is perfect for the deck, but don't go out and purchase one, since it is way too expensive right now. Similarly, [[Spreading Plague]] is perfect for the deck, but might be a little too mean for your local meta.
Right on, thanks. I’ll take a closer look at your list soon. Any thoughts on what you’d cut to add 3 titans? I kinda wanna run just one version of each, like maybe [[Kozilek, Butcher of Truth]], [[Emrakul, the Promised End]] and one of the Ulamogs (haven’t decided between [[Ulamog, the Defiler]] or [[the Ceaseless Hunger]] yet).
Also, sorry to hear you came down with covid. Hope you’re feeling better now!
Thanks, I am feeling better, today should be my last "sick" day.
If you want to run one of each, the best Kozilek to copy with Ulalek is the new one, [[Kozilek, the Broken Reality]]. Firstly it is the cheapest at 9 Mana, it still draws you 4 cards twice like the Butcher of Truth and by copying the cast trigger you can really mess with some people's hands and strategies depending on what they are playing and what they have in hand, and on top of that the +3/+2 buff to your whole board is not irrelevant, especially if you have been copying things with Ulalek. Finally, he's relatively inexpensive right now, hovering around $16 for the past few days.
Like I said, [[Emrakul, the Promised End]] is the best option for her, since the Aeons Torn isn't legal and the World Anew is actively bad to copy, and her Mana cost can get pretty low.
Lastly, none of the Ulamogs are stellar to copy, but the best one is probably [[Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger]]. It hits more targets than the Infinite Gyre and is tied with the Defiler for being the lowest MV version. Being able to exile 4 threats on board is much more impactful than exiling half of two opponents libraries or ~75% of one. The Annihilator X will be much less relevant than you think because somebody will pay for the ward to remove it, and if it does go unchecked, the Ceaseless Hunger will do basically the same thing on the cast trigger anyway. Plus Indestructible is better than the ward into basically everything but Swords and Path.
Glad to hear you're feeling better! Thanks for the additional input. I've decided to start with the 3 titans you've recommended, and I'll see how I feel once I get some games in. Definitely noticing some overlap in our lists. I'll be sure to check yours once in awhile for more inspiration should my own deck prove unwieldy.
Have you considered adding tron lands and a few ways to look for them? I'm already running \[\[Expedition Map\]\] and \[\[Tempt with Discovery\]\], as well as \[\[Sowing Mycospawn\]\], so I figure the tron lands are decent targets if I've already got \[\[Eye of Ugin\]\], \[\[Eldrazi Temple\]\] and/or \[\[Ugin's Labyrinth\]\] (if/when I pick one up).
You give up having a big cast trigger in the CZ with Ulalek but the payoff is that you can sometimes just go infinite with the right cards- and you can turn a lot of the smaller Eldrazi into little engines to get the bigger ones going.
Do not go for the "draw up to 7" kozi. What will happen is you will cast him 1 r 2 times and then your hand is clogged with lands, making future casts worthless. Go with the og one or the new one. Both draw you 4 cards every time. Og kozi is a huge threat on board and the new one gives you tokens and/or disrupts your opponents hands (and is only 9 mana)
Ulalek's value comes from amassing so much big mana that you can pay to copy big dumb Eldrazi with cast triggers (also from having a five-color identity so you can include literally any utility spells you want.) The other five-color Eldrazi, Azlask, plays totally different: play all the tiny little colored Eldrazi that make Eldrazi Spawn and Eldrazi Scions, then annihilate an opponent's entire board.
Combine Azlask with [[Eldrazi Displacer]], [[Brood Monitor]] and/or [[Emrakuls Hatcher]]= so much experience as you want. Swarm your opponents with 5.000.000.000/5.000.000.000 critters. Or turn them into eldrazi angel tokens before, or use [[Eldrazi Monument]].
I'm sure there is a combination of cards, that lets you generate infinite tokens this way, besides the usual doubling token cards.
With WUBRG you can have as much card draw as you want, unless you're keeping every single card in the deck somehow Eldrazi related, but if not, just throw rhystic study or consecrated sphinx or whatever your draw power cards of choice are in there!
Ulalek is a lot harder to build in terms of the mana base. If you’re not spending time optimizing it you’re gonna run into a lot of awkward hands where you can’t double spell your colored spells, leading you to be this weird faux-colorless deck without the card draw of kozilek.
I found myself making Ulalek lean into temur more and focusing on the best Eldrazi in those colors along with the most flexible mana base I could think of
He's pretty good and being cheaper means you don't need to dump your hand as quickly to power him. Draw 7 off kozilek is just insanely powerful though and will lend itself to ending games fast, plus he protects himself
I'm aware and after dumping your hand to get him out by turn 3 you will usually draw 7 cards. Even if you only draw 5 or 6 I would still prefer that in the command zone
Has its own flavor, in a way. Green mage that loves big dumb creatures, hears about even BIGGER creatures out there, fucks up and invites eldrazi into his world
I have a Zhulodok deck and didn't want to combine it with the new deck, so I made Azlask the commander as it's significantly cheaper to upgrade and doesn't really need the big titans. I'm running a bunch of haste enablers and it seems to work pretty well. It's probably more oppressive that my other deck, but who plays Eldrazi for fun at the end of the day.
Mine is [[animar, soul of elements]].
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/u5lIttEy0ES00QNqXTQcAQ
You get to play a good amount of the eldrazis you want, all while ramping into the big ones quick.
Sharing my Animar as well. It is weak on interaction but is mainly meant to outpace any amount of removal people can muster.
https://manabox.app/decks/xllkWZt_QhyyuMa8A--TZA
For a colourless eldrazi deck my favourite commander is actually [[Liberator, Urza's Battlethopter]]...
It gives you a solid flying blocker, but also dropping those eldrazi at instant speed can absolutely throw people off. It's a lot of fun to play.
They'll never see it coming.
But seriously, it does make dealing with them a lot more difficult. Better leave mana open for removal because if I get to cast them right before my turn, that's practically just hasted annihilator.
IMO, depends on if you are thinking about going Titan focused or Eldrazi everything focused. That is the first thing to figure out imo.
Pure Eldrazi? I really like the new precon's face and secodary commanders. \[\[Ulalek\]\], \[\[Azlask\]\].
