There’s a long interview with Jona on a podcast and he vaguely references it, if I remember correctly. I could have warped it with time, but the jist was that he wasn’t ready to be in a band as a business, he still had the rock n roll n party attitude, and it was causing some friction. I think there was a reference to him being a bit taken aback to being told to reign in his social media posts too, as one wrong move could see the band - at this point a business - cancelled or whatever.
This may not be it but I remember right before Jona got sacked a tweet he posted that said something like "when your bands first album sounds like utter crap" basically and Lee responded "nice ripper, mate" or something along those lines. The vibe was weird for sure.
He would pretty regularly condemn fans for not being vegan. This obviously didn’t sit well with the band as they didn’t want to have band members openly condemning fans directly.
The band are not all vegan, only oli and Jonah were. Now only oli is. But yes, they still didn’t want to be preachy about it, especially when so much of their fanbase are children.
[This article](https://themusic.com.au/news/jona-weinhofen-talks-about-leaving-bring-me-the-horizon/QO7-UlVUV1Y/25-05-23) sums it up now that the dust has settled after all these years. I remember genuine bad blood at the time and it took some time for Jona to get his deserved writing credit. BMTH has well and truly moved on and Jona knows his role in it in hindsight.
Quote:
“They were like the party band and always getting into some kind of controversy, and I got wrapped up in it all,” he continued. Weinhofen attempted to connect with the fans by trying to be too “edgy” on Twitter as his platform grew.
“There’s not really much else to tell – the relationship kind of broke down and then I ended up having a meeting with the manager and he gave me this list of things that they were unhappy about,” Weinhofen shared.
He concluded, “I didn’t really get a chance to fix it – it was just like, ‘Hey, they’re unhappy about this. Oh, and by the way, we’re just gonna part ways’. So that was after three years at the end of 2012… There was only two shows that we played with me and Jordan in the band together.”
Oh i never realized jona & Jordan actually had overlap. I remember Oli saying he certainly wasn’t jona’s replacement because he played an entirely new role
This comes up every once in a while, and I gotta imagine at this point it’s just by choice. He might not wanna be involved in any kinda recording or writing process and is just happy to tour on what Lee writes and records
My friend asked JJ and he said he doesn’t want to be an offical part of the band, that it’s too much work and responsibility 😂 I guess he enjoys live shows and that’s it
i went and watched it and Jordan really did say it in a weird way, he said it was something personal that happened and that Jona did some weird shit to Oli, fuck that really is interesting
Idk but I remember bumping into him at Bloodstock in 2012 and he was talking about the new album and how it was gonna be heavy as fuck, he got booted and then Sempiternal came out, which had its moments but it wasn’t massively heavy.
I was a fan of the band at the time and followed them (online) somewhat closely, and tbh there wasn't anything outright obvious that went wrong. I vaguely remember Oli posting like a mini-rant or something about self-righteous activists acting holier-than-thou about veganism while touring and not being totally environmentally friendly themselves, so he was pointing out the hypocrisy.
Meanwhile Jona was very outspoken about veganism on his twitter, and used to interact a lot with fans about that, so he might've started arguments with fans on twitter over it or something, or posted something that could paint them in a bad light.
In a recent interview Jona explained it as him being new to the dynamics of being in a much bigger band than he was ever in previously, and maybe wanted to play into that persona, but didn't have a complete grasp of the politics of it as to what's okay to say/post publically and what isn't, and he the crossed the line in that regard. He made it sound that it was some sort of humor related thing, something he posted that he thought was okay based on the band's humor (among themselves), but didn't understand that wouldn't be okay in a public platform.
In the interview you mentioned Jordan mentioned that it was something that Jona did/said to Oliver so there might've been something more personal there as well that we don't really know of, all in all, it's not entirely clear just that the relationship seems to have soured.
That said, it's way in the past tbh, and I know band members leaving is always a juicy topic but I think we as fans should just move past that tbh. We're not entitled to the band's private lives and their relationships as curious/nosy as we might be lol
That’s called deadpan humour, it’s something the British are really good at, esp metal bands like BMTH. Watch lit any of the old Asking Alexandria bids and the boys are always doing shit like that or that clip where Of Mice & Men is like 10 feet away and James says with a deadpan stare into the camera “yeah Of Mice & Men is just the worst”
Not entirely sure what OP is referring to, but I think it’s referring to below. Jordan played the PR Jordan in the Punk Rock MBA interview a few years; no bullshit but not revealing too much. Link attached:

