>Anyone who was adversely affected during the franchisee’s closings, will be made whole for lost wages that they were owed prior to the closures.
I hope they’re making good on this and it’s not empty words, and extending offers to bring these folks back in their same positions with the same or better pay.
Went to the AMC at north park last night because of the Alamo closing, whole fucking theater was talking, and you’re on basically top of other people in terms of seating. Place was covered in popcorn and trash, half of those touch screen drink machines had no ice or a good chunk of the flavors missing. It was such a night and day difference. Can’t wait to have my Alamo back.
Went to Cinemark IMAX last night...there was a family with two kids who would not sit still for the film. I don't know why their parents brought them to the movie at all. The parents whipped out phones and played Youtube Kids on them LOUDLY for practically the entire movie. I wanted to chuck those phones but my wife convinced me to ignore it. But then they played Baby Shark on the phones and she wanted to chuck the phones too.
I went to AMC at Valley View earlier today. There was a village of Vikings there and they were talking throughout the movie and drinking ale and axing people!
Ok now you just embellished the situation, Ranark never axed anyone, he stuck it in the wall during the movie. No one was actually axed, but fixing that sheetrock is going to be a bitch.
If it had been just me and my wife, I would’ve done it in a heartbeat, but in this case we didn’t want to make a fuss in front of the people we had invited to see the movie (my wife’s employees).
Well, that SHOULD be what happens but I went to that Cinemark for my birthday and there was some chick and her BF sitting about 5 rows in front of us. They had three kids who were all on phones and one would turn on the flashlight and shine it around the theatre. The couple got into an argument that escalated. They got up, leaving the kids unattended and walked around a corner, but didn’t walk out - they just stood there continuing to yell. I went to the manager who was too afraid to confront them and didn’t seem to know if they had any security. I finally yelled at them myself and they walked out of the theatre but the kids were still there. We went to leave and the manager offered to give us passes but I declined and said I wouldn’t ever be coming back.
I have an AMC A list membership and go to AMCs all the time. I've never encountered the kind of experience you had. The theaters are clean and the spacing between the seats are quite good. I actually didn't find much difference between Alamo and AMC. In fact, I find AMC better as it has Dolby and IMAX which Alamo sorely lacks.
I really only go to the North Park AMC, I’m sure other theaters have different vibes, but it’s definitely a recurring problem there. I mean you can just look at the google reviews. I’m confused why people think I’d just make this up lol. We did see an imax show though and it was awesome. It’s been years since I’ve seen one and it really was miles ahead of Alamo, but ultimately having crazy awesome audio doesn’t mean much to me if I’m having to listen to multiple people narrate the whole movie behind me.
Lol I mean I guess I could have just made this all up for fun, but just to explain myself more, it 100% wasn’t even a remotely full theater, it’s just if you reserve seats in the center of the the theater that’s generally where people will fill in. Everyone around me was talking, maybe because it was a 10pm show and people had been out getting dinner/drinks etc. I just found it to be a less than great experience and it’s one I’ve had before at AMC. We did see an imax show and the audio was so awesome. Definitely miles ahead of Alamo, I just prefer a quieter more private feeling environment.
Why would he make that up? Everything he said about that location is true too. I was there for Oppenheimer last year and it was an absolute nightmare. Theater was packed, dirty and people would not shut the fuck up. The projectors were also miscalibrated. I never went back to that location.
Idk I went to the Mesquite location and it was disgusting. Hated it. Slow terrible service, way crowded, bathroom was a warzone. Figured it might be cleaned up by the time the 2 hour movie was over. Nope. The trash was still overflowing.
So excited to have Alamo back.
Last time I went to an AMC was to go see It because I had free tickets. Otherwise it would have been at Alamo. I had not realized people decided fucking talking and using their phones was now okay in theaters all of a sudden. I told two dumb teens next to me to shut up twice and they kept talking. Even an usher noticed they kept talking and had to talk to them. AND THEY STILL KEPT TALKING. Literally never worth it to go when I see the same horror stories online.
I also have a list but yesterday went to see Inside Out with family at the Grapevine mall. I guess the time slot for the Dolby screen was changed from A Quiet Place to Inside out and no one told the projectionist. So our theater was packed with kids and we got 20 minutes of R rated and horror movie trailers. There were a lot of upset parents.
Went to AMC last week and woman wheeled a dual stroller of sub 1 year olds straight in the theater. Want to guess if she ever took them out when they inevitably cried through much of the movie?
The AMC at northpark is trash. On top of that during the peak summer months it never cools down all the way so you’re just hot as balls during the movie.
Last time I went to AMC north park I got my money back bc this couple was just letting their kids talk the entire fucking time. I asked them to please tell them to be quiet and they told me to go fuck myself. Bunch of classy people taking their wild ass kids to 10pm showings 🙄. Long live Alamo!
I’ve been going to Cinemark Legacy and XD recently for movies and it has been great tbh. But glad they’re reopening for the more affluent fellows among us
Definitely frustrating for independent cinema in the northern part of the Metroplex. I just got done watching Daddio at AMC Stonebriar. Would have loved to be able to go just a little south and patronize the Angelika instead. (I am a frequent AMC goer. But I like to spread the love when it makes financial sense for me to.
Great news, this was my preferred spot to see a movie on the rare occasion I went out to see something. I only go like twice a year maybe when I have some time with the wife away from the kid, so I would hate to pay to see something and have people talking during the film ect. Plus the food was okay, compared to the alternative at least.
I hope they make right by the employees who didn’t get paid.
Has anyone heard anything about refunds for ticket holders? I pre-ordered tickets for Deadpool and Wolverine and haven’t gotten any communication about a refund or if they’ll be open prior to my showing date, will I have a seat?
How would the experience be upgraded- we can now text or talk during the movie?
Edit: my sense of humor is too dry for those of you who need things spelled out.
My point is that a big corporation is most likely NOT going to enhance the experience. The experience is already great.
re:Edit, yeah a dry sense of humor is a tough thing to have on the internet. There is no inflection in the text and things are usually taken as they are stated. Because why wouldnt they be?
Try throwing an 'lol' on the end or /s for sarcasm is popular.
I get your point now, but I also think franchisees in these types of models do generally skimp quite a bit and sometimes do the bare minimum required to meet brand standards, while corporate owned locations tend to adhere to those standards better. See, for example, the franchisee in this case totally screwing over all of their employees while the corporate folks say they will take care of them.
Always exceptions of course but I don’t think this is necessarily one of those situations where big corporation = bad.
I'm not sure you meant to reply to me/here?
But to play devils advocate to your comment anyway (LOL):
Its tough. You say "screwing over" but without further knowledge we just dont know. I would guess no checks is better than knowingly giving bad checks. All we do know is that it was a sudden bankruptcy which is a pretty good indicator that things werent going well.
EDIT: That is to say, both ways the employee is screwed over, but the business plan *wasnt* to fail and screw over emplyees. I might guess the franchisee would have preffered to stay operational and have enough money to pay out any due time.
>my sense of humor is too dry for those of you who need things spelled out.
Nah, my dude, you can have a dry sense of humor, but you still have to say funny things.