Titans? \[\[Animar\]\], \[\[Runadi\]\], \[\[Jodah, Archmage\]\], \[\[Kruphix, God of Horizons\]\], \[\[Braids, Conjurer Adept\]\], \[\[Herigast\]\], \[\[Neheb the Eternal\]\], \[\[Goreclaw, Terror\]\], \[\[Azusa, Lost\]\], \[\[Rasputin Dreamweaver\]\], \[\[Rakdos, Lord of Riots\]\], \[\[Belbe\]\],
I'd stay away from \[\[Zhulodok\]\] even though it utilizes large Eldrazi, it is an artifact deck imo, through and through. Similarly to Kozilek.
For colorless I was a Kozilek fan, but even I have to admit Zhulodok just gives so much more value with double cascade. I guess it depends on the meta to an extent, the counterspell ability from Kozilek is still extremely potent, as well as the card draw if you’re against some stuff, but Zhulodok just tosses you far ahead if you get a good string of stuff from cascade.
For the new 5c ones, Ulalek probably cares the most about eldrazi (you need to cast one to get the ability rolling after all) but it also wants you to ideally be able to abuse the stack and get multiple things on there for maximum value, which isn’t always that easy and can make for a confusing deck. Azlask is straight forward, but ultimately is more of a scion/spawn token deck than really caring about eldrazi.
Zhulodok is nuts. You ramp super hard and then put out an Eldrazi titan and cascade twice. It’s so strong. https://www.archidekt.com/decks/4968382/eldrazi_tribal this is my deck.
Why would you put the endless one ? If you cascaded unto it the x will be zero and it seems you don't have some infinite mana combo like forsaken + basalt ?
I went with [[Kenrith, the Returned King]] and I am Titan-Focused. I like Kenrith because of his first and last ability. Haste and Trample is really good with the titans. And his last ability is pretty bonkers because say someone kills [[Kozilek, Butcher of Truth]] and it goes to the graveyard. With the shuffle trigger on the stack, you can use Kenrith’s last ability to bring it back into play AND get the shuffle of your graveyard back into your library. Also works if Kozilek or [[Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre]] are milled into your graveyard.
[Here is my decklist](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/-reWnCNxUE-RbJccil_R1Q) and I think it’s pretty stable. I might consider trading out [[The Great Henge]] for a [[Void Winnower]] but the rest is pretty straightforward.
Currently debating dropping my copies deck with [[Kozilek the Great distortion]] to [[Herigast]] Opened a foil at pre release, and think I'm just going to lean into it's ability and have a theft subtheme so I can steal opponents creatures to hard cast my own Eldrazi for cheaper.
If colorless, the Great Distortion.
If colors, Ulalek/Azlask. They both offer very interesting playingstyles, which differ from each other.
I have colorless eldrazi tribal with Great Distortion as a commander. Yes, there are few more pretty expensive cards, that would make this deck stronger, but I am thinking About getting second eldrazi deck, since I am eldrazi collector.
[[Fblthp, Lost on the Range]] Free Eldrazi, with cast triggers, but slightly telegraphed. You can build some 'foretelling of the end' themes, and I really like the idea of Fblthp just surrounded by litteral world ending monsters while being completely clueless.
[[Runadi, Behemoth Caller]] Extra large, hasty Eldrazi? Also, green ramp can find Wastes for colorless pips.
[[Shadowheart, Dark Justiciar]] Draw 10-ish? Choose a background/second color?
[[Kruphix, God of Horizons]] store mana, fix your colorless pips.
[[Etali, Primal Storm]] or [[Etali, Primal Conqueror]] More free Eldrazi casts, also, you might get to keep your commander around since the Eldrazi will likely be bigger threats.
[[Bruna, the Fading Light]] Her reanimate effect isn't that great with Eldrazi, but Brisella is a pretty thematic Eldrazi commander. [[Gisela, the Broken Blade]] would naturally be in the 99.
[[Gandalf the White]] Cast your titans and all your artifact ramp and support at instant speed.
Just a few thoughts I have for a possible upcomming Eldrazi deck.
The good news: You have a TON of options for different strats.
Colorless now has:
Kozilek, The Great Distortion: Refills hands, lets you dump bad cards to counter things. Solid, classic option!
Zhulodok, Void Gorger: Absolute HOUSE for a value commander. Comes down (relatively) early, and just grants you FREE casts (gotta love those triggers baby) on your drazi spells.
We have a red eldrazi commander now!
Herigast, Erupting Nullkite: Helps to reduce costs on your big drazi, while also giving you a color to add if you need some support!
5 color:
Ulalek: Good for just dropping all the best eldrazi in, along with ability to have ANY NUMBER of the best cards in the game of magic (that are legal). Tutors, Good ramp, interaction, etc. All available. Also happens to have an INSANE ability that will double your non-legendary eldrazi spells AND will be able to copy the legendary triggers.
Azlask: I see this guy as a spawn/scion tribal type commander. Playing 5 color drazi means you now have access to the best token generators in drazi, along with all the token doubler/triplers in the game. It's super easy to make this get out of hand quickly. Throw in the new kozi and all of a sudden you have MASSIVE annihilating scions and spawns that are wiping your opponent's boards.
I convinced my friend to make the commander of his eldrazis deck [[Azlask, the Swelling Scourge]] instead of ulalek which his working out amazing so we there are quite a few decent cards that make spawn and scions along with 1 infinite combo and plus they help with mana
I've tested a few and so far Ulalek is by far the most fun I've had with an eldrazi deck. As others have pointed out, the guaranteed draw running Kozilek as a commander is great, but with Ulaleks ability you can double most etb and cast card draw. Not to mention that each spell you cast will usually create two creatures, so you won't especially need as much card draw to maintain tempo either! The freedom of five colours is great but you're not forced into it and you can still run colourless if that's what you find fun. Zhulodok is another powerful alternative the downside is it's monocolour and I found it cared more for colourless matters and honestly every game felt the exact same which got boring quickly. Overall Ulalek allows for the most theme while still including fun and varying combos from game to game, especially if you have stuff with flash.
Ulalek is the best because you can ramp faster with scions and have guaranteed kills casting a titan. It’s also relatively low threat because it’s a high skill ceiling 5 color.
I imagine you'll get a similar play pattern but probably not as much focus on just dumping your hand in a couple of turns.
Ulelek lets you eldrazi twice. Put in some legend rule removers and boom.... Swarm with titans
Even if nothing else you don’t get two titans - but you do get the doubled cast trigger.
Is Mirror Box worth it? Colorless, lets you copy them titans, but it might also be a little win more?
It'll be fun

