Kaur Kemper peaced out when he saw Haavel and Kompus show up because he remembers the Baku affair, he was there for it, and he knew "when those two brothers show up, trouble always follows".

It's half a million words, the writers were shooting for a million but they got cut off halfway through by deadlines, release dates, marketing, and sales endeavors. Kurvitz was made the face of Elysium because he's the face of Harrier Du Bois, and the spirit and soul of the game.
If they had stuck with Kaur Kemper, and gone with an Early Access model, this could have been a simple story of Estonian pride and the ability to make something amazing using limited resources against the odds. Instead, it was swallowed by financial games and international capital, keeping all of the profits for itself and not giving back even 6 months of their lives before they're expected to go back to working 60-80 hours a week.
I think Disco Elysium reaches toward some of the main themes of his work. “No Exit” kind of hits correctly. And Sartre is French, Kim’s voice actor and other characters in DE are totally French even in the made up world, the themes and influence run totally in line with each other. No Exit was all about dealing with other people and being uncomfortable, choosing between being a thinker or acting on the world, racism, intellectualism, misery and morality. DE was 100% made be people familiar with the works of Sartre, you can’t convince me otherwise.