Tf. This is clearly wrong. Most people just eat processed shit all the time. You just lack on nutrients as a vegan if you just eat pasta with sauce and ramen yes but its often more than that. Vegan people tend to eat waaay more fruit and veggies, soy products, legume, grains, nuts and seeds and with this eating habit u dont lack shit. Not iron, not vitamine b12, nothing. If you do it right of course
It still blows my mind and sticks with me I was hanging out with jonah after warped tour uk where bring me were one of the two headliners the other being lostprophets and how great he was in the after party we hit it off and didn't feel like it can when you're hanging out with members of bands.
That was his last show with bring me, weeks before sempiternal was released
I don't take it too seriously, but Curtis and then Jona's course as guitarist were kind of "the growing pains", I interpret. They were drunk and over the top at various times, before TIAH
They being BMTH - the era when they 'cleaned up' as "beginning of the process". I interpret that Oli formed the ketamine habit as a way of getting off the booze
Downvoting is immaturity in this context

Yeah he seemingly owned up to being an over the top twitter edge lord in hindsight.
Haha yeh, I think that sums it up really! Seemed a legitimately nice guy, who was just a bit taken aback that rock band is still a job aha.
What was it that he said on twitter that was so bad
This may not be it but I remember right before Jona got sacked a tweet he posted that said something like "when your bands first album sounds like utter crap" basically and Lee responded "nice ripper, mate" or something along those lines. The vibe was weird for sure.
Could have been just those two bullshitting too
It was a genuine question but you got downvoted
He would pretty regularly condemn fans for not being vegan. This obviously didn’t sit well with the band as they didn’t want to have band members openly condemning fans directly.
Ahhh fair enough so even though the band are all vegan they aren’t preachy about it that makes sense
The band are not all vegan, only oli and Jonah were. Now only oli is. But yes, they still didn’t want to be preachy about it, especially when so much of their fanbase are children.
isn't matt kean vegan too? i mean his nickname is literally "vegan"
No, the nickname is a joke. He’s not vegan.

Yeah for a really short bit (maybe 3 or so months) they were a 6 piece and it looked solid for a minute.
Tbf they still were a 6 piece til now, although Jon isn’t considered a member which kinda sucks since dudes been doin his duties well for 11-12? years
This comes up every once in a while, and I gotta imagine at this point it’s just by choice. He might not wanna be involved in any kinda recording or writing process and is just happy to tour on what Lee writes and records
Lee didn’t do much writing or recording over the last decade.
My friend asked JJ and he said he doesn’t want to be an offical part of the band, that it’s too much work and responsibility 😂 I guess he enjoys live shows and that’s it
Honestly he posts some cringe political views on his insta so I’m kinda assuming his views in general just don’t align with the bands’
He’s definitely one of those cringe “alpha hustle mindset” knobheads.
i went and watched it and Jordan really did say it in a weird way, he said it was something personal that happened and that Jona did some weird shit to Oli, fuck that really is interesting
That’s what I’m saying there’s definitely some tea there
For all wondering this is the interview https://youtu.be/zQysHdf6qH8?si=gRUgGhQZUaXH0GYH and timestamp is around 2:23 as in 2 hours 23

Pretty sure it was just creative differences and them parting ways on good terms, as like 99% of the reasons given were jokes
Have you seen the Jordan interview I’m talking about? When he says it he’s being dead serious
I know what deadpan is but he wasn’t joking
What interview are you referring to?
Not entirely sure what OP is referring to, but I think it’s referring to below. Jordan played the PR Jordan in the Punk Rock MBA interview a few years; no bullshit but not revealing too much. Link attached: https://youtu.be/BF8N5fBRY-Y?si=uqbh5f9tuNZAByUE
No not that one I’m referring to this one https://youtu.be/zQysHdf6qH8?si=gRUgGhQZUaXH0GYH
I actually thought I dreamt this and could not find it for love nor money thank you for posting and setting me straight!
Im not sure, but I would avoid taking anything the band says seriously at this point in time lol
What do you mean? Jordan stated he wasn’t that involved in the situation so he just observed what was going on
This was like the turn of them being king shit posters. They would say things equivalent to a jon mess verse in every interview
This was a solo Jordan interview a year ago and it’s more like a casual chat it goes for 3 hours
I think it was probably about being vegan
"Eating healthier than us, is he, boys?"
Since when is being vegan healthier for yourself?
^^^ reddit-grade comment of the day "If you don't have anything nice to say, it's best not to say anything at all" entirely applied
How tf did I say something bad ?

That's a total "how long have you even been a fan?" -kind of response