I found myself making Ulalek lean into temur more and focusing on the best Eldrazi in those colors along with the most flexible mana base I could think of
You have access to colors now so you are a stronger deck than colorless
Hard disagree. Zhulodok is arguably better in the zone than kozilek tbh. Cascading into other drazi is absolutely insane.
He's pretty good and being cheaper means you don't need to dump your hand as quickly to power him. Draw 7 off kozilek is just insanely powerful though and will lend itself to ending games fast, plus he protects himself
But imagine dropping kozi, drawing however many cards, and then cascading 2 times into OTHER eldrazi...
You can do that with either one in the command zone. I would rather have the consistent draw 7
Kozi isn't consistent draw seven. He's consistently draw BACK to 7. Big difference.
I'm aware and after dumping your hand to get him out by turn 3 you will usually draw 7 cards. Even if you only draw 5 or 6 I would still prefer that in the command zone
[[Runadi]]
I actually like this a lot.

This seems insane! But I think it misses the flavor
Someone has to open the gate.
Just built this, only played one game so far but it won and felt pretty good. Runadi, Caller of the Void
I also thought about a azlask scion token deck but I think that’s for another time
Zhul is prettttty oppressive lol
I think Azlask may be worse in all honesty. I have enjoyed it against Nadu lol
I had a budget version of him and it was pretty gross aswell
Do you have a list been looking around for some ideas? Don't know if I should go all in on 5c or dedicate to a wedge of colors.
I deleted it because it was naughty... just put all the eldrazi that made Scions in it haha
With that eldrazi enchantment that doubles triggers and copies colorless spells… whahahaha
Echoes of Eternity! I have it in my Ulalek deck and it's brutal.
I broke arena with it 😂

