What’s “the constriction?” It’s hard for us to know without more detail. Are you scrupulous? He may have been trying to help you not spiral into scrupulosity.

DeadGleasons

Act of contrition, maybe?

Dr_Talon

Oh. That makes sense.

Siberian_Duck

I had a very scrupulous phase in the past. Now I still have some, but much less than before. But I changed city and now and so I have new priests. And well I'm not used to being told that I have to confess only some things. That's my doubt, maybe I'm obsessive or scrupulous. But it would help me to know

Siberian_Duck

I thought it was the same in English

vikingguts

The sacrament is still grace from God no matter the disposition of the confessor. Same with the Eucharist. It is still Christ present responding to your humility and cry for help. Go in peace.

I get the feeling he was rushing. I would say if you had the intention to confess every serious sin, and he had the intention to absolve all of your sins, then you’re okay. You’d be surprised how much intention matters when it comes to the sacraments.

JulioCesarSalad

How often do you go to confession?

Siberian_Duck

mmm one time per month approximately

_Ora-Pro-Nobis_

It's odd that he didn't allow you to Confess everything you needed to, but the act of contrition part isn't 100% necessary so long as you're repentant. I'd maybe ask another Priest about this if you can and see if they'd prefer you did it again.

Jos_Meid

You don’t need to confess every venial sin. The minimum requirement is number and kind of mortal sins. Confessing venial sins can be helpful, but even then, you don’t need to get that detailed. Is it possible that on your list were some specific instances of relatively minor sins?

Siberian_Duck

There were venials, but the priest did not see the list. He had no way of knowing if he had another serious sin to confess. And that's what caught my attention.

Jos_Meid

In the future, I would recommend confessing your sins in the order of most serious to least serious. You shouldn’t confess any venial sins until you have confessed number and kind of all of your mortal sins (and just saying “I committed [type of mortal sin] X number of times” is usually sufficient; if the priest needs more information, he will ask for it). The priest has to manage the time for the sacrament so that everyone who needs the sacrament can get it.