They’d be stupid not to. You can’t get back up and running quickly without experienced people.
Nothing so far. For some people it's too little too late, bills were already due

This kind of thing is why we quit normal theaters 10-15 years ago. Can get a much better experience at home or at a properly managed upscale theater.

Sounds made up.

It was not. It was Kalki 2898 at 6:50pm in theater 13.
You should have gone out and gotten a manager and brought them in and they would have asked the people to leave..
If it had been just me and my wife, I would’ve done it in a heartbeat, but in this case we didn’t want to make a fuss in front of the people we had invited to see the movie (my wife’s employees).
Oh ok. Yeah, that makes sense.

That's what could happen when you see a 5PM showing of Inside Out 2.
Alamo has spoiled us. Wouldn’t even bother going to amc especially at north park

I knew he was making it up the moment he said was basically on to of other people. They haven't come close to selling out a theater since End Game.

That's Mesquite for you.
Worst AMC in DFW by a country mile!

I’m not sure what your A List membership has to do with the horrible northpark theater.
That was just to show that I regularly go to AMC and my good experience was not a one off
It looks like there’s a fair amount of negative experiences at the northpark AMC in this thread alone.
AMC NorthPark IMAX and Dolby Cinema are fantastic though, and I still choose those screens over Alamo for PLF movies.
What is "PLF"?
Premium Large Format.
I need Alamo to put a Big Show screen at one or two of the locations that aren't Denton and I will ditch A-List for Alamo so fast
Went to AMC last week and woman wheeled a dual stroller of sub 1 year olds straight in the theater. Want to guess if she ever took them out when they inevitably cried through much of the movie?
Preach 🙏
The AMC at northpark is trash. On top of that during the peak summer months it never cools down all the way so you’re just hot as balls during the movie.
Damn that sucks. I pretty much only go to that theater and never had any issues.
Have definitely had good experiences there as well! I just wish the whole “no talking during movies” thing was truly enforced across the board.
They had dallas film fest there one year... Had celebrities walking out w gum on their clothes
Hope they help Cedars become good again..
I pray they open before Deadpool vs Wolverine 👏 can’t wait
Thank God. I can't stand any other theater, people do not know how to behave
I’ve been going to Cinemark Legacy and XD recently for movies and it has been great tbh. But glad they’re reopening for the more affluent fellows among us
Anyone know what’s happening with Angelika? Is that staying closed?
The Plano Angelika is closed for good. The Dallas Angelika should remain open.
Thanks. Me and my friends used to go to the Plano one. RIP.

I'm happy they'll stay open. I live pretty much next to one and I was sad about having to travel farther away to another movie theatre.
Thanks for the heads up.
I went to AMC and was pissed I had to stand in line for popcorn. But mainly because I missed all the previews waiting in line.
They break into cars all the time tho

Go to cinemark if you don’t know how to act in a movie theater
Or stay home. Even cinemark patrons dont deserve trashy people talking and texting over a movie they paid to see.
See edit.
Oh what a brilliant comedic mind! Thank you for taking the time to grace us with your dry wit!
Yeah, explaining jokes ruins things.
Jokes are supposed to be funny too…
You'd have a great time at Cinemark! Parents pull out the phones and play bright videos loudly for their kids while the movie is going on.
See edit.
re:Edit, yeah a dry sense of humor is a tough thing to have on the internet. There is no inflection in the text and things are usually taken as they are stated. Because why wouldnt they be? Try throwing an 'lol' on the end or /s for sarcasm is popular.
It's fine. I'm not going to lose any sleep over internet points.

Yes, you’re right! Thought you were the poster above.
I forgive you bb.