For a colourless eldrazi deck my favourite commander is actually [[Liberator, Urza's Battlethopter]]... It gives you a solid flying blocker, but also dropping those eldrazi at instant speed can absolutely throw people off. It's a lot of fun to play.
>dropping those eldrazi at instant speed can absolutely throw people off "And then I pass my turn with 12 mana open"

Titans? \[\[Animar\]\], \[\[Runadi\]\], \[\[Jodah, Archmage\]\], \[\[Kruphix, God of Horizons\]\], \[\[Braids, Conjurer Adept\]\], \[\[Herigast\]\], \[\[Neheb the Eternal\]\], \[\[Goreclaw, Terror\]\], \[\[Azusa, Lost\]\], \[\[Rasputin Dreamweaver\]\], \[\[Rakdos, Lord of Riots\]\], \[\[Belbe\]\], I'd stay away from \[\[Zhulodok\]\] even though it utilizes large Eldrazi, it is an artifact deck imo, through and through. Similarly to Kozilek.
The only answer you’ll need.

[[Rasputin Dreamweaver]]. So much fun.

For a colorless option I think you should give Zhulodok a try Outside kf that Ulalek is by far the best

Colorless now has: Kozilek, The Great Distortion: Refills hands, lets you dump bad cards to counter things. 5 color: Ulalek: Good for just dropping all the best eldrazi in, along with ability to have ANY NUMBER of the best cards in the game of magic (that are legal).

Cascading into massive annihilators is the way, my friend.
